In this week's episode, we are discussing Nancy Howard, who was shot in the face by a man who was hired by her husband. She survived the almost fatal wound and was able to have her day in court. This is a tale of betrayal, greed, deception and ultimately attempted murder. This episode was recorded live at Henry's Majestic in Dallas, TX on May 2, 2024. We did enjoy a Chardonnay from Horshoe Bend along with grilled Chili-Lime Chicken Skewers accompanied by Cilantro Lime Pearl Couscous and a refreshing Jicama salad.www.texaswineandtruecrime.com

Welcome nutritionist and global wellness advocate Mona Sharma. She is the founder of Xicama™, an innovative line of functional food and beverage products that deliver the gut and immune boosting benefits of the superfood Jicama. "It's not the Ashram that healed me. It was the rituals at the Ashram that healed me: It was the focusing on my body, listening to my thoughts, living in nature, being with community—understanding that I could actually use my body to control my mind and my mind to control my body to heal.” - Mona Sharma Mona sits down with Ruben to talk about her disillusionment of our modern medical system following two heart surgeries, chronic anxiety, and burnout resulting from her incredibly high-stress corporate career. This led her to rediscover the power of food-as-medicine, yoga, and meditation to heal the body—truths she grew up amid youthful summers spent living in an Ashram. Today these are the pillars of Mona's philosophy in her work helping her clients achieve their goals for long term optimal health and excellence. Mona speaks on the value of honoring your personal constitution over trying to find “the perfect diet”, and why it's much more sustainable to seek out foods that fuel self-love rather than simply labeling them as either “good food” or “bad food”. "It wasn't the diet or living on the Ashram that helped me lose 45 pounds, get off medication, and heal my heart. It was the ultimate act of self-love.” - Mona Sharma SUBSCRIBE to Live Through Love so you never miss an episode & RATE/REVIEW it on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. Keto Restaurant Fast Food Today we are continuing our series and what you can eat, and where you can eat, fast food style. It’s not hard to find plain keto burger patties and such. But, did you know that some choices that sound harmless may have hidden sugars? Even broiled chicken sometimes. So I have done the research for you. You can eat with peace of mind if you stick to these suggestions. 1. Arby’s Arby’s is everywhere, and their slogan “We have the meat!” sounds like a great start. BUT, all the meat choices on their menu have grain or sugar, EXCEPT for the Roast Beef. Their sauces are also pretty sugar loaded. Oh Arby’s, you could have been so great. Still, they do have options. And the Roast Beef is a nice change from the burger patty world out there. Best Keto Meal Choice: Layered roast beef over a bed of lettuce. On to this add onion mix, grilled pepper, and top it with swiss cheese. Single items that are Keto Kosher: Meat: Roast Beef Cheese: American, Cheddar, Provolone, Swiss, and Smoked Gouda. Veggies: Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, Sauerkraut, Red and Yellow peppers, and a pepper and onion mix. Sauce: Only Yellow Mustard. All other sauces have sugar. Drink: Unsweet Tea or Water. Today’s second star of keto restaurant fast food: Baja Fresh Mexican Grill The chicken and beef are premarinated in a sugar marinade. But, the Fish and Shrimp can be ordered un-marinated. You MUST specify un-marinated when you order. Their ingredients are fresh produce, and meats that are never frozen and they don’t use microwaves. Best Keto Option: Grilled shrimp salad with un marinated shrimp, pico de gallo, jack cheese, avocado and fresh squeezed lime. Hold the tortilla strips and dressing. Single Keto Items. Meat: Grilled Fish or Shrimp Cheese: Jack or Cotija Drink: Water Veggies: Avocado, Bell Pepper, Lettuce, Onion, Tomato, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, Kale, Lime Wedges, Jicama. Keto restaurant fast food is all around. Enjoy and Keto on! This week, in our very special series of episodes featuring our wonderful panel of speakers at our upcoming Boss Mama Retreat, we have my dear friend, Mona Sharma. For more information about how to join us in person for a beautiful day filled with joy and inspiration, check us out here. As a celebrity wellness educator who recently appeared on Red Table Talk as Will Smith's holistic nutritionist and mind/body coach, she is also the founder of XicamaTM, an innovative line of functional food and beverage products that deliver the gut- and immune-boosting benefits of the superfood, Jicama. Her early years were spent living in an ashram while learning about the power of food as medicine, yoga, and meditation to heal the body. After overcoming two heart surgeries, experiencing chronic anxiety, and burning out in the corporate world, she returned to her Ayurvedic roots and began her own healing journey, healing herself from the inside out. As a result, she takes a holistic view while partnering with functional medicine doctors to optimize each person's unique constitution. In this episode, Mona and Sabrina chat about living a balanced, empowered, holistic lifestyle on a daily basis. Nobody can just jet off to Bali or go to an ashram for a month or two to recharge and rejuvenate themselves -- mind, body, and soul. But what we can do is implement the principles of “food is medicine,” “movement renews your energy,” and “meditation will heal your soul.” We are so often bombarded with messages of dieting, exercising, looking “fit,” looking “good,” but whose ideals are you living up to anyway? Moreover, as women, as moms, although the juggle is real between kids, a partner, your career and social life, and everything in between, how do we recharge our life, our minds, our souls, and our bodies? We are responsible for the health of our families, but how can we ensure that we also take care of ourselves, without the guilt, without the shame, without the constant pressure of societal expectations? One of the ways we can do this is by nourishing our minds and bodies with delicious, nutrient-rich foods. Yes, mama, nobody likes to spend two hours in the kitchen meal prepping on the weekend, but taking the time to prep your meals and batch your recipes every weekend will get both you and your family into a routine (which is ahhhmazing especially when you have young wee ones who are always watching!). But more than that, imagine coming home to ready-to-cook or ready-to-eat food instead of scrambling at the last minute wondering, what on earth shall I make for dinner tonight? Or going on a hangry takeout dinner spree and ordering the sweet-salty-fried-processed food orchestra for you and your family. Instead, prep your smoothie the night before with some quality fruits, veggies, healthy fats, and some protein sources for you and your kiddos. Have your list of non-negotiables every single morning - be it drinking a glass of warm water with some lemon, getting in 5 minutes of reflection/meditation, moving your body through some exercise and stretches for another 5-10 minutes… What are your pillars? Your kids and family will follow in your footsteps slowly but surely, but the trick is to create a routine of your non-negotiables, little eyes and ears are always watching and listening, even if you think they're not. Healthy habits build a healthy mind, body, and soul. Instead of overwhelming yourself with doing a 360-degree turn and shocking your system with a total habit change, how about implementing small changes daily into your life and making them a part of your routine? This is also known as habit stacking and helps with long term sustainability and will stop you from “falling off the wagon” and instead, help you embody and truly live a holistic lifestyle. This will also help you balance and manage the emotions that co...

“Growers are becoming smarter each and every day in their quest to raise the most flavorful food for us all.”Lori Taylor (15:09-15:17) As we wind down another year and look to 2020, The Produce Moms team is taking a look back on our biggest takeaways, favorite podcast episodes, and industry trends to look out for. “We're close to a perfect five-star rating. We have amazing reviews, and when I read them, it motivates me to stay dedicated to this platform. When we get that feedback from our audience, we know it's worth it.” - Lori Taylor (11:37-12:01) We've done some amazing work this year with Kroger Health and supporting their mission to spread their message of health through their Fresh for Everyone initiative and other projects. We've added new brand partners and have had some breakthrough media opportunities, which is helping us reach an even larger audience. The Fresh Summit, the Super Bowl of the fresh produce industry, brings all brands involved in the industry together to showcase their new products. We were so proud to be involved in the event and see the Produce Moms logo on the packaging of one of the Crunch Pak products. The company's Apple Slices product is a perfect fit for our company and the audience we serve. Most Memorable Moments of 2019 on The Produce Moms Podcast The podcast is one of my favorite platforms for spreading our message of better health through fresh fruits and vegetables. It lets us highlight the remarkable people who are helping the industry achieve so much more. Interviewing the founder and CEO of Hazel Technologies was a personal favorite podcast moment. Hazel Technologies is working to reduce food waste, which is a critical issue for the global food supply. In other episodes, we discussed the process of recycling as well as how the produce industry is leading the way in packaging innovations. We highlighted the role that plastic can play in mitigating food waste—something that most people don't understand. We did an episode on the coconut fruit and its misclassification as a tree nut by the FDA, which is a big problem when you consider the impact this can have on food labeling. Fruits and Vegetables are Here to StayThe growing interest in plant-based eating is an indication that fruits and vegetables are here to stay. A trend to watch out for in 2020 is plant breeding that focuses on flavor first in a way that's never been done before. Today's growers are using new methods for enhancing the quality of the foods they produce and distribute. Medjool dates have emerged as a healthy, satisfying, sweet, and natural treat. It's like nature's candy. If you've never tried a Medjool date, 2020 is your year to try them.” - Lori Taylor (12:58-13:13) Jicama, celery juice, and dried fruits continue to become popular among health-conscious consumers. Herbs like basil are being recognized for their ability to make just about anything taste better. Many people have reached out to The Produce Moms team about pomegranates. Most people's experience with this delicious fruit is through drinking pomegranate juice. But the fruit's small edible seeds can also be found in your local grocery store. Reflecting on everything we've done this year gives us a tremendous feeling of gratitude. We could not be more thankful for everyone who supports the work we do here at The Produce Moms. It takes a lot of passionate people bringing their talents to the table, and we look forward to what 2020 has in store for us and for you and your family. How to get involved Join The Produce Moms Group on Facebook and continue the discussion every week! Reach out to us - we'd love to hear more about where you are in life and business!
