Mez joins us to share the story behind his Loading EP, featuring collaborations with standout artists like Childish Major, St John, Mavie, and Leon Bridges. He provides a candid look into the in-person studio sessions that birthed these tracks and discusses his vision for a balanced life where happiness, family, and career harmoniously coexist. From penning hits for Dr. Dre's Compton to receiving a life-altering call to work on Kanye West's Life of Pablo, I recount my personal rollercoaster of experiences in the music industry. Childish Major is a Grammy-nominated artist, producer, and songwriter. Despite having mainstream hits like "UOENO" by Rocko and "Tribe" by Bas & J. Cole in his catalogue, he's always favored making music that's a bit left of center. Most recently, he showcased his versatility on ScHoolboy Q's "Blue Lips" album as a featured artist, producer, writer and background vocalist. The range between his work on a high-energy track like "Pig feet" and an ethereal record like "Nunu" is incredible. We talk about how he navigates studio sessions as a multi-hyphenate, ScHoolboy Q's creative process while making "Blue Lips", his Mount Rushmore of producers, working with J. Cole on "4 Your Eyez Only", and much more!SUBSCRIBE to the OMT YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@OneMoreTimeCastFOLLOW One More Time:https://www.instagram.com/onemoretimecasthttps://www.tiktok.com/@onemoretimecastFOLLOW Childish Major:https://instagram.com/childishmajorBUY Music Tees:https://www.offkeysupply.com/

In this episode of the One More Time Podcast, we interview DeShawn Vinson talks about his journey managing Childish Major, joining the Sony Music Publishing family as A&R, picking up dog poop as an intern at DTP, and more!DeShawn Vinson is an A&R at Sony Music Publishing originally from Seattle. After visiting his cousin in Atlanta and hitting the strip clubs as a high schooler, he was immediately sold on moving to the A. Getting his start interning at DTP's studio, he was sweeping floors, cleaning up dog poop and doing food runs. Childish Major was working out of DTP as he transitioned into an artist and valued Da'Shawn's honest feedback / ability to "work a room" enough to trust him with his career. Leave it to J. Cole to bless fans with one hell of a surprise like this. Today (March 31), the Fayetteville star and his Dreamville camp — Ari Lennox, J.I.D, Bas, EARTHGANG, Cozz, Lute, and Omen — connect with DJ Drama for D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, which is expected to feature both unheard tracks and previously released cuts like J.I.D's “Ambassel,” a standout effort from the Madden NFL 22 Soundtrack. D-Day is also being released in conjunction with this year's Dreamville Festival, which takes place this weekend in Raleigh, NC, and (in addition to the aforementioned) will see a wealth of support from Lil Baby, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Kehlani, Moneybagg Yo, Bia, Rico Nasty, Wale, WizKid, Morray, Fivio Foreign, Blxst and more. Drama will also be in the proverbial building to perform a Gangsta Grillz set alongside Lil Wayne, Jeezy, and T.I. It's been a few years since the Dreamville collective came together for the third installment of their Revenge of the Dreamers series, which contained a healthy 18 cuts and a slew of outside contributions from the like of DaBaby, Reason, Childish Major, Yung Baby Tate, Guapdad 4000, Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, Smino, and Deante' Hitchcock. The project proved to be a huge success for all parties involved, landing at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 115,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. The following year, a Director's Cut upgrade of Revenge of the Dreamers III surfaced with 12 additional songs. As far as Cole himself, last year saw him liberating his sixth studio LP The Off-Season, another chart-topper from the camp (and Cole‘s sixth). He later promoted the album via a tour of the same name, bringing along 21 Savage and Morray for additional support. source: J. Andrew is very chill on 88rising's newest project "Head In The Clouds II" including some great tracks from Joji, Rich Brian, and NIKI. Sagar is absolutely befuddled that Chris Brown is back in the Top 40 in 2019.

Childish Major Talks Juggling Producing and Emceeing, Getting His First Big Placement, Working With J. Cole, and Premieres “Aim High” Live in StudioI've tried booking a Childish Major episode for a hot minute. Found him around 2015 as a rapper that I knew made beats. By the time we had J.I.D. on the show, I knew I had to reach out (I assumed he was part of Spillage Village). But I honestly wasn't aware of this man's pedigree. As it turns out his production credits are about a mile long. He's got placements with KN alums like the aforementioned J.I.D., along with EarthGang, and Rome Fortune. Not to mention works with J.Cole, Jeezy, 6lack, Big K.R.I.T., OG Maco, Two9, and Key!. But perhaps he's best know for the Rocko, Future, and Rick Ross collaboration “UENO.” A beat like that is a huge blessing, but it can also be the bane of a creative existence. When your art gets pigeon-holed and people want more “UENO style beats” it can become jarring. We touch on that in the conversation. From his beginnings in Minnesota with a father pursuing a rap career, his move to South Carolina, and eventually settling down in Atlanta, we discuss all of his geographic influence. Beyond that we talk about when he knows if a beat is for him or for someone else, and grinding it out sleeping on a couch when he moved to Atlanta before his first big placements.-Lee See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
