On this week's episode of Peak Northwest, Vickie chats with co-host Jamie Hale about her first snowshoeing experience on Mt. Baker, as well as the rest of her roadtrip there. Here are some highlights from this week's show: Vickie talks about snowshoe rentals and logistics. Bellingham is a great roadtrip stopping point if you're driving from Portland or Seattle. The podcast was the perfect platform to figure out why…we talk about getting into video early, Baker's deep snowboard history, Lucas DeBari, why bringing a big-name pro isn't the motivation for him, and a lot more. We're opening up the Vault again for the second of four times in this series! This episode focuses on Vault release #4 that took place in the intimate Mt. Baker Theatre up in Bellingham, Washington. Coming two days before the record came out, this show that amassed no more than 1,500 fans was meant as a preview for the Binaural record with seven songs being played live for the first time. We'll gets to talk about all of the song debuts - Of The Girl, Breakerfall, Light Years, God's Dice, Evacuation, Insignificance and even a few from the record that had already been played in some capacity on television or a Bridge School show. How did these songs sound on first listen? Did we get a sense for what they'd become right away, or did they need time to figure out the right comfort zone for playing these songs? All that, and a story about how Binaural may have been considered a dirty word to some fans back in the early 2000s, specifically someone who may host a Pearl Jam podcast you're currently listening to! Last weekend we joined the UFO iTeam for a field expedition to Mt Baker where they employed their vast array of technology from stealthy electric water craft and FLIR Radar to pick up signals of life forms to state of the art night vision and video and audio recording equipment. Find out what makes up this elite team of UFO and Bigfoot investigators and what makes the evidence the team captures irrefutable. We will patrol the shores of Baker Lake, investigating secret coves and hideaways where Bigfoot could not only remain undetected but wait for prey to come to drink or cool down at the lakeside. We will enter coves and hideaways and other likely places before we return for a night of sky watching and recording as the UFO iTeam turns their state-of-the-art technology to the Heavens. The UFO iTeam is able to convert sound to light and then transmit that light to an object in the sky where it is reconverted to sound. Dave is sending messages that are out of this world to the UFO visitors. This podcast video is going to be in interesting insight into the life of the UFO and Bigfoot Hunter you won’t want to miss.

Mount Baker is a beast of a mountain. It’s one of the chain of volcanoes in the Cascade Volcanic Arc that runs north-south through Washington State in the gorgeous american pacific northwest. Its situated near the border between Washington State and Canada and is prominent on the Vancouver skyline. It stands at 10,780 feet, almost 3,300 metres, and is the third highest mountain in Washington State. After Mt Rainier, it is the most heavily glaciated of the Cascade Range volcanoes. It is often climbed and skiied, but usually in a couple of days. Most teams climb to the foot of the glacier, establish a base camp and set off early in the morning for the summit. Some of the mountain’s tougher customers do it differently, though. Today we’re chatting to Kellie. She’s an aerospace engineer based in Melbourne and recently spent two years living and working in Seattle. During that time she got into mountain climbing in a big way. One of her most significant and memorable mountaineering experiences was climbing Baker in a day. Shaun Palmer, one of the most successful competitive professional snowboarders to ever live. He's like snowboarding's MJ or Gretzky. He's won X-Games and the Banked Slalom and World Cups and so much more. But before he was the world's greatest athlete he was snowboarding's signature bad ass. If you do a Google search for "snowboarders" his image comes up pretty quickly down the list and he's the only first generation snowboarder in with the Olympians and Travis Rice. American flag outfits and bright red clown hair were his trademarks in the early 90's. He qualified for the Olympic boardercross team in 2010 but tore his achilles and couldn't go. Today, Palmer still lives in Tahoe and has rejoined the Sims team and put out a pro model based on the original clown board. He's going to the Legendary Banked Slalom at Mt Baker this year, and FNRad is betting he's going to win.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=NDZ2GQSRQ2BQQ&source=url)

Shawn Farmer was the first pro snowboarder we interviewed for season 1.  I'd been messaging him on facebook (which he doesn't really use) and I hadn't heard back. So when I saw him in the Mt. Baker parking lot I asked if we could record on the chairlift. It ended up being one of the only powder days of the 2014/2015 season. Mt Baker would eventually close early and cancel the banked slalom for the first time in 30 years. This remix is our first attempt at improving an existing episode. Hopefully its more enjoyable than the original. If its your first episode, welcome.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=NDZ2GQSRQ2BQQ&source=url)
