George Foreman, known as the baddest man on the planet in his heyday, passed away this week. Foreman had the best career of any boxer after his final fight in the ring. He was larger than life during the sixties and seventies, but he was able to accomplish the unthinkable at 45 years old. On November 5th, 1994, Foreman knocked out Michael Moorer to claim the Heavyweight Championship, as the oldest champion in history. But, he was the spokesman for one of the greatest inventions, The George Foreman grill. With sales of over 100 million units sold, we all had one. Rest in Peace champ! pWotD Episode 2881: George Foreman Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 1,670,137 views on Saturday, 22 March 2025 our article of the day is George Foreman.George Edward Foreman (January 10, 1949 – March 21, 2025) was an American professional boxer, businessman, minister, and author. In boxing, he competed between 1967 and 1997, and was nicknamed "Big George". He was a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist. He is the namesake of the George Foreman Grill. After a troubled childhood, Foreman took up amateur boxing and won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Having turned professional the next year, he won the world heavyweight title with a stunning second-round knockout of the then-undefeated Joe Frazier in 1973. He defended the belt twice before suffering his first professional loss to Muhammad Ali in the Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. Unable to secure another title opportunity, Foreman retired after a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977.Following what he referred to as a born again experience, Foreman became an ordained Christian minister. Ten years later he announced a comeback, and in 1994 at age 45 won the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight championship titles by knocking out 26-year-old Michael Moorer. He dropped the WBA belt rather than face his mandatory title defense soon after, and following a single successful title defense against Axel Schulz, Foreman relinquished his IBF title as well on June 28, 1995. At 46 years and 169 days old, he was the oldest world heavyweight champion in history. Foreman was the oldest to ever win the world heavyweight boxing championship of major honors and the second-oldest in any weight class after Bernard Hopkins (at light heavyweight). He retired in 1997 at the age of 48, with a final record of 76 wins (68 knockouts) and 5 losses, one of the famous losses coming at the hands of Muhammad Ali who hit him with a lightning fast 1-2 combination which was “the fastest punch” Foreman had ever seen.Foreman was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and International Boxing Hall of Fame. The International Boxing Research Organization rates Foreman as the eighth-greatest heavyweight of all time. In 2002, he was named one of the 25 greatest fighters of the past 80 years by The Ring. The Ring ranked him as the ninth-greatest puncher of all time. He was a ringside analyst for HBO's boxing coverage for 12 years until 2004. Outside boxing, Foreman was a successful entrepreneur and known for his promotion of the George Foreman Grill, which has sold more than 100 million units worldwide by 2011. In 1999, he sold the commercial rights to the grill for $138 million. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:50 UTC on Sunday, 23 March 2025.For the full current version of the article, see George Foreman on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Kajal.

Matt and Jay discuss why we suck at losing, how to get better at it and why embracing failure will make you a bigger winner than ever! We're very excited to announce our books “Sexual Magnetism,” “The WASM Dating Handbook” and “Secrets of Sensual Massage” are now available! Follow these links to get your copies of "Sexual Magnetism," "The WASM Dating Handbook" and "Secrets of Sensual Massage" on Amazon.com. Intro: Losing Sucks! Losing sucks - Failure sucks And we're not good at it. Esp as Americans. Tom Brady falling apart this year Which is sad List of famous failures Abraham Lincoln Defeated in his run for state legislature (1832), failed in business (1833), had a nervous breakdown (1836), was defeated in his bid for congress (1843), defeated for US senator (1854), defeated as vice presidential candidate (1856) and defeated again as US senator (1858) before finally becoming president (1860) and then was murdered – but he also galvanized the country, abolished slavery and changed the course of US history! Widely considered one of the - if not THE - best US president Michael Jordan after switching to baseball (big failure in baseball) Michael had won 3 NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls, 3 league MVP titles and was considered the best player in the league…THEN he switched to baseball Motivated by his father's death and his dad's dream for him to become a baseball player, Jordan joined the White Sox…and he was terrible. Never even played a major league game. After two seasons Jordan sucked it up, admitted he was crap at baseball and went back to the NBA… …and won 3 more championships! He is now considered the greatest basketball player of all time (Sorry you LeBron fans!) Tiger Woods Once considered to be the world's greatest golfer - winner of 14 majors titles in golf - Woods was involved in multiple scandals, major back injuries, family disintegration and a mental meltdown. Once #1 in the world, by 2017 Tiger had dropped to 1,199th. Starting the 2018 season, at age 42, after having gone through four back surgeries, including spinal fusion, the question was not whether Tiger could drive a golf ball 300+ yards, but whether he could ever again swing a club again without debilitating pain. He got off to a slow start in 2018, but then began to gather momentum. He almost won the 2018 PGA Championship, finishing second with his best-ever final round score in a major. Then, in what seems like a miracle, or perhaps a fairytale, Tiger did the impossible and came back to win the 2019 Masters for his 15th major title. Muhammad Ali Ali had been on the top of the boxing world. In 1960 he won an Olympic gold medal and over the next few years he built his reputation and skill and in 1965 he won the heavyweight championship of the world, in a stunning upset over the seemingly invincible Sonny Liston. But in 1967, after refusing to serve in the US military due to his objections to the Vietnam War, Ali was stripped of his world championship belt and his boxing license. He was convicted of draft evasion, sentenced to five years in prison, and fined $10,000. Although Ali did not serve time, he would not be allowed to fight again until 1970. Ali had been robbed of his prime years and he lost his 1971 bid for the heavyweight crown to Joe Frazier. In 1973 he lost a fight to Ken Norton in which his jaw was broken. He appeared to be washed-up a has-been. But then in quick succession Ali won rematches with Norton and Frazier, earning him the "right" to be knocked out by the reigning heavyweight champion, the hulking George Foreman. But in the celebrated "Rumble in the Jungle" a middle-aged Ali rallied to defeat Foreman and suddenly he was back on top of the boxing world again. Ali would go undefeated until 1978. By the time he retired, Ali was not only the most famous boxer on the planet, but the most famous athlete and probably the most-recognized human being around the world. Side Story: Twenty years later, in 1994 at the age of 45, George Foreman had an amazing comeback of his own, when he went up against heavyweight champion Michael Moorer and won to reclaim the title he had lost to Ali. Battle of the Alamo (1836) Mexican Army wiped out the American forces - huge mental loss Turned into rallying cry “Remember the Alamo!” Pearl Harbor (1941) Unleashed the US War machine Learning As An Adult Aka accepting failure / losing So effing hard Jay's Fucked Up Back Accepting I'm not healthy, re-building it, SO FRUSTRATING! How Do We Accept Losing And Transcend It? Realize failure is part of the process Don't make it personal Don't attach your ego to the outcome Keep making small progress - little wins - to move you towards your goal Small, continuous wins will help offset the failure Accept the pain It hurts. Don't deny it. Don't bury it. Accept it. MAybe even relish it Learn to break through Once you learn that pain isn't permanent and failure isn't fatal, a whole new world of possibility is opened up to you David Goggins “Never Finished” Quote: “Nothing in my life has ever happened for me on the first try. It took me three cracks to get through Navy SEAL training. I had to take the ASVAB five times. I failed twice before making the world record for pull ups in 24 hours. But by then failure had long since been neutralized. When I set an unreasonable goal and fall short I don't even look at it as failure anymore. It is simply my first, second, third or tenth attempt. That is what belief does for you. It takes failure out of the occasion completely because you go in knowing the process will be long and arduous - and that is what the fuck we do.”
Tuhan Yesus memberkati. Doa: Tuhan Yesus, aku mau melayani-Mu hingga akhir hidupku dan terus bermanfaat bagi orang lain sampai masa tuaku. Amin. Tied through a loose naming convention and shaggy thematic chaos, this dazzling fourth episode explores more and more Michaels of 1994! Sarah & Joe continually butt heads over whether any of this holds together, as filmmaker Michael Moore, boxer Michael Moorer, and I.O.C. Honorary Life President Michael Morris are profiled and compared ad nauseum! Moore's NBC show TV Nation is put into career context with The Awful Truth, Roger & Me, Fahrenheit 9/11, and more, while Moorer's six month reign as heavyweight champion through fights with Evander Holyfield and George Foreman is explored. Finally, with trademark controlled mayhem, the hosts attempt to ascertain who Michael Morris/Baron Killanin even was, and if he had any significant impact on the Lillehammer Olympics! It's a cartwheeling 1994-a-palooza with cameos from Yaphet Kotto, Cate Blanchett's Notes on a Scandal, Rocky V, Axel Schultz, and the most recycled joke in the show's short history, courtesy of Bill Hader. This week, It Happened One Year answers the age old question - is Michael Moore actually more Michael Moore than Michael Moorer? Or is that impossible??

As a professional boxer, he was nicknamed "Big George" and competed between 1969 and 1997. He is a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist. As an entrepreneur, he is known for the George Foreman Grill. After a troubled childhood, Foreman took up amateur boxing and won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Having turned professional the next year, he won the world heavyweight title with a stunning second-round knockout of then-undefeated Joe Frazier in 1973. He defended the belt twice before suffering his first professional loss, to Muhammad Ali in the iconic Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. Unable to secure another title opportunity, Foreman retired after a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977. Following what he referred to as a religious epiphany, Foreman became an ordained Christian minister. Ten years later he announced a comeback, and in 1994 at age 45 won the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight championship titles by knocking out 26-year-old Michael Moorer. He dropped the WBA belt rather than face his mandatory title defense soon after, and following a single IBF title defense on June 28, 1995, Foreman renounced his title– the last major belt he ever held. He was 46 years and 169 days old, becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion in history. Foreman is the oldest to ever win the world heavyweight boxing championship, and the second-oldest in any weight class after Bernard Hopkins (at light heavyweight). He retired in 1997 at the age of 48, with a final record of 76 wins (68 knockouts) and 5 losses. In November 1994, George Foreman shocked the sport of boxing by winning a second world title at the age of 45. Written off by the critics, Foreman held off a rain of punches from Michael Moorer, a man 19 years his junior, before landing a knockout punch in the tenth round. Jeff has been out of commission for a bit of time due to a pedicure gone wrong. Kidding....Jeff has a serious foot condition and has been at home for the past two months watching boxing videos. Therefore, the guys decide to reference George Foreman's triumphant return to the ring at 45 years old and his match against then heavyweight champ Michael Moorer to talk about perseverance, blind spots, listening to the voice of reason, and what happens when you succumb to your own ego. Also, if anyone knows how we can get in touch with Teddy Atlas, please let us know. We love you, Teddy!!

Teddy Atlas talks about boxing and his extensive charity work in this interview with Fight News Unlimited's "Rabble Rousin'" Rich Bergeron. Atlas was once a protege of the late, great Cus D'Amato and worked with the famous trainer during Mike Tyson's early years as a boxer. Since then, Atlas has worked in a few other pro boxing camps training fighters like Michael Moorer, Donny Lalonde, and Alexander Povetkin. He's also been able to work with various professional football players and football teams, providing both inspirational advice and strength and conditioning tips to go along with some rudimentary boxing clinics. Atlas is perhaps most well known for his extensive boxing analysis and commentary, mainly for ESPN. Atlas is a fixture on Friday Night Fights and Wednesday Night Fights broadcasts on the network, which he joined in 1998. Prior to joining ESPN, Atlas served as ringside analyst for Showtime, ABC Wide World of Sports, and HBO radio broadcasts. He also is well-known for his commentary for Olympic boxing. Atlas discusses his charity work at length in this interview, inspired by his father Dr. Theodore Atlas. The foundation he started bears his father's name and operates under some of the same selfless principles his father lived by. Find out more about the foundation at http://dratlasfoundation.com/ and please give generously. THE BEST FIGHT NEWS ON THE NET!!! George Foreman was born in Texas into a large but poor family. His earliest memories are of being hungry. He found school difficult and felt he was written off because of his scruffy clothes. He had a short temper and would often get into fights as a child, sometimes beating people up for no reason. Soon he discovered that mugging was an easy way to get funds and terrorised his neighbourhood, although he never used knives - just his fists. Heading nowhere fast, George was saved by The Job Corps, a project started by President Lyndon Johnson which aimed to get training and jobs for young people with few opportunities in life. It introduced him to boxing and he began to train seriously. George won the gold medal for heavyweight boxing at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968 and became a professional boxer. He defeated Joe Frazier in 1973 and became heavyweight champion at the age of 24. After being defeated by Muhammed Ali at the infamous Rumble in the Jungle in 1974, George took up religion and became a preacher, giving up boxing for good, or so he thought. By the mid-80s George was short of money: he was building a community centre and wanted it to be well stocked with equipment. So he returned to the only honest way he knew of making money. Ten years out of practice in 1987 when he was 38, George started to train again. Remarkably, on 5 November 1994, at the age of 45, George won the heavyweight title for the second time - this time against Michael Moorer, aged 26, by a knockout in the 10th round.
