“For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1    Submit a Podcast Listener Question HERE!    Today we continue season 5 of the podcast with our series on Freedom and Responsibility.  Cecilia and Claire help us dive into what freedom and responsibility look like for the first plane child, the 0-6 year old.   Cecilia Drabbant holds an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) diploma in Assistant to Infancy (0-3), as well as an AMI certificate in Montessori Core Principles. She also holds an Architecture Engineering degree from Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, Bandung, Indonesia, and completed her formation in evangelization from Emmanuel School of Mission in Rome, Italy. Her work includes serving both as a Toddler Directress and a Toddler Catechist for the weekly sessions at Renaissance Montessori School.  Since being introduced to the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in 2012, she has received CGS formation in Levels I, II, III, and Infant-Toddler, and has the opportunity to work with children at all levels. Additionally, she is recognized as a Level 1 Formation Leader.  A particularly meaningful moment in her ministry was when she and her team brought the first CGS Formation Course to Indonesia in its native language.  Currently, Cecilia serves as a Catechist and Atrium Program Director at Renaissance Montessori School in Nokesville, VA, also a Level II Catechist at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish Church in Colonial Beach, VA.      Claire Paglia is a child of the atrium. As an adult, she is an AMI-trained guide who has been in the primary environment for 12 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in education with a concentration in Montessori from Loyola University, Maryland. She worked for a year as a course assistant for the primary training center. In 2012, she received her Level I formation and has been a catechist at her church in varying capacities since then. She enjoys spending time with her family and particularly enjoys preparing Montessori-friendly spaces at home for her three children.      Books you may be interested in:    Nurturing the Whole Child by Gianna Gobbi    Positive Discipline in the Montessori Classroom  The Discovery of the Child    Carolyn Kohlhaas's blog The Wanderings of Sheep in the Atrium:  Freedom and Limits Series:  Freedom within Limits  "Can" and "May"  Belonging  Staying on the Path  The Collective Interest  A Place of Work  Additional Limits  True Freedom    Podcast Episodes you might be interested in:  Episode 30 – Freedom and Discipline with Claire Paglia  Episode 49 – Four Planes of Development with Claire Paglia    BECOME AN ORGANIZATION MEMBER!  Organization Members are any entity (church/parish, school, regional group, diocese, etc.) that either offers CGS and/or supports those who serve the children as catechists, aides, or formation leaders) Organization Members also receive the following each month:  Bulletin Items - 4 bulletin articles for each month. Instead it offers a glimpse into the religious life of the atrium, a specially prepared place for children to live out their silent request: “Help me come closer to God by myself.” Here we can see the child's spiritual capabilities and perhaps even find in our own souls the child long burdened with religious information. This book serves as a companion to the second volume, The Religious Potential of the Child 6 to 12 Years Old. The desire to have this essential text available in audio has been a long-held goal for many. The work of many hands has combined to bring this release to life as an audiobook.    Find out more about CGS:       Learn more about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd     Follow us on Social Media-  Facebook at “The United States Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd”  Instagram-  cgsusa  Twitter- @cgsusa  Pinterest- Natl Assoc of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd USA  YouTube- catechesisofthegoodshepherd

On today's episode we are talking about how not understanding AI might be killing your company. Ajay Malik, former Head of Architecture/Engineering for Worldwide Corporate Network at Google, is a technologist, business futurist, and prolific inventor with over 100 patents in AI, Wi-Fi networking, quantum computing, and real-time location. He has founded and sold multiple startups, led a public company exit, and served as a Section 16 officer. Ajay authored several books, including "RTLS for Dummies," "Augmented Reality for Dummies," "Artificial Intelligence for Wireless Networking," and "First God, Then Man, Now AI - Shapes within Time Space." Currently, he is the CEO of SECO MIND USA LLC, which develops StudioX, a leading enterprise AI platform. Ajay has also held executive roles at Meru Networks, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, and Motorola, and holds a B.E. in Computer Science & Technology from IIT Roorkee, India. Key Discussion Points:The primary benefit of AI for organizations is the significant improvement in productivity and efficiency. This is particularly important in the current economic climate where maximizing efficiency is crucial.AI plays a vital role in knowledge management, especially as organizations face workforce turnover. AI can help capture and disseminate knowledge efficiently, aiding in training new employees and preserving institutional knowledge. While AI tools like ChatGPT offer significant benefits, they also pose security risks. Organizations need to be cautious about data privacy and implement strong policies and encryption measures to protect sensitive information when using AI tools.AI is expected to automate many job functions, leading to a significant shift in the job market. Jobs that can be performed remotely and those involving repetitive tasks are at high risk of automation. However, people-oriented jobs and roles requiring complex human interactions are less likely to be replaced by AI in the near future. The future will see a model where AI performs the bulk of the work, with humans providing essential oversight and decision-making. Individuals who can effectively use AI to enhance their productivity will thrive, emphasizing the need for critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the AI-driven workplace.Top Takeaways for the Audience:1.     Embrace AI for Growth: If you are not thinking about AI or using AI for your personal or business growth, it's time to start. People or businesses won't be replaced by AI itself but by those who leverage AI effectively.2.     Implement and Normalize AI Usage: Make AI usage a policy or initiative within your organization. Use AI with proper controls in place. Adopt a balanced approach where the first 15% of work is done manually, the next 70% with AI assistance, and the final 15% manually again. This method enhances productivity while maintaining critical thinking skills.3.     Learn from Others and Experiment: Don't hesitate to ask others about their AI practices and learn from them. Conduct small proof-of-concept projects to explore AI's potential in your organization or personal life. This experimentation can lead to improved velocity and quality with minimal investment. How to Connect with Ajay: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/artofai/Website: https://studiox.secomind.ai/

Charlotte Perriand is the most interesting woman in the world of 20th century design. Her life story reads like a spy adventure novel. She helped pioneer the Modernist movement in architecture and interior design; she escaped France as the Germans were invading — on a ship bound for Japan; she hid in an attic with her baby from murderous revolutionaries in Vietnam, avoiding almost certain death; she hiked and skied and built portable shelters in the Alps; she visited her husband in Rio and traveled to exotic locations like Tahiti and the Windward Islands, before they were polluted by tourism; And she designed and oversaw construction of one of the premiere French ski resort destinations.Through it all, she exhibited a zest for life and a desire to combine technology with arts and crafts to improve people's lives around the world. Paraphrasing Henry David Thoreau, she exemplified his motto that before you sit down to create, you have to stand up and live life. Her life of creation — the title of her autobiography — was a life of exhilarating experience. It was also a life of wrestling with contradictions: reconciling global modernism with traditional regionalism, technological progress with preservation of culture, and socialist ideals with the totalitarian realities of the 20th century. In this episode, we'll explore these themes in Perriand's own words and reflect on what it might mean for us as designers today.Outline* Irony of modernism (1:30)* Irony of collectivism (25:42)* Perriand's move away from modernism (37:36)* Irony of progress (51:39)* Her philosophy (59:59)* Parting thoughts (1:06:43)References* Charlotte Perriand: A Life of Creation by Charlotte Perriand (Goodreads)* Modern Architecture: A Critical History by Kenneth Frampton (Goodreads)* Towards a New Architecture by Le Corbusier (Goodreads)* A Guide To The World's Greatest Buildings — Masterpieces of Architecture & Engineering edited by Trevor Howells (Goodreads)* Inside Le Corbusier's Brutalist Radiant City (SkyriseCities)* Habitat 67 as seen from Montreal's port (Wikipedia) This is a public episode. Hello Smart Firefighting Community! Welcome to another episode of covering real world innovations via interviews with fire service and technology industry experts that empower YOU to develop your very own Smart Firefighting strategy! This is the 1st episode of our FRST Challenge Mini Series! Tracking has long been a problem even though it's vital for operational safety, so innovators worldwide are working to improve first responders' lives everywhere... In this episode: - What is FRST Challenge? - Why do emergency responders need 3D tracking technology? - How can you participate in the competition? With 46 years of experience and the reputation of a highly regarded global instructor plus national author, lecturer and fire officer, who better than to hear about the necessity of FRST Challenge other than Christopher Naum, SFPE? Current Chief of Training for the Command Institute of the Center for Fireground Leadership and Technical Consultant/Advisor & SME to the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health Firefighter Fatality Investigation Program, Naum is a leading advocate on firefighter safety, Operational Risk Modeling and Adaptive Fireground Management as well as a recognized authority on Building Construction and Fireground Operations. With a distinguishing record of accomplishments and over 20 years of experience in the Fire and Emergency Services, Architecture Engineering, Fire Protection, Industrial Safety, Behavioral Based Safety, and academia/research, Naum has been lecturing globally for over 37 years and is a former instructor with the National Fire Academy. Lastly, but certainly not least, he was a 27 year Contributing Editor with Firehouse Magazine® & Firehouse.com®. Just like all other firefighters, Naum has witnessed how inaccurate GPS tracking aggravates operations - causing a loss of time and control - and is eager to see what developers submit for the competition. FRST Challenge exists to identify 3D tracking technology that can give first responders one-meter accuracy in an indoor setting (use cases include emergency rescue operations and survivor location within large buildings) and to provide competitors with entrepreneurial mentoring. Since her childhood, Fara Taraie has been exposed to global cultures, being born in the middle east, spending middle to high school in Europe and South Korea, studying in Iran, and finally arriving in Japan. In total, Ms. Taraie has lived in six different countries. After graduating with a master's degree in Architecture Engineering from Tokyo University, Ms. Faraie began working as an architect for a large Japanese corporation as she wanted to learn the ecosystem of big companies involved in large scale building projects. She soon became more interested in sustainable design and contributing to society, leading her to work with more startup companies. Ms. Taraie is currently the country manager for ImpacTech, an organization that supports startups to enter the Japanese market and create social, environmental, and economical impact. Ms. Taraie is also the founder of New Norm Design, architecture firm specializing in sustainable design.   Ms. Taraie believes in educating and developing her people to gain mutual trust and engagement. As ImpacTech is an NPO, she understands there is more than money the organization can offer, including the opportunity to create social impact and connect with other start-ups. In this way, she has found that her staff are able to form valuable connections which help further develop their careers or even start their own businesses. She also encourages them to learn new skills and grow in their field. Ms. Taraie believes her team will become more comfortable being held accountable and come up with innovative ideas. Additionally, she has observed: “If you educate someone to work with you, you will see the chances of them leaving is much lower.”   Ms. Taraie advises newcomers in Japan to learn Japanese and have a good understanding of the culture in order to work here. She also explains that sometimes, instead of changing a system, it is better to come up with a new system that works better.

She Builds Podcast is a show featuring the seldom told stories of women who build; women whose worth is not taught in architecture school, but who have shaped the industries of architecture, construction, and development throughout history. The podcast was started by Jessica Rogers, Lizi Raar and Norgerie Rivas, three friends who, after graduating from Syracuse University School of Architecture together, wanted to fill in the gaps in their education and share those with others. Episodes have featured Norma Merrick Sklarek, Julia Morgan, Jane Drew, Eileen Gray, Zaha Hadid, and many more!  In this episode, Jessica, Lizi, and Norgerie share the origin story of She Builds, their process for researching and putting together the show, and the most interesting things they’ve learned about the women they’ve featured. We also talk about the importance of seeing others like yourself in the profession, and how architecture history curricula are still stuck in their old male-dominated Eurocentric ways, but that this might slowly be changing. The Future of Architecture, Engineering, and Design, with Matt Jarmel Building Materials Industry | How to Win Work With AEC Firms Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA, MBA (Matt) is the managing principal of Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, a leading provider of architecture, engineering, and interior design services based in Livingston, NJ. Jarmel Kizel provides a single point of accountability, to advise its clients throughout the entire development process; from land entitlements through design and construction. With a full range of architectural and engineering services, it is critical for Matt to keep an eye on the building materials industry. He is constantly working to stay ahead of new trends so that his firm can utilize the most advanced, cost-effective materials in the structures they design. Flexibility and Sustainability Whenever the building materials industry introduces new processes or technologies, Matt uses flexibility and sustainability as reference points to gauge where the industry is heading next. Flexibility and sustainability are huge drivers for the transformation of the building industry because as technology evolves, the way we use buildings changes. As we move towards net-zero buildings, we need technology capable of bending to those changes; we need building materials companies that can deliver them. While design firms work to create buildings that can be repurposed and reused down the road, new opportunities for building materials arise simultaneously. This could mean the integration of photovoltaic cells and traditional building materials, wind sails, or even new solar-thermal applications. Get More Visibility There are many ways for companies in the building materials industry to increase their visibility with design firms, but key decision-makers are difficult to reach. And while you might catch their attention in a magazine or a targeted ad, direct communication is the best way to educate them about your products. This requires strategy and a strong web presence that builds familiarity and trust with your brand before anyone on your team makes the first touchpoint. Lunch and learns, LinkedIn messaging, and email communication are some of the tactics you can use. If you want to learn more about winning business from architecture, engineering, and construction firms, listen to Matt’s episode here. About Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA, MBA Licensed in 30 states Matt is a true practitioner of the architectural profession helping clients through traditional A/E design, with additional guidance in land entitlement strategies and financing options. He maintains ‘big picture’ project oversight, for projects in a multitude of industries, including building repositioning and modernization, urban renewal, educational and child development centers, multi-family housing, roll-outs, fitness and wellness, corporate interiors, healthcare, and data centers. Matthew has qualified as an expert witness and testified before Municipal Planning and Zoning Boards, Redevelopment Authorities, and the Court System on land planning and development projects. He has provided expert commentary and has written articles for the following publications: The New York Times, The Star-Ledger, NJ Biz, Real Estate New Jersey, Real Estate Weekly, Brandweek, and The Trenton Times. What You Will Learn: The challenges that design firms are facing as buildings evolve How building materials companies can help design firms create more flexible, sustainable structures What Matt sees in the future of the building materials industry How to increase visibility with design firms in the building materials industry The decision-makers you should be after, and the best tactics for educating them about your products The benefits of creating educational content for the end-user of your products The area of building materials that Matt thinks will have the greatest impact on the AEC industry Resources: Website: https://www.jarmelkizel.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JarmelKizel LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/jarmel-kizel-architects-and-engineers-inc/ Instagram: @jarmelkizel Twitter: @JarmelKizel

When it comes to technology adoption, a 2016 study ranked the construction industry at the bottom of the innovation heap - right next to agriculture and hunting. Jacksonville’s esteemed construction, engineering and architecture business, The Haskell Group, immediately seized the opportunity to propel their industry forward by launching their own innovation and investment arm, Dysruptek. In our tenth episode of Innovate Jax, Dysruptek’s director, Cutler Knupp, shares how with everything from modular construction to wearable sensors, the job site of the future will be connected, safer and cutting edge - and attract an entirely new workforce. It’s natural that The Haskell Group would lead the innovation charge since founder and CEO Preston Haskell rewrote the rules of commercial construction from the time he founded the company in 1965. His integrated “design-build” approach is now a global industry standard. With Dysruptek conducting R&D in its Atlanta-based innovation center, discovering early-stage companies with novel solutions, collaborating with an ecosystem that includes local companies like Miller Electric and academia who can train tomorrow’s workforce, Haskell continues to build on this legacy. And Jacksonville can be proud of the thriving foundation being laid around the world.

He has graduated in Architecture Engineering in Munich besides having done designs which include projects such as a car design as part of a collaboration for Audi, web design, flyers, furniture design, etc. Since it is of so important for Claus to express himself in various artistic ways it is not hard to see why he ended up choosing music as a form of expression. Listening to his sets it can be seen that his musical knowledge is very refined, not only by being technically competent but he seems to have what it takes to take his crowd on a journey with a very sensible set construction and by presenting a good/well researched track selection which goes away from the ‘hype’ within the underground music spectrum available. His style can be described as groove driven techhouse. Enjoy Claus Voigtmann's Metroline Podcast
