Jon Wright, Josh Howard, and Jacob Tanner discuss the Opening Ceremony at the Olympics, Christian responses to it, and the spiritual battle behind the news cycle.Watch all of our videos and subscribe to our channel for the latest content >HereHere
When we lack wonder, we settle for the evening news. When we lack spectacle, we settle for shock art. When we can't see the burning bush, we set the dumpster on fire. By this point, the Olympics' opening performance has been discussed ad nauseum. Most of us have grown weary of the vitriol and moved on. Therefore, I hesitate to add another voice to the fire, but as one who leads a community of mostly faith-based artists, the performance has held a particular interest to me. I have felt a measure of responsibility to weigh in but more importantly, I have felt a responsibility to ensure my response is not reactionary or regurgitating secondhand information. This bonus episode highlights a few of my thoughts.

Our most requested episode yet tackles the uproar over drag queens portraying the Last Supper at the Olympics' opening ceremony. This controversial act offended not just Christians and Americans but people worldwide. We'll discuss how this reflects the secular worldview dictating societal norms and why it's crucial for Christians to compete in the arena of ideas. For too long, Christians have been told to keep their faith private; it's time to boldly share the Gospel through our words and actions. Tune in to explore these vital discussions and more!

As a Christian, I decided to share my thoughts on the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Intro and wrap for AP Religion Roundup
Scott, Adam, and Caleb discuss the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. During the ceremonies, an LGBTQ rendition of the Last Supper was acted out with transexuals and gay icons. This was an apparent offense to Christians all over the world and highlights the destructive religious ideologies at play in our culture today. The Fellows discuss why Christians should not be surprised that their faith is under attack and how they might respond generally and also in their specific vocations. Olympic Opening Wows; Excessive Force? Biden's DOA Proposal Karel Cast 24-90 The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics was perhaps the best I have ever seen. It celebrated all things French, and Americans seem to have an issue with the fact that there are other cultures that are more advanced socially than we are. Also, is your nationality also your heritage? Does Celine have French roots or is she strictly Canadian? Two kids run on a to a field at a baseball game, and are escorted out in handcuffs? Good lesson, or over policing? Biden wants term limits on the Supreme Court and a constitution amendment to stop Presidential immunity. Is it all just wishful thinking? Venue of Paris Olympic Opening Event Could Be Moved from River Seine: Macron
AP correspondent Charles de Ledesma reports on OLY-Paris-Security.
Paris Olympic organizers appointed prize-winning French theater director Thomas Jolly to direct the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2024 Games and the Paralympics. As artistic director, the 40-year-old Jolly will be tasked with bringing to life Paris' ambitious plan to hold the July 26, 2024, opening ceremony in the French capital's city center, along the Seine River, taking it out of the traditional Olympic Stadium setting for the first time. Paris organizing committee head Tony Estanguet said Jolly “knows how to break norms and take them to the next level” and that he'll “be able to imagine unprecedented artistic concepts” for the shows. Estanguet also said the Place de la Concorde, the large central Paris square where King Louis XVI and others were executed during the French Revolution, is being considered as a venue for the Paralympic opening ceremony, which Jolly will also direct. The closing ceremonies will be held at the Stade de France, the stadium that hosted the World Cup soccer final in 1998. Paris organizers hope to have 600,000 spectators — most of them watching for free — lining the banks of the Seine for the Olympic opening, as the 10,500 athletes are paraded on barges along the river. “By opening the Games to as many people as possible, Paris 2024 displays values which I fully recognize,” Jolly said in a statement from organizers. “The theater I advocate is also resolutely open because I am convinced that in our time, we need to project ourselves together towards common ideals.” Jolly won a Moliere prize, France's highest theater award, for directing in 2015. This week on The Roe Show I sit down and have a fun discussion with Guinness World Record holder for most consecutive backflips on spring loaded stilts, circus performer and creative artist, Ben Brason, known as "Backflip Ben." We discuss his varied career in both gymnastics and performing and how he learned to become a Power Stilts 'master' which earned him his world record. There aren’t too many moments in our planet’s history that inspire or connote the meaning of greatness more so than the Olympic Games. With Rio 2016 – the 31st Olympiad – just days away, I sit down for tea with this super star, Nikola Girke. The Rio games will be her fourth – not a typo – Olympic Games. While this year, she and her sailing partner, Luke Ramsay, will be representing Canada on the Nacra 17, a wee but powerful catamaran, in Olympics past she has represented Canada in both the 470 sailing and RS:X windsurfing disciplines. This makes her not only an over-achiever, but an over-achiever-cubed. When she is not being a talented and disciplined and dedicated non-TV-watching Olympian, she is a huge supporter of causes including Fast and Female, the 60 Minutes Kids Club, and KidsSport, to name a few. We talk Netflix (and her limited knowledge thereof), her special friend Felix, and her life motto: Dare to dream. Dare to achieve. Dare to succeed.
