This Vanderpump Rules finale was really dumb, like Tom thinks he's a hero, Scheana is a victim of being too good a friend and Lala thinks she did something she absolutely did not. Tackling the hard truth that so many of our votes are actually empty calorie votes. "Empty calorie votes!?!? What in the world is that?" you might ask. It's important to state at the top that it's still important to vote. So, go out and VOTE! But there are several factors that render a vast majority of votes as electoral stuffing for all intents and purposes. It could be due to some voters always going for the Rs or always going for the Ds right down the line and would never even consider the possibility of checking a box for the "other team." There are also districts and states that are so heavily favored for one party or another, that the results are essentially predetermined. But there are some districts and some states and, most importantly, some people that really can swing from one side to another. And that's what decides our elections! So that's what we dive into on this edition of the program. Plus, we address what we can do about it, i.e. How do you persuade the persuadables? Are we looking towards Jesus to provide us the simple comforts of this world or are we genuinely seeking to be fulfilled with what He has to offer? This Sunday, we continue John chapter 6, where we are challenged to live a life grounded in that which is eternal and not the "empty calories" of this world.

The G1 Climax semi finals are set so STRIGGA & Dylan take a look back at the D & D Block finals that created very different emotional reactions and a very controversial match with EVIL and Shingo Takagi that STRIGGA compares to the likewise very controversial Mio Momono vs. Mayumi Ozaki match from Marvelous. The jury is out for The Eastern Lariat on SANADA as champion after the quarterfinals and another match with EVIL. After discussing the three G1 shows and knowing the semi finals, STRIGGA & Dylan lay out their scenarios for the G1 final, the tournament victory and who's going to walk into Wrestle Kingdom as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Things looked obvious before the tournament, then seemed obvious in the quarterfinals and now the obvious choices might not been those they go with.

The Kansas Jayhawks had the best weekend possible, with the football team defeating the Oklahoma State Cowboys to become bowl eligible for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Then on Monday, the basketball team got the best freshman debut in over a decade in a dominant victory.Andy and Kyle break down everything from both games. In football, the Jayhawks got a spectacular performance from Devin Neal and Jason Bean, but there were plenty of other players who stood out. And for the basketball team, Gradey Dick dominated the storylines and stat sheet, but Bobby Pettiford turned in a nice performance, and Jalen Wilson did some of everything. Plus, a couple of brief looks ahead for upcoming games against Texas Tech in football and Duke in basketball.Follow Andy on Twitter: @AndyMitts12Follow Kyle on Twitter: @kyledavis21Follow Blue Wings Rising on Twitter: @bluewingsriseWe want your input on the podcast. Huberman Lab Podcast Notes Key Takeaways Chronic alcohol intake, even at low to moderate levels (1-2 drinks per day or 7-14 per week), can disrupt the brainWhen people drink, the prefrontal cortex and top-down inhibition are diminished and impulsive behavior increases – this is true in the short term while drinking, and rewires circuitry outside of drinking events in chronic drinkers (even those who drink 1-2 nights per week, long term)Damaging effects to the prefrontal cortex and rewiring of neural circuitry are reversible with 2-6 months of abstinence for most social/casual drinkers; chronic users will partially recover but likely feel long-lasting effectsWhen people drink there is a shutdown of the prefrontal cortex and circuits that control memory, then there's a fork in the road: group 1 – people who feel sedated after a few drinks; group 2 – people who do not feel sedated after a few drinks (predisposition to alcoholism)People who start drinking at a younger age (13-15) are more likely to develop dependence, regardless of the history of alcoholism in their family; people who delay drinking to early 20s are less likely to develop dependence even if there's a family historyPeople who drink consistently (even in small amounts i.e., 1 per night) experience increases in cortisol release from adrenal glands when not drinking so feel more stress and more anxiety when not drinkingWith increased alcohol tolerance, you get less and less of the feel good blip and more and more of the pain signaling (so behaviorally you drink more to try to activate those dopamine and serotonin molecules again)The risk of breast cancer increases among women who drink – for every 10 grams of alcohol consumed per day, there's a 4-13% increase in the risk of cancer (alcohol increases tumor growth & suppresses molecules that inhibit tumor growth)Regular consumption of alcohol increases estrogen levels of males and females through aromatizationRead the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgIn this episode, I discuss the physiological effects that drinking alcohol has on the brain and body at different levels of consumption and over time. I also describe genetic differences that predispose certain individuals to alcoholism, binge and habit-drinking. I explain alcohol metabolism in simple terms and how it effectively acts as a poison, leading to cellular stress and damage. I then explain that it impacts neuronal function and changes our thinking and behavior – hallmarks of inebriation. I also discuss how alcohol consumption of different amounts impacts inflammation, stress, neurodegeneration, and cancer risk and negatively impacts the gut microbiome, brain thickness, hormone balance, mood and feelings of motivation. Additionally, I discuss the biology of hangovers and describe science-based strategies to mitigate the severity of a hangover. Since alcohol is one of the most widely consumed recreational substances, this episode ought to be of relevance to everyone. Indeed, even low-to-moderate alcohol consumption negatively impacts the brain and body in direct ways. The goal of this episode is to help people make informed decisions about their alcohol consumption that are in keeping with their mental and physical health goals. Since moving back to Europe, I’ve noticed how much the conversations around me involve other people that aren’t in the room. Something about this is off to me—gossip isn’t something I consume or surround myself with. I don’t like it or find any value in it. But as I started reflecting and thinking about it more, it dawned on me that there are layers to gossip and different ways to experience it. In this episode, I discuss all of these layers—the dangers and negative effects of gossip, but also the necessity of being validated by others and the challenges that come with navigating this fine line. This week we have more sketches about the media - because, of course, this show is made by people in and on the fringes of media and largely, currently, unemployed by it. Resumes available online. We’ve also got episode 2 of The Obscure County Election That Changed Nothing - which also involves the media. It’s almost like I planned what I’m doing. Almost.
If you go to a nutritionist for help with a diet, the first thing they'll likely do is ask you to record what you're eating now and examine it with you. Any diet that's geared towards weight loss (probably) requires you to cut out "empty" calories i.e. processed food that doesn't actually provide nourishment. Anything that you might eat just for the sake of eating it. The same concept applies to every other aspect of life! Nourish yourself with meaningful work and stimulating conversation, and stop eating emotional PopTarts (no offense intended, Kellogg's)!
There's no nutritional value in that soda you keep drinking. Stop buying it so can stop drinking it. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/st-weightloss/support

SUNDAY, APRIL 6th, 2014Ken Elsner, Lead PastorEver gone grocery shopping when you were hungry? Did you find yourself migrating to the junk food aisle? And then, by the time you got home that bag of Salt & Vinegar chips was half gone already? No? Was that just me the other day? Maybe it wasn't chips, but it was something. When we are hungry we want to get fed. We want to have something that tastes good. That feeds the hunger. It's instinctual. Part of us. Built in to our DNA.When it comes to our walk with Jesus, it's a bit different. We may be wired with a big giant spiritual hole in our lives, but our instinct is not to pursue God, it's to pursue everything else but God! We have to work on our journey every day. We have to become aware of what distracts us. What causes us to go the opposite direction. If we aren't aware...we end up in the junk food aisle eating empty calories. 30 minutes later...we're hungry again. Part 1
