Join our FREE Community - Chasing Health: Secrets to Losing 50+ Pounds On this week's episode, I'm excited to have Carter Good join me on the show! After losing 145 pounds himself and keeping it off, he now helps others who want to learn how to lose weight sustainably and still enjoy the fun things in life. Carter was one of the few accounts that I really looked up to while on my own weight loss journey, so it really meant a lot having him come on my show! In the episode, we chatted about: - Where he started, what started his journey, and what hooked him in this time for good. - Rapid weight loss… is it okay? For which population/demographic? What are the benefits or downsides? - His mental health and relationship with food after losing a large amount of weight and learning to find that “balance”. - Identity shifts while losing weight and after. - Learning to trust yourself around certain foods. - Finding ways to put himself in uncomfortable settings in order to grow and learn. - Where is Carter now, in terms of his fitness and nutrition? - Why doing the “boring work” 80% of the time can help you enjoy the 20% more. #moreofthebore - Pertaining to identity: weight loss is not a problem to be fixed, rather a skill to be gained. - How to create harmony in life while maintaining your weight loss. - What are some of the best habits and behaviors he notices of those who keep their weight loss off. - All choices you make are positive choices… a different way to think about your progress. - Understanding that maybe you're not ready for the complex stuff and that's okay… but, all the knowledge you're taking in now will pay off later. - What's the importance of finding out the Minimal Effective Dose? - Carter's top 2 recommendations for getting started today. In this episode, we have a very special guest episode—and a very good friend of mine—Carter Good. Carter has been coaching for about the same amount of time as me, but before he started coaching, Carter had his own weight loss journey, losing over 140lbs on his own. One of the most interesting things about Carter is that he lives his life in a way that is not super conducive to fat loss. He travels, goes to music festivals, and has managed to keep his weight off for over five years. I wanted to have Carter on the show because I know he will have a lot of great information on not only how to have your own transformation, but how to live your best life and maintain that transformation sustainably. Often, after we lose weight, we find ourselves trapped because we're afraid we won't keep it off. We stop going out and having fun, but it doesn't need to be that way—and Carter is a prime example of this. I know you'll enjoy and get a lot out of the variety of topics we cover in today's episode. Today we have Carter Good on the show!Carter is a fellow nutrition coach who has most definitely walked the walk along with being able to talk the talk. When Carter was in high school he went through a tough time while his parents divorce was a big scene in his small town.As a coping mechanism to the stress Carter found comfort in food and ultimately ended up weighing at his heaviest 305lbs while being 5'11.This was a gradual weight gain but eventually had to come to an end, Carter was able to drop about 150lbs and get back into shape and doing so, he gained some recognition from some fitness pages congratulating him on his achievement. He decided afterwards that he had a love for fitness and ultimately wanted to help others have the same success he had. In today's show we talk about his business, his approach to coaching, how at some point everyone needs to have fitness be one of the most important things in their life if they ever want to find sustainability and so much more!I was super excited to have Carter on and I hope you all enjoy the show!
The physical dimension is not the only dimension of life, nor is it even the most important. During this week's final stop of Three Words On The Road, life coach Dr. Michael Brown and lifestyle coach Carter Good put food and fitness in their rightful place while offering dozens of helpful tips along the way.
No new episode for this week, so we're throwing it back to one of my favorite episodes with one of my favorite people, Carter Good. This was an absolute banger of an episode. He returns to the podcast after a hiatus away and reminded me why I chose him as my very first guest on The More Than Fitness Podcast. If you scroll back, you'll see Carter on episode 3. Many episodes later and we're chatting again, both in different locations than the first time—he was in Columbus, OH and is now in Austin, TX and I was in Lexington, KY, now in New York City—but we're still connecting in the same way we did in that very first conversation. In this episode, we cover his recent move to Austin with his girlfriend Kaylin, what it's taught him and why he's not running away from his problems like he has in the past, why surrounding yourself with different types of people is good for you, how to learn from role models that are living the life you want to live, the science of happiness, the evolution of hard work as you get older and priorities change, why hustle is so important when you first start a career, the importance of stopping and reflecting before moving forward, craftsman-driven mindset and purpose-driven mindset, comparing yourself to others, and much, much more! **PS: If you could rate and review the podcast, it would mean the world to me and it would help get the word out to others just like us so we can continue building this amazing, one-of-a-kind community.** Connect With Carter: Instagram: @cartergood Website: https://cartergood.com Connect With Matt: [Free] 30-Day Ultimate Physique Development Manual: https://bit.ly/UltimatePhysiqueDevelopment Hire Matt For Coaching: https://mattmcleod.org/online-coaching Twitter: @mattmcleod6 Instagram: @mattmcleod6 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/mattmcleod6 Website: https://mattmcleod.org ---- Produced by: David Margittai | In Post Media Website: https://www.inpostmedia.com Email: david@inpostmedia.com Social: @_margittai © 2021 Matt McLeod

A frequent guest, good friend, a Vikings fan (do with that information what you will) Carter Good is back on the show and we are talking all things… emotions. Specifically, how to handle emotional situations within a relationship. We both read the book, " The Masculine in Relationships" by G.S. Youngblood and both absolutely resonated with it. The two of us have an interesting perspective as we are more "feminine" than the average guy and we are both in committed relationships with two amazing women who are more "masculine" than that average woman. We're here to talk about how that affects our work life, relationships, and get to the heart of how to be emotionally vulnerable while still striving for success. As with any journey of self-improvement, weight loss starts and ends with mindset. “Stop thinking of food as ‘good' or ‘bad',” says today's guest, Carter Good. “There's just food and the context in which it is eaten.” The struggle to form healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits comes down to the stories that you tell yourself around every decision you make, big or small. Carter himself attributes his past obesity to “using food as an emotional suppressant.” Carter goes on to say, “It's really about reframing things and getting people to a place where they don't feel like they have to make better choices and they have to exercise, but that they get to do these things.” Carter Good is a weight loss coach and the founder of the Leaner for Life community. He shares the story of how he lost 100 pounds in eight months, and why the hardest part of his journey came only after he lost all that weight. I’ve recorded hundreds of episodes of Muscle for Life on a huge variety of things related to health, fitness, and lifestyle, ranging from the basics of diet and exercise like energy and macronutrient balance and progressive overload and training frequency and volume to fads like the ketogenic and carnivore diet and collagen protein to more unfamiliar territories like body weight set point and fasted cardio. Some episodes resonate with my crowd more than others, but all of them contain at least a few key takeaways that just about anyone can benefit from (that’s what I tell myself at least). And as cool as that is, it poses a problem for you, my dear listener: Ain’t nobody got time for that. Well okay, some people do make the time to listen to most or even all of my podcasts, but my wizbang analytics tell me that while many listeners tune in on a regular basis, they don’t catch every installment of Muscle for Life and thus miss out on insights that could help them get a little better inside and outside the gym. People have also been saying they’d like me to do more shorter, multi-topic episodes, like my Q&As. And so I got an idea: how about a “best of” series of podcasts that contains a few of the most practical and compelling ideas, tips, and moments from my most popular episodes? This way, people who are new to the show can quickly determine if it’s for them or not, and those who enjoy what I’m doing but don’t have the time or inclination to listen to all of my stuff can still benefit from the discussions and find new episodes to listen to. So, in this installment of The Best of Muscle for Life, you’ll be hearing hand-picked morsels from three episodes: Carter Good on How to Finally Stop Binge Eating 11 Scientifically Proven Ways to Increase Your Bench Press Motivation Monday: How to Know When "Good Enough" Is Good Enough And we’ll be starting with number one, Carter Good on how to finally stop binge eating. He's helped hundreds of clients and thousands of people around the world lose weight and make fitness a flexible & enjoyable part of their life. Carter Good is someone who is very smart by nature, he's lost close to 150 lbs, he's moved around the country, he's had to follow his intuition and he likes the intricacies of the process of making wine. We talked about what life was like for him 10 years ago, we talked about his self awareness, and we talked about times he's doubted himself. He really strives off of being in control of his time and we discussed how he's benefited from investing more into meaningful friendships and relationships. We talked about saying no more often or blocking off certain days for certain tasks and we talked about how when you think the fitness industry is saturated, it doesn't mean that everyone is being reached. My lovely friends Carter and Kaylin were kind enough to invite me to their apartment over the weekend for some quality bonding time. It was our first time meeting in person, but we hit it off as if we'd known each other for years. To get the conversational juices flowing, we shared a few glasses of Cabernet and then recorded one helluva podcast together. We started off with a Silly Goose Time and things got DEEP towards the end of the episode, so make sure you listen all the way through. I have a feeling this won't be the last DrunkCast we all record together, but I hope you enjoy this one until we collaborate once again. Cheers! My years in the fitness racket have taught me many things about people, and one of them is that binge eating is far more common than I previously realized. In many cases, it’s prompted by extreme forms calorie restriction like water fasting, detox diets, and the like, and in others, it’s the result of bad eating habits developed on the way to becoming overweight. Binge eating isn’t just a problem for overweight people, though. There are many fit people out there, usually ones trying to maintain very low levels of body fat for one reason or another (social media, usually), who binge and purge rather regularly. Regardless of how fit or fat someone is, however, bingeing is a problem, and even when it’s done more “strategically” by drastically undereating for a period before or after a binge to keep body fat levels generally in an acceptable range. That approach can work for maintaining a nice looking body composition, of course, but it’s unsustainable and unhealthy, both physically and psychologically. It takes its toll, which often includes eating and body disorders. That’s why I invited Carter Good to come on the show. Carter lost 140 pounds—partly with the help of my Bigger Leaner Stronger program—and now has a large following built mostly through sharing simple, effective, science-based weight loss strategies and runs a successful fat loss coaching service. One of the biggest obstacles Carter ran into in his journey from 305 to 165 pounds was binge eating, and as you’d expect, many of his clients come to him struggling with it as well. In this interview, he’s going to share his most helpful observations, recommendations, and insights on how to beat binge eating once and for all. In this episode, you’ll learn . . . - What binge eating actually is (how it differs from simply overeating) - How much binge eating actually slows fat loss - The most common factors that lead to binge eating - Effective mental strategies for preventing binge eating - What to do after a binge (because we all fall off the wagon now and then) - And more 8:07 - How do you define binge eating? 12:48 - What are common factors that cause binge eating? 14:07 - How do you help people work through binge eating? 24:45 - How do you prevent binge eating? 36:13 - How do you help people work through the guilt of binge eating? 40:58 - Are there any outlets to prevent emotional eating? 56:24 - Where can people find you and your work? Carter Good with Roman Fitness Systems shares his ultimate guide to dining out and not blowing your diet. Episode 454: The Ultimate Guide to Dining Out and Not Blowing Your Diet by Carter Good with Roman Fitness Systems. RFS originally began as a personal training company servicing the NYC Metro area back in 2003. Through that company, Roman coached everyone from professional athletes to actors to regular folks. In 2009, John Romaniello started the site to more conveniently merge his love of fitness and writing. While it was “just a blog” at first, it quickly became much, much more. Slowly but surely, writing articles, blog posts and books became the priority. Today, RFS continues to be one of the most respected sites for high quality fitness and lifestyle information around. In this episode we are chatting with Carter Good about his journey where he lost an incredible 147 pounds (67kgs). We hear all about his radical lifestyle shifts and how he took the unconventional approach of not jumping on the scales to track his weight. In fact, he had no knowledge about nutrition or counting calories and still lost massive amounts of weight. It wasn’t until he lost 80 pounds that he hit a true plateau and decided to research how to get to the next level. Carter has practically been a human guinea pig for just about every dieting approach and gives a lot of advice on the pros and cons of each. We hear about the ways in which he made smarter food choices and why it’s vital for everyone to focus on their individual journey and what works for them.
