I switched to Linux Desktop from Mac/Windows. I use it as a daily driver now. Here are the reasons why I finally made the switch. I shared a lot of the software I use for ALL of my needs. If you're a live streamer, developer, or gamer, and you're considering switching, hopefully this video will help with your decision to switch or not.---------------------------------------------------

For tips we have flock for command line file locking, apt modernize sources for automated source file upgrades, pw-dot for visualizing the Pipewire graph, and trash for interacting with the trash can from the command line. It's apparently not always safe to apply to Canonical, Nvidia pushes drivers to go with its new hardware, and apparently Linux now runs inside PDFs. Then there's a bit of a flame war to cover over Rust in the kernel, at least one maintainer leaves, and there's the normal churn of application updates to talk about. For tips, we have EasyCron so you don't have to use Google every time you write a cron job, dig for abusing DNS to check if your local Internet connection works, pw-dump to get excrutiating details on your local Pipewire environment, and rocm-smi to make sure nobody's mining bitcoin on your GPU. It's another week of big Linux news, starting with a new Ardour release, that one of our hosts had a tiny part in. The Winamp source release has been a trainwreck, Cloudflare spills the tea on their newest servers, and Valve is shaking things up. Proton may be adding support for Arm64 gaming, Valve engineers are laying down a challenge to Wayland, and a new DXVK is out with a bunch of fixes. And don't forget, we have in-depth coverage of the big "9.9" Linux vulnerability that turned out to be not quite that severe. For tips we have weather on the command line, protontricks for fixing Steam games, and xxd for generating some random hex. You can find the show notes at https://bit.ly/4epi7to and we'll see you next time!
