The 2024 Honda Passport Trailsport adds a dash of rugged machismo to Honda's two-row people mover. Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that sends 280 hp through a nine-speed transmission, this all-wheel-drive Trailsport has enough oomph to handle tasks. Evolving the third-gen Passport is the Trailsport package, which adds all-terrain tires, revised suspension tuning, and Honda's i-VVTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. This Honda rides the wave of crossover popularity and adds a healthy dose of adventure-ready hardware.  On the other side of the automotive spectrum, the once-thriving mid-size sedan segment is thinning. Hyundai's Sonata is seeing a similar reflection with its sales a fraction of its early 2010s peak. That said, this eighth-generation Sonata features a 1.6-liter turbocharged I4 that sends 180 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels by way of an eight-speed automatic transmission.  On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, Wesley Wren chats with Natalie Neff about two vehicles that couldn't be further apart in reality but are sitting close on the sales charts. The pair talk about their experiences with these vehicles, the changing automotive landscape, and the proliferation of adventure-focused crossovers. Closing the show, the pair decide which one they'd add to their driveway.

Kelly and Lizz are on a secret mission in Montana today! Details to come in February, but for now…an episode of the Carpool to get you through this slumpy time of year. Clean girl aesthetic was in, now the mob wife aesthetic is taking over. Kelly and Lizz have mixed feelings about the trend and are sharing it all on today's driveway dumps. They also wonder…are the Kardashians in their flop era? On the topic of self-centered consumption, Kelly gives a nod to @BallerinaFarm who is competing in Mrs USA 12 days postpartum, even though she probably wouldn't do the same herself. The great eight of chips is here! Going head to head in this crunchy battle are Cool Ranch Doritos, Cheetos, Twisted BBQ Fritos, and BBQ Chips, Salt and Vinegar, Sour Cream and Onion, Jalapeno Kettle, and Cheddar and Sour Cream Potato Chips. Today's ditch the drive-through is Razi's Cilantro Lime Chicken and Rice. Take two chicken breasts, cover in olive oil, squeeze half of a lime over the chicken and then season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder and chili powder. Do yourself a favor and buy some disposable gloves so you can pop those on and mix the chicken up before cooking it in a pan on the stove.  To make the cilantro lime sauce place one third cup cilantro, one jalapeno without seeds, two garlic cloves, juice of half a lime, one third cup of plain Greek yogurt, one teaspoon of honey, and salt and pepper to taste. Opposites Attack: 2024 Honda Passport TrailSport, 2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

Our two test vehicles this week couldn't be more different. The 2024 Honda Passport TrailSport is the brand's latest effort to cash in on the current off-road craze that continues to sweep the nation. With all-terrain tires, a trick torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system and some appearance mods, the Passport TrailSport isn't just fun to say; it is also fun to drive. But will it do the job off-road? That is a question we raise in this episode of America on the Road. Co-Host Chris Teague had the opportunity to test the TrailSport in some of the wettest weather ever to hit the state of Maine. Was the Honda off-roader up to the challenge? He'll have the answer to that and more details as well. On the other side of the automotive coin is the 2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible. It is hard to imagine a more on-road-oriented vehicle than this six-figure specialty car from Toyota's luxury brand. In its tech and driver assistance features, the LC 500 ragtop is as new as tomorrow, but under the hood, its 5.0-liter normally aspirated V8 engine is a definite throwback. Happily, we like throwbacks, especially when they offer more than 400 horsepower. The overall result is a car that is both fun to drive and fun to be seen in. Host Jack Nerad will tell you more about his week with the car in the road test segment. In the news this week, official word has come in that an iconic performance vehicle is going to come to market as a battery electric in 2026. We'll tell you the model and give you more details in this episode. As we have reported in the past several weeks, EVs are piling up on dealers' lots and used EV values are plummeting. We'll tell you why this is happening and what it means to you, even if you don't plan to buy an electric car. While many carmakers are still touting a battery-electric future, Hyundai is about to announce a giant new initiative too create a hydrogen ecosystem. We'll have details and our reactions a bit later. This week, our special guest is Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions. Fiorani is a much-quoted expert on the world's automotive industry from the inside, and he'll give us his perspective on 2023 and on what we can expect in 2024. All that and more are coming up in this episode of America on the Road. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, YourTestDriver.com, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

Buying a vehicle made in the United States is essential to many consumers. According to Cars.com, about half of the car buyers in the United States say they will pay more for a vehicle that creates U.S. jobs. Additionally, 24 percent of Americans believe a manufacturer has to be headquartered in the U.S. to qualify as "substantially contributing to the U.S. economy." Tesla holds the top four places in the 18th annual American-Made Index announced by Cars.com. Jenni Newman, the editor-in-chief of cars.com, is our guest this week on The Weekly Driver Podcast. We discuss consumers' preferences for cars made in the United States. Co-host Bruce Aldrich is away this week, so I interview Newman, a repeat guest, about the online publication's 18th annual American-Made Index (AMI). The index independently evaluates and ranks the highest-contributing vehicles to the U.S. economy for manufacturing, parts sourcing and employment. The Honda Odyssey is a mainstay on the American-Made Index announced recently by Cars.com. Image © James Raia/2016. Newman speaks to the methodology behind the compilation of the list, the disconnect between consumer understanding and the American-made automotive market. This year, the AMI consideration set comprises 388 vehicles. Only 100 made the cut with Tesla sweeping the first four spots, joined at the top by mainstay Honda and returning Acura. Volkswagen is debuting in the Index's top 10. Here's the list, Nos. 1-10 on this year's AMI list: Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model X, Tesla Model S, Honda Passport, Volkswagen ID.4, Honda Odyssey, Acura MDX, Honda Ridgeline, Acura RDX. Please join me as Newman and I examine the AMI list and further discuss its relevance in today's automotive marketplace. Off-roading or on-roading, the Unnamed Automotive Podcast is here to help you get through your week. First up this week, Sami talks about the 2023 Honda Passport Trailsport, a somewhat MORE off-road oriented version of an SUV Honda proclaimed was already capable off-road. The Trailsport gets rugged-style tires, fun badging, and skid-plates, as well as a higher price point, but is that enough to make it recommendable over other, more off-road oriented SUVs? Plus how many times in a segment can Sami say sport? You be the judge! Then Benjamin brings up the 2023 Subaru Legacy XT, also known as the sedan counterpart of the popular and instantly recognizable Subaru Outback. Benjamin's time in the Legacy brought out many existential questions like 'is this car good?' 'why does this car matter?' and 'who is buying this car?' which could only be worked through on this week's episode of the podcast. Be sure to listen and chime in later. Finally, the guys talk about armored and bullet-proof vehicles, , what's involved in building them, and who needs such a service. WOW! Joe Biden really did say that if Americans think they have any “right” to own weapons under the Second Amendment for the purpose of “controlling the Federal Government”, then We The People are wrong. He said we will need F-15s and nuclear weapons! Louis Avallone and Stephen Parr compare this declaration by Joe Biden (and the Biden Administration) to the Chinese Tiananmen Square Massacre in June, 1989, where thousands of peaceful demonstrators were brutally killed. Now you understand what the Socialist-Marxist Democrats really intend to do and why they are determined to confiscate all our personally owned weapons…..to leave us as defenseless as those Chinese. And knowing the top leaders of the American military are so deep into the Democrat “wokeness” today is also a concern. Biden definitely was threatening use of the military against the American people, even though the American military is never supposed to be used against us.The State of Mississippi has just been sued by he Mississippi Humanist Association and American Atheists Inc. because their State license plate has “In God We Trust”. They claim it forces them display a religious message on their vehicles, as well as cleaning it violates their Freedom of Speech. Since it is the motto of the United States and has it printed on our money since 1864, this is going to be an interesting case to follow.Winning at anything should not be so important that it justifies cheating, especially not when it involves kids' sports and the adults are the ones doing it. Too much of our culture today had devolved into those depths, however. Rather than saying “everyone is doing it”, good Americans need to start investigating it and working to make it public. (If you know of a cheating story, contact us at American Ground Radio.)Having said that, this segment of @American Mamas is very personal to Teri Netterville and Denise Arthur. Catholic High School in Baton Rouge has just been sanctioned by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) for recruiting violations, and Championship titles have been stripped for its various State Titles between 2017 through 2020. Apparently, there was some major recruiting of athletes, following scouting of middle schools, which is not permitted. Even though Catholic High School was fined and the titles stripped, the recruited players were not ordered back to their “zoned school of attendance,” and will be allowed to continue being students at Catholic High School. These students were not the ones doing the cheating. It was adults. The Democrats are much more interested in enabling illegals to become voting Democrats than they are about protecting the American citizens. As a result, it seems to have taken the fear of Donald Trump getting to the Texas-Mexico border before Kamala Harris got her “photo opportunity” to finally get her to make the trip. However, if she really wanted to learn about the border problems, she would be going to Del Rio with Rep. Henry Cuellar (D) instead of to El Paso (home of Beto). The problem of a continual decline in the birthrate there start to be a decline in eligible people to replace people leaving the work force because of age, retirement, or death. Germany, Bosnia, Italy, France, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, and the United States are among a number of Nations experiencing a definite decline in the number of live births in recent years. In the US, this trend started about 2007, as the economy dropped, and it really has not recovered. There are several reasons for a declining birthrate, including the cost of raising a child today, and a sense of political instability. The states hardest hit in the last part of 2020 are New Mexico, New York, California, Hawaii, and West Virginia. Except for West Virginia, the other states had the strictest COVID lockdowns. Cars.com tracks several factors to determine how much of each automobile is really a “Made in America” vehicle — meaning where it was assembly, the percentage of its parts are American manufactured, where the engines and transmissions were manufactured, and how much of the labor to make it is actually American. The results can be surprising, and you cannot go by the brand name any more. 1.) Tesla Model 3, 2.) Ford Mustang, 3.) Tesla Model Y, 4.) Jeep Cherokee, 5.) Chevrolet Corvette, 6.)
