This was swiftly followed by the exit of tour manager Alex Kendrick on October 22. On October 24, guitarist Ken Susi and drummer Nick Pierce also revealed they were leaving the band, with both members expressing that their personal morals had been tested to a breaking point. Susi, formerly of Unearth, and Pierce emphasized their gratitude for the support they received but felt compelled to distance themselves from the band to maintain their personal health and integrity. THE FORGE, the newest Christian movie from the Kendrick Brothers, is a powerful illustration and reminder that discipleship matters! Guest host Adam McManus interviews Alex Kendrick, the co-writer and director of the film, which has already made $27 million domestically since August 23rd. At its height, THE FORGE was shown in 1,900 theaters. Still in 700 theaters today, go to the website www.TheForgeMovie.com to find out where it is playing near you. In the film, Isaiah Wright, played by Aspen Kennedy, has some growing up to do. A year out of high school with no plans for his future, Isaiah is challenged by his single mom and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the Biblical discipleship from his new mentor, prayers of his mother and a prayer warrior named Miss Clara, Isaiah begins to discover God's purpose for his life. Most Bible-believing Christians know the Great Commission by memory. It records the last words of Jesus during His earthly ministry found in Mathew 28:18-20. Jesus said, “All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Notice it doesn't say, “Go and make converts.” While the movie inspires Christians to make disciples, their companion book, Devoted To Jesus, equips believers to disciple others by working through the 52 short chapters in 52 weeks with anyone who needs to grow in faith. Like the special ceremony for young men in THE FORGE, McManus shares the story of the special Manhood Celebration ceremony he organized for his son Honor's 13th birthday. Much like the Jewish families launch their sons into adulthood through a bar mitzvah, McManus believes Evangelical parents should be more intentional. Rob Dempsey, Morning Show Host of His Radio, said, “THE FORGE masterfully weaves together themes of forgiveness, mentorship, and the hope of the Gospel, creating an entertaining and impactful film that leaves a lasting impression.” Watch the trailer of THE FORGE. It's Wednesday, October 2nd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark The more gov't corruption, the more persecution of Christians International Christian Concern released a report on the connection between government corruption and persecution. The report notes that countries with significant abuse of public power for private gain are also countries with high levels of persecution for Christians. Countries like Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nigeria, and North Korea. The report referenced multiple studies that “highlight how corruption within governmental, legal, and societal institutions can exacerbate religious persecution, leading to discrimination, violence, and marginalization of religious minorities.” Iran launched missiles against Israel Speaking of Iran, the country launched dozens of missiles into Israel on Tuesday. There were no immediate reports on any casualties or damage caused by the strike. The attack comes less than a week after Israeli airstrikes killed the leader of Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed terrorist group in Lebanon. Israel has also started ground operations against Hezbollah this week. The U.S. stood by Israel, promising severe consequences for Iranian missile attacks on Israel. J.D. Vance beat Tim Walz in Vice Presidential debate Referring to last night's CBS Vice Presidential debate in New York City between the Republican VP nominee J.D. Vance, an Ohio Senator, and the Democratic VP nominee, Tim Walz, the Minnesota Governor, radio talk show host Erick Erickson sent an email with the subject line: “Even the Democrats Know Vance Won.” He wrote, “JD Vance just turned in the very best performance of a national candidate in decades on a debate stage. He handled himself extremely well.” Vance: Kamala ensured border crisis by dismantling Trump policy When asked about immigration, this was Vance's answer. VANCE: “We have a historic immigration crisis because Kamala Harris started and said that she wanted to undo all of Donald Trump's border policies, 94 executive orders, suspending deportations, decriminalizing illegal aliens, massively increasing the asylum fraud that exists in our system. That has opened the floodgates, and what it's meant is that a lot of fentanyl is coming into our country. “I had a mother who struggled with opioid addiction and has gotten clean. I don't want people who are struggling with addiction to be deprived of their second chance because Kamala Harris let in fentanyl into our communities at record levels. So, you've got to stop the bleeding. You've got to reimplement Donald Trump's border policies, build the wall, reimplement deportations.” Walz lied about being in Hong Kong during Tiananmen Square massacre Talk show host Erick Erickson said Governor Walz did not hold up and opened himself up to more attacks for lying about being in Hong Kong during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. Indeed, listen to his inability to answer a straight question from CBS News moderator Margaret Brennan, reports the National Review. BRENNAN: “Governor Walz, you said you were in Hong Kong during the deadly Tiananmen Square protests in the spring of 1989, but Minnesota Public Radio and other media outlets are reporting that you actually didn't travel to Asia until August of that year. Can you explain that discrepancy?” WALZ: “To the folks out there who didn't get at the top of this: Look, I grew up in small, rural Nebraska, town of 400, town that you rode your bike with your buddies till the street lights come on. And I'm proud of that service. I joined the National Guard at 17, worked on family farms, and then I used the GI Bill to become a teacher, passionate about it, a young teacher. My first year out, I got the opportunity in the summer of ‘89 to travel to China, 35 years ago be able to do that. “I came back home and then started a program to take young people there. We would take basketball teams. We would take baseball teams. We would take dancers, and we would go back and forth to China. The issue for that was, was to try and learn. Now, look, my community knows who I am. They saw where I was at. Look, I will be the first to tell you, I have poured my heart into my community. “I've tried to do the best I can, but I've not been perfect, and I'm a knucklehead at times, but it's always been about that. Those same people elected me to Congress for 12 years, and in Congress, I was one of the most bipartisan people. Many times, I will talk a lot. I will get caught up in the rhetoric, but being there, the impact. It made the difference. It made my life. I learned a lot about China. I hear the critiques of this.” BRENNAN: “Governor, just to follow up on that: The question was, ‘can you explain the discrepancy?'” WALZ: “All I said on this was as I got there that summer and misspoke on this. So, I will just, that's what I've said. So, I was in Hong Kong and China during the democracy protests went in, and from that, I learned a lot of what needed to be in governance.” All that to say, Walz was in the United States, not Hong Kong, during the Tiananmen Square massacre, reports Reuters. Hurricane Helene claims 140 lives; Nearly 2 million without power Rainstorms followed by Hurricane Helene dumped over 40 trillion gallons of water across the Southeast U.S. over the last week. The storm has caused at least 140 deaths across six states. Hundreds of people are still missing, and over 1.7 million homes and businesses are without power. North Carolina faced some of the worst flooding. Among the damage there was Ridgecrest Conference Center in Black Mountain, the host of many Christian retreats over the years. Christian groups like Samaritan's Purse have been providing supplies and aid in the region. On Monday, Former President Donald Trump visited hurricane-ravaged Georgia alongside Franklin Graham, the founder of Samaritan's Purse. Listen to Graham's comments. GRAHAM: “This building behind us represents hundreds of thousands of people that have lost homes, businesses, friends, loved ones. And it's going to take an army of volunteers and people to respond. And, of course, at Samaritan's Purse, we want to respond, always in Jesus' name.” In Mark 9:41, Jesus said, “For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” Georgia's Heartbeat law declared unconstitutional In other Georgia news, a state judge ruled on Monday that Georgia's heartbeat law is unconstitutional. The ruling came despite the Georgia Supreme Court upholding the law last year. Georgia's 2019 Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act effectively banned abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The latest ruling would allow abortions up to 20 weeks. Chris Carr, the state's Republican Attorney General, announced he will appeal the ruling. He said, “We believe Georgia's life act is fully constitutional.” Kris Kristofferson died Kris Kristofferson died Saturday at 88 years of age. Haunted through his lifetime by the Christian faith, the singer songwriter of "Why Me Lord?" and "Sunday Morning Coming Down" was known for his contemplative lyrics. KRISTOFFERSON: “Lord, help me, Jesus, I've wasted it. So, help me, Jesus. I know what I am. Now that I know that I needed You so, help me, Jesus. My soul's in Your hand.” Alex Kendrick chats with Adam McManus And finally, today, as I guest host for Kevin Swanson on Generations Radio, I chat with Alex Kendrick who co-wrote and directed the Christian film called The Forge. It highlights the power of Christian discipleship. KENDRICK: “We wrote this script about a young 19-year-old who has graduated high school, trying to figure out what direction he goes in life. His father's abandoned him, but he does have a praying mother, and she's asking God to send someone into his life that can call him to faith in You and help mentor him as he steps into manhood. “We watch the path of young Isaiah, the 19-year-old, go on the ups and downs of stepping into manhood, embracing responsibility, and growing in his faith. By the end of the film, we hope that people say, ‘I want that to happen to me' or perhaps one of your children.” Take a listen to my conversation with Christian filmmaker Alex Kendrick at Generations.org/radio. That's Generations.org/radio. The Forge is still in 700 theaters. So, make plans to see it this week if you haven't already done so. To find a theater near you, go to TheForgeMovie.com. My family laughed and cried. And we were inspired to be better disciples of Christ and to help fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples. Watch the trailer. The newest film by the legendary Kendrick brothers, currently playing in theaters, feels impeccably focus-grouped for maximum impact of a Christian movie in 2024. We're not surprised that director Alex Kendrick and producer Stephen Kendrick were able to create another competent and successful Christian film. They have a history of huge box office success stories on relatively low budgets, including WAR ROOM (2015) which notably became the #1 film in America during its second week of release. On a reported budget of $5 million, THE FORGE has already grossed $26 million in its first month, which is huge in the faith-based genre. THE FORGE seems like a spiritual sequel to WAR ROOM; it casts a lot of the same actors from WAR ROOM in extremely similar roles, including Priscilla Shirer (daughter of mega-church pastor Tony Evans) as a strong but exasperated mother struggling with family issues. In THE FORGE, newcomer Aspen Kennedy plays recent high school graduate Isaiah Wright, a directionless 19-year-old without a father who is unemployed and seems to have no passions in life beyond video games and basketball. When he gets a part time job at local business Moore Fitness, CEO Joshua Moore (played by Cameron Arnett) takes Isaiah under his wing and becomes the father he never had. With the help of an exclusive Christian men's club called “The Forge”, Isaiah finally feels motivation to become the man he has always wanted to be. But unspoken in the film's plot is how the setting of THE FORGE, Moore Fitness, is meant to resemble an Amazon fulfillment warehouse. THE FORGE attempts to bring dignity and motivation to fulfillment center employees through an unimaginable plot line where Isaiah and his coworkers volunteer to work a 24 hour shift to save the company. Sadly, this feels laughably out of touch for a film that otherwise does an eerily good job of elevating the mundane of an everyday Christian's life in today's fallen world. Allyson is a busy full-time stay-at-home mom with aspirations to run a famous mommy blog. Feeling unfulfilled in her role as a mother, she decides to decompress with a night on the town accompanied by her two best friends Sondra and Izzy. Despite the full support each mom gets from her family for a well-deserved break, the act of the moms leaving their respective houses triggers a series of chaotic and traumatic events that are supposed to be funny but are actually extremely stressful. Every character is a terrible communicator, and you get the sense that moms having fun disrupts some kind of ancient social order to the point of severe consequences for everyone involved. Directed by the Erwin brothers (I STILL BELIEVE), MOMS' NIGHT OUT is a competently-produced and commercially successful film, drawing appeal from its relatively star-studded cast including Sarah Drew (GREY'S ANATOMY) Sean Astin (LORD OF THE RINGS), Patricia Heaton (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) and country singer Trace Adkins. Even more important to us at Boys' Bible Study are featured performances by Christian film scene veterans Andrea Logan and also Alex Kendrick, one of the famous Kendrick Brothers, who have created and starred in some of the highest grossing Christian movies of all time. We were excited to watch MOMS' NIGHT OUT for Mothers' Day, but forgot, so we watched it for “Mothers' Day In July” and ended up being horrified by the film's grating millennial humor and depiction of each character as simultaneously whiny and helpless yet obsessively self-important. Bible Boy Julian calls the depcition of family in MOMS' NIGHT OUT “scarier than THE HANDMAID'S TALE” and we think our gentle listeners will agree. The relationship we have with our earthly fathers shapes our view of God the Father. Many fathers feel inadequate to lead and disciple their families, and their wives aren't sure how to encourage or help them lead. It turns into a vicious cycle that doesn't often end in a great family dynamic. Alex Kendrick speaks to the practice of discipleship and how it affects people in our homes. Melanie and Melvin travel back to 2008's big Christian-Marketed Movie release, Fireproof, a Kirk Cameron led Kendrick Brothers production! From occasional filmmaking flubs and functionally-okay narrative decisions, the two figure out if Fireproof is a Party Pleaser or a Party Pooper! Or, maybe something in between? Find out now! Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 33-minutes discussing the Christian-Marketed Movie Complex (CMMC, as coined by Melvin Benson) and positive ways in which it could be improved, rather than dogging on it as people are prone to do. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)The verdict of a Party Pleaser can be for any reason, but Melvin thought it would be interesting to think about whether Fireproof would be edifying to watch with friends or not. You know, because it's a Christian-Marketed film.Melanie and Melvin agree: the movie starts very poorly. It's not much of a tone-setter for the rest of the film, and they each propose alternative ways for the film to open.Fireproof doesn't have successful comedy, and it's drama is oddly voyeuristic which makes for a very awkward film.Fireproof is just shy of 2 hours. To make it more palatable, it could have easily been trimmed.Occasionally Fireproof has some semi-well constructed sequences. They're very much in the "almost there" category. The first half of Fireproof showcases the result of marital dysfunction in Caleb, and the second half labors to show that equal-yet-opposite result in Kathryn.Upon reflection, Fireproof seems structurally sound, but the execution leaves itself wanting.Recommendations: Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds by Jen Wilkin (Book)Abbott & Costello's Who's On First? It's Thursday, February 23rd, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Sudanese authorities arrest Christian preaching to Muslims Last Friday, authorities in Sudan arrested a church leader for preaching to Muslims. Officials detained Yousif Ayoub Hussein Ali during an open-air worship event in the southeastern part of the African nation. Local Muslims complained that Ali's preaching would convert their children. The local General Union of Christian Youth condemned the arrest as a continuation of systematic persecution of Christians in the country. Sudan is ranked 10th on the Open Doors World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Spain expands abortion access Spain's Parliament passed a new law last Thursday, expanding access to abortion. The law eliminates a three-day waiting period before an abortion as well as requirements to give women information on alternatives. Health care providers that conscientiously object to performing abortions will now be listed in a public registry. Currently, private centers do most of the killings since so many doctors in the state health system refuse to participate. The law also mandates the promotion of sexually perverted lifestyles in all educational levels. Psalm 9:17 warns, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Putin no longer abides by nukes treaty On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave his state-of-the-nation address. His nearly 2-hour-long speech was the first address he's given since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Putin announced Russia is suspending its participation in the New START treaty. It's the last surviving nuclear-arms-control treaty between the U.S. and Russia. The treaty put a limit on how many nukes both countries can have. Will America default on its debt? The Congressional Budget Office announced last week the U.S. would default on its debt unless Congress raises the debt ceiling this summer. By September, the U.S. Treasury will have run out of emergency measures unless the $31.4 trillion debt limit is raised. These extraordinary measures allow the government to keep borrowing money for its obligations. House Republicans are demanding federal spending cuts in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the U.S. deficit will reach $18.8 trillion over the next 10 years. Kentucky church still fighting against COVID lockdown A church in Kentucky is still fighting for its religious freedom after being targeted during COVID-19 lockdowns. Liberty Counsel filed a brief with the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals last Friday on behalf of Maryville Baptist Church. Back in 2020, police ticketed members of the church who were in their cars for a drive-in service. The brief states that the church is the prevailing party in the case and entitled to attorney's fees and costs. Southern Baptists expels Saddleback over female pastors On Tuesday, the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention determined five of its churches are “not in friendly cooperation with the Convention.” Such terminology is used for expelling a church from the denomination. The five churches continue to have female pastors in violation of the Southern Baptist Convention's statement of faith. In 1 Timothy 2:12, the Apostle Paul writes, "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” One of the congregations is Saddleback Church, the second-largest congregation to be part of the Southern Baptist Convention, reports The Christian Post. Asbury Revival started from message on confession & repentance Tens of thousands of people have flocked to Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. A non-stop worship service has been going at the Kentucky college since February 8. It all began after a chapel service with a message on confession and repentance. Afterward, students remained to continue worshipping. More and more students came, and the service just didn't stop as people from across the country showed up for weeks. Asbury University said that Monday was its concluding public worship service. From Tuesday onward, services would be held off campus. Kevin Brown, the university's president, said, “We cannot fully express the profound gratitude we have for stewarding this outpouring in the life of our school and beyond. Ultimately, we pray that our efforts in these days point to our Savior.” Alex Kendrick on Asbury revival: “Praise God!” In God's providence, this outpouring is also appearing at other colleges around the country. Christian filmmaker Alex Kendrick visited one of these spots on Monday at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. He said there was no show or spectacle other than seeing hearts transformed. KENDRICK: “What's going on in Asbury, Lee University, Samford University, Cedarville [University] in Ohio -- there's a number of colleges that are now seeking the Lord. Praise God for this generation that is seeking after God. Oh, it's just good. Man, it fills my heart! P raise the Lord. Let's pray that the Lord keeps moving as He wills.” God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, February 23rd in the year of our Lord 2023. Michigan judge strikes down ban on abortion as unconstitutional Michigan's 90-year-old law banning abortion has been ruled to violate the state constitution, reports CBS News. Judge Elizabeth Gleicher of the Michigan Court of Claims ruled last week that prosecutors may not enforce the law in accordance with the reversal of Roe v. Wade in June. The decision was followed Thursday by the State Supreme Court approving a ballot measure for November which would open up sweeping abortion rights for the state. Recent polls indicate that 55% of Michigan voters want abortion “mostly legal.” Similar state-wide ballot measures are scheduled for November in California, Vermont, Kentucky and Montana. The contentious Brazilian presidential election Elections are approaching for the fifth largest country in the world. Brazil will have its nationwide election for president on October 1st. More Americans upset with Roe overturn than inflation The Wall Street Journal reports that support for the legalization of abortion among Americans has increased by 5% since March. Now, 60% of voters, including 27% of Republicans, say abortion should be legal in most cases. Only 30% support a 15-week ban. Pro-“gay marriage” woman next British Prime Minister In the providence of God, the United Kingdom will have a new Prime Minister today — the nation's third female in the top position. A member of the Conservative Party, Liz Truss has advocated for homosexual faux marriage and environmentalism throughout her political career. When asked about her faith, Ms. Trust said, “I share the values of the Christian faith and the Church of England, but I'm not a regular practicing religious person.” She will be the 15th female head of state out of 45 European countries, a list that includes Scotland, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden. Listen to this clip from Alex Kendrick's appearance on Generations Radio. KENDRICK: “In 2019, we were finishing our last movie, Overcomer, and we get a call from Kirk Cameron. He says, ‘Guys, I've just watched this short documentary called ‘I Lived on Parker Avenue.' Man, it grabbed my heart. You've got to watch this thing!' So, Steve and I pull it up and watch it. “It is the true story of an 18-year-old girl who rolls off the abortion table at the last second as the procedure is starting. She says, ‘I can't do this.' She places her baby for adoption. That baby was adopted by a Christian couple that could not have children. They named the baby David. “Eighteen years later, David gets to meet his biological mother. She thought he would hate her because of what she was going to do and giving him up and he wrapped her up in a hug and said, ‘No. Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me live! Thank you for letting me be adopted.' He now is married and speaks around the country on behalf of adoption and choosing life. “We say this has got to be a feature film. So, that's when we made Lifemark. And we had no idea Roe vs. Wade will be overturned. So, God is doing something.” Watch the trailer and purchase your tickets ASAP at www.LifemarkMovie.com.
