Mark Coope At 63 years old, faced severe mental health challenges after a life-altering event. He was a confident, active person with a thriving business and a loving family. But everything changed on February 19th, 2016, when he was viciously attacked by a group of youths. The physical wounds healed, but the psychological scars left me battling severe PTSD. His business suffered, his self-esteem plummeted, and he was on the brink of giving up. In early 2024, during a routine doctor's visit, he had a breakdown. Years of buried negative emotions erupted, and he realized he needed to change. With his wife Rachel's unwavering support, Mark embarked on a journey to reclaim his life and focused on his health. Mark found a mentor, and started an online business called Elderpernuer. Today, Mark is not only a successful entrepreneur, but also a passionate advocate for helping others overcome their struggles and find success.
Wendy K Laidlaw welcomes back Dr Tony Coope (MD) from the UK to the Podcast where they discuss the truths and safety of natural bio-identical progesterone cream. “With endometriosis it's not just about adding Progesterone. Without addressing the emotional and spiritual elements of your life, you cannot heal. That's the conclusion I have come too”. Dr Tony Coope There is often a significant amount of misinformation, misunderstanding and confusion amongst many women, including the mainstream medical realm, about the use and supplementation of natural bio-identical progesterone cream. Natural bio-identical progesterone cream is a safe way to naturally increase levels of the hormone progesterone (if it is low, or there is none showing up in tests). However, natural bio-identical progesterone is often mistaken for the chemical alternative called Progestins, which are produced by the big pharmaceutical companies and may cause severe side effects for women with endometriosis. Dr Tony Coope has a wide breadth of experience and wealth of knowledge covering various health conditions spanning over 40+ years. He has trained and served in general practice, as well as a hospital doctor, covering the specialities of medicine, surgery, paediatrics, geriatrics and emergency/trauma medicine. After leaving general practice he explored an Integrated Medical approach to healing naturally including the use of nutritional supplements, bio-identical hormones, botanicals, as well as complex homeopathy and the use of sound and monochromatic light in healing. He has specialised for over 20 years in female hormone health, incorporating psychology and psychosomatic elements of complementary medicine to assist a full brain/body health and healing. Dr Tony Coope's journey enabled him to branch further into spiritual matters, philosophy and metaphysics, which he believes expands an individual's sense of meaning and purpose in the world, thereby leading to full health, wholeness and fulfilment. *Please note* - it is recommended to address the emotional and spiritual elements of yourself, relationships and past events, first, (and The 5 P's; Poisons, Produce, Products, Property, People & Past), prior to introducing any natural bio-identical progesterone cream. A complaint or investigation is one of the most stressful things you can experience as a healthcare professional, and this is true no matter what sort of job you do. However, we can’t live and work in fear of complaints and we should certainly not beat ourselves up when we make a mistake (and we will do). There are better ways to handle these situations.Drs Sarah Coope, Annalene Weston, and Sheila Bloomer join us in this first episode in a new series on ‘Complaints and How to Survive Them’ created in partnership with Medical Protection and Dental Protection, to talk about coaching doctors and dentists through complaints made against them. We also talk about the perfectionist mindset and how changing our perspective towards failure can help us and those around us.If you want to know how to deal better with complaints made against doctors and other professionals in high-stress jobs, stay tuned to this episode. Here are 3 reasons why you should listen to the full episode:Find out the difference between a fixed and a growth mindset.Know how reframing some of our negative self-talk can help us when we fail.Discover the one phrase we should have learned in our training that might save us from false expectations.Episode Highlights[07:47] Why We Deal with Complaints BadlyMany don't have the mental-emotional capacity to deal with having hurt someone else.Medical professionals are used to success but not failure.[15:53] Being Kind to Ourselves as PractitionersMedical culture teaches its trainees and professionals that they come second to patients. Practitioners are not as kind to themselves as they need or deserve to be.[17:44] Growth Mindset vs Fixed MindsetThe fixed mindset makes a person feel being a failure is their identity. The growth mindset takes failure as a learning opportunity.[24:23] Having High Expectations and Being Perfect We are uncomfortable with making mistakes and have unrealistic expectations.Reassure practitioners that they are not the only ones making mistakes. Be kind to yourself. [27:45] Having a MentorMentors can help you understand the 'why' of a clinical mistake.[30:54] Imposter SyndromeSome dental practitioners don't want other people to see their work. [34:14] Getting Out of the Perfectionist MindsetIdentify the mindset of someone going through a complaint. Spend some time asking them about their thoughts behind their feelings.Reframe someone's perspective to step back and start building confidence.[40:32] Top TipsAccept that mistakes and difficult situations will happen.Be willing to grow from mistakes.Speak to somebody early on.Trainees need to accept they will make mistakes. Some of them will be serious, and that is okay. This week I return to the theme of Legends of British Triathlon and our first female guest, Sarah Coope. Sarah was a 6 time European champion over all distances from Standard (1) to Ironman (2). She was also the first GB female to make it onto the podium at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, finishing third behind Paula Newby-Fraser and Erin Baker. Since retiring from competition in the mid 90’s, Sarah has maintained a presence in triathlon as a coach with her longtime partner Glenn Cook, running Team Bodyworks Performance Triathlon in Eastbourne. This is another great chat and as you’ll hear at the end Sarah enjoyed reminiscing some of her triathlon experiences including: The importance of play in the development of youth and junior athletes How a serious crash with a car led to her first triathlon bike and the start of a successful tri career Racing at the Home Nations event in N. Ireland and training with a security escort Sarah’s first wetsuit swim at the Nice International triathlon in France, a perfect example of why you should never try anything new on race day Completing her first Ironman having consumed just water Training in San Diego, the mecca of triathlon, in the late 80’s Just because you finish third in Kona doesn’t mean you have the perfect race The challenges of coaching junior athletes To find out more about Sarah’s coaching work please visit the website, https://www.teambodyworks.com/ or the Facebook page Team Bodyworks XTC. Jack in a Barrel are a seven piece acapella group based in Bedfordshire, England. They perform a range of traditional and 'traditional sounding' songs, from standards like John Ball to more reflective numbers such as John Tams’ Devonshire Carol, taking in the odd sea shanty and music hall number along the way. Acapella trio Coope, Boyes & Simpson have certainly been a stylistic influence and the songs of Peter Bellamy feature significantly in JIAB's repertoire. They weave a rich musical tapestry with multi part harmonies and sophisticated arrangements. They can create an exhilarating wall of sound, but they are equally at home with the dynamics of more subtle material. http://jackinabarrel.co.uk/
