Carronade Capital Management Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer Dan Gropper expects the US to be in for a “rough ride.” “If I were today sitting on the board of a major corporation, I'm not sure I'd build my new factory or start a new division or open 14 new restaurants. You'd want to know what's going to happen with the economy. And so even the uncertainty without the second- and third-order effects that can and will occur from tariffs, even before that happens, I think you're already seeing people starting to pull back,” said Gropper, when he joined Bloomberg Intelligence's Phil Brendel at the Beard Group's Distressed Investment Media Night on May 6. He detailed his firm's investment approach, which is rooted in deep distressed investing experience and a collaborative DNA (6:35). Prior to that, BI's Noel Hebert and Brendel discussed the sharp widening of spreads in the energy sector and credit's gloomy outlook. The podcast concludes with BI's Negisa Balluku joining them for a roundtable discussion on Serta, Hertz, GOL, Incora, Ardagh, CommScope, WW International and Rite Aid (28:20).

The early carrier activity has focused on macrocells but is moving to small cells for network densification in populated areas and for new fixed wireless access applications.Mounting C-band radios on small cells, however, poses a host of challenges and understandably, not one size fits all.Kat Brooks, Sr. Director-Sales at CommScope talks with John Celentano, Inside Towers Business Editor about C-band small cell deployment challenges and some novel solutions. Support the show

How to Make Lasting Business Connections

Straight Outta Crumpton

In the world of business, being a people person has its perks. Forming connections with other people can help unlock opportunities and can make finding success more attainable. Greg Crumpton, Host, Straight Outta Crumpton and guest Mara Fowler, Global Accounts Manager for CommScope both know this from experience. “One thing that I learned early on was, you know, every person has an innate desire to connect,” Fowler said. She reflected on a conversation she had early on in her career when speaking with a c-suite exec. “I remember one of them actually saying that to me, like, I'd really appreciate you just talking to me like a person versus somebody who's ten levels up from you,” Fowler said. That lesson on forming sincere connections stuck with her throughout her career. “I would say that my success has been directly attributed to making sure that when I meet people, whether it's when I walk into a data center, whether it's the janitor or the security person or an IT person that's on site, I don't stop and treat them any differently than when I see the data center manager come in,” Fowler explained. That was a situational example of how forming connections aided her career.Fowler shared three ways she's been able to form such strong professional connections. “If you're connecting with customers in some way or are messaging to the customers, don't oversell right? And always be honest and transparent. And, you know, those three things I think have helped me tremendously,” Fowler said.
