Steve Cohen finally comes through for the Mets as they acquired both Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco in exchange for Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez and two prospects: Josh Wolf and Isaiah Greene. First and foremost, what does this do for Lindor? ... Carlos Carrasco now leaves the favorable AL Central division for the tougher NL East (4:41). What does this move mean for Carrasco's value?... With Lindor gone, Cleveland's lineup is barren. Should we devalue Jose Ramirez (7:13)? ... Should we be excited about either Andres Gimenez or Amed Rosario now that they're with Cleveland (11:00)?... Any sleepers for Cleveland's final rotation spot (13:46)? Well, this is a nice way to start 2021. We had a whole "Welcome to the New Year" episode recorded where we recapped 2020 and talked about what we were expecting this year. But then white privilege took over Washington D.C. So, this week we speak on the mob of #45 supporters who stormed the capitol building as the U.S. Senate confirmed Joe Biden's presidential election. 2:00 - Branden and Reese begin to try to unpack what just happened. Branden describes it as "racist with guns, storming the business place of racists with suits." 5:00 - Maurice speaks on how this event and the energy behind it has been brewing for at least 8 to 12 years. Branden doubles down Trump going down as one of, if not the worst president in U.S. history. 8:15 - Maurice wonders how much of this event was an "inside job" as the rioters seemed to be prepared to not only show up in protest, but break into the capitol building, confront law enforcement and rummage through office desks. 10:40 - Branden and Maurice speak on the power of words and how "coup" should not be thrown around so haphazardly. Maurice also challenges more white people to stop keeping secrets and callout the brazenly white people they know. 18:00 - Maurice and Branden question what these white "protestors" were actually protesting. They also wonder what happens after Trump officially leaves office and where him and his supporters will migrate to. 26:20 - Branden and Maurice talk about the passing of MF DOOM and share some of their favorite moments of his career. We also go to Italy, where Juventus finally halted Milan’s incredible run. Andy and David run the rule over both sides’ title credentials, and take a closer look at Pirlo’s nascent regime.David also takes us through the instability at Athletic Bilbao and the very unique challenges faced by their new manager, Marcelino. Finally, we also revisit his first rodeo: a magnificent game against Barcelona on Wednesday night.Got a question for us? In light of the events at the US Capitol, we wanted to reshare a conversation we had with historian Allan Lichtman in October. Professor Lichtman has taught at American University since 1973; famously, he created the The Keys to the White House model, which he created with a Russian seismologist (really!) in 1981. Lichtman's model uses 13 True/False criteria to predict whether the candidate of an incumbent party will win or lose the next election for the U.S. president, and he's been right in every election since, including Trump's 2016 win.We spoke about Lichtman's predictions for 2020 right before Election Day, as well as how to factor new unexpected variables (say, a pandemic) into your model, and how to get better at forecasting on an ongoing basis. As always, we welcome your feedback. Please make sure to subscribe, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and Google Play.
There was a coup attempt in Washington D.C. at the Capitol building yesterday. It happened live on television. It happened because of the disgusting and harmful rhetoric our president has used for the past four years. It was not a protest. It was not a rally. It was not a gathering. It was coup attempt by domestic terrorists. It was a sad day for America, and change is needed. This whole episode today will be us trying to process what happened yesterday and what the future looks like if change doesn’t happen. #waittosee -------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Kate, Luke and Vish look back on last night’s Manchester derby, where Pep’s City Rollers (one for the youngsters) cruised to a fourth straight League Cup final. But while Pep and John Stones got dizzy on that sweet, sweet Carabao, it was an all too familiar sinking feeling for Man United and Vish in his bedroom fort. We also pay homage to Mick McCarthy after his latest sacking at APOEL Nicosia - and even more so to poor Jack Byrne. But it’s all good, because Fizzer has been head-hunted for an ambiguous “role” at Inter Miami. Let’s have some sex-success! In the previous episode, I shared with you why you should set intentions around the area of your pleasure and sexuality, and what that may look like for the year ahead. Feedback Medicine Walk by Richard Wagamese (rec’d by Rebecca) Ann Patchett (rec’d by Wynnde) The Last Painting of Sara De Vos by Dominic Smith His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie (rec’d by Gina) Questions 1. I just started watching Tiny Pretty Things on Netflix, and I’m very intrigued by the culture of ballet, both its beauty and ugliness (e.g. the need for a specific body type, the cut throat environment, etc.) I’d love to read a novel that dives into this concept, specifically about what it is like to be an elite ballerina. I’m not interested in a dry, informational read, but one where I can learn about the world and lifestyle of ballet through fiction. Thanks! -Emily 2. Hi! Let me take a sappy moment to say finding this podcast was one of the highlights of a very sucky year. Can’t thank you enough for giving me something to look forward to every week (and a hefty book wish list!). I recently watched Mank and though I didn’t like it, it put me in the mood for a glossy and gossipy book about the Hollywood Studio System. I haven’t read anything in this realm with the exception of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so I’m pretty open to anything whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, but would prefer if it didn’t focus on white men. Thank you both so much! -Sofia 3. Hello! I’m looking for a book to gift to my friend for her birthday. Some fiction books I have recommended, and she has liked in the past are, The Goldfinch, The Signature of All Things, and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. She has also told me she liked Where the Crawdad Sings and she loves pretty much everything Wally Lamb has ever written and John Green. She’s told me before she likes long meandering books with no plot. I’ve also definitely noticed she likes what I can only describe as books about angsty protagonists. Other than John Green I don’t think she reads any YA, but I do think she feels a connection to characters who suffer from “teen angst”, be they teenagers or not. She also occasionally dips into horror, but I don’t think she’s ventured outside of Stephen King. As for nonfiction books, she likes what she calls “fucked up childhood memoirs,” like The Glass Castle, Educated, etc. She’s read most of the popular memoirs in this category as far as I can tell, so I’m a bit wary of picking out memoirs because I can’t be sure if she’s read them or not. I wanted to gift her H is for Hawk because it seems right up her ally, but I think she might have told me she listened to it on audiobook. I’m planning on giving her Parable of the Sower for Christmas, but I’m writing this in early December before I have given it to her, so I have no idea if it will be a success or not, but a lot of the plot contains themes she is interested in, so I have high hopes. I know this ask was probably overly long, I just wanted to be as thorough as I could be. Thank you both so much in advanced! -Anonymous 4. Hi Jenn and Amanda, I’m a public librarian, and I listen to Get Booked and the Book Riot podcast to help me strengthen my readers’ advisory skills. It never really occurred to me to ask you for a recommendation for myself until recently, so I hope it’s okay that I have two (somewhat lengthy) requests. Firstly, I am hoping to find a book that speaks to my experience as a woman in her twenties struggling to establish a rewarding career, to find a life partner, and to stay afloat financially. I must admit, I am a picky reader. I often find the writing style of romance/genre fiction to be too cheesy, but I also roll my eyes at lit fic that takes itself too seriously. If it feels like the writer is trying to show off with poetic language or overly complicated structure, I’m out. I like straight-forward writing and authentic dialogue. I am a Millennial, but books that feature hip, tech-savvy Millennials with personal brands turn me off. The books that have come closest to hitting the mark are Such a Fun Age and Writers & Lovers. In Such a Fun Age, I related to the issues of underemployment and the quest for health care, but I didn’t find the main character particularly likable. In Writers & Lovers, I related to the main character struggling with student loan payments and working a job in the service industry while nurturing creative goals, but the writing laid it on a little too thick. I am looking for a likable character who is actively trying to make a life for herself as an adult. Not self-sabotaging or reckless, just experiencing some hard knocks, and the shame, doubt, and/or loneliness that can accompany those feelings of failure. Oh, and no Dear Sugar, please. I know it’s a swiss-army rec for Book Rioters, but I just really don’t connect with Cheryl Strayed. Secondly, I am hoping you can recommend a career advice book that is useful for the average Jane. The career books that I have read thus far seem to be written by/aimed at women in the corporate world are already quite successful & prestigious, at least by my standards. As a small-town librarian, I do not find these high-powered women relatable because it seems like they live in an entirely different world. That being said, I still want to learn how to grow my career and create opportunities for myself. Thanks in advance! My apologies for a specific and lengthy requests. Take care, -M 5. I am looking for a book where the main character comes up with and completes some personal project. In these pandemic times, I’ve decided to embark on my own personal project of interviewing different members of my family about their lives and compiling it all. I need some motivation/inspiration, ideally in audiobook format. One such book that I loved is the “Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society”. Something that has a feeling of accomplishment and a feel-good plot. Thanks so much! -Allie 6. Started listening to your podcast a few months ago and love it. I’ve recently finished two series: The fallen blade by Kelly McCullough and The chaos queen quintet by Christopher Husberg What I like about these series is the world building and the characters. I didn’t quite like the religions described in the books, but they add a nice touch to enrich the worlds in which the series are set in. Do you have any recommendations as to what to read next? I’d like to stay in the Fantasy genre because I’ve been reading too much Scifi lately. Thanks in advance, -Matteo 7. I need some gay twilight essentially. I’m talkin’ embarrassing w/w gay vampires. Pretty please

The Investigation Where I live, the pandemic is still very much in full swing with cases continuing to rise. This may not be what we want to hear or think about after the year we’ve just had but I want you to know that all of this can’t take away your power. You still have the power to protect your body and your immune system so that you can best deal with whatever comes at you in the coming months. As we learn more about the virus and as the situation shifts, my immune recommendations have also shifted. There is a lot of information floating around and not all of it is good or relevant to people with certain immune conditions. In this episode of Health Mysteries Solved, I want to share my latest updates on immunity. I’m including the best information on how food, nutrients, contraptions and health-hacks can help you stay healthy this winter. Protecting Your Autoimmune Self When you have an autoimmune disease, the immune system is already overactive against your own organs. Many immune formulas (supplements) boost the immune system which, when your immune system is already overactive, is not good. This is why it’s so important that people with autoimmune issues don’t take general immunity advice. Otherwise, you might end up making your immune system even more overactive resulting in your immune system attacking your organs even more. We sure don’t want that! Immune Recommendations to Avoid (for those with Autoimmune Diseases) If you know that you have an autoimmune disease or may suspect one, please be very mindful about immune boosting herbs. Specifically, these ones that are often recommended by health practitioners: Echinacea Astragalus Reishi and other immune supporting mushrooms Green Tea and Elderberry Make sure you read the labels of all supplements being touted as immune boosting because these ingredients may be included. Immune-Boosting Dangers with COVID-19 We’ve learned that when covid goes to the later stages, it can produce something called a cytokine-storm. This is basically an inflammatory cascade that can then affect many other areas of the body. This happens because the immune system is in overdrive trying to fight the virus and not succeeding. Taking immune boosting herbs (like the ones listed above) can make that worse because the immune system is already in a state of disarray. Autoimmune Safe Immune Support Not to worry, there are other nutrients that are not only super-effective but also very safe when it comes to both autoimmunity and preventing immune dysregulation. In this episode, I got into greater detail with each of these but I wanted to provide you with a list of my go-to recommendations for my clients and myself. Here are my top recommendations for autoimmune safe immune-boosting supplements: 1. Vitamin C This is my first go-to, my power tool, and the one that I think many people overlook. My recommendation for general immune support for a typical 150 pound adult is 1000-2000 mg of vitamin C per day. I personally use the C+Bio Fizz from Designs for Health (makes a yummy, fizzy drink) but capsules like Stellar C are great. For some, vitamin C can cause loose bowels. If that happens for you, Liposomal Vitamin C is a wonderful solution to this problem as it absorbs through the mucous membranes in your mouth first and is easier to absorb - just remember to refrigerate. Please note that if you are already sick (with COVID or any other virus, respiratory illness, or cold), you will want to shift your Vitamin C protocol. I, along with many of my integrative colleagues, recommend increasing vitamin C significantly for the course of a week or so while not well. Do this in divided doses and more frequently. So, it would look something like taking 500 to 1000 mg of C (it can be powder, liposomal or capsules) every 30-60 min to bowel tolerance (until you get diarrhea which is when your body says it's saturated and had enough). You would then restart it later in the day or next day. Do this for a few days when you are sick. There is a ton of research about high dose vitamin C in helping fight infections. 2. Vitamin D It’s imperative that our vitamin D levels are optimal as we head into winter. The dosage of D is going to vary based on your actual vitamin D status (if you know it). I like to have people somewhere between the 50-80 range on a blood test (lab range is only 30-100). If you don't know your levels but you have not supplemented with vitamin D recently, and especially if you live in the northern hemisphere, 5000 IU of vitamin D would typically be recommended. Vitamin D is huge for balancing the immune system which is why it is so wonderful for illness prevention but also to keep the immune system in a place of homeostasis to help prevent upregulations on your own tissues if, or when an infection strikes. Vitamin D should ideally come with Vitamin K so that we prevent calcification of tissues and organs. I use a Liquid D for those who may have issues with fat soluble vitamins and the Vitamin D Supreme capsules for all others. 3. Zinc This is not a new recommendation. Zinc has been widely talked about online and in the media. However, while it is very beneficial, many people have been taking extra zinc since the start of the pandemic (about 9 month). The issue is that zinc is a mineral and like other minerals, it works synergistically with other minerals. In particular, taking a very high dose of Zinc over an extended period can deplete your copper. That is why I don’t recommend more than 30 mg of zinc generally for prevention (unless you are taking extra copper) and while its safe to double the zinc if you are feeling sick, you are doing this for a short period of time, a week or 2 so that it doesn’t cause an issue with copper. Note that copper deficiency can potentially lead to more bacterial infections and problems with the blood and even things like aneurysms. A hair test is a great way to measure levels of both zinc and copper. When you get the results, look at not just the individual zinc and copper levels but at the ratio of the 2. Ideally the zinc to copper ratio should be at around 8. If you are lower than 8 you can use more zinc however if you are above 8 you would take extra copper along with the zinc. Even a multivitamin with copper would help. 4. Oregano & Garlic I love them because they work well and they work quickly. Plus, I typically don’t see many side effects with them. They both have not only anti-viral properties but they are also anti-microbial in general (meaning they can work on bacteria, yeasts and other bugs). The thing to note here is that I don’t recommend these to be taken long term and for general immune support (unless of course you are working on a specific protocol with your practitioner). For immunity, I like using those as needed especially if you feel under the weather or are around those who are sick or may have been exposed. Avoid taking this ongoing because they can affect your microbiome. Plus, your body can get used to them and they will not have the same effect if you are sick. For oregano, I either use Oregano gel caps by Designs for Health (3 caps twice a day) or essential oil of oregano from either Young Living or doterra (3 drops of essential oil of oregano mixed in a little coconut or any other oil twice a day). For garlic, I have been using Allimax, it’s a potent and patented allicin extract which is very effective without the odor. I recommend 2-3 capsules a day for the duration of illness or for a few days if exposed or feeling off. 5. Liquid Silver (Silvercillin) Silver is a powerful antimicrobial and it can be used orally or topically. I don’t recommend long-term use for immunity (unless you’re on a specific protocol). I take 1-2 tbsp orally a few times a day for a few days while sick or if exposed. Silvercillin is also amazing when used topically. I have used it on pimples, rashes, burns, cuts, you name it. I even used it on a sty on my eye. Immune Boosting Practices In addition to supplements, there are a few health habits you can adopt to improve your immunity. Here are a few that I’m doing right now: 1. Clear Nasal Passages A big recommendation I have for immunity is keeping your nasal passages clean and clear. I am a big fan of nasal irrigation. I personally use the NeilMed which is similar to a neti pot but (in my opinion) easier to use. I use 1 tbsp of the Silvercillin mixed in the distilled water and salt solution. This boosts the antimicrobial activity. 2. Micronized Saline Mist There is also a new thing I tried this month to help keep our air passages clear called Fend. It’s a mister that uses a saline solution containing micronized saline. The micronized saline lines your airways, capturing and eliminating inhaled particles. I think its a really neat concept and if you were interested in trying it, they are offering all my listeners 25% off with code TY25INNA at checkout. 3. Mindset My biggest recommendation is to be aware of your mindset and stress levels. I speak about this very often on the show but it’s worth repeating. There is an inverse relationship between cortisol (our stress hormone) and your immune system. When stress is high and cortisol is up, our immunity goes down. Anything you can do to keep your cortisol down and stress low is going to be key for a healthy immune system. Try breathing, meditation, taking time for yourself, listening to music, dancing, laughing - anything you can do to lower your stress response. Another thing to remember is that we also have physical stressors such as blood sugar imbalance. If you are skipping meals or not eating in a balanced diet this can create a lot of extra stress in your body. Conclusion / Next Steps To help our immunity, let’s get our diets in check, take the right nutrients that are both effective and safe, manage our stress, and create a more positive mindset. Adopt the attitude that you CAN and will stay healthy this winter. Believe that your body is strong. You got this! Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Nova Fortier sent a beautifully satirical question: "Mark, I’ve been listening to your podcast on and off for a couple of years. I enjoy most of your podcasts, your updates on where life finds you. But, when you label something ‘female’ or ‘women’ on your podcasts, I am just extremely confused as to why you included any male voices on your latest podcast? I mean, truly, now, why must I endure male voices on a titled podcast to showcase female voices? Looking at all the musical recordings and references throughout history, surely the male ego has been adequately stroked to allow for women to, truly, be able to showcase their own musical abilities without treading on the chrystalline male ego? Sure, you, as a master musician in your own right, can do better, to research an entirely female show when it is marked as such? Yes, that was stroking your fragile male ego, because, after listening to you for so long, I’ve learned that you need such proddings. Simple male, will you never evolve to meet your female sister, ever?" Trip McCool emailed: "Marc, I want to thank you for playing "Gravy In The Grave". Both my wife and I had Grandfathers who fought in WWI and suffered poisoning from Mustard Gas. It was tough time for young Irish men who returned to a world with little to no support for the insanities of war. The ravages of the mind, body and soul. My Grandfather Frederick Michael Dougherty, was one of those who "Let the women do the thinking and the men do the drinking." Add four children, the stock market crash, the great depression and 'the old boy' was off for the greener pastures of the mind. When my father said, "You don't know what growing up tough is." he meant it! "You want gravy with your spuds! Sweet Jesus will give ya Gravy in The Grave." Keep your guard up!" James Martin emailed a photo: "I am frying up some giblet doggy treats while doing some thanksgiving meal prep. Someone in my house is very excited about these treats." Michael Carey emailed a photo: "always enjoy listening to your podcast when I am out walking my wife’s sulcatta tortoise. Here is the pic of Groot the tortoise and Iggy the iguana in West Palm Beach Florida"

This week, I’m talking about the 2021 Stock Market & Economy Outlook. Today, I’m talking about some likely winners in 2021. I touched on this briefly yesterday when I talked about the stock market outlook for 2021. So today, I’m going to talk more about why I think monies will flow into high quality dividend paying companies, as well as neglected areas such as cyclicals, financials, and small cap growth companies. Let’s start with high quality dividend paying stocks. I was surprised that dividend paying companies didn’t perform better in 2020 as the flight to quality during difficult stock markets and economic downturns typically props these types of companies up. In 2021, I think it’s reasonable to forecast that dividend paying companies will benefit as we begin to emerge from the pandemic recession. Dividend paying stocks tend to be profitable, cash cow businesses, with dominating positions in their market. Most dividend paying companies aren’t big tech or consumer discretionary companies, so they largely got left behind last year. I think returns in 2021 won’t be so lopsided - in 2020, unless you invested in big tech or consumer discretionary companies, your portfolio likely underperformed the stock market in 2020. I think returns will likely be normalized in 2021 as the economy begins to return to normal. Small cap companies were also largely ignored last year, as well as cyclical companies. However, both of these groups tend to do very well coming out of a recession, so I would expect the same in 2021. Lastly, financials were hit hard in 2020 and it was one of the worst sectors to be invested in last year. Low interest rates and business shutdowns hurt financials a lot, but as we emerge from the recession, financial and bank stocks seem poised for a strong recovery in 2021 especially as credit conditions improve. The key across all of these potential opportunities though is quality. There will still be plenty of losers, even in areas of opportunity, so choose your investments prudently in 2021. That’s it for today, but before you go, I have a special free offer just for you - my loyal listeners - the Retirement Success Forecaster. Using data from a simple questionnaire, I’ll be able to tell you if you’re on track for retirement, and if you’re not where you need to be at this stage in the game, what adjustments you can make today to live the retirement you envision. Identity theft is often not the result of some high-tech scam. It is frequently because someone digs through your trash and finds documents with personal information. I start this episode explaining ways you haven’t heard before to protect yourself from low-tech but highly effective dumpster divers who want to steal your identity. https://www.rd.com/list/shred-documents/ It is amazing how people in your life influence you in ways you don’t realize. The things you do, the decisions you make and the thoughts you think can all be heavily but unknowingly influenced by the people around you. Dr. Nicholas Christakis is a physician, sociologist and author of the book, Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks and How They Shape Our Lives (http://amzn.to/2EDBy1c) and he explains how this phenomenon works and why it is so important. People complain a lot about the post office but they really do a pretty good job. And the fact is you can do some things that will help speed up the mail and save you time and money. Listen as I explain. https://www.rd.com/advice/saving-money/mail-carrier-wont-tell-you Ever struggle to do something, like carry too many grocery bags – and someone offers to help and you say, “No thanks, I got it.”? Why? You need help, someone offers – why in the world would you decline? But we do it all the time. It seems that people just don’t like asking for help. Nora Klaver, author of the book, Mayday! Asking for Help in Time of Need (http://amzn.to/2EDT0Tq) explains why it is that we are so reluctant to ask for help and why accepting help is often a much better decision for so many reasons. Everyone can make predictions. But not everyone can make BOLD predictions. That's what Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech are here to do on this episode. The Pick Six Superfriends make some moderately unexpected and some borderline outlandish predictions for the Wild Card games this weekend (5:45) as well as the postseason as a whole (33:00). What is the most likely underdog to prevail on Saturday or Sunday? Is it the team with no nickname, the Bears, the Colts, or someone else? As we progress through the pod, let's just say there's a heavy emphasis on older QBs achieving a lot this January/February.
