SiX By SiX (featuring Ian Crichton, Nigel Glockler & Robert Berry) launch ‘Obiliex'; second single from forthcoming new album ‘Beyond Shadowland.' SiX By SiX, the progressive power trio comprising Ian Crichton (Saga), Nigel Glockler (Saxon) and Robert Berry (3.2), recently announced the release of their sophomore album ‘Beyond Shadowland' on InsideOutMusic on April 26th, 2024. The band reconvened in Berry's own Soundtek Studios in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2023 to bend, shape, hammer and caress their diverse musical talents into 11 impressive new tracks. With this album, they continue to define and build upon their unique melodic space, welding guitar-driven rock, metal and prog into a unique and powerful sonic setting. The bands self-titled debut, released in 2022, established the trio as a power chord-driven celebration of artistry, passion and persistence. Prog Magazine said that the record was “exciting, often potent and demands repeated listens”, while Classic Rock Magazine called it “an inspired opening salvo that bubbles with chemistry.” SIX BY SIX is … Ian Crichton best known as one of the founding members of Saga, alongside his brother Jim. Saga went on to sell roughly 10 million albums world-wide and continues to perform around the world. Nigel Glockler best known as the drummer for British metal band SAXON. Robert Berry, moved to the UK to work with guitarist Steve Howe (of Yes fame) along with drummer Nigel Glockler to revitalize GTR. When GTR stalled, Robert partnered with British rock legends Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer to form ‘3'. With Emerson and Palmer, Robert achieved a top ten charting single and toured the USA. Robert's melodic sensibilities complement Ian's extraordinary guitar and Nigel's signature drumming perfectly. Today they launch the album's second single, and you can watch the video for ‘Obiliex' here: https://youtu.be/y7QGXoTIvlI PLEASE WELCOME MUSICIAN/SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER/ENGINEER… ROBERT BERRY TO INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS … PREORDER BEYOND SHADOWLAND BY SIX BY SIX (featuring Ian Crichton, Nigel Glockler & Robert Berry) The band's self-titled debut, released in 2022, established the trio as a power cord-driven celebration of artistry, passion, and persistence. This week I've got a plethora of present-day Prog from Luz de Riada, A Secret River, Isildur's Bane, Steve Hackett, Drifting Sun, Big Big Train, and Karfagen! Plus four bands featured in this month's PROG Magazine: Nospun, Aviations, Psychework, and Harp!
Steve Hackett is not only a truly talented guitarist and songwriter but he's a bit of a workaholic. He rewards his fans by touring the world every year, releasing new material on a regular basis and live albums from the themed tours he's led. And though he's in the midst of his Foxtrot at 50 Tour (for which he's already released a live album) we're proud to welcome him back to The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast (hear him ahead of the Foxtrot at 50 Tour on UAWIL #87) as he wraps up his final leg of the tour. The Circus and The Nightwhale is his latest release, an autobiographical concept album of his life growing up near Battersea Power Station, forging out into the world of rock music and eventually finding happiness in his life. It's the most prog/concept album he's offered since he was in Genesis and he speaks with us about how he approached this album differently than others. The opening track People of the Smoke stirs memories of growing up in London and sets the tone for a brilliant album full of tapping, tremolos and other tricks at which Steve is so adept. Hear Steve talk about channeling Jeff Beck, using one of Brian May's guitars and why you don't want him playing bass on your album. He's proud that the album has hit #1 on the UK Rock Chart and to be celebrated on the cover of Prog Magazine. In the second part of the episode, The Wolf & Action Jackson travel to Jacksonville, FL to hear Steve debut songs from The Circus and The Nightwhale live, to hear Foxtrot in its entirety and some classic Hackett solo songs as well. It made for a very special night for your intrepid hosts and one very special episode of UAWIL. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho Andy Glass founded the UK Prog group Solstice in 1980 with violinist Marc Elton and the following 4 years would see them make the Marquee Club their home and take the band to the main stage at Reading Rock Festival, Glastonbury and many others. Following the split in 1985, a change of tack led to touring as guitarist for American soul legends Bill Withers and Geno Washington alongside his work as studio engineer and session musician. After recording Ian Anderson in the studio, Andy was invited to take the job of 'front of house' sound engineer with Jethro Tull leading to five American tours and long outings through Europe and the UK. Nothing would prove as satisfying as playing with Solstice though and so, inevitably, Andy reformed the band in its current line up in 2007. The follow-up to 2020's acclaimed Sia is the band's seventh album, and the second to feature vocalist Jess Holland, who was placed fourth in the Best Female Vocalist category of Prog Magazine's 2022 Readers' Poll (guitarist Andy Glass also ranked 5th in the Guitarist category while the band ranked 8th in Best Band). Big Big Train's Greg Spawton was moved to comment: "Nothing prepared me for the extraordinary new line-up that they have settled on in the last few years. Solstice are back and are back to being brilliant. Their forthcoming album, Light Up, is utterly sensational: beautiful production, great songs, great voices, tricky rhythms and epic guitar solos." The band have lined up some live dates to support the new album, including appearances at Cropredy Festival, London's 229 venue on April 28 and a co-headline performance with fellow 80s neo-prog veterans Trilogy, the first time the two bands have performed with each other since they toured together back in 1983! Hello once again everyone I'm your host Ray Shasho and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends. Brought to you by The Publicity Works Agency specializing in authors & musicians We shine only when We make you shine Call us today at 941-567-6193 Keyboardist Derek Sherinian has more than made a name for himself. After all, MusicRadar.com deemed him “A true shredder, his virtuoso playing has seen him dubbed the keyboard-playing version of Eddie Van Halen,” in 2020. Moreover, in 2021 he was voted Greatest Keyboardist Of The 21st Century, and the eighth Greatest of All Time by the same site, and Prog Magazine saw him voted the ninth Greatest Keyboardist Ever. But then you don't rack up a resumé such as his without some serious chops, having worked with the likes of Dream Theater, Black Country Communion, Billy Idol, Whitesnake - David Coverdale stating in 2020 “Derek plays like the son of Jon Lord”, - Kiss, current band Sons Of Apollo, and Alice Cooper - who in 1989 called him the “Caligula of keyboards”. The new studio album from world acclaimed keyboardist Derek Sherinian, ‘Vortex', is out now! On the new album Sherinian is once again joined by legendary drummer Simon Phillips, who co-wrote and co-produced the album, as well as Tony ‘The Fretless Monster' Franklin, on bass. Derek has this to say about the release of the album: “Simon and I have found the ultimate blend of rock, prog, and fusion on VORTEX, enjoy!” "VORTEX is one of this year's must-have records for musicians and fans of virtuoso rock." Says CLASSIC ROCK Please welcome revered keyboardist who has toured and recorded for Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Joe Bonamassa, and as a member of Dream Theater, Planet X, KISS, Whitesnake and Sons of Apollo …the "Caligula of Keyboards" stated by Alice Cooper …. Join Different Times on the blower to Martin Barre, guitar legend from Jethro Tull now seven albums deep into a strong solo career. His signature solo on the 1971 Jethro Tull standard "Aqualung" was voted by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine as one of the top rock guitar solos of all time, that means it's up there with Slayer's Criminally Insane, right? He ain't mucking around. The likes of Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani & Steve Via count him as an influence but more importantly the readers of Jackie magazine love the guy. Martin Barre's latest album 'Roads Less Travelled' is released on October 5th via Cleopatra Records. Tormato! Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier Tormato, undeniably the greatest Yes album ;-) celebrated 40 years recently. So this week, Mark and I listen again to the much-maligned record to try and find out what everyone else seems to hate. We also dedicate our 2 pence to the 1978 'classic'. Was the production really that bad? Are there any aspects people who don't listen are missing out on? Are there any decent songs? Listen to the episode then let us know what you think! The evening is sponsored by Prog Magazine. DBA is the musical collaboration between the legendary Geoff Downes and Chris Braide who joined forces as the result of their close friendship and passion for music. Bass player Andy Hodge, who worked on the Skyscraper Souls album will be joining DBA on the night. Other guests at Trading Boundaries will include David Longdon (Big Big Train) and David Colquhoun (Francis Dunnery, Go West). Barney Ashton Bullock (poet, songwriter; Andy Bell; Marc Almond) will be doing the narrative on the night. DBA also announce the release of a remixed version of their critically acclaimed 2015 album Suburban Ghosts 2018 on 30th November. The album features new musicians and is remixed by Chris Braide and mastered by Mike Pietrini. Joining original band members Chris Braide (vocals, programming, piano, bass guitar, electric guitar, keyboards) and Geoff Downes – (programming, piano and keyboards) on the remix are: Patrick Howley - electric guitar, Dave Gregory - slide guitar, Lee Pomeroy - bass guitar, Andy Hodge - bass guitar and on Drums - Ash Soan. Wherever musical history is made, Geoff Downes is there. From the first video ever shown on MTV, The Buggles’ Video Killed the Radio Star, Geoff continues to gain acclaim and break musical ground. He is a founding member of Asia whose album of the same name was the biggest selling in the world in 1982. Together with vocalist/bassist, the late John Wetton, they propelled the band’s global success. With the legendary YES, Geoff joined for the critically acclaimed album ‘Drama’ in 1980 and then re-joined for ‘Fly From Here’ in 2011. He continues to tour with both YES and Asia. Christopher Braide is a multi-instrumentalist, Ivor Novello award-winning songwriter and producer who is based in Los Angeles. He is known for his outstanding work with Sia, Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Marc Almond, David Guetta and many more. GQ magazine named him one of the most successful and influential men in the music industry under 40, and he continues to work with A-listers on both sides of the Atlantic. DBA is a labour of love for both Downes and Braide and together they form a unique combination. They have produced three critically acclaimed albums with ‘Skyscraper Souls’ being their most ambitious yet, it features the talents not only of the principals but also guest stars Marc Almond, Kate Pierson (B-52s), Andy Partridge (XTC), Ash Soan (The Voice) and David Longdon (Big Big Train). Chris Braide states: “Working with Geoff on the Skyscraper Souls album and its two predecessors has reacquainted me with the kind of music I love. Epic and euphoric.
