You're essentially giving the cells the things that they need to Dr. John E. Lewis So, it's kind of like if you have a car, I use this very poor analogy, because I can't think of a better one. But if your car has water in the gas tank, and it's kind of sputtering along, it still runs, but it's sputtering and doesn't really drive that well. You get that water cleared out, and then you give it high test 93 grade gasoline. And now boom, suddenly, your car is running like its brand new again. A primary stimulus for the origin of Dr Lewis Nutrition occurred when Dr. Lewis ran his landmark study on how an aloe polysaccharide multi-nutrient complex improved cognitive and immune functioning after 12 months in persons with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease, leading to the creation of the dietary supplement, Daily Brain Care. Between 5 and 6 million Americans (approximately 40 million worldwide) suffer from Alzheimer's disease today, and the Alzheimer's Association predicts that number to more than double by 2030. While prepping for the show and researching the Culture of Love in Ithaca Schools, I was celebrating my 17th wedding anniversary with my wife, Jennifer Marotta. It made me think about the culture of love that we are building not only in our marriage, but also with our whole family. If you are married, you know it is not all rosey all the time. I reflected on the things that we do to make our marriage work: Here are a few of those reflections: 1. From my friend Dr. Bird (show #45), bring patience, love, and gratitude to one another--If your continue to focus on these three virtues, you will move past the things that upset you about one another. Be grateful for the good things in your life! Gratitude is the mother of all virtues! 2. Listen, don't fix! Hear your partner, take a breath, and don't try to fix every little thing. Leave it be. (this took me a long time, right Jenn?!) 3. Do what you say are you are going to do. When you do this, it creates consistent positive deposits in your relationship. 4. Keep him/her on a pedestal. My wife told me this after our first year of marriage that I stopped doing this. I think I became complacent, and that I did not have to "pursue" her anymore. I let the "special-ness" go and I thank her for telling me this so many years ago. 5. Build your partner up, don't break down. You support me too much SAID NO SPOUSE EVER! 6. Be committed: so many things in our society today are disposable and easily changed, exchanged, etc etc. Imagine if it was impossible for your marriage to fail? Well it should be, so make it that way! Show commitment! 7 & 8. Take adventures together and always make special time for just for the two of you! 9. Don't air your dirty laundry to others. 10. Live the life together that you want your children to have. He is also a Scientific Investigator at the Fundación Clínica Valle del Lili and the Corporación de Lucha contra el SIDAin Cali, Colombia. Dr. Lewis has co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, has been an invited speaker at multiple international and national conferences, and has mentored many graduate and medical students in exercise, nutrition, and health promotion. His primary research interests combine nutrition education, physical activity, and behavioral strategies to reduce the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. His main interest is promoting whole-food, plant-based nutrition in combination with cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, and flexibility as a comprehensive approach to health promotion.
