The ranger's journey from level 5 to 20 is a majestic tale of growth, survival, and discovering that Hunter's Mark may not actually deserve permanent custody of your concentration. Randall's Gloom Stalker becomes an invisible crossbow machine, Ash's Drakewarden takes to the skies aboard a fire-breathing murder lizard, and Tyler spends sixteen levels converting every available feat, spell slot, and medical supply into increasingly desperate attempts to keep one flying snake alive. By level 20, two of these characters are legendary hunters. The third is still shouting, "Don't worry, buddy, I have Cure Wounds!" while filling out another pet insurance claim. Show Notes In this episode, we continue building our 2014 DnD 5e rangers, taking Randall's Gloom Stalker, Ash's Drakewarden, and Tyler's original Player's Handbook Beast Master from level 5 all the way to level 20. Extra Attack immediately improves everyone's combat potential, although Tyler is mostly excited because he can finally attack without ordering his flying snake to do it for him. From there, we examine the spells, feats, subclass features, and questionable design decisions that define the ranger's later levels. We also commit ranger heresy by asking whether Hunter's Mark is actually worth using. Magic Weapon offers better accuracy, reliable damage, an hour-long duration, and none of the constant bonus-action reassignment that interferes with Crossbow Expert, companion commands, and other important ranger abilities. As the builds gain more attacks and begin using Sharpshooter, improving the chance to hit becomes increasingly valuable, leaving Hunter's Mark standing in the wilderness wondering why nobody invited it to combat. The three subclasses develop very differently. Randall's Gloom Stalker continues doing Gloom Stalker things, including attacking repeatedly, disappearing into darkness, gaining Greater Invisibility, and generally becoming Batman with a crossbow. Ash's Drakewarden gains elemental damage, a flying companion, and a breath weapon that can turn a battlefield into an aerial geometry problem. Meanwhile, Tyler's Beast Master slowly crawls toward competence, eventually allowing his snake to attack twice and share spells, assuming it survives long enough to enjoy either feature. At the highest levels, the ranger's progression becomes much less exciting. Fifth-level spells offer a few useful options, Feral Senses arrives with awkward limitations, and the class gives players several excellent reasons to multiclass after level 15. The journey concludes with Foe Slayer, a capstone so underwhelming that the group proposes replacing it with a legendary death arrow capable of instantly killing enemies, because a level-20 ranger should receive something more exciting than occasionally adding Wisdom to one attack. Finally, the Question of the Week examines why players reacted differently to the DnD 2024 rules and the Pathfinder 2e Remaster. The discussion explores community expectations, the circumstances behind each revision, compatibility concerns, and the uncomfortable space occupied by an update that changes too much to feel like ordinary 5e but not enough to feel like a genuinely new edition. The late-level class features are underwhelming. Feral Senses has frustrating restrictions, and Foe Slayer offers too little for a level-20 capstone, especially for rangers making numerous attacks every round. Subclass choice dramatically changes the ranger experience. As the buffalo draw close, Jim criticizes the animals' lack of intelligence and explains their tendency to stampede blindly. He then demonstrates how to set up a tripod shooting stand for his single-shot, lever-action Sharps .50 rifle. Jim methodically accounts for distance, wind, and bullet arc before opening fire. Using his specialized tripod, Jim systematically drops one buffalo after another; the narrator watches the animals lose their wild dignity as forty of them are killed without alerting the rest of the herd.Once the hunt concludes, Jim signals the team to begin the arduous work of processing the kill. The skinners move the wagons forward and immediately begin skinning the carcasses using specialized knives and a horse-hitch to peel the hides away. The October 20 edition of the AgNet News Hour celebrated two sides of California agriculture — tradition and technology — with guests Brian Van Groningen of Van Groningen & Sons and Gabe Sibley, CEO of Verdant Robotics. Hosts Nick Papagni and Josh McGill blended the warmth of fall harvest with the excitement of ag innovation, reminding listeners why California remains the heart of American farming. Van Groningen, dubbed the “Pumpkin King of California,” joined the show from Manteca, where his family farm grows over 60 varieties of pumpkins ranging from small gourds to 200-pound giants. “San Joaquin County produces about 80% of the pumpkins shipped and sold in California,” he said. “We're proud to grow pumpkins that make families smile every fall.” He explained how the farm's operations run from April through October, with harvest peaking in late fall. Most of their pumpkins are grown for ornamental and decorative use, though a few specialty varieties are dual-purpose — fit for both pie and display. Van Groningen also spoke about the importance of ag education, sharing how his family partners with local schools and the San Joaquin Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom program to teach kids where their food comes from. “We need to reconnect people to agriculture,” he said. “California-grown food is the safest in the world, and it's important people know that.” He encouraged families to visit local pumpkin patches this Halloween season, especially the Van Groningen & Sons retail stand on Jack Tone Road, where visitors can see the farm's vibrant varieties up close. “Take your kids out, make memories, and enjoy the harvest,” he said. In the second half of the show, the focus shifted from pumpkins to precision with Gabe Sibley, co-founder and CEO of Verdant Robotics. The Grinders are back. WOOH! And we are ready to celebrate, brother. What ya gonna do when RPGrindermania runs wild on you?! The same ol' Grinders but now with more headbutts, low blows, and eye pokes than any Face could handle. WOOH! In a surprising Face turn Break actually shows up on time to join Eric and Frank for a 3-Vs-News Hardcore Match. The Grinders challengers? The dreaded News is back. The News brought with it the announcement that the Dragon Quest soundtracks are coming to Apple Music. The next member of the News is a release date for Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny. In a shocking Heel turn, Fate/Extra Record joins the News with a delay until next year. After pinning the news for a 3 count, the Grinders moved on to their next matches against the Reviews. With skill and mastery of the top rope, Eric is able to dominate the spoiler free review of the Fantastic 4: First Steps. Meanwhile, Frank used his signature Sharpshooter to make the Dog Soldiers tap-out. In the squared circle, no werewolves are a match for professional wrasslers. Werewolves can't SMEEEEEELLLLL what Frank is cooking.  The next match for the Grinders is against their greatest rival, the Stinkoes. It's a heated rivalry. Every fight ends in injuries or worse. Some former Grinders have never been heard from since. With the death of a music legend, the loss of an entire television network, and the funding cuts to the REAL news media, the Stinkoes are looking increasingly unbeatable. But if the Grinders want to be the man, they will have to beat the man. The Stinkoes are the man. The Stinkoes are tough, but the Grinders have their own tag partners to help them even the score. The Sweetoes are back and they will always have the Grinder's backs. No Ladder Match is a match for the return of a favorite tv show or the death of a man who tainted wrestling for decades. Apparently, he didn't say his prayers or eat his vegetables. With only one opponent left, the Grinders face off against their greatest challenge, the Panic Room. The only thing standing between the Grinders and shiny new belts. The ultimate slobberknocker, between 1st Amendment rights or going to jail. Can the Grinders triumph and hoist the gold they will soon wear around their waists? Or will the Grinders just have to get ready to suck it? One thing is for sure; everyone just made it onto Eric's List. WOOH!                   And that's the bottom line because BreakMan says so!  

With Redolencia behind them and a new friend on board, the crew of the Little Snail powers forward towards Calstega Bay. Unfortunately, as a familiar crack sounds in the distance, they find that the home of the Manakin is less welcoming than they'd hoped! Now, the ad hoc adventurers must find their way past the blockades and between the sniper's bullets if they hope to make it into the seaside town. This week on Perpetua: Journey to the Bay Pt. 03 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.03] Town Maps [TNMP] Calstega Bay [CBMP] While smaller towns and villages are set up in a single, scrolling screen, larger cities like Calstega Bay are broken up into different “district” zones. Each one has a bunch of stuff in it, so for the sake of speed (this is an IN PROGRESS FAQ after all!) I'm going to just list the basics and I'll come back later if more detail is needed. Anyway, without further to do: Northcrook  A.K.A. “Crookville,” this is the primary way of entering during the opening scenario. There's a hospital here (with a doctor who has some very funny dialog). You can grind here for a little bit against both Valtese Guards and “Cheetahs.” (They're not Cheetahs, they're Manakin Gang Members that have Cheetah Spots on them. I don't know that the developers know what gangs are like in real life.). The Free Quarter This is the big central square of town that connects most of the other districts to one another. So you know what that means: You'll be running through it CONSTANTLY, especially after you get the disguise and the pass that let you move around freely. You can also go into the palace to learn some lore about the Manakin and Grand Sonnerie and the noble who used to rule here. And the clocktower at the top of the palace is the first of three places you can choose to have the big boss fight at at the end of the main quest chapter here! Westgate Markets This is where the big cooking competition happens, technically, but let me just focus on what you care about most here. The GEAR! There are a handful of random encounters here, but nowhere near as many as in Crookville. It's sort of just a weird corner of the city with nothing going on besides the gate. I don't know why it got its own zone. Maybe I'm missing something. Highrail This is where the train to the north comes. You'll walk past this place a BUNCH and go “why can't I just get on a train and get out of here.” BE PATIENT! It's also a great place to grind, especially against the modified Loader Bots. The second of three places you could have the boss fight at, depending on your dialog options. Night Docks I haven't been able to get into this place yet except for the cutscene where you go to the nearby hotel. It gets closed off after that. But before you go, definitely make sure to buy up as much IP as you can. Atelier Road This is what I'd call the “fancy shop” part of town. Later on in the game you can get mage equipment here plus some pretty good accessories, but for now it seems to be locked off by the Valtean Empire and the locals having staredowns. Roseshore  Despite all the signage warning about a sea monster, this is the fancy beach of the town. It's also the third possible boss fight location—I wonder if the monster gets involved with the fight if you have it there instead of the other places?
