#BMW #BMWM8 #drifting TRACCIÓN TOTAL O PROPULSIÓN La electrónica no para de ganar terreno en la gestión de los distintos dispositivos de los automóviles modernos, y en ocasiones, está aquí para ayudarnos. Muchas veces pensamos en ella en términos negativos, de coartar nuestra capacidad de disfrute del automóvil o incluso de cortarla, pero en ocasiones también ha demostrado sobradamente su eficacia, como con los controles de estabilidad, o el abs, que tantas vidas han salvado y salvarán. Y de nuevo, bien pensada y afinada, puede servir también para darnos más posibilidades de diversión, como es este caso. Aquí os presento un ejemplo de esto último. Un BMW M8 de última hornada con un interesantísimo sistema de transmisión que, con los controles electrónicos desactivados, es capaz de convertirse en propulsión (impulsión sólo con las ruedas traseras) a tracción total, simplemente pulsando un botón. Con la ayuda de mi compañero Víctor Fernández os muestro cómo funciona este sistema con todo lujo de detalle y el resultado final que da, para que os hagáis una idea de hasta dónde puede llegar un control de tracción extraordinariamente avanzado, tanto, que es capaz, por primera vez, de cambiar el eje de tracción del vehículo, de tal manera que nos permite cosas tan interesantes como conducir con la máxima seguridad sobre superficie deslizante, derrapar con un control total de la conducción, o si somos capaces y nos atrevemos, pero sobre todo sabemos lo que hacemos, convertirnos en unos maestros del drifting. In this episode of the Carmudgeon show, Derek and Jason discuss fast cars. Or, more precisely, they complain about fast cars. Speed limits haven’t changed, so as cars get faster and faster, it just means we get to enjoy them less. Derek recently drove a Ferrari 488 Pista, the first Ferrari Jason thought was too fast. And yet Car and Driver Magazine just tested a BMW M8 that would crush the Pista in a drag race. The M8 Competition is a luxury barge that hits 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. Why would you want anything pleasurable to be over in two and a half seconds?The conversation meanders over to the Autobahn, which is where fast cars are their element — until they hit their nearly-universal speed limiters. Where’s the fun in that? At least the likelihood of being driven flat-out resulted in German cars’ technological superiority over most other cars. Like, say, American rental cars.
