On the thirty- second episode of ATFT, I talk with actor/ director/ producer/ writer Brandon Gibson! Brandon Gibson, who is Los Angeles- based, has taken on many roles in a variety of mediums across over two decades working in show business. Brandon started his career in the industry as a stand up comedian, earning a stand up special on NBC at only 16 years old. He then ventured into acting in films, television shows (including Black-ish, Cobra Kai, and Lessons in Chemistry), and over 70 national commercials, for companies such as Wal- Mart, Airbnb, and Geico. Brandon also has his own production company, FunnyBrand777 Productions, and an acting studio called Above the Line studio. Check out Brandon's demo reels as well as more information on both his production company and acting studio here!: https://brandon-gibson.com Brandon's latest project is the highly- anticipated drama television series, Spilled Paint! For this project, Brandon starred in, directed, and wrote the series. Spilled Paint, which is inspired by true events, follows Brandon's character Ramirez Ponce is an underground art dealer who forces artists to paint fake paintings so he sell them to earn a major profit before murdering them. His plan goes awry when an artist suspected to have been dead surprisingly returns. The series was produced by Beth Wheatley and also stars Justine Renee, Bronsonn Taylor, and Stephanie De Lander. Previous ATFT guests, Graham Zielinski and Taylor Donaldson, also worked on this show! Spilled Paint is expected to release this Winter on Tubi! This is Brandon's first appearance on ATFT! We met on the set of his upcoming series Spilled Paint last year! As I mentioned, he wore many hats on the production while I was a production assistant. Brandon was so kind and despite how busy a set can be, he took the time to get to know me and my friend Taylor Donaldson, fellow PA and past ATFT guest. This was my first job on a set and I was stunned by how he made challenging roles on a set seem so effortless. To this day, Brandon remains the best director I've had the pleasure to work with and I hope we will work together again in the future! I was so grateful for his along with the rest of the crew's kindness. When I asked him if he'd come on the show, he was immediately in. Spilled Paint's release has shifted throughout the year so we recorded this episode towards the beginning of the year, March 8, 2024 to be exact! This was my third interview and I was very nervous. It had been several months since my last interview and I just didn't ask as many good questions as I should have. Hopefully there will be a part two in the future! Television fans will be pleased because we probably talk about as many television shows as we do films in this interview! In this episode, Brandon shares stories throughout his career from being an established stand up comedian as a teenager to his soon- to- be- released television series Spilled Paint. This episode has more star- studded stories than any previous ATFT episode yet as Brandon talks about fulfilling his life- long dream of working with Robin Williams, Ethan Coen watching his audition tape for Hail, Caesar! (2016) , and playing a competitive game of Boggle with Brie Larson. Brandon also talks about how his analysis of teleplays helped learn the craft of certain forms of comedy, his admiration of the Coen brothers, and his SNL audition. All this and much more on the latest episode of All the Film Things! Background music created and used with permission by the Copyright Free Music - Background Music for Videos channel on YouTube.

Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera. As predicted on a previous episode, they enjoy a cider in their Frank & Friends Show pint glasses. Frank's picture is on page 66 of the April issue of VIP Knoxville magazine as part of its coverage of the Amadeus Chamber Ensemble's program of “French Opera Jewels.” Frank and Heather Waliga were photographed for the next issue of the magazine on Saturday as they emceed “Casino Royale” to benefit InterFaith Health Center. Kathryn was photographed during a luncheon at Ossoli Circle. Kathryn and her husband James and Frank and his wife Jere attended the dedication concert for the new pipe organ at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. One of the electromagnetic relays didn't work properly and caused an unexpected intermission in the concert. Frank and Jere visited Frank Jr. in Michigan and then drove to Sandusky, Ohio to view the total eclipse of the sun. Frank's daughter Meaghan and her sons also traveled to Sandusky. Jere and Frank Jr. found a perfect spot to view the eclipse in a park that had no crowds and a new pavilion with clean bathrooms. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the motel where they stayed. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. Contact BoneZones to hire Frank to give a presentation about Dr. Bass and the Body Farm. Frank specifically wore a peach-colored shirt to see if Kathryn recognized it. He also wore it while recording a video interview with the cast of Marble City Opera's production of Suor Angelica in 2019. Brandon Gibson, who was Marble City Opera's managing director, was wearing the same shirt. Two years earlier, Brandon first introduced Frank to Kathryn and to Marble City Opera. Brandon passed away unexpectedly in 2022. Kathryn recently began the process of hiring Brandon's replacement. Frank expressed an interest in the job, applied, and was hired. His first day was April 1 but Kathryn delayed the announcement until April 2 so no one would think it was an April Fool's joke. Marble City Opera will present the world premiere of The Doctor and the Devils on June 6 and 8, 2024 at the Old City Performing Arts Center. Marble City Opera's production of il Tabarro will take place in site-specific locations at the Port of Tellico on June 22, 2024 and in Melton Lake Park on June 23, 2024. Brandon GibsonWe were moved by Brandon's story in episode 53, where he shared his unique challenge of competing in a 70.3 Ironman distance despite missing most of his intestines. We are honored to have him join our "A Triathlete's Journey" series, where he aims to complete three 70.3 Ironman races in 2024. His approach and mindset of leaning into challenges are truly inspiring, and we can't wait to see him succeed. NO EXCUSES.Lining up to compete in a 70.3 Ironman triathlon is hard enough. Now imagine that with the added stress of not having most of your intestines. Brandon was dealt a blow during his college days of severe ulcerative colitis that resulted in an ileostomy and a health struggle he has been dealing with for 20 years and over 26 surgeries. Trying to live a normal, healthy life with complications of an ostomy bag, Brandon was at the point where he just didn't want to live. Having made it through that dark time, he started running. That reignited his natural competitive tendencies to compete where it landed him at the start line of Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga this year. A harrowing journey that ends in a story not to be missed. Frank Murphy is joined by Teresa Brittain, executive director of Friends of Literacy. Frank will emcee the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 24, 2023. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of Literacy. Buy tickets to the awards gala at https://www.etwriters.org/awards-gala.html Teresa also makes glass beads and teaches bead-making classes each Fall at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. The Writers Hall of Fame ceremony used to be a luncheon. Some of the adults who learned to read at Friends of Literacy would read their essays aloud. There is now a separate event to honor the students. The Writers Hall of Fame gala is now an evening event with readings and performances by past inductees. This year's gala will feature music performances by Scott Miller and R. B. Morris and readings by writers Alan Gratz, Linda Parsons, and Michael Knight. This year's inductees are Catherine Landis, Betsy Pickle, Donna Doyle, Steve Wildsmith, Todd Steed, Charlie Daniel, Robert Cumming, and Ashlee Latimer. The posthumous inductees are the Everly Brothers, Brandon Gibson, Duncan Mansfield, Vic Weals, and L.E. White. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including the new long-sleeve Body Farm t-shirt. Frank compliments Teresa for the well-written script at the Writers Hall of Fame gala. He says that anyone could read the script but he's really there to smooth over any unexpected hiccups. Frank recalls a time he was told to “stick to the script” at a teen talent show but he had to ignore the instructions and improvise when something went wrong. Friends of Literacy has expanded its mission to serve children as well as adults. They provide tutoring in reading, provide books to children, and teach parents to become reading coaches for their kids. There are many children who don't know how to hold or use a book. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady, who had the idea for Frank to donate a See More Smokies adventure to the auction at Marble City Opera's recent fundraiser. Frank has been sending press releases to many newspapers in the area to promote Tennessee Scholars' Bowl. He also quizzed Tala Shatara and Veronica Ogbe on Living East Tennessee. Kathryn was surprised that Frank cut his biggest fig trees to about knee-high. He anticipates that they will grow back vigorously in the Spring. Frank called himself the “figgest loser” after attending an event for fig growers. On the registration form, he described himself as “intermediate” but later realized he should have chosen “beginner.” Frank's friend Bean doesn't like it when Frank talks about figs. Frank thinks that Bean should include the song “Them Figs” by The Subdudes on the podcast A Cup of Tea and a Chat with Allie and Bean. Here's a link to the song: https://youtu.be/Ydf4OqIrFJg and here's a live version: https://youtu.be/4jA2Vz4eOnM Frank brought some of his Brown Turkey figs to exchange at the event. He and his wife picked a Negronne plant and a LSU Scott's Black plant. The guest speakers were very critical of Brown Turkey figs, suggesting that the trees were only good as rootstock for grafting. Nobody picked Frank's Brown Turkey plants in the exchange. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Kathryn's dog Sasha got a lot of Christmas presents. One of Frank's sisters got a second dog. His other sister has an older dog that needed to go to the vet. Frank started to say “how” but cut himself off mid-syllable. His sister knew that Frank almost asked, “how old is he?” Frank and his wife have had their iPhones for over five years. The batteries don't hold a charge. Every time he starts the car, his iPhone plays a song from Apple Music, usually “The Knife” from the Psycho soundtrack. He figured out that he can say “Hey Siri, stop!” to stop the music. When Frank upgraded the IOS software, his Irish female Siri voice morphed into a horrible robotic voice. He looked for solutions on YouTube and found a way to restore Irish female Siri. Frank also likes videos from Payette Forward that tell which iPhone settings you should turn off. Kathryn is planning to go to New York to audition for some operatic roles. She dyed her hair to a #2, which is the second-darkest color. Kathryn was very blond when Frank met her about five and a half years ago. Kathryn and her husband had Thanksgiving dinner with Frank and Jere. When Jere was preparing the dressing, she was surprised that Frank had eaten the celery she was planning to use. Kathryn's father had his first Christmas since retiring from being a pastor. Jere sang at a 4pm and 10pm Mass on Christmas Eve and then went to Midnight Mass with Frank. Sign up for a 30-day trial of Audible Premium Plus and get a free premium selection that's yours to keep. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady. He recently recorded some See More Smokies episodes with fashion model Victoria Henley. Frank and Kathryn saw each other at Brandon Gibson's funeral. Kathryn and her husband James spent Thanksgiving with Frank and his wife Jere. Kathryn produced Amahl and the Night Visitors at Opéra Louisiane. They will do a different Christmas opera next year. Frank saw a picture from 2013 of Kathryn in Marble City Opera's production of The Gift of the Magi. Frank will emcee Marble City Opera's fundraiser on Saturday at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum. Kathryn will sing during the event as will ten other opera singers who have performed with Marble City Opera over the last ten years. Tickets are available at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets Kathryn will sing in a production of Cabildo in Iowa. The opera was written by Amy Beach in 1932. Kathryn will play a ghost. The Cabildo is an actual building in New Orleans that was once a prison. Frank says he did an opera-based scene in Tuesday's Einstein Simplified improv show. Kathryn gave her niece a backstage tour during Amahl and the Night Visitors at Opéra Louisiane. Frank likes the backstage area at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. Frank bought a discounted ticket to the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra's Clayton Holiday Concert. During the show, Frank got a text and a call from his home-alarm monitoring company. The motion detector had triggered the alarm. Frank's next door neighbor was also notified because he is listed as Frank's emergency contact. Frank contacted four more of his neighbors to ask them to look around while the police were on the way. Frank thinks the heating system might have caused the curtains to billow under the motion detector. Kathryn wonders if it could have been triggered by a mouse. Frank plays a lot of David Bowie songs on LakeFM, which reminds him that the audio podcast feed of the Frank & Friends Show is now available in LakeFM's mobile app. https://www.lakefm.com/how-to-listen/ Jere sings with the Knoxville Choral Society. Frank attended their Fall concert at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Frank sat next to a man in his ‘80s who was visiting Knoxville. The man's sister is also in the Knoxville Choral Society. In a matter of minutes, the older man tells Frank that he works as a jazz pianist at bars and restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. The man says that he composed the song “Spooky” which Frank knew as a song by Classics IV. The man's name is Harry Middlebrooks. He told Frank that he had appeared on The Lawrence Welk Show. Frank relates that he once met a singer named Ava Barber who used to be on the Welk show. Harry says, “I'd love to talk to Ava! Frank Murphy is joined by Becca James, who is interested in going on a See More Smokies adventure. Frank says he used muscle memory to put on his bronzer. Frank is starting his press tour for Tennessee Scholars' Bowl. Frank's wife Jere made a batch of cracker candy. She pours melted sugar and butter over a tray of crackers and then places chocolate chips on top. The hot tray goes in the freezer until the candy is solid. Jere was worried that Frank would be startled when she dropped the cookie sheet on the floor to break the candy into pieces. Becca made some peppermint bark but failed to use parchment paper. Her twin boys helped spread crushed candy canes over the melted chocolate. She usually makes Pizzelle cookies for Christmas. Jere makes chocolate chip cookies at Christmas time. Frank asks if all cookies are Christmas cookies. Gingerbread cookies are his favorite. Frank's daughter sent him a video of her kids destroying a gingerbread house with a mallet followed by another video of them peacefully eating the gingerbread. Ratchet's Tribute to Brandon Gibson, a good friend and an amazing person. Originally aired on Saturday November 26th, 2022 from 8 to 9m pm on WOZO-LP 103.9 FM in Knoxville, TN and streamed online at wozoradio.com. R.est In Power my friend.
So, Dana White lied right to our faces and it turned out the reason no fans or media could attend Saturday's UFC Fight Night event WAS because Mark Zuckerberg wanted to be there, after all. And even if Dana White tries to claim later that he didn't lie due to some semantic bullshit, we all know the truth now. Zuck just had to be there to watch Mackenzie Dern ... who unfortunately lost a majority decision to Yan Xiaonan and then felt the need to apologize if she "made anybody sad" with her performance. So, fuck, was that some super disheartening late-stage capitalism stuff? Yes, it was. Also, though, Bellator turned in a pretty fun event that included Brandon Gibson desperately trying to get Aaron Pico's arm to snap back into its socket between rounds, so at least there was some good stuff to be had. Frank Murphy and Kathryn Frady are joined for a few minutes by Frank's eldest grandson, Artie Rocket. Last summer, Artie appeared on several See More Smokies episodes of the Frank & Friends Show. Artie remembers being scared by a Bigfoot statue in Pigeon Forge. Artie wants to show the scapular he received as a First Communion gift. Frank had a close call on the wooden deck in his backyard. When he stepped down from one level to the next, his foot broke through a board. Fortunately as he fell, he landed in a sitting position with his leg through the board. Kathryn's parents have algae in their pool. Frank has been fighting algae with extra chlorine. Last year he tried algaecide but didn't like the suds created by the chemical. Frank switched to liquid chlorine when the price of chlorine tablets skyrocketed. He likes to open the jug underwater so it doesn't splash on his clothes. When Frank was a kid, he and other kids had to step into a dishpan of liquid chlorine before getting into the kiddie pool at the club. The chemical killed athlete's foot fungus. Kathryn says it seems like every time she calls her coworker Brandon Gibson, he is washing the dishes. Kathryn suggests listening to podcasts while doing the dishes. Frank was moved to the afternoon shift on 104.9 Lake FM. He is now on from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Listen online at https://www.lakefm.com/ Frank's mother was in labor for 30 hours on the longest day of the year before giving birth to him. He likes to joke that Judy Garland ruined his birthday by dying. Frank bought dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, pool floats, and other treats for the kids at ALDI. As he approached the checkout line, the customer ahead of him asked, “Are you on PBS?” As Frank conversed with the customer, the ALDI cashier left her register to walk around and unload Frank's cart and ring up his purchases. Later that day, Frank was buying produce at Kroger. A produce clerk asked if Frank was still on the radio and still doing improv on stage. Another customer overheard the conversation and approached Frank. The customer said that he's been told he has a great voice and should be on the radio. Frank agreed and offered to help him contact the local radio stations. Kathryn is headed out of town to work at Opéra Louisiane and at Coastal Carolina University. She will be back for an August 3 screening of Marble City Opera's production of Tosca at Central Cinema. The video is hosted by Frank and Kathryn. They introduce each act and give a synopsis of the plot. This episode is sponsored by Audible Premium Plus. Sign up for a 30-day trial and get a free premium selection that's yours to keep. Brandon Gibson, Governor Bill Lee's Chief Operating Officer, addressed the Tennessee Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Conference. The post Farm Bureau Women Growing Opportunities appeared first on Tennessee Farm Bureau.
Kathryn asks Frank about his wife Jere's birthday party. Jere's sisters organized a family party in Northern Virginia. Kathryn has a group of people with whom she communicates frequently. If one of those people doesn't respond in their “normal” response time, she worries about them. Recently, she didn't hear from her colleague Brandon Gibson in his normal response time. When she noticed he hadn't posted anything on social media either, she worried about him and contacted a mutual friend to ask if she had heard from Brandon. Frank compliments Kathryn for saving her topic for the show and not telling him about it when they were at the Ice Bears game. Kathryn sang the National Anthem while wearing flag-themed stilettos. Kathryn had to use the announcer's microphone instead of having her own. Frank and Jere helped sell rubber pucks at the hockey game for a Chuck-a-Puck promotion to raise money for Marble City Opera. Fans could buy 6 pucks for $5 and write their names on the pucks, which they throw on the ice during the second intermission. Several fans took the pens to their seats and forgot to return them. Frank was tired and under-caffeinated at the game but tried not to show it. He saved his venting for today's episode. Frank now has two peach plants growing from the pits he planted in a bucket last fall. Some of the fig cuttings he planted in February have started to sprout leaves and figlets. He wondered if he should remove the figlets to force more energy to the roots but decided to leave them alone and see what happens. Frank is thinking about trying to propagate dogwood trees from cuttings. He found a YouTube video about it from a woman named Meagan who also had a video of a box turtle laying eggs at Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/-vY1o67ZPCs The neighbor behind Frank's house said he didn't want the leaves from Frank's yard leaning on his fence. Frank is going to have the lawn mowing crew try to remove as many leaves as they can. This episode is sponsored by Steve's Tree Service. Brandon J. Gibson never sounded like the other kids in class. His unique singing voice is what led him to opera, and he hasn't looked back. Gibson discusses his singing roots and how branching out into other art forms has enabled him to reach goals without ever leaving Knoxville.
Life, career, and leadership do not happen instantly, they all take development. Much like the film from a camera, your life takes time to develop. Delayed gratification has been lost in this generation but we talked with Brandon about how to see the big picture. Brandon Gibson was named Chief Operating Officer for the State of Tennessee in May 2020. Gibson previously served as Senior Advisor to Governor Lee, working primarily on rural and criminal justice initiatives. Prior to joining Governor Lee’s administration, Gibson served on the Tennessee Court of Appeals for over four years after being appointed to the court by Governor Bill Haslam.
Brandon is a retired NFL wide receiver. After being drafted in the 6th round by the Eagles, he played for the Rams, Dolphins, and Patriots. Before the NFL, he was a 4 year starter at Washington State University, where he also played for the basketball team. Now retired, he is the offensive coordinator at Kentwood High School in Washington, where he is from. Brandon and I talk about our coaching beliefs and philosophies, Brandon's time at WSU where he was a two sport athlete, as well as his time in the NFL and what it takes to thrive and stay in the league. We then get a little more philosophical and talk about the things and people that drive and motivate us, what we like to do off the field and just our views on life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/livingforaliving/message
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - waited until the last moment before putting together their pregame podcast. You’d think this was simply some shrewd scheduling on their part, but it was more serendipitous than anything. We had decided to wait until the last moment to record, and literally, 10 minutes before the start, the high sign came down from Montlake; the game is on. It means a happy ending to a week that was even more topsy-turvy than normal, and that’s saying something in 2020. It means a football game will be played between the Stanford Cardinal and Washington Huskies at Husky Stadium this afternoon, and that’s all that matters. In the first half of the podcast, the three break down the Cardinal and the matchups they see as key to the outcome of the game. Stanford and UW both want the ball; they want to possess it and keep it away from the other team. That’s their modus operandi. But they do it in different ways. Stanford has a handful of big receivers they’ll lean on, while Washington has their stable of running backs they’ll employ behind a massive offensive line. And then there’s the matchup of two quarterbacks at extremes: senior Davis Mills for Stanford and redshirt freshman Dylan Morris for Washington. After a quick break, Scott breaks down a QB and WR camp he recently went to, headed up by local QB guru Lavelle Durant and former WSU WR star Brandon Gibson. 2021 QB commit Sam Huard was there, as was 5-star athlete Emeka Egbuka.
