You might have heard of the global ride hailing service called TADA, which was launched back in 2018, but how much do you know about its parent company MVL?  Well, this is an interesting one, because its parent MVL is actually an incentive-based blockchain mobility ecosystem, more so than a transport app maker.   Its consumer facing businesses include the ride hailing service TADA, as well as ONiON Mobility, an electric vehicle manufacturing and battery charging infrastructure brand best known for its electric tuk-tuks in Cambodia Behind the action, MVL also has other business verticals including a decentralised physical mobility infrastructure network that collects mobility data as well as a crypto wallet called Clutch.  The mechanics of the business may be complicated, but MVL said it can be better understood as a player providing Web 3.0 mobility. But what is Web 3.0 mobility exactly? And how does MVL see Tada and ONiON mobility's roles in its blockchain ecosystem?  Aside from the mechanics, MVL is also a company to zoom in on because it is seeing some developments of late relating to Tada and ONiON mobility specifically.  For one thing, Tada had said in August 2024 that it will expand into Hong Kong as authorities there plan to regulate private ride-hailing services. But what were the reasons behind entering Hong Kong, and what are the key drivers of growth for the business?  Where will it expand into next, say Vietnam, after fellow industry player Gojek exited the country after six years? And on ONiON mobility had in May 2022 launched a US$20 million electric motorcycle and three-wheeler assembly plant in Cambodia. But what's next for the firm on this front? On Under the Radar, Money Matters' finance presenter Chua Tian Tian posed these questions to Sean Kim, Chief Executive Officer at TADA Mobility and Chief Operating Officer at MVL.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Helping creators to create "You know, being a creator is not easy. So hats off to creators, for sure. It's a tough, tough space." - Sean Kim (Want to read a full written for reading transcript version of this episode? Download it here.) Who is Sean Kim? Sean Kim is President and Chief Product Officer at Kajabi, and was the ex-head of product at TikTok in the US. He's also been involved with the TV show Shark Tank, and boasts Jeff Bezos - yes THAT Jeff Bezos - among his former colleagues. It's not hard to understand how he would have such roles, when you consider he had such an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. He would sell things at school, collect cans for money and even buy bulk socks from Korea to resell at school for a profit. When he moved to New York, he had to find other ways to make money and one of them was nothing short of a moment of absolute genius involving food and his school mates. What is Kajabi? Kajabi is a website and marketing platform designed to help individuals and businesses create and sell online courses, coaching programs, and digital products. It provides a range of tools and features to help users create a professional-looking website, create and manage online courses, process payments and handle customer data, and market their products through various channels, such as email marketing, webinars, and social media. Kajabi also includes analytics and reporting tools to help users track their sales and customer engagement. It's considered to be something of an all-in-one platform that allows users to create, market and sell digital products and online courses without the need for any other tools or services. When you hear Sean describe his mission, you'll quickly understand how his influence has really spilled into the product. Sean Kim's professional journey Sean Kim had a variety of experiences with start ups. He started with a version of Yelp, where he built the website and went door to door to local restaurants to get them to participate. He also had website start ups that offered website and CMS solutions for local businesses, as well as apps he's worked on. He learned to code and design and used that knowledge to help other local businesses and restaurants with their websites. Despite not being scalable, he found the journey to be valuable, and he shares why in this episode. Responding to the diversity of human brains, or neurodiversity, provides insight into how elements of the built environment including privacy, lighting, acoustics, and textures can impact our experience and productivity. From autism and ADHD to dyslexia, variations in neurocognitive functioning can profoundly shape how we see and experience spaces. Eung Ju Kim (Sean) has become a staple in the Beginner Photography Podcast community since buying his camera in early 2018. Since then he has been sharing his work and it continues to develop and advance. His landscapes and beach scenes are simple and relaxing. Today we talk about what photography means to him and his plans to progress is photography in the future.   Key Takeaways: Starting his photography career with nature sceneries was associated with hiking, which he did more often following a distressing break up with his girlfriend. Sean describes 'finding the beauty of what's there, either in an ugly chaotic scene or in my stage of sadness was the key to finding the true beauty of my journey. Looking back, Sean explains how with experience, he started being able to identify things he could have done differently in a picture and how to look out for such things. Sean explains the motivation behind intentionally creating images with huge surroundings, landscape and people by noting that when we focus on something bigger, our problems seem to be small. His Christian faith also played a role in this preference. Sean explains that he is bored with taking pictures of people, and is trying to figure out what he can add to it. The inspiration for Sean's photography is his Christian faith. For new photographers: Go to a library, read a bunch of books and even if it doesn't make sense, consume it, even if you don't practice it, over time things will start to click. Once things start to click, you will have more questions and you can go and read it again, then it will make sense, and you will gain mastery.   Resources: Follow Sean On Instagram Flash in a Flash - Flash photography for beginners course Join The Beginner Photography Podcast Facebook Group! There's a lot I want to accomplish in life. And I bet there's a lot you want to accomplish, too. So what's stopping us? Usually, in my own life, I can boil it down to one thing. It's not focus. Time stamped show notes: [01:02] Sean grew up as an immigrant. Born in Korea and came to Canada when was about 7 years old. He understands the loneliness that you feel when you are in place like a foreign country and you can't communicate to anyone. [01:26] Sean: Surrounding yourself with people who speak multiple languages and come from multiple cultures is the key to break down barriers in world today.   [06:19] Sean talked about how they started. They early days were just grinding it out in the first year and a half. They started with a blog. Before they came up with the idea, they knew they wanted to be in the language space because of the open market. [08:15] They didn't have capital or an angel investor. It was 100% customer funded. They really had to hustle and push out value, and it eventually paid off for them. [10:28] Sean: Knowledge definitely not a problem. It's simply a lack of discipline, focus, and guidance to fall on a path that is oftentimes going to be a little bit longer than you originally thought. [12:44] Brad: If you have an engine that's fueled by money, the more money you put in here, the more money that comes out over here. [20:53] Seans' journey and failures: Biggest thing that people can relate to, when he started first business they raised  capital and last year in university. He dropped out to full time on the business. [23:51] He was also rejected from US Border after first fulling his business, get a job in New York where he was denied a visa and sent home.   [24:11] In Toronto, about month and half, he was homeless. Lived in hostel for first week and slept on a friend's couch. [24:27] His original goal in Argentina was just to stay there for three months and go back to Toronto. [25:36] The idea of Rype started when he was working, and he was making decent money in Colombia. He realized that he has been on this trip 8 months and did not know Spanish. [25:41] This is where the idea to help busy people learn effectively in an affordable way came through. [27:45] Eventually they started creating 4 figures a month, then 5 figures a month, and just started growing and growing from there. [28:17] Biggest challenges along the way being a one man team. [32:50] What's next for Sean: The vision and mission is to continue to grow. The high level of mission is help people that are busy, that are impacting world improve. Next move is shifting into a  different industry. Initially they want to help people with languages, but eventually they are going to help people learn faster by reading books faster, optimize health, mental mindsets.

After quitting one of the top Universities in Canada to move to New York, Sean Kim sold everything he owned and headed south. But when he reached the U.S. border, he was denied entry and the visa he'd been relying on for his new life, was revoked. This unfortunate turn of events took him all the way to Argentina with no money and no plan. In an effort to avoid any additional shame on his traditional Asian family, he was determined to make it work.  Through geo-arbitrage, ingenious personal branding, and his entrepreneurial spirit, Sean went from nothing to building a successful language learning business, and hosting an inspirational podcast with some of today's most well-known authors and thought leaders.  "I booked the ticket and naively believed that I would figure things out."
