Send us a Text Message. In celebration of the Summer Olympics, we're reprising some past episodes featuring guests who have been there! Sue Humphrey says she was a "not very good" athlete growing up--but she loved sports, and she found her niche early: as a teenager she started helping other athletes. She excelled at coaching track and field, and worked her way up to college coaching (experiencing the beginning of Title IX), and eventually the international stage--although the field wasn't always welcoming to a young woman. At the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, Sue was a member of the coaching staff for USA's Track and Field team--and in 2004, she became head coach, dealing with everything from overseeing schedules to taking media calls in the middle of the night asking about athletes' drug tests. Sue shares what it's like to coach at the Olympics (the glamour of napping under a table on the field, for example), the importance of developing rapport with athletes, and what to do when an athlete is disappointed in a performance. In this episode:What's required of a Head Coach of an Olympic track and field team (03:00)The value of developing rapport with your elite athletes (08:45)Coalescing competitors into teammates (12:45)Olympic coaches vs. personal coaches (15:52)Experiencing the Opening Ceremonies (and what Sue did during Closing Ceremonies)(18:44)A typical day at the Olympics for Sue (24:16)Sue's complaints with the current NCAA and elite coaching systems (27:15)Her thoughts on being an Olympic coach vs. college coach vs. age-group coach (30:52)What makes her so successful? Isaac's legislative accomplishments have included phasing out the Inglewood Oil Field, ending prison gerrymandering and ending punishing fees for parents with foster children. On this podcast we take a look at how VP Kamala Harris's bid to be the Democratic Nominee for President is resonating in the golden state and we get updates on Bryan's work in the state legislature. https://www.instagram.com/ib2_real/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/diprimaradio/?hl=en https://www.dominiquediprima.com/about/
The Supreme Court has declared that presidents are in fact above the law - more on that tomorrow on Woke Wednesday. Today Danielle speaks with her friend Kierra Johnson, Executive Director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, about the very real threats to our democracy and the tools we do still have to organize and resist.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We wrap up our conversation about the Doctor Who Magazine readership story rankings with our assessment of how the Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, and Whittaker stories lined up. We comment on how fandom seems to be coalescing upon a consensus of what is the best (and worse) of the modern Doctors Who's stories. There are a few stories that we feel should be higher (and lower), but generally the order seems pretty spot on. Opening music is "I am the Doctor," composed by Murray Gold and closing music is "Thirteen," composed by Segun Akinola. We recorded this episode on 3 September 2023.

In this episode, Joe is joined by Scott Patterson, a Marine Corps veteran and the founder of Tumble. Scott served for 11 years in the Infantry before transitioning into the civilian sector. While staying with a friend in San Francisco, he became frustrated with the outdated and unreliable laundry set up in the apartment building and at his local laundromat. Scott shares with Joe how he entered the laundry industry and how Tumble is now in hundreds of buildings across multiple states. Check out Tumble here. About Our Guest Scott Patterson founded Tumble in 2019 with a mission to modernize the laundry experience. After serving 11 years in the United States Marine Corps, Patterson was trained to be diligent about his laundry. Upon leaving the marines, Patterson moved into a friend's apartment in San Francisco where he was shocked to see dirty laundry rooms with broken machines, stolen clothes and unreliable customer service. Coalescing his extensive military training with his passion for technology as a means to improve quality of life, Tumble was born with the goal of modernizing this highly-desired amenity. Tumble first launched in San Francisco in 2021 and has since scaled across California, with plans to be in 200 cities and 25 major metros by June 2023. Patterson's experience assembling highly-specialized teams has proven successful as he continues to identify and partner with experts in the field. As the organization's leader, his focus remains on product innovation, talent acquisition, partnership development and expansion efforts as the team continues to grow. Prior to starting Tumble, Patterson was an innovation designer at Accenture, in San Francisco, where he honed his skills across research and development, design and emerging technology. During his time in the United States Marine Corps, Patterson served first as unit infantry leader, where he acted as a senior enlisted advisor to the platoon commander and maintained accountability of all personnel. While at that post, he was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for superior performance. He later served as Operation Chief, where he consulted with the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, First Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant and coordinated all company operations for 160 Marines with higher levels of leadership at the battalion level. Observing the inspiral of coalescing massive black hole binaries with LISA in the era of Multi-Messenger Astrophysics by Alberto Mangiagli et al. on Thursday 24 November Massive black hole binaries (MBHBs) of $10^5 , rm M_odot - 3 times 10^7 , rm M_odot $ merging in low redshift galaxies ($zle4$) are sufficiently loud to be detected weeks before coalescence with the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). This allows us to perform the parameter estimation $on$ $the$ $fly$, i.e. as a function of the time to coalescence during the inspiral phase, relevant for early warning of the planned LISA protected periods and for searches of electromagnetic signals. In this work, we study the evolution of the sky position, luminosity distance, chirp mass and mass ratio uncertainties as function of time left before merger. Overall, light systems with total intrinsic mass $rm M_{rm tot} = 3 times 10^5 , rm M_odot$ are characterized by smaller uncertainties than heavy ones ($rm M_{rm tot} = 10^7 , rm M_odot$) during the inspiral. Luminosity distance, chirp mass and mass ratio are well constrained at the end of the inspiral. Concerning sky position, at $z=1$, MBHBs with $rm M_{rm tot} = 3 times 10^5 , rm M_odot$ can be localized with a median precision of $simeq 10^2 , rm deg^2 (simeq 1 , rm deg^2)$ at 1 month (1 hour) from merger, while the sky position of heavy MBHBs can be determined to $10 , rm deg^2$ only 1 hour before merger. However the uncertainty around the median values broadens with time, ranging in between 0.04 -- 20 $rm deg^2$ (0.3 -- 3 $times 10^3 , rm deg^2$) for light (heavy) systems at 1 hour before merger. At merger the sky localization improves down to $simeq 10^{-1} , rm deg^2$ for all masses. For the benefit of the observer community, we provide the full set of data from our simulations and simple and ready-to-use analytical fits to describe the time evolution of uncertainties in the aforementioned parameters, valid for systems with total mass between $10^5$--$10^7 , rm M_odot$ and redshift $0.3$--$3$. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2006.12513v2

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Editor David Horovitz and diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman join host Amanda Borschel-Dan on today's episode. Three weeks following the Israeli elections, the coalition has yet to coalesce. What are the current obstacles and what are some reactions from top US Jewish leaders? Prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu is fielding calls from world leaders, including, and perhaps most notably from the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Will bygones be bygones? The World Cup is now taking place in Qatar. Horovitz speaks about some historic firsts and how some of the world is relating to Qatar's human rights record. Berman jumps in and discusses how the fact that a team of six Israeli diplomats are currently in Doha -- which does not have official relations with Jerusalem -- is a cautiously optimistic sign. Israel is also hosting its own sporting event, the World Team Chess Championship which kicked off yesterday in Jerusalem. Horovitz plunges into makes this match so exciting. Discussed articles include: Likud woes over coalition assembly mount as far-right partners dig in on demands US Reform chief: Ben Gvir as police minister akin to KKK leader as attorney general Orthodox parties demand legalization of gender-segregated public events At the World Cup, a timid start, on and off the pitch, for hosts Qatar World Cup kicks off in Qatar after troubled 12-year buildup and fierce criticism World chess tourney kicks off in Jerusalem, featuring star accused of cheating Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. IndieRE : Independent Radio Exchange Production : Radio Študent Ljubljana, SL In this edition of Indie-Re we are visiting Slovenia's alternative and underground scene and various albums released in the past couple of months. From afrobeat collective Nesesari Kakalulu's newest album, P'Jays and Kavasutra, two bands mixing together elements of jazz and rock. Then Zajtrk, a folk chanson duo, will follow, and the Trite Sound label with their most recent compilation of electronic music, simply titled 8, to the promising death metal band Siderean with their debut LP. Nesesari Kakalulu and Zajtrk's music will be followed by a short interview with their respective members. Let us explore some of the interesting new music from the Slovenian alternative and underground scene. We will start with Nesesari Kakalulu, psychedelic funk and afrobeat band, followed by a short interview with Timi Vremec, the band's bass player. We are also presenting a song of theirs, titled Srce teme, from their third album Pramada, which was released on the 26th of July. P'Jays, formerly known as Pijammies, are a jazz band, consisting of 5 members: Tomaž Gajšt on trumpet, Gaj Bostič on drums, Blaž Avsenik on synthesiser, Mark Žakelj and Jošt Lampret on electric guitars, with Jošt also providing bass lines. They are a fairly young band, but most of them are studying music, which is reflected in the quality of their sound, consisting of elements of jazz, funk and rock. Now let's listen to the song Free Spirit from their freshly released second album titled Raconteurs, released by SonicTribe. If you feel like the name Kavasutra sounds PG-13, then the cover art of their debut album, titled Zlati stojan, lajf in Celje, confirms that feeling. Kavasutra is a five member collective from Šempeter pri Gorici, with Ajk Vremec and Anton Lorenzutti, both on vocals and electric guitar, Žiga Ipavec on drums and Timi Vremec on bass guitar. They play a humorous derivative of jazz rock, and we are going to listen to the song Globalno segrevanje. The folk duo Zajtrk consists of Laura Krajnc on vocals, tambourine and shaking eggs and Sven Horvat on vocals and guitar. They released their first album in 2018, and on 10th of July they self-released their second LP called Žetev, for which they invited a bunch of friends to play instruments on a couple of songs. They take inspiration from chanson, folk, pop and acoustic music, layered with playful, witty lyrics. They do not take themselves too seriously and are taking a fresh approach to storytelling in folk music. They are gonna tell us more themselves in a short interview, and we will listen to two of their songs: Ti me pelješ and Maček v žaklju. Somewhere in the coastal area of Slovenia, there is an exciting label that releases electronic music, and it is called TRITE Sound. Championed by the electronic producer .čunfa, the label presented a compilation that demonstrates the span of its musicians. It is titled 8, born split in two: it has a ligher and a darker side. First, we are going to listen to the song Faking Jazz Together by nu-disco band YGT, formerly Your Gay Thoughts, from the light side of 8. Then, it will be followed by a song from the dark side, Dweller's Dub by the promising music producer Rochwald. And last but definitely not least, we are saying goodbye with some death metal provided by a band called Siderean, enjoy their song Coalescing into the Expanse from the freshly released LP. It is titled Lost on Void's Horizon, and it was released by Edged Circle Productions. Prepare yourself for a cosmic journey into the scary unknown with Siderean. FEATURED ARTISTS/PRODUCERS/LABELS: Nesesari kakalulu (self-released), P'Jays (SonicTribe), Kavasutra (KUD Zvočni izviri), Zajtrk (self-released), Trite Sound, Siderean (Edged Circle Productions) Prepared by Ula Kranjc Kušlan and Marko Miočić. Sound mixing by Samo Pavlica - Linč. Announced by Ula Kranjc Kušlan and Marko Miočić.

Born out of a culture of chasing ideas and a spirit of innovation, Corgan sprints press design and our profession to confront real-time challenges and provide elegant solutions that work. Giving design a purpose, Corgan's Robbie Good and Alexandra Ayres were part of a cross-sector team rethinking health and wellness with a new conceptual product that combines personal hygiene and the growing popularity of wearable technology. The global COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the profound impact of biological threats and disease transmission. Coalescing around innovation and combining their passion for creative problem solving and human-centric experiences, the team comprised of members of Corgan's interiors, branded environments, and aviation practices partnered with Hugo, the firm's research and development arm, to create Pera. More than a wearable hand sanitizer, Pera encourages users to live a healthier life—retraining users on routine but important measures such as hand washing, enabling touchless sanitization, and empowering healthier decisions throughout their day. In this episode of the Square, Robbie and Alexandra also share how the team navigated agile, virtual collaboration to balance good design with quick solutions that provide real-time, relevant solutions. Driven by immediacy of use, not slick perfection, Pera inspires and represents the power of actionable design solutions—small improvements that have the potential to be powerful instruments of change when we need them most. #DesignSprint #DesignCompetition #PeraWear VISIT: Corgan.com Also connect with us on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/CorganInc/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CorganInc/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CorganInc LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/corgan Video Produced by: Corgan Have Questions? In this our 12th episode, we discuss how the newest generation of humans are being born at a higher photonic rate than that of just 30 years ago. Why is this and what does it mean? What does it mean to us as an individual and to the whole of the human race? It's all based on the fact that the photon has begun to vibrate at a slightly higher rate causing materials to coalesce in different ways. Even the powerful emotional energy of love has begun to change and become more dense even to the point of it becoming and actual element. Join us as we learn together and always know that we Love You!

Dr. Angelica Hardee (affectionately known as Dr.gelz) is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. She currently leads strategy and advocacy as the VP of Health Strategies at the American Heart Association and also the President of the National Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Southwest Ohio. Dr. Hardee is a three-time alumna of the University of Cincinnati (UC) where she received her Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate in Public Health. At UC Dr. Hardee’s studies focused on global health systems and health policy. Dr. Hardee’s dissertation was related to malaria control methods among pregnant women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her research internationally addressed the needs amongst the world's most vulnerable populations. In addition, she established health promotion and education programs while teaching and mentoring students interested in public health.Dr. Hardee attributes her dedication and passion for public health associated with her love for volunteering. Working everywhere from local classrooms at the University of Cincinnati to small communities in developing nations, she wants to be a part of eliminating health disparities. Dr. Hardee recently co-founded Let’s Change Our City, a community initiative in Cincinnati, Ohio. Within the organization students from neighboring universities are able to engage with community partners and refer patients to essential social services addressing both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Dr. Hardee always knew her future was in healthcare, but not as a medical doctor. Rather her passion for public health can help to inspire change of health outcomes.Currently Dr. Hardee lives in Cincinnati, Ohio and works in the nonprofit sector focused on population health. In her current role she works with health systems and community agencies to address and navigate health related social needs. In addition to her primary role Dr. Hardee works with public health organizations to implement policies to improve health in Ohio. She also mentors youth and tutors high school students on ACT & SAT preparation while mentoring college students and young professionals navigating the public health field. In this episode, Dr. Hardee brings joy and equity to the center of community health. She reflects on her shift from international research to leading public health strategies locally in her home state. She also shares the misconception that women need to have said education credentials to have a seat at the table and lead systems change. Reflecting on an article written by Dr. Danielle Moss on Black women in the nonprofit sector, Dr. Hardee furthers the need to center race and race politics within the sector's operations internally and externally. We are in agreement that when we aren't empowered enough to advocate for ourselves, we set generations at a disadvantage. Her work with Cradle Cincinnati amplifies the significance of centering race to health outcomes of Black mothers and their babies. Additionally we explore her insights on what a younger generation of Black professionals desire in the moment of racial justice reckoning: alongside our elders and in predominantly White spaces. Dr. Hardee makes clear the diligence needed in public health and the nonprofit sector at large in valuing the treasures and assets within the community. ****References to Dr. Danielle Moss's article Black Women in Nonprofits Matter appear in this episode. We celebrate our time, talent and treasures as we are also reminded that our voices matter in the sector as we share Forward 4O’s platform with this phenomenal WOC in the nonprofit and social enterprise sector. A network of ground-based interferometric gravitational wave detectors (LIGO/VIRGO/GEO/...) is currently taking data near its planned sensitivity. Coalescing black hole binaries are among the most promising, and most exciting, gravitational wave sources for these detectors. The talk will review the theoretical and experimental challenges that must be met in order to successfully detect gravitational waves from coalescing black hole binaries, and to be able to reliably measure the physical parameters of the source (masses, spins, ...).

How do we coalesce towards sharing a purpose together that will shape the way we work together?QuotesChange is actually continuous, but our response to it is not always to do something. Sometimes it confirms us more in the way we are. It can make us more comfortable to hold things that are more predictable - like a marble rolling to the bottom of a basin. On any given day we can imagine or see more things that we could throw ourselves at and change than can ever be addressed. So even at the very front end there is the question of choice, of prayerful consideration of what you're being called to do.Crisis is a serious unravelling, and if we've left things until we're desperate, we're probably in that unravelling situation. And I don't think that's uncommon in this phase of history we're in because so many conversations of leadership have been caught flat footed by the pace of change.Churches in particular are flat footed because of not seeing change as something that ought to be constantly engaged with, constantly processed as part of living. We've tended to see conservatism and static and sameness as desirable states. Perhaps they are for graveyards. We see threats to stability as bad and to be guarded against. And we need to lead past that as a barrier because that's just going to lead to slow and painful irrelevance. That’s not a vibrant continuation of holding the Gospel story in in the community.Construction of a burning platform is the lazy leadership because it's not about calling us into a future. It's about saying “I’ll wait ‘til everyone's got hot and then will they follow me into a new future and it will be easy. It's not about burning platforms. It's about telling the truth about the context that we live in, and telling the truth about the wonders of the gospel and God’s offer into that context, and joining those two together – not artificially creating crises in order to activate people. You need a lot of voices in this early stage of coming to grips with a need or a situation. You actually got to do a lot of listening, and to hold a space of openness to a variety of voices in order to actually understand what the system is.In your early conversations try and have the “system in the room” by the people you have in the room. Have a representative from each of those parts of the operation that will be touched; those who will be required to supply; those who will be required to govern it; those will be required to monitor; those who will be impacted by it, who will be looking over your shoulder and perhaps be afraid of what you're doing.Thomas Kuhn in his work on Scientific Revolutions had a major impact on our thinking about the history of science. And he made it really clear from his historical studies just how much innovation relies on communities of thought, on multiple people. The heroic individual was the exception not the rule. The heroic individual is another paradigm that the church has bought. But if you want to be an effective agent of change it's one you better get out of your head, because understanding the system requires multiple voices. That brings a challenge not only for the leader in the church context but also the congregation .Coalescing around a purpose is a very different thing to providing an answer. There's a definition that came out of the Harvard Business Review article quite a few years ago that says that “the exercise of leadership is about realizing a future that wasn't going to happen anyway”. A future that wasn't going to happen anyway is one where we've actually had to really make some serious choices about difference, where we've really had to confront our assumptions and take new perspectives.ReferencesPotential activities during the scope phase:Be curiousTake perspectivesSurface assumptionsShare reflectionsListen Here
