Are you interested in impact investing? Our summary today works with the article titled Invigorating impact investment networks: Actor-actant engagement in a smart city environment from 2023 by Joanna Vogeley and Paul Ryder, published in the Journal of Social Entrepreneurship. This is a great preparation to our next interview with Katarina Throssel in episode 236 talking about impact investing. Since we are investigating the future of cities, I thought it would be interesting to see how impact investing can be connected to the future of cities. This article presents aspects for successful impact investing and the role of technologies, also revealing how network participants enhance distributed agency. As the most important things, I would like to highlight 3 aspects: Impact investing networks are complex ecosystems involving the interplay of human actors and technological actants, which can be effectively understood through the lens of General Systems Theory, Open Systems Theory, and Actor-Network Theory. Three key pillars - strategic networking, communication, and impact measurement - are crucial for creating dynamic and effective impact investing networks that accelerate positive outcomes while also being aware of potential negative consequences. Technology plays a vital role in facilitating actor-actant engagements within impact investing networks, enabling the flow of capital, knowledge, and resources towards social and environmental goals, but its influence must be critically examined. You can find the article through this link. Abstract: Impact investing seeks to generate measurable social and/or environmental impact alongside a financial return. Accordingly, assumed trade-off between financial return and social benefit is no longer a given, with Masdar City demonstrating that the mobilisation of dynamic networks facilitates the growth of impact investments. So as to better understand the complex dynamics of successful impact investing networks, we engage General Systems Theory, Open Systems Theory, and Actor-Network Theory (ANT) as a tripartite conceptual framework. Directly related to this, we show the role of technologies and reveal how network participants enhance distributed agency. We also identify three pillars crucial to the impact investing milieu: strategic innovation, communication, and impact measurement. The article finally observes a set of key outcomes, explores the implications for practice and considers directions for further research. It wasn't until COVID struck and he found himself without a job that he decided to work on the plan. The business turned out to be a huge success.LEARNING: Nothing good comes easy. Don't let job security restrict you from pursuing your entrepreneurial dreams. “No matter how bad your situation might be, the victim card can only be played once. You can't keep playing that card again and again.”Sampark Sachdeva Guest profileSampark Sachdeva has 12 years of corporate experience across Asian Paints and other businesses. He was awarded the best digital coach of 2021 at the India coaching awards. He was a TEDx speaker in 2020 and won the LinkedIn Spotlight Award in 2019, recognizing him as one of India's top content creators. Paul Ryder and Oracle also awarded Sampark as a top marketing and sales professional in 2019.Sampark has trained over 20,000 people across 125 sessions across 10 countries. He has over 125,000 followers across social media channels.Worst investment everSampark had an excellent corporate career. He was with Asian Paints, India's largest paints company, for over five years. In 2015 he moved to Ola, the Indian Uber, and was there for three years. Then he moved to Oyo, the country's largest hospitality brand, for another two years. Sampark won the Top 100 Marketing and Sales Professionals Award during this career journey. So yes, everything was going well on the corporate side.On the passion side, Sampark had been writing on LinkedIn for close to six years. He'd posted over 2000 posts in 2019 and won the LinkedIn Spotlight Award. Everything seemed rosy, and Sampark felt this was the time to take off.In 2020, Sampark moved into a new role in the same organization. But that's when COVID struck. He was in the hospitality industry, leading corporate events. He had just been in that role for a few months when the lockdown occurred. In one day, everything stopped.Sampark sat down with his family, and they looked at their savings. They could survive for a couple of years with what they had. Sampark decided to explore a plan he had put on the back burner. Sampark loved training, and after getting the content creator award, he consulted his mentors on how to make something out of his love for training.They all advised him to work on the plan for the next three to four years and then look at how to do it long-term. But when the lockdown started, the three-year plan became an overnight plan. Sampark decided to give himself four months to execute the plan. If it didn't work, he still had a corporate career to return to after the lockdown.At the end of four months, Sampark did a review and realized the training business was going better than he expected. He gave himself another four months, and it was still going well. He continued doing it until April 2022, when an old boss offered him a job. Sampark turned down the job because his business was doing well. He had trained close to 80,000 people and had a lot of clients in the pipeline. Sampark's only regret is having waited for so long to start his passion venture.Lessons learnedAs a corporate professional, you're restricted by your own thoughts and the false sense of security.Running a business is a hustle because now you have to do everything alone.Networking is crucial. But remember, it's not about transactional relationships;

Well, it's that time again...another year is almost at an end—and once again, we have been subjected to the whims of the universe and human stupidity through 2022... It got better with covid but then we have the war in Ukraine...politics are more polarized than ever no matter where you go...social media is still making us stupider...and try as he might to leave the planet, Elon Musk is still here... When it comes to the world of music, we lost Taylor Hawkins, Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode, Paul Ryder of The Happy Mondays, Mark Lanegan, Dallas Good of The Sadies, Meat Loaf, Ronnie Hawkins, Coolio, Olivia Newton-John, and Ronnie Spector, among others... It's still hard to make a living from streaming, artists are getting burned out on the road, and inflation is killing everyone... That's a lot to deal with...here's hoping that 2023 will be better...we gotta think that because otherwise, we'd go crazy... Before that we pay tribute to both Paul Ryder and Mariusz Lewandowski, both of whom sadly passed away recently, and end the show by looking back at Woodstock 99 on its 23rd birthday. Obviously it was a very controversial, tragic and infamous festival, and much of the blame of what went wrong is laid at the feet of some of the musicians on the bill. While we can't say that those pointing the fingers are being fair or reasonable in that assessment, we thought that maybe there would have been a more suitable way to book the festival to keep the ethos and aura of the original Woodstock more present in people's minds. So both Steve and Sam have fantasy booked the two main stages on all three days of the festival to see what might have been. Changemakers with Clare McKenna

Paul Ryder is probably best known for bursting on to our TV screens on Ireland's Got Talent with his drag act back in 2018. Since then he's gone on to set up his own dance school Proud Dance Academy, he still works as a choreographer, performer and TV presenter. In recent weeks his face can be seen across the country on billboards, bus sides and advertising posters for Centra as part of their Choices Define Us campaign. There are so many standards around the mentioning of brands in broadcast, I'm so trained in that way through my TV and radio work, only a certain number of mentions etc but here I think it's important we mention it lots of times as this is a nationwide supermarket brand and a man in drag is at it's centre, looking fabulous I might add, and the words – Attitude is a Choice. As you'll hear in our interview, this image and message is one that would have helped Paul growing up and he's been contacted by so many people saying it sparked conversations with their kids about freedom to be who you want to be and to express yourself however you see fit,This is incredibly positive change and I was delighted to get a chance to sit down with Paul and ask him everything about that IGT performance, how it was Michelle Visage who gave him the RuPaul Ryder name and that making his Dad proud is at the centre of so many of his decisions.https://linktr.ee/RuPaulRyder Hosted on Acast. Mark "Bez" Berry later joined the band onstage as a dancer/percussionist. Rowetta joined the band as a vocalist in 1990. The group's work bridged the Manchester independent rock music of the 1980s and the emerging UK rave scene, drawing influence from funk, house, and psychedeliato pioneer the Madchester sound.[2] They experienced their commercial peak with the releases Bummed (1988), Madchester Rave On (1989), and Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches (1990), with the last going platinum in the UK. They disbanded in 1993, and have reformed several times in subsequent decades.

As his Twitter bio says, he is a Performer, an MC, a choreographer, a creative, a contributor to Ireland Am and Elaine on Virgin Media Television. Last year in an interview with Hot Press he said “I started out choreographing for drag queens in Dublin,” I knew instinctively I couldn’t really keep the LGBTQ crowd entertained if I didn’t do something a little bit different. So, I said to myself, ‘If you can’t beat the drag queens, join them - but still keep your own vibe!’. And if you saw him on Ireland’s Got Talent you will know that he did that and then some. Paul Spoke to the girls about coming out in Dublin, how he was forced to leave school because of bullying, a recent homophobic incident which left him shook, what success means to him and how the Marriage Referendum Day 2015 is one he will never forget.
