And you know what? That's a perfectly normal response to recovering from a world crisis, going through a cost of living crisis, and dealing with everything else that has been thrown at us over the last few years. I've had my own bouts of overwhelm here and there when balancing building my own tiny home (with zero DIY skills I might add!), running a business, and being in a long-distance relationship. It's normal to not feel like you have the energy to market yourself or your business. To not even feel motivated to work at all. But earning a living is self-care. It's a way we care for ourselves, our families, and our wellbeing. There are times when, yes, you do need to rest. Perhaps even for weeks or months. (Especially if you are suffering with illness or you are burnt out.) But there are also times when you need some self-discipline. When you need to get in touch with the "girlboss" inside you and use her to help you work - even if you're only doing a few hours of work and not a full day. Today, let's talk about this more. (It might be a bit of a controversial episode but I think you'll find it helpful!) Let's discuss: How to discern when you need restvs when you need self-discipline. For me, there are about five things I look for when deciding if a business coach is for me: The results the coach has gotten for themself and their clients/students. The experience they have with the thing I am struggling with or desire. (Little tip though: a coach doesn't need to have achieved the EXACT outcome you desire to help you achieve it. It's great if they have but some of the following points matter more.) Their approach to business. Whether we share similar values. Whether the coach has qualities I could benefit from taking on. How I feel when talking with them. On the free consult call, do they listen or just tell me what to do? Do they guide me in making my own decisions, or make them for me? This podcast episode is a mini-documentary with secret audio messages between Ashley and me (from when she was broken) and a "behind the scenes" look at her journey the past year (in real time, audio, video and private photos.) Ashley took photos and I kept all the evidence from when things were really hard as Ashley went through the Autism Turnaround Program with me and this gives you a rare and unique look into the effort she put into it. Ashley's son's eyes glazed over one day and suddenly, he was "gone" into autism symptoms, tantrums, and meltdowns. He had dark circles under his eyes, he would be throwing things and hitting himself if things didn't go his way.He had no interest in other humans or animals. Ashley and her husband were in denial. Ashley used food to escape (4000 calories per day) and switched between over-consumption and punishment (heavy exercise. When they first heard that autism symptoms don't have to be for life, they tried Nemechek, gluten - and dairy-free diets. It had some effect. But it wasn't until Ashley started working on herself and her own healing that things started to shift for real. Her son is now bonding with animals and other people and smiling. He makes eye contact and loves to touch and look at his family members (he hated it before.)Ashley lost 27 pounds in 2 months without dieting. She stopped stressing, over-performing and feeling numb, and her son is behaving more and more like a typical 4-year-old. The #1 brain hack to start working on that goal you've been putting off... Listen, here's how the brain works: >It wants to keep you comfortable >It uses past data to do so So, when you have a new goal - it uses past data to color that goal. How you get there, if it'll be easy or not, how long it'll take. The #1 brain hack to kick start motivation (and keep going) is... ACTION. Which is HARD when your brain is using PAST data to fill in future results, right? It's telling you that you've tried everything. It's telling you that it's going to take too long. It's telling you that you'll just quit again. It's telling you life is too busy. Because that's what you've done - so it only has that to draw from. Yes, you can visualize all the positive outcomes you want (your brain LOVES that) but when you try to achieve them, it gets uncomfortable (your brain HATES that). Then you fall back on old patterns- this is self-sabotage. So here's what I want you to do: 1 - Name your goal 2 - Write out ANY action you could take, daily, to get you closer to that goal Wade through the ones that your brain says are too hard, and write them down. Hear the brain say "Oh, that's not ENOUGH" for some of your action items, and write them down. Listen when it says "but we've tried that" - and WRITE IT DOWN. Then, pick one to do NOW. I'd argue you should pick the one your brain SCREAMS is NOT enough. The ONLY question we're answering is : "Does this action get me closer to my goal?". If it's a YES (even when it's NOT ENOUGH or TOO SMALL or WON'T MATTER) - then it's a go. Take that half-assed action over and over until it feel too easy. And it's your NEW data so your brain future-paces with THAT data. And repeat. And no, it's most likely NOT enough to get you to your goal - BUT if you never stop half-assing it, future actions are 100% more easy to take. It's a domino effect. Trust me, it works.
