This week, we welcome Francis Lucille to the show, a renowned teacher of the nondual understanding, who has dedicated his life to helping individuals uncover the ultimate truth of consciousness and reality. Drawing from decades of exploration and teaching, Francis shares insights on some of the following topics: — The ultimate purpose of human life — Why happiness is our natural state — How psychological suffering stems from a belief in separation — Why saying “yes” to life aligns us with consciousness. And more. You can learn more about Francis's work and teachings at https://francislucille.com. --- Francis Lucille is a spiritual teacher in the tradition of Advaita Vedanta. A longtime friend and disciple of Jean Klein whom he met in 1975, he was a friend of Robert Linssen, Wolter Keers, Yvan Amar, William Samuel and Robert Adams. He was also influenced by J. Krishnamurti, Krishna Menon and Wei Wu Wei, whom he knew personally. Many contemporary Advaita teachers have attended his teaching events. Francis transmits the ancient teaching of nonduality, the common ground of Advaita Vedanta, Ch'an Buddhism, Zen, Taoism and Sufism. Francis' teachings are not “Neo-Advaitic” but traditional, which means that the experience of our true nature has been transmitted from generation to generation by a lineage of sages. They reflect those of his guru: appreciation for humor, art, music, and poetry, intellectual rigor with a “personal” twist due to his training in Mathematics and Physics, and emphasis on the body and its feelings. --- Interview Links: — Francis' website - https://francislucille.com

Rupert Spira provides a profound exploration of non-dualism, addressing fundamental questions about our true nature and the essence of existence. Beginning with the inquiry “Who Are You, Really?” Spira guides us through a journey that challenges our habitual thoughts and beliefs, encouraging a deeper connection to our being. He delves into our inherent longing for happiness and the qualities of awareness that shape our experience. As he explains how the universe separates itself to know itself, he highlights the implications for morality and our relationships, viewing them as containers for growth and understanding. Spira also discusses the transformative journey of enlightenment, the different types of meditation, and the potential pitfalls of spiritual ego. This exploration not only sheds light on the nature of thoughts but also offers practical guidance to embody your true self, making it a must-watch for anyone seeking deeper understanding and fulfillment in life. At the age of seventeen he learnt to meditate, and began a twenty-year period of study and practice in the classical Advaita Vedanta tradition under the guidance of Dr. Francis Roles and Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the north of India. During this time he immersed himself in the teachings of P. D. Ouspensky, Krishnamurti, Rumi, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta and Robert Adams, until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, in 1997. Francis introduced Rupert to the Direct Path teachings of Atmananda Krishna Menon, the Tantric tradition of Kashmir Shaivism (which he had received from his teacher, Jean Klein), and, more importantly, directly indicated to him the true nature of experience. Rupert lives in the UK and holds regular meetings and retreats in Europe and the USA. We all want to feel a sense of inner peace and happiness. The problem is we tend to equate happiness with things out there – like success, accumulation, approval etc. In reality, happiness is our deepest nature, and so typically people are looking in the wrong direction. My guest is Francis Lucille – a teacher of Advaita Vedanta or non-duality, whose most well known student is Rupert Spira, who is of course a previous guest on the show. This episode is deep – and we do challenge some widely held beliefs. For instance, the idea that we all have our own separate consciousiness. Yes, our thoughts, feelings and experiences ARE different. But there is no evidence that the consciousness that KNOWS our thoughts, feelings and experiences is not in fact the same consciousness. The implication of this possibility is profound, as we discuss in this episode. While Francis and I see eye to eye on many things, our view of the power of self-inquiry is different, as in my view it is the most powerful practice anyone can do to awaken. We do discuss that and much more besides – and if nothing else, this episode should open you to the possibility of seeing yourself, other people and reality at large very differently ** My book Champion Thinking: How To Find Success Without Losing Yourself draws on some of my favourite interviews over the last six years. In it, I seek to challenge our ideas about 'success', and where peace, joy and fulfilment are truly to be found. 'This book captures the magic of being in flow . . . In this episode, author and broadcaster Simon Mundie moderates a delightful conversation with Rupert and Francis Lucille. They discuss a wide range of topics including non-duality, its implications, the similarities and differences between Rupert's and Francis's approach, and how their relationship evolved from one of student and teacher to one based on friendship. They delve into their histories and influences, their different styles and ways of expressing the non-dual understanding, and various aspects of fundamental reality. They also explore enlightenment, the ‘hard problem of consciousness', and the projection of perfection onto those who are considered to be so-called spiritual teachers. In fact, the two assert that rather than being considered teachers, that people view them as friends sharing truth with friends.

Today's episode is a conversation, and I'm speaking with the renowned teacher Rupert Spira. Rupert has been a spiritual practitioner since the age of 15. He began with Advaita Vedānta, as well as Sufi teachings, but the pivotal turning point in his spiritual life was meeting Francis Lucille, who introduced him to the Direct Path teachings of Ātmānanda Krishna Menon and the teachings of Tantric Shaivism, which Francis had received from his teacher, Jean Klein. Rupert is the author of You Are the Happiness You Seek and many other short books. He lives in Oxford, where I was fortunate to meet with him face to face, although the conversation you'll hear today was recorded remotely. Rupert holds regular meetings in the UK, US and Italy, as well as online webinars and Retreats at Home. I personally find his long-form guided meditations to be amongst the most powerful and well-crafted guided meditations available anywhere, especially those in his audio download called Transparent Body, Luminous World, which is inspired (in part) by the Vijñāna-bhairava-tantra. (During the recording of this episode we experienced some audio issues. Kindly bear with us as we learn the art of podcasting. We've already made significant improvements for subsequent episodes.) In her final episode for the Awareness Podcast, Jenny talks with Joost Vanhove about his spiritual journey which involved exploration of a very wide range of ideas, methods and teachings. His keen interest in spirituality was initiated by repeated childhood experiences of expansion and oneness. It wasn't until his teens that by chance he discovered the writings of a 14th Century Belgian mystic which confirmed for him the reality of what he had experienced.Joost describes and gives examples of the way language influences our thought processes. Jenny and Joost discuss the role of language in the spiritual path and difficulties and pitfalls in trying to understand the ancient texts and the writings of non-living sages. We agree that much more can be transmitted in face-to-face communication with a living teacher.Joost goes on to share how over a long period he came to create his self-development model using ideas from many different traditions and from friends on the spiritual path. He describes the meaning and content of the four pillars of this model – Perception, Acceptance, Vision, Action. We discuss how this fits with the Direct Path teaching of his teacher, Francis Lucille, and the principle of living in not-knowing.If you've enjoyed Jenny Beal, we invite you to join her live for her new weekly sessions: The Path to Understanding, exclusively in our Evolve Community. Ellen Emmet is a psychotherapist, facilitator of Authentic Movement, and offers meetings in The Awakening Body: Yoga meditations in the tradition of non-duality and Kashmir Shivaism that she learnt from her teachers Francis Lucille and Eric Baret. She offers webinars and residential retreats. Her offering is an exploration of our true nature at the level of tactility and feelings, but also an inquiry into the hidden corners of the psyche to invite more wholeness into our lives. More specifically, The Awakening Body meetings focus on the body, “allowing it to be our mirror and our pathway, our prayer and our altar, and ultimately the shining expression of this shared identity.” Our conversation explores the complex topic of nonduality and the shadow. Ellen's growing intuition matched my own, that nondual teachings can often be used as a way to escape difficult emotions or feelings, or even disown the body, and overlook or avoid the shadow. With training in Jungian philosophy, including working directly with Jungian analyst Marion Woodman, Ellen brings wisdom and openness to exploring this oversight. Topics include connecting to the wisdom of the body, relational alchemy, the pain of separation, nonduality as a hiding place, ever-present nature of peace, the path of devotion, the role of the divine feminine, and ways to avoid ego inflation. In this episode, Marc describes how he became a mindfulness trainer and life coach and then went on to explore his true nature more deeply, initially with Jan Geurtz, a non-dual teacher specializing in love and relationships, and later with Rupert Spira and Francis Lucille.During the Covid pandemic he went deeply into what he really knew for himself. Understanding the non-dual teaching is a starting-point, but it takes courage to really live as consciousness, with no ground beneath your feet.Marc has a serious and incurable medical condition called ‘restless legs syndrome' which causes chronic lack of sleep. In this edition of the Awareness podcast, Ann McIlraith describes her journey to the non-dual understanding through exploration of the body. She explains how T'ai Chi brings a feeling of openness and transparency of the body. The body can teach us so much, and T'ai Chi takes you beyond the body.Jenny and Ann discuss how the practice of T'ai Chi relates to the investigation of the body that Francis Lucille teaches, and the discovery of our borderlessness through which the feeling of separation that resides in the body dissolves. Ann describes how in group work, the sense of being contained in a physical body disappears and you are experiencing the energy field in which all the physical bodies are moving. It's a way of transcending the body while inhabiting it.“When you're feeling that your heart will burst with joy, when you're feeling love, or beauty, when something touches you completely – that's it. In this episode, Francis describes what it means ‘to live in not-knowing' and explains the distinction between non-duality and non-dualism. We discuss the different ways in which we can approach the hidden knowledge of awareness. After the first stage in which we discover the absolute reality of pure consciousness, Francis explains why it is essential to recognise that this one reality shines as this world. That's the only way to be stable in this understanding. Otherwise, we feel nostalgia for the state of pure awareness, and then there is suffering. We went on to discuss practice. Francis explained that after having a first glimpse of the truth, it's a life-time assignment. The goal is happiness. Practice converges with life. You don't stop the practice when you are enlightened. After enlightenment, you practice all the time. But it's important to make sure your practice comes from love and enthusiasm. Otherwise you stay on the path of self-improvement for lifetime after lifetime. In this Living in Not-Knowing podcast, the sculptress Maureen Thienpont describes how a traumatic event in her life awakened and clarified her understanding that there is more to each of us than just a body-mind. She explains how the events of life itself have guided her towards an ever-deeper recognition of the unity of self with all that exists, and led her to her teacher, Francis Lucille. Her work as an artist producing sculptures from stone is underpinned by not-knowing. She is guided towards a stone, without knowing why. And when she starts to work with the stone she has no idea what form will emerge. We discuss the importance of approaching life without expectations and surrendering to what is. When intuition and connection are not flowing, she leaves the stone until the right moment arises, which may be as much as a year later. To do otherwise would be disrespectful. She gives examples of how she applies this same approach of openness, trust and intuition, to helping friends who are in difficulties.Learn more about the The Awareness Podcast and access show notes for every episode at: www.teachersofgod.org/podcastLearn more about The Teachers of God Foundation at: www.teachersofgod.org Original music by OmasharLearn more about the The Awareness Podcast and access show notes for every episode at: www.teachersofgod.org/podcastLearn more about The Teachers of God Foundation at: www.teachersofgod.org Original music by Omashar

In this Living in Not-Knowing podcast with Jenny Beal, Rachna Chowla describes her spiritual journey from a traditional Vedanta school, via the Buddhist tradition of the Dalai Lama and the poetry of Rumi, to arrive at the Direct Path teaching of Rupert Spira and Francis Lucille. It was through this teaching that she discovered how love and beauty can become an integral part of our spiritual life. She goes on to discuss how the non-dual understanding has influenced both her practical life as a doctor and her creative life as a poet, and the changes that have occurred in her approach to difficult circumstances. I'm not gonna lie, it was deeply confronting for me at times and a little bit like a personal one-to-one session, but ultimately really beautiful. Rupert said something I can't stop thinking about since our recording, he said that: The most important thing we can do as parents is to model how we handle emotions and that that's way more powerful than anything we could ever teach or say. So whether you are deep into a spiritual quest or you have absolutely no idea what to expect from this chat, I think by the end you're gonna be left with a feeling of calm. My intention with this episode is to tap into curiosity, open-mindedness and wonder - Those can be powerful qualities - asking yourself what if I tried this, what would I experience? What would that be like? As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. Get early access to our latest psychology lectures: http://bit.ly/new-talks5 In this talk, Rupert Spira will explore the perennial, non-dual understanding that lies at the heart of all the great religious and spiritual traditions: reality is a single, infinite and indivisible whole whose nature is consciousness or spirit. Central to this understanding is the recognition of the nature of consciousness, which has been described in the Tantric tradition of Kashmir Shaivism as ‘the greatest secret, more hidden than the most concealed of things, and yet more evident than the most obvious of things'. Rupert will suggest that the overlooking of the nature of consciousness is the root cause of suffering within individuals, conflicts between communities and nations, and the degradation of our environment and that its recognition must, therefore, be the basis of a new paradigm that restores well-being to individuals and peace to our communities. --- Rupert Spira was deeply interested in the nature of reality and the source of lasting peace and happiness since his early age. Ellen's deepest intuition was confirmed when she met her teacher, Francis Lucille. In his presence, she recognized the eternal, limitless and universal nature of our shared reality. Over many years, her understanding has continued to deepen and to touch all levels of experience. At the same time, she has never ceased exploring her individual journey, always curious to live at the interface between the very personal trajectory of her life and the pure intimacy of Presence. More and more, she senses that each of our lives is a path of revelation and integration, (including its darker crossings), through which the face of truth can shine uniquely and anew, wedding us to our direct experience of Awareness and connecting us to the great family of creation. https://www.ellenemmet.com/

Mandee and Avi discuss the difference between "natural" and "normal." The conversation flows naturally from discussion about honesty, freedom, and relaxation, to the importance of not taking ourselves to seriously. What's the difference between knowing something in the mind and feeling it in my being? What is the relationship I want to have with my mind? These questions answered and so much more.Bio:Mandee Labelle has been sharing her love of yoga and meditation through teaching, writing, and radio since 2001.The search for truth, happiness, and well-being lit like a fire in Mandee during a 6-month motorcycle tour of India in her early 20s. Upon returning to Canada, she dove into the study of Psychology at McGill University. She enjoyed her studies, but upon graduation, was left with only more questions than any real answers. Continuing the search, she became intrigued by meditation and explored Zen through the teachings of Albert Low, and it was when she discovered Yoga that this quest began to burn even brighter. Yoga captured her interest with an enthusiasm which has not yet, to this day, subsided. She then met yoga master teacher, David Goulet, founder of the Chakra Yoga Center, and through his teacher training program her world opened up to the richness of the yogic tradition that went well beyond the physical practice. David's teacher was Dr. Swami Gitananda, who taught with a powerful blend of modern science and medicine, and ancient wisdom of the chakras drawn from the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana (circa 1500AD). David's Chakra Yoga Teacher Training program was life changing and consisted of a comprehensive study of energy, the body, the mind, and the universe through nine different forms* of Yoga. She graduated from the program in 2001 and has been teaching yoga and meditation ever since.Teaching came naturally and there was no shortage of opportunities in schools, community centers, privately, to government agencies, the military, school teachers, nurses, even Ninjas! Through her work, she was able to witness right before her eyes exactly what she had been looking for--something that was having a real impact on the lives and well-being of people. And furthermore, through this profession came the opportunity to keep studying, learning, and practicing as a complete lifestyle. After 10 years, the urge to search arose again, and she found herself flipping through a catalogue of workshops being offered at Omega in Rhinebeck NY. Not knowing what she was looking for, she turned the page and there was an image of a man in the catalogue that she had never seen before, but the moment she saw him, something happened. It was like her body became filled with light and a sense of trust that she had never known. As if in a dream, she signed up to attend his retreat called Eternity Now.Driven by the unknown, she packed and made the long journey by car from Nova Scotia to NY and from the moment she met Francis Lucille, her life changed. It was as if she had found answers to questions she didn't know she had and there was a lightness of being that was revealed. It was as if all the spiritual traditions started to glow with understanding. Yoga itself was illuminated in it's deeper potential, and what followed for the next 10 years has been a process of clarification and embodiment of understanding that ever-continues.Links: Yogaheart website: https://yogaheart.ca/Would you like to be notified when we release new content? When Bill Free sat down with spiritual teacher Francis Lucille to discuss what it means to live the non-dual understanding, he did not expect that they were going to be talking about the Holy Spirit. However what unfolded was a fascinating conversation about the importance of how we define terms, the self-evidence of awareness and what Francis calls the greatest revelation.Learn more about the The Awareness Podcast and access show notes for every episode at: www.teachersofgod.org/podcastOriginal music by Omashar
Rupert Spira came across the poetry of Rumi at the age of fifteen, in 1975, and soon after this met his first teacher, Dr. Francis Roles, at Colet House in London. Dr. Roles was himself a student of Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the North of India. Under his guidance Rupert learnt mantra meditation and was introduced to the classical system of Advaita, or non-duality, which formed the foundation of his interest and practice for the next twenty-five years. At the same time he also learnt the Mevlevi Turning, a sacred Sufi dance of movement, prayer and meditation. During this time he read everything available by the Russian philosopher P. D. Ouspensky and learnt Gurdjieff's Movements. In the late 1970s he attended Krishnamurti's last meetings at Brockwood Park, close to his childhood home, and was deeply impressed and influenced by his intellectual rigor and fierce humility. Throughout these years Rupert also studied the teachings of Ramana Maharshi and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj on a continuous basis. In the same year that he discovered the poetry of Rumi, Rupert saw a retrospective exhibition of a well-known studio potter, Michael Cardew, at Camberwell Arts Centre in London, an event which was to change the course of his life. Already disenchanted with the scientific path on which he had embarked, he found that pottery provided a new avenue of exploration and experience, and one that was completely consistent with the questions evoked by his encounter with the non-dual understanding. As a result, in 1977 Rupert left school and enrolled in the Ceramics Department of West Surrey College of Art and Design, under Henry Hammond. In 1980 he moved to Wenford Bridge in Cornwall, where he lived and worked with Michael Cardew, then aged eighty, for the last two years of his life. Rupert once said that he was completely re-educated during the time he spent with these two founding fathers of the British Studio Pottery Movement, combined with his regular attendance at Colet House. In 1983 Rupert opened his own studio, and over the next thirty years he made pieces that are to be found in private and public collections around the world. A turning point in the mid-1990s led Rupert to the American teacher Robert Adams, who died two days after Rupert arrived in the US. However, on this visit he was told about another teacher, Francis Lucille, whom he met several months later. The first words he ever heard Francis say were, ‘Meditation is a universal “Yes” to everything'. Although it was the kind of statement anyone might encounter on the spiritual path, this moment was pivotal in Rupert's life: ‘I realised that I had arrived home, that this encounter was the flowering and fulfilment of my previous thirty years of seeking'. When Rupert asked at that first meeting what he should do next, Francis replied, ‘Come as often as you can'. Over the next twelve years Rupert spent all the spare time that work and family commitments would allow with Francis, exploring the sense of separation as it appears in the mind in the form of beliefs and, more important, how it appears in the body as feelings of being located and limited. Francis also introduced Rupert to the Direct Path teachings of Atmananda Krishna Menon and the Tantric approach of Kashmir Shaivism, which he had received from his teacher, Jean Klein. Of the essence of these years, Rupert writes, ‘The greatest discovery in life is that our essential nature does not share the limits or the destiny of the body and mind. I do not know what it is about the words, actions or presence of the teacher or teaching that seem to awaken this recognition of our essential nature as it truly is, and its subsequent realisation in our lives, but I am eternally grateful to Francis for our friendship.' Rupert lives in Oxford, UK, with his wife, Ellen Emmet, a therapist and yoga teacher in the non-dual tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, and his son, Matthew. He holds regular meetings in the UK, US, Netherlands and Italy, as well as online webinars and Retreats at Home.
How to truly uncover lasting happiness can seem like a lofty or impossible goal. But somehow, Rupert Spira makes it seem not just possible, but as clear as glacier water. I've wanted him on the show for a long time now, and I'm excited to share this incredible conversation. We dig into non-duality, the nature of time, the beauty of simple awareness, and what all the great spiritual traditions of the world were pointing to. Rupert Spira is an English teacher of the "direct path", a method of spiritual self-inquiry through talks and writing, and a notable English studio potter with work in public and private collections. Spira was deeply interested in the nature of reality from an early age. By age 17 he was studying meditation and practicing a classic Indian method of spiritual inquiry called Advaita Vedanta. He has studied with Dr. Francis Roles, Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya in, and is steeped in the wisdom of thinkers and mystics such as P. D. Ouspensky, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Rumi, Sri Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta, and Robert Adams. In 1997, Francis Lucille trained Rupert in the Direct Path teachings of Atmanada Krishna Menon and the Tantric approach of Kashmir Shaivism, which he had received from his teacher, Jean Klein. Rupert regularly holds meetings and retreats worldwide, exploring non-dual teachings from a diverse array of sources: Advaita Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism, Hinduism, Buddhism, mystical Christianity, Sufism, and Zen. He is the author of 8 books, including The Transparency of Things – Contemplating the Nature of Experience, The Ashes of Love, The Nature of Consciousness and The Essence of Meditation. Want to find Monica Loren? Follow her at @monicaloren, and visit her site HERE Want to find me? Follow me at @savage.practices and visit my site HEREA note from Monica Loren...I was born and raised in Los Angeles to Buddhist parents. This upbringing created a space for an open mind and heart from the beginning. I even took Kundalini yoga as my P.E. class in High School. Alternative thinking and the Healing Arts have been a normal part of my life from the start. I have always had a passion for deep transformation work and helping others connect to their heart and change their lives. I got into transformation and relationship coaching because I needed to take a deeper look at all the pain and trauma I experienced as a child. My father was a severe alcoholic who was either living on the streets or in a sober living home my entire childhood. This created deep wounding for me. I attracted all kinds of chaos and dysfunctional relationships because I believed I was not worthy of love. This was rooted in my father not showing up for me and being highly toxic. In 2008, I finally hit breaking point with all the chaos (I numbed myself with partying, alcohol and toxic codependent relationships) I was experiencing and went back to Kundalini Yoga. After having a profound emotion release experience in my Kundalini Yoga Training program, I knew there was a deep connection between pains, patterns, relationships and trauma/pain/emotions in the body. The day I graduated Kundalini Yoga, I enrolled in an Energy / Trauma Healing School and never looked back. I began my Transformation practice in 2009 and have been helping others heal their childhood pain and trauma ever since I'm no stranger to pain, suffering, depression, fear, and anxiety. I spent most of my life struggling with addictions, and my own journey of healing and transformation has been anything but smooth. But I can tell you, I know from my own experience that there is a greater opportunity in life. An opportunity to find a true, authentic, grounded state of peace and happiness that isn't dependent on success or failure or how many possessions we can acquire. Having gone through my own personal journey of healing and transformation, I find nothing more rewarding than to see people transform in front of my eyes, to watch years of conditioning, trauma, and pain melt away. I've found that we all do truly have a unique gift, a talent that serves and uplifts those around us.My own gift lies in an ability to be present and listen and feel each person in a way that allows the true being underneath all the stories to show itself. I am also a Certified Conversational Hypnotherapy Practitioner from the Sussex Hypnotherapy Center. I have studied from acclaimed coaching schools like Coaching Training Institute and The School of Coaching Mastery along with certifications in Relationship Coaching from Udemy. I have studied David Deida, John Wineland and metaphysics and eastern philosophy/health and wellness since my early youth. I have studied with Non-Dual (Advaita) teachers such as Francis Lucille and Wayne Liquorman. My influences are from the works of Byron Katie, Marianne Williamson, Abraham-Hicks and Eckhart Tolle to name a few. My work and passion in life is to be of service and to listen deeply to the needs of my clients. I come into each session with the purest intent to allow the most potent transmission to be channeled for each beautiful soul that is called to work with me. PS. You know what would be so dope? If you left us a 5 star review wherever you listen. Did you dig this episode? Oh good. Will you share it with your people?I would be over the moon with gratitude. Welcome to another podcast of ‘Here's Tom with the Weather'...where we investigate the plethora of Higher powers that populate the vast universe of Recovery - particularly where the founders of AA encourage us to find some kind of higher power – as long as it's not us....for example in 3rd Step of the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 STEP programme where it states ‘MADE A DECISION TO TURN OUR WILL AND OUR LIVES OVER TO THE CARE OF GOD, AS WE UNDERSTOOD HIM' and also to the 11th Step where it states‘sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood him, praying only knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out'We speak to people with all manner of higher powers - from those who are atheists, sufis, agnostics, Christians, Buddhists, Followers of Islam, Paganists, AND...those who subscribe to NON-DUALITY...we leave no stone unturned...its our aim to promote understanding and open-mindedness so that alcoholics and addicts can find a higher power of their own to stay sober and carry the message. Please remember that this is not an AA meeting...its just some people's version of the truth – whatever that may be.Sometimes we talk to seekers, to gurus and to people not necessarily in recovery...such as Rupert Spira... He also speaks about the observer, consciousness and awareness, our mind patterns; shares how to remain in the infinite presence of awareness, and how to deal with attachment and clinging. During the conversation, we also discuss about spiritual bypassing, the concept of the ego, fear of death, and how non duality speaks about God, the concept of good and bad, and useful insights on how to deal with fear and emotions in this present times. Podcast: This week on The Mystical Positivist, we feature a conversation pre-recorded on February 28th, 2020 with Rupert Spira. From an early age Rupert Spira was deeply interested in the nature of reality. At the age of seventeen he learnt to meditate, and began studying and practicing the teachings of the classical Advaita Vedanta tradition under the guidance of Dr. Francis Roles and Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the north of India, which he continued for the next twenty years. During this time he immersed himself in the teachings of P.D.Ouspensky, Krishnamurti, Rumi, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta, and Robert Adams, until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, in 1997. Francis introduced Rupert to the Direct Path teachings of Atmanada Krishnamenon; Jean Klein and the tantric tradition of Kashmir Shaivism; and, more importantly, directly indicated to him the true nature of experience. In his meetings, Rupert explores the perennial, non-dual understanding that lies at the heart of all the great religious and spiritual traditions, such as Advaita Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Mystical Christianity, Sufism, Zen etc., and which is also the direct, ever-present reality of our own experience. This is a contemporary, experiential approach involving silent meditation, guided meditation and conversation, and requires no affiliation to any particular religious or spiritual tradition. All that is required is an interest in the essential nature of experience, and in the longing for love, peace and happiness around which most of our lives revolve. Rupert is author of: The Transparency of Things – Contemplating the Nature of Experience (2008); Presence, in two volumes – The Art of Peace and Happiness and The Intimacy of All Experience (2012); The Light of Pure Knowing – Thirty meditations on the Essence of Non-Duality (2014); The Ashes of Love (2016); Transparent Body, Luminous World – The Tantric Yoga of Sensation and Perception (2017); The Nature of Consciousness – Essays on the Unity of Mind and Matter (2017); and The Essence of Meditation Vol. I – Being Aware of Being Aware (2017). He is also a notable English potter and studio potter with work in public and private collections. Rupert Spira will be LIVE STREAMING his upcoming Mercy Center Retreat from March 20th - 27th, 2020. Vimalakirti, was a very wise lay practitioner who lived at the time of the Buddha. In reply to the question: “What is the Bodhisattva's Gate to the One and Only?” his response was silence. Silence is synonymous with nonduality. This is a guided meditation commenting on a short text on “Silence”, by a twentieth century nondual teacher called Jean Klein. Jean Klein was not in the Buddhist tradition. He was in a different tradition, Kashmir Shaivism. His lineage is quite influential in the west. One of his students, who now teaches, was a man called Francis Lucille, and Francis Lucille was the teacher of Rupert Spira.
Rupert Spira is a pre-eminent non-dual teacher. At an early age he was deeply interested in the nature of reality. At 17 he learned to meditate and began a 20-year period of study and practice in the classical Advaita Vedanta tradition. During this time he immersed himself in the teachings of P.O. Ouspensky, Krishnamurti, Rumi, Ramana Maharshi, and others until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, in 1997. There he was introduced to what is known as the Direct Path. Spira lives in the United Kingdom and holds regular meetings and retreats in Europe and the United States. He is the author of many books and audio programs including: Presence, Volume I: The Art of Peace and Happiness and Presence (Sahaja Publications 2016) , Presence, Volume II: The Intimacy of All Experience (Sahaja Publications 2016), The Transparency of Things: Contemplating the Nature of Experience (Sahaja Publications 2016)Tags: Rupert Spira, nondualism, non-dualism, awareness, perception, non-duality, fear, shame, regret, presence, presence of awareness, essential being, essential self, open awareness, beliefs, feelings, sense of separation, sense of separateness, activism, activist, Spirituality, Philosophy, Transformation, Science
Greg is a teacher of nondualism well known for a breadth of expression and a sense of humor. Inspired by Sri Atmananda Krishna Menon, Greg is one of the pioneers, along with Jean Klein and Francis Lucille, of "direct path" style nondualism, a very intuitive, holistic and immediate form of Advaita. It was through contemplation on the teachings of Sri Atmananda that Greg's own search came to its peaceful conclusion. Having studied Western philosophy at the Universität zu Köln in Cologne, Germany, Greg received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Rochester. He studied Advaita Vedanta through the Chinmaya Mission, the Mahayana teachings of Pure Land Buddhism through Jodo-Shinshu, and studied Madhyamika Buddhism through the lineage of the pre-eminent scholar of Chinese Buddhism, Master Yin-Shun of Taiwan, P.R.C., author of The Way to Buddhahood: Instructions from a Modern Chinese Master.
