Hi Mamas. This week is a double episode as I wind up the poddy for 2024 and beyond. It has been nothing less than an absolute privilege to share space with all my wonderful guests as they share some of their most intimate truths about what mothering has been like for them.I have been creating this podcast for 2 years now and for the time being it going to be on pause while I shift focus to some other projects happening at Life After Birth Psychology. I do plan to bring the podcast back but I'm not quite sure when. So for now its goodbye.. until some time later. Thank you so much for all the support I have received in the time I've been creating the show so far. Wishing you a wonderful Holiday season! The art of dedicating yourself to the 'bit'....never gets the respect it deserves...On this episode we dive into the brilliant 'I Blame Society' from writer/director Gillian Wallace Horvat which is now streaming on Shudder in the US.It's the story of a struggling filmmaker who realizes that the skill set to make a movie is the same to commit the perfect murder.Blending reality and fantasy this is some stone cold satire that will send more then a few chills down your spine. We had the distinct pleasure of talking with Gillian about the origins of the story, why she had to play the lead and how some of her other work doing historical documentaries about other films (Her "Johnny Guitar" docs are fantastic) informed her very first feature here.

For this horror filled episode Mike, Rich and Steve are joined by the wonderful JESSICA SCOTT who joins us to talk about our Short Shot and DTV Throwback... But we start with five new films, commencing with the gonzo style I BLAME SOCIETY in which a young film-maker runs with the premise that she'd make a good murderer! We follow that with FEAR OF RAIN, a film which will definitely wrong-foot you, we think! We move on to THE DEVIL'S MACHINE, a low budget British horror with a fascinating concept, and then the post apocalyptic not-zombie movie, FORGET EVERYTHING AND RUN! Our final main review is the very vicious, FOR THE SAKE OF VICIOUS - this one really divided the panel, so be sure to listen to see who loved it and who hated it! For our Short Shot we pop on our headphones for the fantastically creepy MEET JIMMY - we advise you do as well (pop on your headphones that is!). Finally Mike, Jessica and Rich discuss 2004's SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER in which a young boy unwittingly aids a serial killer in his Halloween rampage! You can check out Jessica's work HERE Follow the Short Shots TWITTER page, where we will be linking to a short film every day! Don't forget to also check out our main show, the DTV DIGEST on TWITTER and FACEBOOK!
We bring you a dark comedy double bill with the women behind new releases Black Bear and I Blame Society. First, Anna welcomes seasoned guest, film & tv critic Rhianna Dhillon, to catch up on the awards season. They share their thoughts about this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards winners, from Promising Young Woman to Nomadland, and place their bets for the Oscars. Are more diverse filmmakers and actors being recognised this year? Next up, actress and producer Aubrey Plaza joins Anna to talk about her role as Allison in Black Bear. This artistic comedy-drama centres an actress on a difficult film shoot in a remote location. Delving into the themes of the film, Aubrey considers the harmful myth of the ‘genius’ director and why it’s important for actors to feel safe on set. She further describes her relationship with feminism and recalls a time she spoke up for a poorly written female character. Keep listening for an exclusive insight into Aubrey’s upcoming projects! Finally, writer-director and actress Gillian Wallace Horvat tells Anna how her short doc evolved into the murder mockumentary I Blame Society. Another film-within-a-film, this funny thriller sees a struggling director decide filmmaking and killing are not so dissimilar. Gillian reveals the personal experiences that inspired her to make the film and speaks her mind on the term “strong female lead”. She also reflects on how female horror directors are sometimes treated differently to their male counterparts. Other movie and TV mentions: After Love, Sound of Metal, Mogul Mowgli, Promising Young Woman, Rocks, Nomadland, My Octopus Teacher, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Happiest Season, Parks and Recreation, The Untitled Guy Ritchie Movie, David Holzman’s Diary, Gone Girl, Prevenge, I Care A Lot, The Last Seduction, To Die For, Species, Melancholia. This episode is in partnership with Rémy Martin.
