Reverse dieting gets sold as a slow, safe way to “fix” your metabolism after fat loss, but the evidence and the real-world experience rarely match the promise. Reverse dieting came out of coaching, not research. Add 50 calories a week, bring your metabolism back up, stay lean while you do it. We break down why most people cannot execute it, why it often delays recovery, and how to transition out of a cut with faster metabolic and hormonal rebound while keeping your head straight about the scale. If you're coming out of a fat loss phase (or years of dieting) and want metabolism recovery in days instead of months, hit play!Try MacroFactor with code WITSANDWEIGHTS for an extended free trial, the food logging app that calculates your expenditure dynamically so you know your maintenance calories the week your cut ends. You'll learn:Where reverse dieting came from and why it sounds so reasonable Why adherence collapses even in disciplined physique competitors What the limited research shows on reverse dieting vs. maintenance vs. “eat normally” What the Minnesota Starvation Experiment reveals about delayed rebound Why staying in a deficit slows metabolic rate and hormone recovery A practical post-cut planThe scale math behind rapid post-diet weight gain (and why it's rarely body fat)Timestamps:0:00 - The reverse dieting promise 4:33 - Where reverse dieting came from 7:42 - Problem 1, can you even do this? 10:20 - The one randomized trial we have 13:15 - Finding your real maintenance calories 16:26 - What happened when compliance was guaranteed 19:55 - What your metabolic rate responds to 20:58 - What happened to the women's cycles 22:31 - Who this research applies to 25:33 - 5 steps for the week your cut ends 32:23 - Scale math after a cutEpisode Resources:Why Your Body Fights Fat Loss (The Truth About Setpoint Theory)
Send us Fan MailScott and Michelle continue their chronological journey through Halloween Horror Nights history with a deep dive into Halloween Horror Nights 22, one of the most experimental and memorable events of the modern era.Rather than centering the event around a single icon, HHN 22 introduced The Legions of Horror, turning nearly the entire park into one massive roaming scare zone filled with vampires, warriors, zombies, prisoners, beasts, and the sinister Iniquitus. It marked the first time since 2007 that Universal focused on one large park-wide scare zone instead of several individual scare zones. The episode also revisits one of the strongest licensed lineups of the early 2010s, including The Walking Dead: Dead Inside, Welcome to Silent Hill—the first video game property ever featured at Halloween Horror Nights—Alice Cooper: Welcome to My Nightmare, and the wildly inventive Penn & Teller: New(kd) Vegas. Scott and Michelle also discuss standout original houses like Dead End, Gothic, and Universal's House of Horrors, which celebrated Universal Pictures' century-long horror legacy. Beyond the houses, they revisit the return of Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure, the debut of 20 Penny Circus: Fully Exposed, and the first Halloween Horror Nights Cinematic Spectacular, while discussing how HHN 22 balanced blockbuster IPs with memorable original concepts. Was HHN 22 an underrated classic? When life feels stuck, it can leave us wondering if God sees us—or if anything will ever change. In this message, Tim Doremus helps us look to Jesus when life feels like a dead end and remember that God is still present, even when the way forward is hard to see. This message is part of the Jesus Always series from Life.Church. It is recording of a message from Tim Doremus.
Mark 3:1-8 | They Rejected YOU — but This Is NOT a Dead EndYOU did the right thing and got rejected for it.That is the part that stings the most. It would be easier if YOU had failed, if YOU had earned it. But YOU did something good — something right — and instead of being celebrated, YOU were criticized, pushed out, or quietly plotted against by the very people who should have been in YOUR corner. And it left YOU wondering if doing the right thing was even worth it.Mark 3 opens on that exact scenario.Someone did something undeniably good, in front of everyone, to help a person nobody else would help. And instead of joy, it triggered a reaction so hostile that the people watching immediately began making plans to destroy Him. Not correct Him. Destroy Him. The good deed did not open a door — it seemed to slam one.But that is where most people misread the whole situation. Here is what most people miss. He did not stay and fight the people who rejected Him. He did not argue, defend Himself, or try to win them back. He did something that looks, at first, like defeat — He withdrew. He moved. And what happened the moment He did is the entire point of this passage.Because the place He withdrew to did not get smaller. It got bigger. Far bigger.People started coming to Him from directions and distances that had never happened before — from regions that had never sent anyone, crowds so large they are listed by name and place in the text. The rejection in one room did not shrink His reach. It multiplied it. What looked like the end of something was actually the doorway into something larger than anything He had walked in before. There is also a detail at the very start of this passage — a man told to do the one thing he physically could not do, in front of the people waiting to accuse — that will change the way YOU respond the next time God asks YOU to move on something that looks impossible while people are watching, hoping YOU fail.So what did he do? And what happened when the rejected One kept moving?Press play — because they may have rejected YOU, but this is NOT a dead end. This message will show YOU exactly what to do when doing right gets YOU pushed out, and why the door that slammed was never the only door.
What do you do when you finish six years of architecture school, land in the profession, and realize none of it speaks to you? Evan and Cormac start with a former student on a Detroit construction tour who says the buildings around her are falling on deaf ears, and they take the question seriously instead of waving it off. They dig into the difference between dreading the work and feeling nothing for it, why the degree opens far more doors than the traditional path, and how meaning has to be found before happiness can follow it.From there the conversation widens into attitude and its contagious effect on a team, the collapse of the mentorship that used to teach young architects why a single line matters, and a misplaced fire department connection that reveals how coordination breaks down when nobody asks the question. This episode is especially relevant for emerging professionals second-guessing the path they chose, and for the people managing them. You'll leave with a harder, more honest frame: the situation is yours to change, and no one else is going to do it for you. Too many people settle and are complacent and comfortable without understanding the mindsets they have is their greatest enemy. They're stuck and stagnant because of their own ways of thinking, feeling, and acting! Until people get out of their own way and allow healing of their hearts and minds, no change will occur! This can't be accomplished without doing the necessary inside work! People will continue to accept and allow things against their own best interest. They will think it's okay to get into or remain in unhealthy, toxic, and dead-end relationships! Love isn't blind, people are! Yet, those with unhealed hearts and minds don't realized how their own unresolved inner issues affect their lives!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/relationships-and-relatable-life-chronicles--4126439/support.

Adam, Joanna, and Zach discuss the siren's song of online wine sales, and in particular the idea of affiliate marketing and referrals. So many businesses have taken aim at this potential market, yet when even Amazon decides that selling wine online is a non-starter, why do people continue to try? What are the specific challenges that make selling wine (and other beverage alcohol) online so difficult. Plus, an extended discussion of flavored whiskey. Two unrelated client projects landed in Susan Finch's lap the same week — a document hub for Dan Pflugshaupt (Gallery of Homes, CSSE, NRBA) and FAQ content built for AI answer engines for Michele Scherger on Florida's Treasure Coast. Different clients, different states, same underlying problem: ads and content that dump people on a homepage instead of giving them a real answer. Susan walks through what changes when every page has to stand completely on its own, why Corey Frank and Chris Beall's "earn the next conversation, not the close" philosophy from Market Dominance Guys applies far beyond sales calls, and how a resource hub organized by real-world sequence beats a folder full of files every time. Includes a practical homework list anyone can run on their own site this week. 00:00 — Cold open: two different client projects, same underlying problem 01:15 — The wasted click: ads that dump people on a homepage 02:00 — The test: would this page help someone who never buys from you? 02:51 — Corey Frank and Chris Beall: earn the next conversation, not the close 03:37 — Dan Pflugshaupt's document hub as the working example 04:28 — Why it's a landing page with a request-it CTA, not a shared drive 05:09 — Organizing by situation and transaction sequence, not alphabetically 07:44 — Don't gate everything behind a form too early 08:00 — The naming convention nobody wants to talk about 08:49 — Pivot to Michele Scherger's FAQ project and the answer engine angle 09:18 — Why AI answer engines reward clear, complete answers 10:29 — Dan's six-category hub structure, sequenced by real transaction flow 11:09 — Walk beside your site visitors, don't rush the close 12:02 — Homework: audit your last three ad campaigns 13:18 — What analytics can't tell you — ask your team 13:42 — The Binky Patrol example: people couldn't find what was obvious to Susan 14:49 — Teach your team how to use the hub you already built 15:33 — The offer: ask for an independent review, Austin tells you the truth 16:17 — Close: earning the next conversation, credit to Corey and Chris
Friends of Dead End, Nancy Solomon here. This Wednesday I'm hosting an event at WNYC – at 7 pm. It's all about the history of FEMA – the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a recent series by On The Media. After years of reporting on far-right militias, co-host Micah Loewinger knew that extremist groups often showed up after natural disasters to recruit, fundraise, and spit-shine their public image. But it wasn't clear why they hated FEMA so much. After digging around in right-wing media archives, it became clear that the anti-FEMA lore went back decades. The four-part investigation examines how the agency tasked with saving America became so distrusted, despised, and defunded and, looking to the future, how the agency will be reshaped during the Trump administration. On Wednesday, I get to interview Micah and producer Eloise Blondiau about the making of the series. We'll be joined by a former FEMA staffer. I'm really excited for the conversation – and I hope you'll come join me in person. Get a ticket at wnyc.org/events. Backwoods horror, road trip terror, gas station nightmares, isolated towns, Ozark creatures, and middle-of-nowhere survival collide in this brutal collection of four creepy horror stories. If you love roadside dread, rural secrets, desperate escapes, strange towns, and stories where one wrong turn changes everything, this episode is built to leave dirt under your nails and headlights in your nightmares.Tonight's lineup takes you from a father-daughter road trip that veers into pure nightmare, to a security job in a town where something ancient is waiting beneath a church, to a vicious Ozark creature feature soaked in blood and panic, and finally to a gas station shift where the fluorescent lights hide something far darker than bad coffee and impatient customers. This is horror at the edge of the map—where the woods close in, the locals know more than they say, and the next stop might be the worst mistake of your life.• Strike-Out! — by Morgan MooreA spring road trip to see family turns catastrophic when a father and daughter break down at the worst possible place imaginable. Tense, nasty, and full of survival-horror momentum, this one feels like a childhood nightmare told with the pedal pinned down.• I Was Sent to a Small Town Where Strange Things Were Happening — by Michael KelsoA security specialist arrives in a remote New England town to investigate frightened workers and finds vanished people, forbidden tunnels, and something inhuman wearing a human face. This one leans hard into eerie isolation, old evil, and creeping dread.• Bite Me — by David O'HanlonA reunion weekend in the Ozarks becomes a blood-soaked creature nightmare when something impossible starts feeding in the woods. Wild, fast, and vicious, it mixes backwoods horror with monster-movie chaos in the best way.• I Hate Working at the Gas Station After Discovering Its Dark Secret — by Michael KelsoA bitter overnight clerk, a missing coworker, corporate surveillance, and a horrifying secret tied to a distribution center turn a routine gas station job into full paranoid nightmare fuel. Funny, grim, and deeply unsettling. From lonely mountain roads to church basements, flea-ridden woods, and convenience stores where the cameras always seem to be watching, this collection is all about the moment a familiar place turns wrong and keeps getting worse.

2026-05-03 | UPDATES #191 | Tupik. Russia's own war correspondents just declared the war a dead end. The confessions of disheartened z-bloggers and turbo patriots. This episode is based on Michael Naki's survey of Russian z-blogger confessions. Whines of doom and gloom, whinging about the weakness of Russia and Putin's failure to erase Ukraine as a nation, a people, and as a military power. There is one Russian word you need to hold in your head for the next ten minutes. The word is Tupik. It means dead end. Cul-de-sac. The road that goes nowhere. Ironic that as we approach May 9th, Victory Day, we should be focusing on the war in which Russians no longer see victory, but rather a catastrophic defeat that now threatens to become an existential risk to their imperial realm. For four years, this word has been forbidden in Russian state media. The official line, repeated by Vladimir Putin, by Defence Minister Belousov, by Chief of General Staff Gerasimov, by every state television presenter, by every official briefing — was that the Special Military Operation was progressing. That every Ukrainian village taken was a victory. That every line on the map redrawn in Russia's favour was evidence of inevitable triumph. That the Western analysts predicting Russian failure were inventing fictions.----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/scaling-up-campaign-to-fight-authoritarian-disinformation----------ACTIVE CAMPAIGN:We are raising funds for 5 of 15 Vampire DronesSilicon Curtain for Kupiansk Vampires. The goals we set often lead us away from the meaning we ultimately seek.Meaning in life isn't a concrete point we can route toward. That's why we need what Arthur Brooks calls “proxy goals” — and much better ones than we typically choose.Brooks, a professor at Harvard Business School and author of The Meaning of Your Life: Finding Purpose in an Age of Emptiness, says that meaning can't be pursued directly, but rather through proxy goals — markers that lead us to what we're really seeking. “The big, complex, meaning-filled things in life, you can't see them directly,” he says. “If you want to find meaning, you have to have proxy goals.” The problem is that many of us have chosen terrible proxies. “Money, power, pleasure, fame, prestige; those are really bad proxy goals for the meaning of life,” Brooks says. “You're never gonna find it.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Brooks returns to the show, and with host Matt Abrahams, he explores how we can move from searching for meaning to actually finding it. From understanding the three components of meaning to transcending the “me self,” Brooks offers practical guidance for those who strive and strive, yet still feel like something's missing. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Arthur BrooksArthur's Book: The Meaning of LifeArthur's Podcast: Office Hours179. New motions have been filed in the Mallory Beach civil conspiracy case — and they expose a glaring double standard that should make everyone pay attention. Gregg Roman, the man directly linked to confidential photos of Mallory Beach's body ending up in a documentary sizzle reel, is fighting tooth and nail to avoid a deposition — claiming journalist privilege, Israeli AND Philadelphia residency, and even a potential Israeli military obligation? Greg Parker's attorneys have been paid royally from Parker's fried chicken sales, dragging Mandy and Liz through costly legal battles over depositions they never should have faced — and denied them the same accommodations offered to this "Middle East Policy Expert" at the center of the civil conspiracy allegations. On today's episode, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell break down who Gregg Roman really is, his paid connection to Greg Parker, and why the South Carolina Supreme Court now holds the key to the simplest question in this case: Who gave Gregg Roman those photos? Let's Dive in…

Your Health Journey Shouldn't Feel Like a Dead End. After years of struggling with her own health, and finding little to no real answer, our founder, Alenka, made a life-changing decision: she would stop waiting and start searching. She dove deep into research. She explored countless treatments, therapies, and healing modalities. Some helped. Some didn't, at least not at the right time. But through that journey, she uncovered two powerful truths: 1. Finding the right help shouldn't depend on "who you know." Too many people are left stuck, overwhelmed, and without direction simply because they don't have access to the right connections. 2. The best healers aren't always the most visible. There are incredible, passionate holistic providers who truly care, but many didn't enter this field to master marketing, social media, or business systems. As a result, they remain hidden from the very people who need them most. And that's where everything changed. ✨ That's how SAHA was born. A bridge between people searching for answers and the experts who can help them find them. Using our custom matchmaking system, we connect you with trusted, aligned health professionals, so you can stop guessing and start healing. SAHA is built to: Meet you exactly where you are in your journey Support those who feel like they've "tried everything" Empower you to take control of your health with confidence Because the right support can change everything. And your healing journey deserves the right connection. https://sahacollective.com/
