Would a professional robbery crew rent a getaway vehicle in their own name? Would it be difficult to get rid of another vehicle, that contained a mask and deposit slips? Probably not but, that is what this crew did, it appeared that booze and cocaine had gotten the best of the "Boston Bandits". The code of silence was broken, if it ever really existed. Brother would soon testify against brother. The murderous Hudson N.H. robbery would imprison the crew, but it was not the last robbery, nor the last shootout. The FBI would use a novel prosecution strategy for this group. The feds used the RICO statute to bring this crew to justice. Most of the crew received life sentences. The least of the sentences was more than thirty years in federal prison. Was it all worth it, to die in the joint...broke? USA v. Burke et al-https://bit.ly/3RuwEtoLA Times-https://lat.ms/48ewv4r

A double homicide of armored car guards in 1994, revealed a professional crew of armed robbers from, Charlestown, Mass. The investigation that followed found an unrelenting string of bank and armored car robberies, that continued, even after this botched robbery that netted $500,000. The trial crushed the code of silence that the criminals had counted on, if it truly existed at all. The murder of two working class guards turned the local population against the crew. The trial would find brother testifying against brother. These events would rock gritty Charlestown and the rest of Boston. Blackie, a jewel thief and safecracker in Boyle's stories, became a detective in adaptations for films, radio and television—an "enemy to those who make him an enemy, friend to those who have no friend." Actor Chester Morris was the best-known Blackie, playing the character in 14 Columbia Pictures films (1941–1949) and in a 1944 NBC radio series. RODNEY M. CLUFF, author of World Top Secret: Our Earth IS Hollow! was born and raised in the American Mormon colony of Colonia Juarez in northern Mexico. He became interested in the Hollow Earth Theory at the age of 16 while working on a New Mexico farm where the farm manager's son told the workers of the theory. He expressed his opinion to the workers that he thought the Hollow Earth would be an ideal place for the Lord to hide the Lost Tribes of Israel! This comment really caught Rodney's interest, and he determined he would like to look further into this idea. Many years later, while working for Armored Car in Phoenix, Arizona, Mr. Cluff noticed an advertisement of Raymond Bernard's book, The Hollow Earth in a tabloid newspaper. He sent for it and thereby began many years of study and writing which has led to the present work.

Off-roading or on-roading, the Unnamed Automotive Podcast is here to help you get through your week. First up this week, Sami talks about the 2023 Honda Passport Trailsport, a somewhat MORE off-road oriented version of an SUV Honda proclaimed was already capable off-road. The Trailsport gets rugged-style tires, fun badging, and skid-plates, as well as a higher price point, but is that enough to make it recommendable over other, more off-road oriented SUVs? Plus how many times in a segment can Sami say sport? You be the judge! Then Benjamin brings up the 2023 Subaru Legacy XT, also known as the sedan counterpart of the popular and instantly recognizable Subaru Outback. Benjamin's time in the Legacy brought out many existential questions like 'is this car good?' 'why does this car matter?' and 'who is buying this car?' which could only be worked through on this week's episode of the podcast. Be sure to listen and chime in later. Finally, the guys talk about armored and bullet-proof vehicles, , what's involved in building them, and who needs such a service. Be sure to listen, review, subscribe and reach out to us on social media or our website.

A talk by Thanissaro Bhikkhu entitled "The Armored Car"
Retired agent Neil Herman and retired NYPD Detective/Lt. Kevin Hallinan review the three-year crime spree in the New York metropolitan area that culminated on October 20, 1981, when 11 members of the Weather Underground, a radical domestic terrorist group, carried out a Brink's armored car robbery at the Nanuet Mall in Nyack, New York. Using high-powered weapons, the terrorist group stole 1.6 million dollars, and shot and killed bank security guard Peter Paige. During their getaway, they also shot and killed Nyack Police Department Sgt. Edward J. O'Grady, Jr. and Police Officer Waverly "Chipper" Brown. This case, code-named NYROB, was the first major investigation of the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force after it was formed in 1980 to investigate the growing number of terrorist acts targeting New York. Neil and Kevin also discuss modern terrorism and the early days of the multi-agency FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) partnership, the first in the county. Their messages to active agents and law enforcement are truly inspirational. The Flubble Montage was especially busy this morning, since both Chaz and AJ struggled to shake off "vacation mode." (0:00) Chaz and AJ were hoping for some interesting stories when they asked the Tribe to share how they were arrested. No one was prepared for the story Lenny called in with. (6:58) Chaz and AJ asked the Tribe about the times people accidentally found their porn, or caught them in a sexual act. It seems to happen pretty often, by the sheer number of callers. (13:43) Filling in for Boss Keith, Allan Lamberti joined Chaz and AJ for his Top 5 definitive mustaches of the 1980's. (33:17) Dumb Ass News - Anytime a video goes viral on TikTok, Chaz and AJ are always at least a little skeptical that it could be staged or faked entirely. The more they looked through the incident of a woman jumping through a drive thru window to cook her own food, the more they believed it to be true. Preliminary numbers for the 2021 Executive Vehicle & Secure Transportation Survey A little background if you are not familiar with the survey. The Survey is conducted every two years since 2013. Over the last eight years, the survey has covered various aspects of secure transportation. The goal of the survey is to examine trends and collect data to develop a broader perspective on the secure transportation profession. The 2021 survey is unique because it covers the span of time that the industry was dealing with the Pandemic. The final report will examine the differences in the metrics covering the eight-year time span, emphasizing the change from 2019 to 2021. Driving and Sunglasses Many security drivers drive in the sunrise and the sunset. Blinding glare from low sunlight or bright light reflecting off snow, puddles, other vehicles, or even your own hood can be potentially lethal. Glare is frequently cited as the cause of traffic accidents, but the right pair of sunglasses can prevent it. There is some confusion, though, about what sunglasses you should wear when driving. ISDA asked the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians for guidance. What it Takes to Make an Armored Car Our next topic comes from an interesting and informative article from the February issue of Motor Trend Magazine. The article titled “What it Takes to Make an Armored Car” covers the process used by armored vehicle manufacturers to produce an armored vehicle. It covers the subjects of Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, Payload, the types of armored material used, such as opaque and transparent armor. The article also covers what they call overlapping, a thin band that goes around the perimeter of the door or on the vehicle's frame that prevents rounds from entering the vehicle within the seams of the door. And of course, they cover the cost of doing all that. Tom Cruise's Stolen BMW X7 Our last topic this week is one that a few EP groups were chatting about. The theft of Tom Cruise's BMW X7. It was outside Birmingham Grand Hotel while Tom Cruise was shooting for Mission Impossible 7. The vehicle was transportation for the actor Tom Cruise. It contained Mr. Cruise's luggage when the vehicle was stolen. From all reports, he was not happy, and we would imagine that the transportation providers had some explaining to do. Not knowing the actual circumstances, it's hard to place blame, but the ultimate responsibility lies with the driver and the company supplying Mr. Cruise with his transportation. What is of concern to Security Drivers and Secure Transportation providers is how the thieves stole the BMW.
In 1937, the Esercito Italiano (Eng. Italian Royal Army) realized that the Lancia 1ZM armored cars in service in the reconnaissance units since 1915, still employed in the Italian African Colonies and in the Spanish Civil War, even if still efficient, were obsolete because they were not fast, were weakly armored and had bad off-road driving capabilities. This led to the development of the Autoblindo Fiat-Ansaldo series, of which the most prominent was the AB41. The pier is in danger of shutting down for safety reasons unless $50,000 can be raised so someone came up with the great idea to park a 20-ton armored truck filled with $100,000 cash on top of it and put 2 women in bikinis next to it for people to pay $5 cash for a picture with the money and girls. Sure it's slightly confusing but there's really no other way to raise money for a pier in need. Garner is worried that this is a bad idea but later in the episode he seems ok with it. Unfortunately the pier eventually gives out and takes Eddie and Shauni who are trapped inside down to the bottom of the ocean. Will they survive? You have to listen to this podcast or watch the episode or look up the episode summary online to find out! There's also a surprisingly entertaining storyline involving Jill and Trevor competing in a Pro-Am volleyball tournament so she can beat her creepy former lover and volleyball partner who is favored to win. Do Jill & Trevor prevail in the finals after being down big? I'll tell you right now that of course that's what happens because the protagonist always wins the big game in TV or movies. But Eddie & Shauni? They might die! (Probably not)
It was one of the largest heists in U.S. history and it happened right here in South Carolina.
