And knowing that gives one the empowerment of knowing they can come up with an idea, fix it and re release it. That everyone has an invisible expiration slapped on their head and we just don't when it could be our last day on this Earth. The only thing you can do is show up in your most powerful, creative, and present self and create a legacy and impact that will out last us.

You see it all over social media. “Hustle Life” “Hustle 24-7” While that is great, you could risk burnout if you're not giving yourself the time and space to renew yourself. Could we switch our mindset from feeling like we have to hustle everyday to allowing things to come into our life that we are passionate about. Allowing yourself the time to really get imaginative with the direction you want to go in your life, allowing the space to reconnect with yourself, or allowing that new client to pop in out of the blue. There's a mantra that I tell myself that I give out on this episode, and that may help you in your creative journey.

Every year, just after the latest major version of iOS goes public, something else happens deep inside Apple: In addition to any features that simply couldn't be completed in time, or had to be pushed back for any reason, along with all the new features marketing thinks are essential to keep selling iPhones and iPads, and all the features engineers are pitching as transformative or just plain awesome get put in a big pile. And then they're sorted through, prioritized, approved, and rejected, until it starts to take shape: The next major version of iOS. And, this year, that's all going to culminate on June 3, at WWDC 2019, with the debut of iOS 13. Even as long as Mike and Charles been exploring the techspace frontier, cadets, they still get surprised at how weird things can get. Apple let the moths out of its checkbook for a big acqui-hire, Google finally pulled the plug on its Plus (and tried to hide the cause of death), Australia's government gets Applesplained to, Facebook doubles down on bad security, the A12 Bionic smokes the Note 9 (in states where that's legal), and Kanye continues his Apple fantasies ... and this is all before they get to That Can't Be Right! Thankfully, some things still stay the same. Apple is releasing a ludicrously overpriced accessory, another company takes an Apple idea and runs with it, there's yet still more confirmation (yes, more) of new iPads, there's some cool new things in Apple's healthcare space, and some sweet deals on the latest iPhones (and the Note 9, if you prefer). Oh, and Bloomberg is still wrong. See? Comforting, reliable nuggets in a turbulent world. All this and a new Intel chip (yes, really!), CVS crying uncle and making Apple Pay official, dumb rumors to squash, CBC's Apple hit job to poke holes in, and Facebook makes a spy terminal for your grandma. Mike and Charles also take a look at the Luna Display device, fresh out of Kickstarter, and preview Apple's newest secret project: the iPlane 1 (though we hear they're just winging it). Marketing can be pretty gross and the idea of ‘personal brand’ can be marketing at it’s grossest! But it doesn’t have to be this way. In my experience, personal brand can be an outpouring of real inner work and self discovery if you approach it the right way. It’s no secret that ‘personal brand’ is a game changer for your creative success, but if you, like me, find the notion of personal brand to seem shallow, I challenge you to listen to this episode and see that this journey can be quite the opposite! Plus this episode is completely based on big chain pizza restaurant slogans… so you know it’s gonna be good. May your personal brand journey be as deep as a Chicago deep dish pizza pie! Marketing can be so discouraging when you’re not focusing your efforts on what really works. In my experience there are only a few styles of marketing that really work today and one of them is ‘influencer marketing’. Influencer marketing is like 'word of mouth' on steroids. Now, if you can resist puking in your mouth at the sound of the word ‘influencer’, I think we can learn some things from this marketing style that will not only help us grow our creative careers but also do so in a way that is more positively human! Staying relevant over the long haul is a concern of almost every designer I know. So how do you do it? What does it take? What better way to find out than to chat with someone (or in this case someones) who has actually done it? The design duo (now full studio) The Heads of State have had many lives. These guys cut their teeth in the early 2000s gig poster scene, transitioned to illustrators for the likes of The New York Times and now take on larger design projects as a full on design studio. In this interview I really wanted to pick their brains and find out what was it about them that enabled them to stay relevant over the past 15 years? And how do you navigate large transitions in your career? http://theheadsofstate.com/ https://www.instagram.com/theheadsofstate/ Thanks to Yoni Wolf and the band WHY? for our theme music.
