Mike, Seth, & Tommy dive back into the Mythical Man-Month series and tackle the idea of the Second System Effect and how it relates to Power BI development. The Second System Effect is the tendency for a developer to "err on the side of over embellishment when planning their second project". This usually occurs when small, elegant, and successful systems can become over-developed and bloated due to inflated expectations and overconfidence. How does this relate to our development and report lifecycle? Documentary filmmaker Tommy Avallone (I Am Santa Claus, The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man and I love you, you hate me)joins host Mike Pecci on today's episode of the In love with the process podcast. Avallone goes deep into how he find his doc ideas and his obsession with asking the questions that most people didn't know they wanted answers for? Who is the guy behind the mall Santa, why does Bill Murray show up at random parties, and why did a guy dressed as a purple dinosaur become such a household obsession? --------------------------------- Go to inlovewiththeprocess.com to see trailers and clips! ►Tommy's work: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2056650/ ► Tommy's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tommyavallone3 ►Mike Pecci's IG: instagram.com/mikepecci ►ILWP's IG: instagram.com/inlovewiththeprocesspod -------------> Featuring Music from: ► Code Elektro ► L'Avenue ► Russell Nash The Episode is Sponsored by ► bokehrentals.com/ ► Puget Systems: puget.systems/go/ILWTP ► FujiFilm: fujifilm-x.com/ ► FujiFilm Shop: bit.ly/3Q2zTHw ► FujiFilm Refurb: bit.ly/3I9NLh4 ► FujiFilmX-H2S: bit.ly/3i22hN5
Tommy Avallone and I go way back to the days of 94.1 WYSP in Philadelphia. Since then, he's gone on to direct I Love You, You Hate Me (2022), The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man (2018) and I Am Santa Claus (2014). As a kid, Tommy always had a camera on him and was constantly making videos with friends. We chat about how those videos were the stepping stone to a career in the world of documentaries. I know nothing about movies, so I have Tommy explain the difference between the director and producer, and his top five favorite movies. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Based on a link from Paul Turley's blog (and an episode on getting your data into shape). The idea behind this is observations from software engineers not delivering on time despite adding more resources, with the possibility of measuring quality work in "man-months" is a myth. How much of this relates to Power BI development and data integration struggles? When we are so deep in the technical specs, data management, and modeling, is the solution more BI resources? Help your team become more efficient by splitting up their tasks more effectively. Casey Stanton is bringing the concept of partitionable and unpartitionable tasks to the center stage to show how you may be wasting time and effort on tasks while actually making them take longer to finish. You'll learn how to recognize the different types of tasks, plan for a more efficient quarter and choose the right clients to serve as a Fractional CMO. Takeaways: Brook's Law demonstrates that adding more capacity to a project that's failing actually extends the timeline it takes to produce a quality product. There are two main types of tasks, partitionable and unpartitionable. Unpartitionable tasks do not see an increased acceleration in completion with added manpower. Whereas, partitionable tasks are completed faster with more hands involved. Some tasks, like writing persuasive copy, are unpartitionable because they require a singular voice and vision. When you add more people to a team, you increase the amount of necessary intercommunication within the team exponentially. As a Fractional CMO, you should know what tasks are unpartitionable and how you can help the people working on those tasks without getting in their way. When doing quarterly planning, consider what tasks are partitionable or not and what the time needed to complete them actually is. As a Fractional CMO, the Three C's you need to know a potential client has are cash, capability, and capacity. Quote of the Show: “It's the unpartitionable tasks that are the tasks that do not scale with more human capacity” - Casey Stanton Links: Twitter: https://twitter.com/CaseyStanton LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/caseystanton/ Website: https://cmox.co/call Shout Outs: The Mythical Man-Month by Fred Brooks Ways to Tune In: Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/039bc2d6-c1b5-4ced-ac2a-437e69546e7c/fractional-cmo-show Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fractional-cmo-show/id1592740671 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1HGwnjsXA4c4gYQvj4w53E?si=bd6e0908e25749ec Google Podcast: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mcmFjdGlvbmFsY21vLmxpYnN5bi5jb20vcnNz?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjlpNDTveb0AhUXEFkFHaZcDtYQ9sEGegQIARAC YouTube: https://youtu.be/ydFEPv40vts
Phil & Jake rank iconic comic actor Bill Murray, BIC lighters, and cake sprinkles on the List of Every Damn Thing. If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook). We also have a subreddit!SHOW NOTES: Phil talks about how he uses antiquated stoner terminology to describe the workings of asthma inhalers. It's not that he's committed to the stoner lifestyle but that they have the best terms for describing things like that. "This albuterol is cashed." "You can have green hit on this Xopenex." Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn starred in Foul Play which is pretty good and is set in San Francisco. When Phil lived in NYC he was homesick and made it a point to watch movies set in SF. Jake surmises the name of the movie is Lucky Chances Casino, which is the name of a Bay Area casino. We talk about a lot of Bill Murray movies, including Caddyshack, Meatballs, Stripes, Ghostbusters, The Razor's Edge, Little Shop of Horrors, Ghostbusters 2, Groundhog Day, Quick Change, Mad Dog and Glory, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, Lost in Translation and Where the Buffalo Roam (which is the one we couldn't remember the name of, where he plays Hunter S. Thompson). We also discuss Scrooged, which screenwriter Michael O'Donoghue considered his greatest work. It was directed by Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, Superman, the Twilight Zone episode where William Shatner sees a gremlin on the side of the plane) who had much broader sensibilities. "We wrote a fucking masterpiece. We wrote It Happened One Night. We wrote a story that could make you laugh and cry. You would have wanted to share it with your grandchildren every fucking Christmas for the next hundred years. The finished film was a piece of unadulterated, unmitigated shit." Bill Murray voiced the titular role in the Garfield movie (and the sequel Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties). He agreed to do it because he saw it was written by Joel Cohen and thought it was Joel Coen (who made– with his brother– Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, the Big Lebowski, Hudsucker Proxy and Fargo). The documentary that Jake watched about Murray's real-life antics is called The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man. Bill Paxton rules as Chet in Weird Science. Bruce Springsteen wrote “Hungry Heart” for the Ramones and “Because the Night” was written for Patti Smith. We celebrate poetry month with a conversation between Ellen Chang-Richardson, the founder of Little Birds Poetry and the co-founder of Riverbed Reading Series, and David Ly about his debut collection, Mythical Man . David Ly builds, and then tears down, an army of men in a quest to explore personhood in the 21st century. Tenderness, toxic masculinity, nuances of queer love, and questions of race and identity mix in the poetry, casting a spell that enters like "a warm tongue on a first date.” Books are available from our friends at Perfect Books . The Ottawa International Writers Festival is supported by generous individuals like you. Please consider subscribing to our newsletter and making a donation to support our programming and children's literacy initiatives . Presented in partnership with the Ottawa Public Library .
The internet is awash in what are known as "Bill Murray stories." Murray crashing a bachelor party. Bill Murray joining a random kickball game. Bill Murray washing a stranger's dishes. Tommy Avallone traveled to two continents to find out whether these stories were true, and what they tell us about Bill Murray as well as ourselves. Avallone's 2018 film, "The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man," is a light-hearted exploration of a quirky and beloved celebrity. But it's also a meditation on life and the importance of being present.

One of my biggest struggles as a grown ass man, is finding meaningful male friendships. I recently discovered that I am not alone in feeling this way. I also learned this is far too common among men and that we all genuinely crave connection. We often just mask it behind trying to be or become this "Mythical Man."Am I a Man? What does that even mean? We often hear phrases like "Man Up", "Take It Like a Man", "Nut Up", among others. These phrases fall more in line with toxic masculinity and have a pre-qualification that in order to be a man, you have to act in a certain way. If you are interested in discovering what it means to truly be a man, tune in to today's episode of The Allegory & Elm Podcast. This is one you should definitely share with any man in your life, be it your brother, husband, lover, boyfriend, or just a guy you think will get value out of it. Hello listeners! We have missed you. We're back with a bang and very wonderful guest, poet and human delight, David Ly! We talk about his debut poetry collection, Mythical Man, writing with transparency, mythical creatures, writing our experience and what we love about poetry. Welcome to part 2 with Will Forte on the Modern Moron! We talk about what it’s like to Create, produce, write and star in your own TV show. I can’t even tell you the hours that are put in to just one of those roles and to do all of them is just plain crazy. We talk a lot about that experience of having your dream come true and having that dream be overwhelming. He’s facing that challenge and opportunity again with MacGruber which is going to be a limited series on a streaming network. We also talk about the new Scooby Doo movie that is now available to stream and that while the producers weren’t looking for an imitation of Shaggy, Will felt obliged on his own to uphold the tradition of the character originally voiced by Casey Kasem. Remember that name? That’s is right in our demographic. At one point Will is talking about the approach to doing a known cartoon voice and bringing your own take to a character while maintaining the integrity of what people know as a character and I begin telling him how to approach his own successful work. Only a Moron would even attempt such audacity. It comes so easy to me. Then we talk about a Netflix documentary you should check out called “The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man". It’s a real feel good documentary about Bill Murray showing up at random times in random people’s lives and really connecting with them. Bill Murray is one of my all time favorites and I just can’t say enough about how this documentary makes me happy that I held the right person in such reverence. Will has had the opportunity to meet him during his time on SNL and even HE could muster up the nerve to say hello. It was a really great way to wrap up a conversation with an equally great person in Will Forte. CLOSE One of the nicest people you will ever meet. I know I sound prejudice because they’re my friends but anyone who knows Will would say the same thing and that goes for Cheryl Hines as well who was on the show about a month ago and we all knew each other and performed together way back when before any of us had careers in front of the camera? Let’s change that to before they had careers in front of the camera. Thank you again to Will Forte… his new movie “Scoob” is available as Video on Demand or Streaming on Demand, I loved it, my daughter loved it, Will made Casey Kasem proud. Be looking for a limited series return of MacGruber, will that include Kristen Wiig? Hmm great question. You would think I would have asked that right. We both know better than to expect that... see you next time.

His chapbook, Stubble Burn (Anstruther Press, 2018), has been noted by writer Kai Cheng Thom as poetry that speaks “… to the existential crises not only of queer people of colour, but of masculinity in general at a time when men of all kinds are being challenged to look within themselves and recognize both the monstrous and the divine that live there.” (PRISM international). David’s full-length poetry collection Mythical Man is out now with Palimpsest Press. ----- Andrew French is an author who was born and raised in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Once again Sam is back with guys this week. Sadly, she sits in complete silence as Pete takes her mic. That’s right, they DID put Baby in the corner. That said, with Sam still cheering them on like the worlds tiniest mime, the guys somehow have way too much fun. This is like an episode of Seinfeld: it’s an episode about nothing and some people will still find it funny! This week in streaming pics, Pete starts is off with a rare find - something people should actually watch! On Netflix, he’s found The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons from a Mythical Man. Of course he then Pete’s it by also watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Kevin hits HBO and gives Mortal Engines a shot. Life lesson: don’t give Mortal Engines a shot. Next he discusses a quiet gem in Can You Ever Forgive Me? starring Melissa McCarthy. Alex, with two weeks under his belt, manages to only watch Carnival Row on Amazon Prime. And yeah, that came out at the end of his two week window. What a slacker... And what did Opie watch on Hulu you ask? Nothing. In two weeks he watched nothing. We really need to get him a streaming chaperone or something... After the break, the guys tear into the latest Terminator: Dark Fate trailer and then bathe in the glory of the latest Joker trailer. They then finish off the show with a bargain basement movie trivia game that, while being as basic as a pumpkin spice latte, turned out to be a ton of fun! #allpopnoculture #hbo #hbogo #hbonow #netflix #netflixandchill #amazonprime #hulu #popculture #movies #television #streaming #billmurray #thebillmurraystories #johnnydepp #charlieandthechocolatefactory #timburton #mortalengines #melissamccarthy #canyoueverforgiveme #carnivalrow #caradelavigne #orlandobloom #Jamescameron #terminator #terminatordarkfate #joaquinphoenix #joker #jokermovie #dc #dccomics

Hey there, Docubuddy! YOU READY FOR A DOC FIGHT!? Last time we did this, we threw both of the Fyre Festival documentaries against each other and declared a victor. The results stunned the world. We re-visit that theme because there happens to be two documentaries referencing the fandom and experience surrounding one of our most beloved comedic actors. In a NO HOLDS BARRED viewing experience, Akil and Bob sat down and watched “Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man” by Tommy Avallone on Netflix. (Yes. That is the actual subtitle.)We PITTED it VIOLENTLY AGAINST “The Bill Murray Experience” by Sadie Katz. Viewable on Prime Video. You like self-absorbed philosophical shoe-horning in correlation to celebrity obsession? HELL YEAH! Is it all about Bill Murray or about the person? WHO KNOWS?! Do you like it when people put things in all caps? HELL YEAH YOU DO! We all got a Bill Murray movie we like. What would you do if he washed your dishes? Ate your french fries? Played tambourine in your band? Slashed your tires? Spat on your feet? Burnt down your shed? Stole pictures of your family and posted them on his Pinterest account? You’d probably love it, wouldn't you? If he had to take away any of your children, which one would you give him? You don't have a choice. Let us smash documentaries. Apologies to Tommy Avallone, Sadie Katz, and Joel Murray.
