She was also recognized as a Top 20 Diversity Leading Figure in Quebec, Top 75 Canadian Immigrant, Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada, and Top 100 Entrepreneurs changing the world. Caroline is a Forbes Business Council member.Caroline's word: Unwavering self-beliefShe was for me, an example of a woman who was putting herself out there intentionally and as I found out later, the fact that she were putting herself out there in the service of such an important cause made her an even more compelling role model. Now there is something really different about the way she took charge of that cause: parity in corporate spheres of power, namely boards. With her organization, she build artifacts that would support and then legitimize organizations that were meeting the standards of parity. The certification her organization gives made it and her absolutely unmistakable in that space. Her commitment to fighting injustice, which you will hear very early in our interview, took a life of its own by creating a powerhouse organization and throwing her full genius for putting herself out there behind that commitment. She is a study in what is possible when a woman has an unflinching belief in her capacity.3:45 - Caroline speaks about her childhood, the impact of the Lebanese Civil war on her and her family, and how it shaped the woman she became8:35 - The lessons learned from moving to Paris at a young age, trying to survive by leveraging her communications and networking skills13:38 - I ask about where her self-belief comes from, and she explains the role her family played in it18:50 - Her thoughts on how women can be less tough on themselves, and how to keep persevering in the face of hard times24:42 - How Caroline has flipped the script with Women in Governance, and ‘names and fames' organizations that are making progress when it comes to Gender Equity29:00 - Caroline's three key takeaways: be authentic with your message, be visible, be generousYou can find Caroline on LinkedIn, Instagram, and TwitterHer work: Women in GovernanceIf you loved this episode, please rate and review on iTunes! If you want support with your visibility head to www.thebeauvoirgroup.com or book a chat with me here I love to hear from you! Former Toronto City Councillor and NDP MP, and current Executive Director of the Institute for Change Leaders, Olivia Chow joins us to discuss. About Olivia Chow For over thirty years, Olivia Chow has been an effective and well-known public figure, serving in Toronto's municipal politics and on the national stage as a Canadian Member of Parliament. She was voted Best City Councillor seven times by readers of NOW magazine and Best MP in 2010. Her work focuses on community engagement and leadership development. As a founder of the Institute for Change Leaders, Olivia and her team of 30+ trainers have taught community and political organizing to thousands of organizers since March of 2015.  Olivia's career has been all about creating lasting change. Olivia was born in Hong Kong and moved to Toronto with her parents when she was thirteen. She studied Philosophy and Fine Art at university and has worked as a college professor, an ESL teacher, a counsellor for new immigrants, and a sculptor. She became an activist as a young woman, fighting for the rights of refugees and immigrants. For over 20 years, she was at the forefront of the ultimately successful campaign to achieve a national apology and redress for the discriminatory “Chinese Head Tax”. Olivia won her first election in 1985 and served on the Toronto Board of Education for six years. In 1991, Olivia became the first Asian-born woman elected as a Metro Toronto Councillor. She was re-elected to the city council five times, serving with distinction for 14 years. While at City Hall, she served as Chair of the Community Services Committee and Vice-Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), among other senior responsibilities. Throughout her career, Olivia has been at the forefront, working for progress for all. She has reached across party lines and travelled across the country, forging alliances with municipal and provincial leaders, business and advocacy groups. Olivia married Jack Layton in 1988, and together they forged one of Canada's most remarkable political partnerships, sharing a passion for life and a commitment to change. Jack became the leader of the New Democratic Party and Canada's Leader of the Opposition in Parliament before he died of cancer in 2011. Since his passing, Olivia has continued the quest to make Toronto a better city and Canada a better country for all.  https://twitter.com/oliviachow (Follow Olivia Chow on Twitter) About the Institute for Change Leaders The Institute advances education by developing and delivering courses to the public that teach participants the tools, principles, ethics and values of participatory democracy in order to acquire knowledge and skills to be involved, and leaders, in democratic processes. Founded in 2016 by Olivia Chow, the Institute for Change Leaders (ICL) teaches the skills that organizers need to win social change. ICL believes students learn best when they practice what they learn, and are constantly engaged in small group learning. They deliver a full curriculum in regular sessions online and at X University, and work with organizations to deliver tailored trainings in their workplaces. ICL's mission is to ensure organizers are continually developing the skills they need to transform the resources they have into the change they want. It's October! and Thanksgiving Is celebrated this month. Although Thanksgiving is something not celebrated in the country I came from, through the years, we learned to celebrate it. Every year, as Thanksgiving Day approaches, I find myself reflecting on the things I am thankful for as a Canadian immigrant family. And here are the 7 things that always come to mind… Spoiler Alert! This might not be much to other people but we have learned not to compare ourselves. It's not easy of course. But, we're happier every time we choose not to look at what others have. As they say, gratitude turns what you have into enough. A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles. Listen to the full episode to know what the 7 things a Canadian Immigrant Family will be thankful for in Canada. Let me know in the comments if you're thankful for them too! --------------------------------------------------------------- For stories with pictures, follow my Facebook and Instagram page at https://bit.ly/parentsmigratingtocanadasoon and https://bit.ly/familimigrantinstagram

Are you a parent who will soon be permanently moving to Canada? Do you often ask yourself how will you raise kids away from your home country? How will you ensure you'd give them the better future you've been dreaming of? How will you make it successful in Canada? Hi! My name is Andrea and I'm the Canadian Immigrant Mommy. I moved to Canada in 2015, together with my husband and 2 children. Now, we have 2 more kids, so that makes us a family of 6. This is my first episode as the Canadian Immigrant Mommy. Join me as I share my journey with you as I navigate my way to becoming a successful Canadian immigrant and achieving that dream future for my children - which is the ultimate reason we moved here. My goal is to document our lives in Canada as a first generation immigrant with No friends nor family when we arrived here. Well, of course, 6 years later, that has changed. We found distant relatives and made new friends. But I'm sure you'll agree, nothing beats your immediate family and childhood friends from home. I plan to create regular content that will give you a glimpse of the immigrant life in Canada, as well as give you advice on how to make it successful here. From finding a job that makes you happy, saving money, finding a house and of course, raising a family. Feel free to send me a message when I haven't released an episode in a week. That will keep me accountable in my mission to help you become a successful Canadian immigrant parent too! Stay tuned for my next episode where I'll tell you the Reasons on Why we decided to leave our comfortable life and start in Canada all over again. --------------------------------------------------------------- For stories with pictures, follow my Facebook and Instagram page at https://bit.ly/parentsmigratingtocanadasoon and https://bit.ly/familimigrantinstagram

While that book goes into everything you need to know in your first year after coming to Canada, this book concentrates on how to get here, and some of the initial steps you need to take before and after you land. Skilled workers want to migrate to Canada but have to pay consultants' exorbitant fees. The horror stories of some of these consultants are legendary with some victims paying huge fees and never ever getting to see their dream home! I wanted to create a level-playing field for prospective immigrants. I wanted to write a book that would be a quick and simple read for immigrants who could use the information to apply to Canada themselves.
