This week's lead news story is the just-announced 2025 Ford Mustang GTD that Ford Motor Company says is the pinnacle of Mustang engineering. As we discuss in this week's episode, it's hard to argue that. The Mustang GTD delivers a mind-blowing 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a riveting top speed of 202 mph. The fastest street-legal Mustang ever boasts advanced features that include active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a sophisticated suspension system. One goal of the new Mustang standard-bearer is achieving a sub-seven-minute lap at Nürburgring. Powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, the GTD appears to have the goods to do just that. With the dry-sump oil system, its engine offers enhanced lubrication during high-speed cornering and revs up to 7,650 rpm. If that's not enough, the Mustang GTD also incorporates a specialized drag reduction system that enables it to adjust its aerodynamics to optimize speed and grip based on driving conditions — a pretty nice trick. Co-Host Chris Teague and Host Jack Nerad will react to the newest Ford sup0ercar in this episode. In our road tests this week, Chris Teague will evaluate another vehicle from an American brand, the 2025 Dodge Hornet. The Hornet is designed to help Dodge turn the page from its musclecar — and some would say muscle-bound — past. Its goal is to maintain the brand's performance image but putting it in a new context. Chris and Jack will discuss if it lives up to that billing. The Ford Ranger Lariat 4x4 with the FX4 package is the subject of our other road test this week. The newest Ranger marks Ford's renewed interest in the midsize truck segment here in North America, and it comes amidst a flurry of new midsize pickups from both domestic and import automakers. Jack and Chris will describe how they believe it stacks up. This week, our special guest is Brad Arnold, a top-ranking Hyundai designer in North America. At a recent event in central California, he and Host Jack Nerad sat down for a lengthy discussion of the heavily revised 2025 Hyundai Tucson and 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz. We're sure you'll enjoy our discussion. In the news this week, we'll be talking about something that seems too good to be true. Would you lease a brand-new EV if the monthly payment was $20? That's happening right now, and we'll tell you more about it coming up. In other news, Volvo is ditching its vehicle subscription plan after several years of lackluster interest from the public. We'll have more on that, and we'll talk about a Toyota Prius hypermiler who just set a Guiness World record for fuel economy in a drive from coast to coast. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Thanks for joining us. And please don't forget to look for our content on YouTube and Rumble. If you subscribe, it will help us bring you even more. Jill and Tom opened the show with a brief acknowledgement of Ford's plan to add 4-door and off-road “Baja” variants to the Mustang lineup. The hosts also discussed the trimmed-down model lineup and reduced prices of the 2025 Jeep Compass. Compass prices have been slashed by up to $2000 for '25. Also in the first segment, Jill reviewed the Honda Ridgeline TrailSport midsize pickup truck. Though the least-capable—in terms of payload and towing capacity—model in the segment, the Ridgeline shines in terms of room, comfort, and handing. Listen in for Jill's complete review. In the second segment the hosts welcome Stellantis Vice President of Advanced Colors and Material La Shirl Turner to the show. In a conversation primarily about car colors, La Shirl shared insights into how new colors are developed, and what her favorite current Stellantis colors are. (We will post examples on our Facebook page.)In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “One or Two” car-price quiz, and Jill talked about her recent travels with eBay motors.

Welcome to Episode 42! This week, Imran shares his thoughts on two hybrids he drove recently: the 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV, and the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid. One is far too expensive for its own good, and the other is arguably the sweet spot of the lineup. Care to guess which is which? Plus, Rush is soaking up the sun this week with the 2024 Jaguar F-Type P575 convertible. Cats really do have nine lives, because Jaguar keeps saying this'll be the "last" F-Type on the local press fleet, but we ain't complaining. A loud V8 and a roof that disappears at the touch of a button is always a recipe for a good time. As for Nathan ... oh yeah, he couldn't make it this week. So, Adi popped in to try and make sense of Nick's recent obsession with Lexus IS Fs. Is jumping from an E39 M5 to an IS F as a daily driver a downgrade? Enjoy the show? Following a logistical and technical complication last week, the Unnamed Automotive Podcast is back to deliver the freshest and bestest takes in the automotive media. Or so we believe! This week's episode starts us off on a journey of Easter candies, before we quickly change lanes to discuss the 2024 Chevrolet Trax, the kissing cousin (eww) of the Buick Envista. This attractively priced crossover has quite a lot going for it, and very little fanfare, so is Benjamin impressed with this newly designed small car? Is it better than the rest, or even a better buy than a compact sedan? Hear Benjamin's thorough take on this interesting crossover. Then the episode heads towards a different discussion, one where our hosts question value, audience and design as they talk about the 2024 Dodge Hornet PHEV R/T. With its gimmicky PowerShot feature, this electrified crossover can sprint from 0-60 in just over 5 seconds, but why? And how is that relevant to a pricey plug-in hatchback? Is this the new hot-hatch from the American automaker, or does it miss the mark entirely? Those are the burning questions of this weeks episode, but then the guys chat about some listener feedback and questions. Thanks for listening!

In this "For The People" episode, Nick welcomes The Consumerman Herb Weisbaum to the podcast to answer some listener questions, and talk about buying auto insurance, how to start an emergency savings fund, the controlling of credit card interest rates, and, we ask: whatever happened to customer service? Then our Car Guy, Tom Appel from Consumer Guide Automotive joins Nick to recap the 2024 Chicago Auto Show, and chat about the Dodge Hornet, the crazy ad for the 1974 Jeep CJ-5, Chinese carmakers sneaking into the US market, and how Tesla EV chargers are getting better. There is also another fun round of StarSpotter. It's all "For The People." [EP225]
On this week's podcast, Nicole drives the Dodge Hornet and gets a quick spin in the VW ID7 for judging the World Car Awards. She also eats way to many Girl Scout cookies.
Morning news and yep, Spectrum down again, what is going on? Wheels Up Wednesday with Eric Peters, the Cold and the EV stories, Dodge Hornet review listener questions answered.
Alfa Romeo might be best known for its Formula 1 presence, or its sporty convertibles that help stop weddings in major motion pictures. Unfortunately, the two-seat cabriolet isn't exactly helping major automakers keep their lights on. Steering into the meat of the market, the folks at Alfa Romeo launched a sub-compact crossover dubbed Tonale. The Tonale might not be as exciting as its larger Stelvio sibling, or the long list of sporty Alfas of yesteryear, but it does help spread the brand's awareness and give shoppers something different in a sea of crossovers. Powering the Tonale is exclusively a plug-in hybrid powertrain that blends a 1.3-liter I4 with a hybrid system to send 285 hp to the wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and puts it through its paces. Carone walks you around the Tonale and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Carone takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Carone chats with host Wesley Wren about the Tonale's similarities to the Dodge Hornet, Alfa's presence in the United States, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale special.

Building a custom vehicle is no easy task. It takes time, patience, the wherewithal to stick to a plan, money, possibly switching shops, more money, and finally, a lot more money. And while you may think we're overexaggerating, trust us, we're not. You see Hemmings is currently building a wicked little all-wheel drive sled in the form of a 2023 Dodge Hornet. Why a Hornet you ask? Well, we dig em', they're quick, and while in stock form they may seem a little pedestrian, we knew differently, which is why we dove in headfirst an decided to film an entire build series around it. (*Coming soon to the Hemmings YouTube Channel) On this episode of the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ Mike Musto sits down with Ryan Douthit to talk about the trials and tribulations on everything from design and performance modifications to old school metal fabrication and automotive customization.

After a week in one of the most enjoyable vehicles he's driven this year, Host Jack Nerad concluded that the 2023 Subaru WRX performance sedan might be the best performance bargain in the land right now. If it's not, it comes very close. The current WRX is based on a stiff chassis that contributes to its all-around handling. Its standard all-wheel-drive gives it a very connected feel, no matter the conditions. And its turbocharged engine provides enough go-power to keep things interesting. Whether he was shuttling his daughter to a Taylor Swift concert or blasting through canyon roads, Nerad discovered the WRX to be a willing and able companion. Yes, it does a few mildly annoying things, but with the amount of goodness it provides for less than $45K, we can live with them. In the other half of this week's road test segment, Co-host Chris Teague got to have his way with the all-new Dodge Hornet R/T+. The top-of-the-line Hornet, based on the Alfa Tonale, shows a definite European influence. You would, too, if you were born in Naples, Italy. One of the many things we learn in Chris's road test is how his manly 6-foot frame fits into its compact SUV cabin. Oh, and then there's handling and performance that put it at the pinnacle of the new Dodge Hornet lineup. In the news this week, a top BMW executive says the company is meeting its global targets for electric vehicles. But at the same time, he said it isn't yet time to abandon internal combustion engine cars. General Motors execs might be feeling the same way this week. GM is betting on EVs big time, but right now, it's having trouble building them, as one of its top managers admitted recently. We'll tell you why and what that means coming up. And the next time you see someone pulled over for speeding, the policeman writing the ticket might be driving a Tesla. We'll tell you about the move to Tesla police cars in this episode. Many of us would like to know what the highest quality vehicles in America are, and this week's special guest can tell us. Frank Hanley is senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power, and he's in charge of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study that measures vehicle quality. Are cars getting better or worse? He'll have surprising answers coming up. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, YourTestDriver.com, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

We discuss how the Hornet drives, including its power, design, and how it compares to the Alfa. We also consider how the Hornet stacks up against rivals like Ford Bronco Sport, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Kia Sportage, and Toyota RAV4 Prime. Also, we debate whether or not used car buyers should be concerned when purchasing a discontinued vehicle and if car parts will be available years down the road. Dodge's small-car history goes all the way back to the 1960s with the A-body-based Lancer, which was quickly replaced by the legendary Dart in 1963. Later down the line, Dodge's compact car portfolio gave us ‘80s icons like the Omni GLHS and the L-body-based Dodge Shelby Charger. There are also noteworthy products like Dodge's Neon that helped shape the ‘90s. Despite success through the ages, Dodge abandoned the compact car with the demise of its Dart in 2016. Though, Dodge is rentering the small-car field with its compact crossover Hornet. Sharing its platform with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, the Hornet is adding a new entry point for Dodge shoppers, and expanding Dodge's reach as a company. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of the 2023 Dodge Hornet GT and takes you along for the ride. Carone takes you on a guided tour of the Dodge Hornet and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Carone takes you on a live drive review of the '23 Dodge Hornet. In between, Carone chats with host Wesley Wren about the Hornet. The pair talk about Dodge's history with compact cars, the Hornet name, and the car's relation to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Closing the show, the pair breakdown what makes the Hornet special.

Motor1.com Editor-in-Chief Seyth Miersma and Senior Editor Jeff Perez are on this week's Motor1.com Test Car Happy Hour. They are discussing the Dodge Hornet, GMC Sierra Denali 2500,, Haoqi Cheetah electric bicycle, Toyota Highlander, and Audi S6.
Plus, we spend your money and chat about some V8-powered SUVs
The Nissan Frontier started what promises to be a parade of all-new midsize pickup trucks over the course of the next year. General Motors has already started to sell its brand-new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Soon Ford will follow suit with its completely new 2024 Ford Ranger that we detailed for you last week. And Toyota has revealed its 2024 Toyota Tacoma, the completely revamped version of the sales leader in the segment. So how does the 2023 Nissan Frontier stack up in this flurry of activity on the midsize truck front? To find out, Co-Host Chris Teague put the Frontier through a series of grueling and practical tests in his home base of Maine. And he discovered that the V6-powered Frontier is not only a good choice among the current competitors but will also hold its own against the newcomers as they arrive in showrooms over the next several months. He'll share the details in this episode. While Chris Teague was wringing out the Nissan pickup, Host Jack Nerad took on a different challenge. He and his family used the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid as their vehicle of choice to move his youngest daughter out of her college apartment. The trek involved about 500 miles of driving on freeways, rural roads, and city streets. Was the minivan able to swallow up all the accumulated possessions of a fourth-year college student? We'll have the answer for you coming up. Were you thinking of buying a low-priced Chevy Silverado battery-electric pickup when they come to market next year? Well, you might want to think again. There's a lot going on in EV Truckland these days, and we'll give you the details. Also in the news, two big names in performance cars are teaming up for what should a very exciting collaboration. We'll tell you what brands we're talking about and what their plans are coming up. And in the True Crime Files Automotive Edition, the highest German federal court has ruled that the companies responsible for Dieselgate owe their customers compensation. It could cost them tens of millions of dollars. We'll tell you more later in this episode. Our special guest this week is Brad Gieske, chief UX designer at Dodge. Infotainment is something we talk about a lot of the show because it is so important to so many of us. So we'll chat with Brad about the latest trends in vehicle entertainment and information. And we'll take a special look at the UX in the all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet. Many critics might tell you the 2023 Nissan Leaf is well past its prime and a purveyor of old tech. But after a week in the Leaf, Host Jack Nerad came to a different conclusion. It might be one of the best electric car values on the market right now. In its upscale SV form the Leaf offers 212 miles of range and a 214-horsepower 160-kW electric motor. While these aren't stunning numbers, they must be viewed in the context of the suggested retail price. At $37,750, including the $1,095 destination charge, the Leaf SV is one of the least expensive vehicles on the market offering more than 200 miles of range. Meanwhile, the entry-level Leaf S offers about 150 miles of range at a suggested price of less than $30,000. These are just hints as to why Jack Nerad thinks the Leaf is one of the biggest EV bargains on the market. And his week road testing the perky hatchback just solidified that opinion. At the same time Nerad was testing the Leaf, Co-Host Chris Teague was evaluating the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, a vehicle that might be the unofficial Crossover Utility of New England. Could the Crosstrek stand up to the rigors of late spring in Maine…and to the rigors of the Teague's 80-pound dog? We'll tell you in this episode. Our special guest this week is interesting guest Brian Nielander, chief exterior designer of the 2023 Dodge Hornet. Host Jack Nerad recently had a chance to talk with him about the first all-new Dodge vehicle in more than a decade, and we'll share that discussion with you. In the news this week, we have to ask the question is there a flying car in your future? That longtime dream might be closer to becoming a reality than you might think. We'll tell you who has made a startling announcement about this effort and the exciting details later in this segment. Also in the news, a well-reviewed electric vehicle is now the subject of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. Several drivers of the vehicles report hearing a popping noise and then the car suddenly loses power. We'll have details on that critical safety issue. And in the True Crime Files Automotive Edition, fugitive Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has sued the company for more than $1 billion in a lawsuit filed to Lebanon's public prosecutor last month, according to a copy of the lawsuit seen by Reuters. As longtime listeners know Ghosn is currently living exile in Lebanon after have escaped from Japan where he was facing prison time. In this "For The People" episode, Nick talks with The Consumerman Herb Weisbaum, from Checkbook.org, about important consumer stories including: keeping up with your home insurance, the violation of child privacy laws by Amazon, the creeping dangers of A.I. scams, and the fact that Americans are keeping their cars longer than ever. Then, Tom Appel from Consumer Guide Automotive, joins Nick to review the new Dodge Hornet, and discuss the driver-less car takeover in San Francisco, the great ads for "Dad Cars" from the past, the lost problem of overheating cars, and, of course, spotting stars on old Western TV shows. Plus, we remember Barry Newman, the star of "Vanishing Point," a CLASSIC car film from the 70's. And, it all closes with Nick's Dad Tells a Joke. [EP147]
Jill and Tom opened the show discussing home remedies their parents and grand parents believed in. The hosts agreed that saltines and 7-Up were understood to cure almost anything. Tom noted that his dad was a firm believer in the curative power of Jägermeister. (Jill is under the weather, hence the remedy chat.) The discussion finally turned automotive, and Jill shared her thoughts on the heavily updated Honda Accord, with which she is very impressed. The new Accord features a trimmed down lineup, but more hybrid models. Jill and Tom also discussed the new Dodge Hornet compact crossover, which Jill seems to like a little more than Tom, though both agree the newest Dodge is fun to drive. In the second segment Jill and Tom welcome Brant Combs, Ram head of marketing, to the podcast. Brant discussed the Ram Revolution electric pickup-truck concept, which was first seen at CES in January, and the production RAM REV electric pickup. Brant talked about the RAM REV's role in the expanding EV market place, and hinted at exciting powertrain news to come. Jill was subjected to Tom's “1995 or 2000” quiz, after which Jill finally shared her impressions of the all-new, three-row, Toyota Grand Highlander midsize crossover.
Car buyers are now being confronted with an interesting — and hard-to-answer — question: do I spend my money on an all-new battery-electric or do I spend it on a larger, more accommodating conventionally powered vehicle? This week's two road test vehicles present just that conundrum. Co-host Chris Teague was at the wheel of the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5, one of the newest-generation of battery-electric-powered crossovers. Host Jack Nerad spent the same week piloting the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The Ioniq 5 is a five-passenger vehicle with an extra-long wheelbase and an ultra-modern interior. The Highlander Hybrid will accommodate as many as eight in three rows of seating and offers 36 mpg fuel economy. With their as-tested equipment and trim levels, both had suggested retail prices of about $50,000. So how would you spend your hard-earned cash? Are you ready to make the sacrifices in size and convenience that the battery-electric Ioniq 5 (and other BEVs) entail? Or do you feel the comfort, versatility, and freedom from range anxiety on long trips make the Highlander Hybrid a better choice for your family? We'll discuss both vehicles and their ramifications in this episode. AOTR's special guest this week is Matt McAlear, Head of Dodge Brand Sales Operations. Host Jack Nerad had the chance to sit down with him at a recent driving event in North Carolina to talk about the newly introduced Dodge Hornet and the general direction of the Dodge brand. The Hornet marks the change of an era at Dodge, and McAlear will explain where the brand goes next. The CEOs of two global car companies, Toyota CEO Koji Sato and Ford CEO Jim Farley, have just gone on record saying their companies must change their ways — and soon — to continue to compete against what appears to be a surging group of Chinese carmakers who are building very compelling EVs. We'll tell you what prompted their remark and what they intend to do about it. Also in the news, General Motors confirmed this week it will end production of the Chevrolet Bolt, its biggest-selling EV, later this year. GM is gung-ho about electric vehicles, but the Bolt doesn't use its heavily touted Ultium platform. It's likely the next Chevy Bolt will. All that and answers to your listener questions in this episode of America on the Road.
On this episode of the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ podcast, we talk about the new Dodge Demon 170, the 1,025-horsepower mastodon of a muscle car that marks the end of the ‘Last Call' models from Dodge. Mike Musto was at the Last Call event that was held live at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and as usual, Dodge put on quite a show. Musto then jumps into his recent test drive in the new Dodge Hornet GT compact CUV, and we also welcome back Ryan Douthit of Driving Sports TV, who recently launch Riding Sports TV, a new YouTube channel that concentrates on eBikes and eScooters. Ryan recently test road a couple of two-wheel models in the form of the 2023 Ariel Grizzly and the Ubco all-wheel drive work bike, and to say we're intrigued would be putting it lightly.
On this week's show, Mike and Jeremy chat with Tim Healey, Managing Editor of "The Truth About Cars.com" Tim scooped the new Dodge Hornet and the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. Mike reviews the Lexus NX350h, and he and Jeremy answer several new and classic car questions emailed in by listeners. Check it out!
"For the People," join Nick and The Consumerman, Herb Weisbaum from Checkbook.org, for a lively chat about the sneaky 'check washing' scam making a comeback, and how airlines are finally getting on board with kid-friendly seats. They'll also dish out seven nifty tips to help you level up your consumer game. While they're at it, they reminisce about the legendary Katz's Deli in NYC, home to that unforgettable "When Harry Met Sally" moment. Later, Tom Appel from Consumer Guide Automotive rolls in to chat about the quirky 1958 Edsel ad campaign, the buzz-worthy 2024 Dodge Hornet, Honda's sweet extended warranty deal, and the downright bizarre Plymouth Voyager III—a double dose of automotive disappointment. Plus, you won't want to miss the hilarity of Nick's Dad Tells a Joke! [EP129]

230401 - Dodge Hornet by Derrière le Volant
The 2023 Dodge Hornet is the newest addition to the giant compact sport-utility segment. And it brings along the Dodge brand muscularity, an image that is entirely lacking in that starkly conventional segment. The Hornet also marks a major departure for the Dodge brand, which like all Stellantis brands, has an uncertain future as the parent company considers consolidation. But if the Hornet points the way for Dodge, the brand should have a bright future. The two variants — the plug-in hybrid 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T and the turbocharged 2023 Dodge Hornet GT — are shining proof that crossovers don't have to be mundane. Host Jack Nerad had the rare chance to drive both Hornet models at a recent event in and around Asheville, North Carolina, and he'll have a full report. With enticing doses of horsepower and a “Powershot” feature that releases 30 extra horsepower for occasional use, the Italian-built Dodge Hornet will certainly raise some eyebrows … and may raise Cain. The subject of our other road test is equally interesting but for far different reasons. The 2023 Toyota Crown supplants the long-in-the-tooth Toyota Avalon as the brand's full-size sedan. And while the Crown channels Buick sedans in some important ways, it also brings a distinct Toyota spin to a segment that is in need of as much spin as it can get. Guest Host Matt DeLorenzo tested the Toyota Crown and will share his impressions in this episode. This week's special guest is Greg Kitzens, General Manager of Product and Consumer Marketing for Lexus. He joined Host Jack Nerad to discuss the all-new 2023 Lexus RZ 450E, the brand's first battery-electric vehicle. And he had interesting thoughts on how the Japanese luxury brand can compete with the Tesla Motors juggernaut. In the news, the European Union has just announced a plan that would allow the use of so-called e-fuels in combustion engines after 2035, its previous deadline to go all-electric. This could be a giant game-changer in the auto industry, and we'll have our thoughts coming up. Also in the news this week, a just-published article by Reuters says that many electric vehicles offer no way to repair even slightly damaged battery packs after accidents. This forces insurance companies to write off cars with few miles, which could lead to mammoth insurance rate hikes. We'll let you know which automaker is most responsible for this problem coming up a little later. All this and much more are coming up in this episode of America on the Road on the SportsMap Radio Network.
