Chatter rolls with Torie and Jamie.  David's in Paris and Claude is golfing, so Lauren fills in with the important work.  They break down the Olympics (Lauren's not a watcher), read a couple of emails and ponder the huge influence of women on all things books.  COB alum and fave Erica Wright zooms in from Knoxville to share her latest, “Hollow Bones.” Snakes figure prominently again, but so do orphans and psychics and reporters.  Totally gripping. Erica goes local with Union Avenue Books her favorite haunt in the heart of Knoxville.

Whattup doe! Welcome back to another installment of Baltimore County Forever Podcast. We have a friend of the show Aleem’s back!! Of course we have to start the episode with Hov, as he celebrated his 50th birthday this week. Aleem discusses his favorite Hov memory. Then we jump into this week’s playlist. We cover Wu Tang’s “Hollow Bones” first, and Aleem gives me his thoughts on the album this song is featured on and how it compares to the debut album from the group. Then we cover Common ft. Nas “Ghetto Dreams.” We talk on how this collaboration happened in 2011 and if it was long overdue. We also discuss if this song could also fit on a different Common album or a Nas album. Next up is “Kick In The Door” by BIG. We touch on Biggie’s nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 and if he deserves to be inducted based on his limited number of albums.  On the topic of legends, we briefly talk about Wack 100’s comments about Nipsey not being a legend. Other songs that made this week’s discussion were “Hootie Hoo” by Outkast, “Tical” by Method Man, “Shimmy Shimmy” by ODB and a few others. Tune in to hear more!! Leah Kaminsky chats about The Hollow Bones, she is also appearing at the Williamstown Literary Festival in June. ‘I remember you once told me about mockingbirds and their special talents for mimicry. They steal the songs from others, you said. I want to ask you this: how were our own songs stolen from us, the notes dispersed, while our faces were turned away?’ Berlin, 1936. Ernst Schäfer, a young, ambitious zoologist and keen hunter and collector, has come to the attention of Heinrich Himmler, who invites him to lead a group of SS scientists to the frozen mountains of Tibet. Their secret mission: to search for the origins of the Aryan race. Ernst has doubts initially, but soon seizes the opportunity to rise through the ranks of the Third Reich. While Ernst prepares for the trip, he marries Herta, his childhood sweetheart. But Herta, a flautist who refuses to play from the songbook of womanhood and marriage under the Reich, grows increasingly suspicious of Ernst and his expedition. When Ernst and his colleagues finally leave Germany in 1938, they realise the world has its eyes fixed on the horror they have left behind in their homeland. A lyrical and poignant cautionary tale, The Hollow Bones brings to life one of the Nazi regime’s little-known villains through the eyes of the animals he destroyed and the wife he undermined in the name of science and cold ambition.

On November 23, 1993, Native American prophecy was fulfilled when a delegation representing the North American indigenous peoples addressed a gathering at the United Nations. As Spirit had directed, the Native American leaders delivered the prophecies of their spiritual leaders, warning that a long-predicted time of purification was already under way. The tribal leaders urged that we heed The Creator's original instructions to the indigenous peoples and voluntarily return to a more simple, respectful, and harmonious way of living. They warned that should we choose to ignore this message, erratic weather patterns, earth movements, starvation, violence, and war would occur with ever increasing frequency and intensity. When you read the morning paper of watch the evening news, you are witnessing the unfolding of those predicted events. Hollow Bones takes place in a not-too-distant future when the purifying changes predicted by Native American spiritual leaders are well under way. Matthew’s life has unraveled since the death of his wife. Now, with Hope and her young daughter, Lily, he embarks on a journey in search of a new beginning. Along the road, the travelers encounter the harsh realities of a failing culture and the sheltering kindness of strangers whose vivid dreams mark a shared lifetime with Chief Joseph and a two hundred-year-old oath they made to return and fulfill Native prophecies.
