Olympic marathoner Dakotah Popehn joins the show ahead of her highly-anticipated return to the Boston Marathon this April! Most recently, Dakotah came in 10th at the 2025 USATF Half Marathon Championships in a very stacked field. The Puma-sponsored distance runner has had a storied career so far, and does not seem primed to be slowing down any time soon.Dakotah is well-known for her participation in the marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics; she came in 12th with a time of 2:26.44. Her PR in the distance came in 2023 at the Chicago Marathon when she came in 12th with a time of 2:24.40–a time that places her 13th all-time for women U.S. marathoners. Dakotah also has a 1:08 half under her belt.Dakotah's journey began at St. Francis High School in Minnesota, where she ran cross country and track, while also serving as the goaltender on the girls hockey team. She continued her running career at Northern State University in South Dakota, where she was originally a walk-on, but ended up flourishing, coming in sixth in the 10k at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Champs.Dakotah's unheralded rise through the ranks has continued in her professional career: she has won Grandma's Marathon in Minnesota twice and the Eugene Curnow Trail Marathon in Minnesota three times. In today's conversation, Dakotah gives me extensive insights on confidence, delusional belief, how to push through hard days, running 130-mile weeks, her walk-on to the Olympics story, and so much more. "I think about when I was a kid and I would just go out and run hard and not worry about the result or what was the worst thing that could happen. I run my best when I run with the same mindset I had when I was 12." Jackie Gaughan qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in her very first marathon. Lauren Boba Fett was sent to congress by Colorado's 3rd District for a second term because 546 people wanted the rest of the US to see how dumb she was. They didn't want to hog all the stupidity for themselves and thought the national stage was the best place to showcase her world class idiocy. Thanks, Colorado's 3rd district, the following is all your fault - Lauren went on a date to a family friendly musical theater production of "Beetlejuice." She sang, she danced in her chair, and she had a good time as a private citizen in a public space. She decided to party it on up and brought out the vape pen and then engaged in some sexual over the clothes petting with her boyfriend during the show. True, he started it by juggling her breasts but she took things up a notch, or down a notch, way down, and gave him a crotch massage. Not sure how many children were around in the theater to see this behavior, but by now every child in America can see it thanks to the internet. Lauren was thrown out of the theater. Her PR team spun the incident and lied and lied and lied and lied about what happened. Video was released which showed her doing everything her team said she didn't do. Lauren vaped out an apology blaming cameras and her very public divorce and her boyfriend's party affiliation (he's a democrat with no taste). Colorado has yet to apologize but we anticipate a big "we are sorry" in 2024. Political hopefuls are already campaigning against her and who knows, Colorado's 3rd district may elect a pony this time just to prove they can.

If you've been thinking about ways to grow your business, you may be looking at sales funnels, social media posts, TikTok, paid ads, and email campaigns. All of these are legit methods to employ in your strategy for growth, but there is one strategy you'll want to give more attention to after this episode. Public relations (PR) is about managing how others see you and your brand. It's about a strategic communication process that gets you in front of the right people which makes growing your business much easier. “You need PR to get big, you need PR to make money, you need exposure because people can't do business with you if they don't know about you.” Maven Media founder, Christina Nicholson, was a TV reporter and anchor with lots of experience being pitched and given pitches. Her PR skills have landed her on podcasts such as Bossbabe, Entrepreneurs on Fire, Smart and Passive Income with Pat Flynn and so many more. Today we're talking about: The power of PR placement for your business Using social media to pitch When and how to follow up on your pitch How to pitch podcast shows specifically Why PR is about relationship building and connection “Advertising is saying you're good. PR is getting someone else to say you're good.” Putting yourself out there is scary business, but not growing your business is a failing business and it requires maximum exposure. Guesting on podcasts, contributing to articles and local news appearances can do wonders for your business and your brand's credibility. Christina unloads so much value in this interview that you'll want to take notes and start implementing her strategies right away! Here are a few tips Christina shares that are sure to get you noticed and in front of your audience faster. TIP #1: Make it super easy on the person you are pitching to. TIP #2: Create a Media List using a spreadsheet. Create a different tab for each angle you can pitch and start collecting podcasts for that angle with the contact information you need to submit a pitch. Work this spreadsheet for pitches and cycle through with a different topic each time. TIP #3: Write subject lines people will open by making them short, catchy, and relevant to the person and what they do. TIP #4: To pitch a podcast, be very specific about what you do and the tangible results and outcomes for the audience. Include personal elements that touch on their industry or one of the previous episodes TIP #5: Block 2 hours every week to build your media list. Include people that are writing about your industry, active podcast platforms that speak to that industry or genre, and remember to follow and comment on their social media channels. Christina is incredibly raw and candid about the PR business and has a no B.S. approach to the content and information she shares and teaches to others. If you want to check out the exact pitch she submitted to Pat Flynn to get on his podcast, head over to Podcast Clout. “I am a businesswoman with a talent for writing" In this episode of Corporate to Calm we speak with Emma Jane Leeson from @johnnymagoryworld. Emma Jane is a Mum of 3, holder of numerous degrees, an all-rounder when it came to business. Her energy is contagious and she is so passionate about the amazing world she has created. Emma Jane wrote her first book at least ten years before she took the leap to solely focus on Johnny Magory. The funny thing is that it may not have happened had she realised Johnny was a well-known name in many Irish households and not just the figment of her dad's imagination. There was no fear when releasing them, no expectation, just a passion to put on paper the stories from her childhood. "Bord na Mona was the best learning ground, 7 of us looking after 2.5k people. You learned to do everything” Emma Jane gained her business acumen from a variety of sources, starting in what became Top Gifts and then progressing to Bord na Mona. A huge opportunity arose when she started in the Central Bank but she quickly realised it was not for her and after only a couple of months took the risk of leaving this most sought position. Then came Kerry Foods, this is our common ground. Our paths didn't cross but we both knew you earned your stripes at Kerry. "My advice, Write the Book!!" Emma Jane's advice to budding authors is plain & simple – write the bloody book. She is frequently asked for advice and then quickly learns that most are seeking information without having put pen to paper. From the start Emma Jane treated her endeavours like a business with divisions, she may have been the head of all divisions but having different units made it easier to keep track of what there was to do. Sustainability and the outdoors are a huge part of the business. The Johnny Magory World of books are the first to be biodegradable. It's hard to have a lot of merch without plastic but they find a way through. “This is Nickelodeon, not diddle-e-ey” Emma Jane's vision from the start was global, changing the spelling of the name to fit with an American audience. Although printing in Ireland was always a priority and she makes sure this is the case at all costs. Her PR are always delighted when a book comes out as she has a wish list as long as your arm and a determined, clear vision. Emma Jane's advice to any new business is clear, go to your local LEO and tell them you are a business not an author & invest in a virtual assistant. So, grab a cuppa, sit back, relax, walk, go on the treadmill, drive to your meeting, and hopefully enjoy Emma Jane's journey from Corporate to Calm x
Launching A Bestseller and Business During the Pandemic with Lauren Peacock Book launch party in LA...canceled! Multi-city book tour and signings...scrapped! Maybe we can do it during the Summer 2020 when we ‘re-open'? Not a chance! And, yet Lauren Peacock managed to launch a bestselling memoir based on her experience as a millennial divorcee. The overwhelming response to her book and a need she saw in the younger divorced community led her to creating an online community and monthly subscription box business that supports people going through the painful, isolating, and sometimes, eventually comical experiences of divorce and moving beyond it. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover Lauren Peacock, a wildly accomplished Jane-of-All-Trades producer, bestselling author, humorist, and founder of an online community and subscription box business. Learn the details of Lauren's work in entertainment. From her dreams to be on Broadway to being a writer and producer of TV, films, and commercials. Hear Lauren's real life comedy of life getting lost in translation… even though she and her UK-living English husband both speak English! Resources: My first book, Relationship Ready: How I Stopped Fucking Randos and Started Cupcaking My Soulmate, is available on Amazon and Audible. Grab your copy now! Connect with Lauren on Instagram Join The D-Deck Facebook group Check out Lauren's bestselling book Female. Likes Cheese. Comes with Dog.: Stories About Divorce, Dating, and Saying “I Do” Check out and subscribe to The Divorce Case monthly subscription box. Episode Highlights: A Virtual Community to Support the Divorcee Lauren saw a need to have a space where many who go through the intense and often common experiences of divorce at a younger age could support each other. Ending a relationship that has finances, children, building homes and lives together, and a legal bond is different from a heartbreak or breakup. Lauren knew that it is support and community that get us through and beyond divorce. Lauren's Journey as a Producer, Writer, Author, and Creatrix of an Online Community. Lauren started out with aspirations to be on Broadway (her all-time favorite is the classic tap 42nd Street) but was disinterested in the undermining nature of showbiz politics. She still wanted to be a part of entertainment and found her fit as a producer, being a part of all the processes from script reading and casting to final production. With each job, she learned new things to add to her producer's toolbelt that she applied to TV, movies, videos, and commercials. Lauren always loved writing and started with writing regularly in her journal and talking about it with others. After her divorce, she put her funny, painful, and very relatable collection of experiences into her bestselling memoir. What's in the Divorce Case Subscription Box? The Facebook community, The D-Deck, started as a private community and part of the subscription. However, Lauren wanted to offer a valuable resource to help support people during the many challenging experiences of the pandemic. Now it is a closed but public community. The D-Deck is a meaningful way to connect, collaborate, network, and cross-promote within the community. Lauren writes weekly articles on topics around divorce. Lauren also shares suggestions that worked for to help move from divorce to being ok with being alone like travel experiences and destinations. The community offers further value with their own stories and feedback. Lauren designs the monthly box filled with 8-10 thoughtful and meaningful items and notes that she helped her move through and beyond her divorce. Lauren's Process of Writing Her (Bestselling) Memoir Lauren Female. Likes Cheese. Comes with Dog.: Stories About Divorce, Dating, and Saying ‘I Do' She started writing in her journal in the months after her divorce in 2014. She also told her stories when her friends would email her asking, “How are you doing?” Their feedback was that she should put these stories in a book. Lauren didn't take it seriously until she ‘ran away' alone to Europe and made the decision to do it. In 2017, she put her short stories into a narrative form. Pro-tip: Hire an editor! As an independent, self-published writer, the process of putting your story out there is the reward and can be used as the thing that leads to other things...like the second book. Launching a Book at the Beginning of the Pandemic Grand plans for an LA launch party, book tour, and signings were cancelled. Maybe when we ‘re-open' in the summer of 2020? Nope! Her PR got her great online press and TV coverage. Lauren still has secret hopes to do a book tour but the varying restriction across states make it nearly impossible. After an overwhelmingly positive response to her first book, she is now focussed on her second book! Her appearance in widely read magazines like Authority, Bustle, and Hello Giggles has grown her brand In the end, her stories are incredibly relatable and people have connected to them in a deep and meaningful way. For Lauren, that has been the greatest reward. About Lauren Lauren Peacock is a multi-talented creative with great success as an accomplished producer, humorist, author, and founder of an online community and subscription box business. Lauren Peacock has always gravitated towards storytelling. After receiving a BA in communications from Florida's Flagler College, her theater background led her straight to the entertainment industry, where she has worked extensively for the past decade on projects like Joshua Tree , Atlanta's a Drag , and Ladylike , and she has done production work with organizations like GLAAD and the NFL, with many other exciting new projects in the pipeline. A budget-savvy proverbial Jane-of-all-trades , she has worked from script to screen on countless projects and has seen multiple films accepted into prime festivals. Now a bestselling author of "Female. Likes Cheese. Comes with Dog: Stories about Divorce, Dating & Saying I Do" on Amazon who has been featured on NBC, FOX, ABC and the Palm Beach Post, Lauren is currently working on her second book, all while finding a home on the producing team for an upcoming studio docu-series and splitting her time in her home in LA and with her husband in the UK. Stop living as if “here” has no value. “Here” is also a direction, and sometimes it's the most valuable direction that you have.” - Joy Donnell. In this episode, Joy Donnell joins Judithe Registre to highlight creative ways to harness and use the energy and emotion we are all generating naturally through the obstacles and adversaries we encounter every day. Despair is natural to us; you just don't need to let the despair overtake you. - Joy Donnell Joy is a strategist, activist, and entrepreneur driven by purpose. Her PR expertise touches all of her work as she brings her unique insights to content strategy, content creation, and luxury fashion and luxury lifestyle branding. When she isn't behind the camera creating fashion editorials and fashion films as a producer or director, she steps in front of the camera as a model and sustainable luxury advocate. The idea of luxury as a state of mind is something Joy advocates as necessary to cultivate as we creatively engage all of our emotions: anger, frustration, love, and shame. Joy challenges us to engage with ourselves and the journey of our emotion to create beauty in our communities and in the world in general. This powerful awareness can lead to social change and social engagement. This is especially important in a world where we are consuming more information than ever before, As Joy puts it, “true luxury is the absence of angst.” In today's world, “media has become a basic human need.” In other words, how we process and respond to the slew of information we are consuming and producing has never been more critical. If we accept media as a basic human need in our current world, we have to start asking ourselves different questions and demanding more well-rounded narratives. Joy Donnell is currently CEO of Parajin Media Corp and Editor-in-Chief of its flagship luxury lifestyle publication, Vanichi. She also serves as an advisor for The Geekie Awards, the Creative Visions Foundation, and Charles and Company luxury tea Give more oxygen to the knowledge than you give to the noise. - Joy Donnell Connect with Joy and learn more about her and her work via social media and her website details below: FB: @joydonnellofficial IG: @doitinpublic Twitter: @doitinpublic Vanichi FB, Twitter, IG: @vanichimagazin
I had the pleasure of getting to know Maggie last fall when she modeled the exercises for our new strength training program. We spent a few hours at a weight lifting gym called Barbell Strategy in Boulder, CO. Maggie and Addie Bracy (2x Mountain Runner of the Year) demonstrated 40+ exercises and we had a videographer to capture all of the magic. During her time at the University of Arizona, she won the PAC-10 Steeplechase Championship (she'll also tell you that she's twice won her beer in weight!). Her PR for the steeple - one of my absolute favorites - is 10:03 or the equivalent of about 10:45-10:50 for 2-miles (with 30-inch barriers and water jumps). It’s quite impressive. Now, Maggie trains under elite coach Brad Hudson. Brad, as I’m sure you know at this point, is the author of my favorite book on running - Run Faster: How to be Your Own Best Coach From the 5k to the Marathon. If you don’t own this book, go buy it. You won’t regret it. Back to Maggie: just last month she got on the podium at the Arizona RnR Hlaf Marathon, running 1:17:20 for third place. And I'm thrilled she's on the podcast to talk about her running and the benefits of strength training she has personally experienced.
