From Exodus to Easter: The Lost Plant Medicine of the Bible In this episode of the Roots to Riches podcast, we delve into the fascinating topic of Kaneh Bosm, a term found in Exodus 30:22-25, which many scholars, including Hebrew etymologist Sula Benet, believe refers to cannabis. I, Justin Benton, your host, explore the historical and linguistic evidence suggesting that cannabis was a key ingredient in the holy anointing oil used by Moses and Jesus. We discuss how the mistranslation of Kaneh Bosm to "calamus" in the Greek Septuagint has obscured this truth for centuries. This episode is particularly timely as it coincides with Easter, a period of resurrection and rediscovery. We reflect on how Jesus, the anointed one, used this sacred oil in his healing ministry, emphasizing the holistic and earthy practices of the early church.I also touch on the modern wellness and plant medicine movement, advocating for a return to natural healing methods that align with ancient wisdom. Our mission is to reach a billion people by 2025, promoting both natural and spiritual healing.Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to question traditional narratives, seek the truth, and consider the profound implications of rediscovering Kaneh Bosm. We conclude with a call to action, inviting listeners to share this knowledge and join us in our mission to heal the world. Ask this Episode anything! Timestamps00:00:08 - Introduction to CannabossumDiscussion on the Hebrew origins of the word Cannabossum and its connection to cannabis.00:00:52 - Welcome to Roots to RichesIntroduction to the podcast and its focus on natural healing and success.00:01:14 - Easter and Listener FeedbackReflection on Easter, Good Friday, and listener comments about Cannabossum.00:02:30 - Cannabossum and Its MistranslationExplanation of how Cannabossum was mistranslated in the Bible and its implications.00:03:34 - Time Travel and Historical CuriosityA light-hearted discussion about time travel and the desire to witness Jesus's ministry.00:04:17 - Jesus and the Holy Anointing OilDetails on Jesus's use of the holy anointing oil and its significance.00:05:46 - Cannabis in Modern AmericaOverview of the negative perception of cannabis in America and its historical context.00:07:17 - The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937Discussion on the impact of the Marijuana Tax Act on cannabis and hemp.00:08:17 - The Sacred Ingredient in Anointing OilExploration of the sacred ingredient in the anointing oil and its biblical references.00:09:01 - Prayer and Introduction to the EpisodeA prayer and introduction to the episode's focus on Cannabossum and divine healing.00:10:05 - Jesus's Healing MinistryDiscussion on Jesus's use of anointing oil in his healing ministry.00:11:00 - Easter and ResurrectionReflection on the significance of Easter and the resurrection of lost truths.00:12:08 - Modern Wellness and Plant MedicineConnection between modern wellness movements and ancient plant-based medicine.00:13:00 - The Mission to HealThe podcast's mission to reach a billion people by 2025 and promote natural healing.00:15:01 - The Return of CannabossumDiscussion on reclaiming the use of Cannabossum and its importance.00:16:26 - Closing Remarks and Call to ActionClosing remarks, call to action for listeners, and the signature "heal the world" chant. Subscriber-only episodeA medium told Sandra that her son was stuck in the afterlife because of guilt. Is this realistic?Join us in an enlightening journey into the mysteries of the afterlife and the soul's voyage on the other side. In the first part of our conversation, I examine the role of mediums in giving us insights. I talk about what we know, what we don't know, and what logic tells us.I also delve into the notion of souls feeling guilt and explore the concept of a life review, focusing on growth rather than punishment. You'll hear about how souls might choose to stick around on the earthly plane, and how Father Nathan Castle aids them in their transition into the light.Venturing deeper, I explore near-death experiences, providing comfort to those who've encountered hellish experiences with the assurance that these individuals were eventually removed from them when ready.Wrapping up this fascinating discourse, I reassure you that no one is ever alone in their grief. Benevolent entities are guiding us in the afterlife, ensuring that we are comforted and supported. Recently I watched one on Netflix that covered The Lucie Blackman case which I hadn't heard of, but the story and the way the filmmakers presented it is very well done. This episode is dedicated to the Heart Chakra and how we allow ourselves to feel loved, and be more kind, loving, patient and compassionate towards others. This is what we spoke about during the episodeA presence practice helps you be more loving. When you meditate more, you become more patient, understanding, and empathetic towards others.Do things with no expectation and with detachment. When you're living in fear, then it can mean that your Heart Chakra is blocked. A great way to unblock this is to turn inwards and work on the process of loving yourself.Yoga poses that focus on opening the Heart Chakra counteract sedentary living. To sit at your desk all day or be on your phone with rounded shoulders is not good at all. Inside MerryBody we have a Chakra Masterclass Series where you can learn different Yoga poses, mudras and mantras to open and activate each Chakra. To access these, you need to be a MerryBody member. About This Sermon SeriesMore than ever before, stress about money and the economy is rising at an alarming rate. Our finances are stretched in so many different ways - debt, bills, taxes, savings, retirement, let alone vacation and recreation - that it can feel seemingly impossible to stretch our money far enough to cover it all. Well, what if Jesus has hope for you that even stretches to your bank account? The truth is, He wants more for you than living in an endless paycheck-to-paycheck cycle of fiscal fear and anxiety. He has a better way. In this short series, we'll learn what the Bible says about finances and gain some practical tools that will give us breathing room. This Week's EpisodeA bigger house, a newer car, a nicer wardrobe, fancier furniture…it could be one of these, all of these, or something else entirely, but every one of us - at one time or another - has wanted more than we have. Often, these desires are rooted in the lie that culture tells us that the value of our lives is the sum total of our possessions. But the truth is that our value is not determined by our stuff, and the sooner we fully understand that truth, the sooner we will stop letting our assets dictate our attitudes. This week we explore the hopeful truth that our true worth and meaning is found in Jesus, and who He says we are.Wondering what to do with what you've heard? “We have to accept reality, take responsibility for our emotions, and you will suffer way less when you stop blaming everybody else for everything, and you'll understand the power of your mind.” - Maureen KafkisWhat if we told you we have the solution to all your pain and suffering? Your first thought may be, there is no one solution to ALL suffering, or that this is impossible. However, the solution is quite simple, but without awareness, we create blind spots for ourselves, which is why we continue to suffer. The solution is, living consciously aware of your ego and how it manifests in your day to day life and your thoughts. The thoughts that infiltrate the mind, that have been placed there as a protection mechanism, are the cause of most human suffering. Most of the thoughts we think in a day have nothing to do with reality, but are just a perception created to protect our egos. So what happens when you can see your thought pattern as an outsider looking in, could you find how you have been filtering your reality in a way that has created suffering for you? This question requires a lot of contemplation, but what we can safely say is that it probably has. The ‘how' is up to you to find out. The ego gets a bad rep but it's not all bad, the difference is just our awareness of it. The ego helps us in many ways, but can cause great suffering if we choose to stay in the dark. What we want to help you uncover in today's episode is that the ego can be used as a tool to help evolve and propel yourself forward to become a better version of yourself. To help unpack the ego, we have invited Maureen Kafkis. Maureen is a life coach whose focus is to help others live consciously, and she joins us to discuss how our subconscious thought patterns manifest in our lives, where they come from, and how we can become aware of them to change our reality.Tune in to hear more about how you can change your thoughts and be on your way to harnessing your ego for your benefit!Topics discussed in this episode:Why Maureen picked ego as a topic for today's episodeA thought filter Maureen created for herself at a young ageHow Eckhart Tolle changed Maureen's lifeWhat triggered Maureen's sense of awarenessHow thought filters lead to egoHow the ego manifests in our livesWhy the ego has a bad repWhere the ego comes fromHow brain filters aren't so bad and cannot be avoidedWhat does it mean to live consciouslyHow to use the ego to improve ourselvesHead to Apple Podcasts to listen to Maureen's podcast, ‘The Brain BS Podcast', to learn more on how you can learn how to live consciously! To learn more about character building qualities to become your true self, visit our website here!Head to Apple Podcasts to hear more episodes.Connect with Java:FacebookEmailInstagramLinkedInTwitter

Jumping off of last week's conversation, Jenn takes us on a deep dive through triggers. Of course events and holidays are one thing but what if you always eat a snack at 3pm or can't go to the movies without thinking about movie theater popcorn? It's ALL HERE. And maybe your solution to foods that trigger you is to simply not have them in your home. That can work, sure, but  Jenn advises we eventually want to move past that. Better yet, she helps us with HOW to do it. Then it's all about emotional triggers and what we can do to make it easier on ourselves. This might be an episode you listen to in parts and then again a couple times. In our work and in our living, we must recognize that difference is a reason for celebration and growth, rather than a reason for destruction.Audre LordeMy time with Jewelle dates back to my childhood. She is my first cousins oldest sisters wife. Family.  We haven't seen each other much over the years, but her memory of cheetah filled black femme elegance radiates out from her every pore. Jewelle's work surpasses the landscape of activist, witch, renegade, original. She had no trouble choosing the death card. It came naturally to them, it was what was inherently something they had leaned into. Being raised by her Great-Grandmother, growing up with her ancestral wisdom ran through her veins. Jewelle has lived 71 rotations around the sun, and is the first elder I have had the sincere privilege of recording for this episodeA historical fiction writer and feminist futurist, Jewelle has written 8 books, and The Gilda Stories has been in print for almost 30 years. Their work in the LGBTQ community is vast, from being present for the Stonewall Riots to marriage equality. She grew up around social movements such as the civil rights movement, black power movement, anti war movement. The roots of social activism were a daily part of life's experience. She enjoys reflecting on periods of herstory, and bringing light from other generations. What We Talk AboutHow mythology informs who we areWorking with Audre Lorde as her mentor (how she gave feedback to the Gilda Stories) Aurdre Lorde QuotesAffinity to James BaldwinNo one is your saviorWisdom from 1883 Show LinksLesbian Self WritingGilda Stories Nancy BereanoAurdre Lorde QuotesNew Play ExchangeAfropunk Article Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/thewitchesmuse)

This week i am so excited to bring you another episode on the topic on animism. We explore none other than the Evenki people of northern Asia. They are a facsinating look at Animism in play. So we take a lot of the topics we talked about last episode and look at how it applies to the Evenki people."Everything you hear about shamanism, well... The Evenks have it in abundance" - Damon SmithThere is a lot in this episode specifically on the Evenks and their Shamanism aswell. Animistic peoples are mistreated to the extreme. The Evenks had to endure tremendous hardships at the hands of invaders. Its especially interesting to see how cunning the Evenks were in evading the Christian forces for as long as possible. All of this and more is covered in this weeks episode of the Woven Energy podcast on ShamanismThings covered in this episodeA close look at the Evenki people, reindeers, their Shamanism and AnimismThe word 'Shaman' and where it comes fromHow Animism moves from being a hook into the natural world towards faith and beliefHierarchy and what this means in animistic societies

Let me guess...You've read or heard a little bit about Animism. And there is something about what you've read that doesn't quite sit with you.For me... The concept of Animism never made sense. I have a hard time accepting anything that requires me to believe something that, on the surface, is complete nonsense.Maybe you've read that Animism is 'The belief that spirits inhabit rocks and trees etc.'Or even worse... 'the belief in a supernatural power that organizes and animates the material universe.'Does this mean it is a religion? After all, thats what google says... right?"Animism is only a belief system to people who think belief systems are important" - Damon SmithWhat is Animism?Imagine you are a anthropologist. You approach animist societies wanting to find out what they believe. You make the assumption that Animism societies have beliefs to begin with.We have beliefs so why shouldn't they?In fact we place so much emphasis on our beliefs and our belief systems that perhaps... We view other cultures and societies through the lenses of our own cultural baggage. And here lies the problem.A fundamental problem in trying to understand what Animism is. Or rather, the natural, 'no belief necessary' explanation of what Animism is.Its not that Animist societies believe in this crazy 'animism' thing. Its that on a fundamental level, we asked the wrong questions due to our cultural biases. All this is covered in the episode.Things covered in this episodeA good look at animistic societiesThe three main activities of animistsHow animist societies moved towards pastoral and agricultural societiesThe effects of religion on animism and why spreading faith and belief among the people kept the powers that be at the top.We also discuss what Animism actually is.What it represents as a real phenomena in the real world. You will not need to believe anything and you certainly won't need to have faith. Its a real thing... a tangible thing that's the same thing wherever you find it.Listen to the episode to find out exactly what Animism is.At the end of the episode, I ask Damon for one simple piece of solid advice. Advice he could give to people just venturing into the world of Shamanism and Animism so you don't mess up.His response is quite simple... profound so stick around to hear it.
