Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Bridging Racial Divides Through Mutual Accountability and UnityJoining me today is Dr. George Yancey, a distinguished sociologist, professor at Baylor University, and the author of Beyond Racial Division. George is also another of our esteemed members of the ProHuman foundation Board of Advisors. Dr. Yancey's work is both refreshing and deeply needed. While so much of the current conversation around race is polarized—whether it's the call for colorblindness or the push for anti-racism—he critiques these approaches for their shortcomings. Instead, he advocates for something radically different: mutual accountability, genuine dialogue, and active listening. His Christian-based model for race relations offers practical steps to foster understanding and unity while humanizing, rather than stigmatizing, individuals. In Beyond Racial Division, Dr. Yancey challenges us to confront the complexities of race without falling into the traps of identity politics or reinforcing division. He emphasizes that finding common ground is valuable, but it's not always necessary for meaningful connection. It's about creating better conversations, not just louder ones.Dr. Yancey's work aligns closely with the mission of organizations like the Pro Human Foundation, which is committed to promoting unity and a pro-human message. As someone deeply invested in bringing people together, I can't wait to unpack his insights and explore how we can all play a role in bridging divides.TakeawaysGeorge Yancey's work focuses on bridging divides in society. His book 'Beyond Racial Division' offers practical steps for addressing racial issues.Colorblindness ignores the realities of racial discrimination.Anti-racism can create a backlash and reinforce division.Mutual accountability is essential for effective dialogue.Active listening is crucial for understanding differing perspectives.Conversations should aim to humanize rather than stigmatize individuals.Identity politics can negatively impact well-being.Finding common ground is important, but not always necessary.Organizations like the Pro Human Foundation play a vital role in promoting unity.Learn more about and connect with George YaWhat have you done today to make your life a better life? Navigating Burke's non-linear prose and archaic language can be a challenge, but the journey reveals some useful insights into conservatism, morality, and societal order. Recorded live at Lytham Hall in Lancashire on a walk and talk with my Labrador "Ella" around the grounds and gardens of this lovely manor house built at the same time Burke first became an elected member of the British Parliament.Contents:Burke's Background and Influences:Born in 1729 in Dublin, Burke's upbringing, with a Protestant father and Catholic mother, shaped his diverse perspective. Initially involved in law, he later embraced literature and philosophy, catching the attention of literary giant Samuel Johnson. His foray into national politics in the 1760s marked the beginning of a three-decade career in the House of Commons.Key Ideas from "Reflections on the Revolution in France" (1790):Burke's critique of the French Revolution centered on its perceived destruction of societal fabric and traditional institutions, notably the mistreatment of the Church. His famous quote, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing," underscores individual moral responsibility against wrongdoing.Burke's Conservatism:Although Burke never explicitly used the term "conservative" in his time, his principles became foundational for modern conservatism. HReligious and Moral Foundations:Burke's worldview was deeply rooted in a divine order, viewing history as the unfolding of God's will. He saw religion as a source of moral strength and emphasized the role of traditions in shaping character and guiding behaviour.Skepticism Towards Ambitious Schemes:Burke's skepticism extended to ambitious government plans, as seen in his critique of the French Revolution's pursuit of a uniform system. He valued the English system, emphasizing its finely tuned rights and balanced evolution across centuries.Consent of the Governed and Living Contract:Contrary to Locke and Hobbes, Burke dismissed the idea of starting politically from scratch. He viewed society as a living contract inherited from ancestors, emphasizing the responsibility to preserve this heritage for future generations. Burke's criticism of the French Revolution went beyond politics; it reflected his belief in the flawed nature of humans. His Christian perspective valued the preservation of moral and social traditions, aligning with the notion of original sin.Burke's Caution on the idea of Freedom:Burke cautioned against unrestrained freedom, emphasizing the need for order, stability, and shared values. His skepticism toward unbridled free speech reflects a nuanced understanding of the delicate balance between individual liberties and societal order. As I muse on Burke's ideas, I think they offer some valuable insights into the ongoing debates on governance, tradition, and societal evolution. Quiet Time Coaching Episode 502 | New Thing Series — Part 57 | “Peter's Breakfast - Part 2” | Malcolm Cox Introduction A new thing! I'm Malcolm Cox. Welcome to your daily devotional podcast anchored in Isaiah 43:19: 'See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.' We are currently looking at God doing a new thing in the life of the Apostle Peter. Today we explore Peter's breakfast.  “He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go.” (He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) After this he said to him, “Follow me.”” (John 21:17-19 NRSV) Peter's breakfast - The conversation is difficult - Peter repeats himself - Peter feels hurt by the responses of Jesus - Jesus is not afraid to hurt his friend - Jesus expresses faith and hope in Peter For Reflection Peter could have continued with the mission without this healing, but it would have been a hollow ministry fuelled by guilt and shame attempting to make up for his mistakes by hard work - a man-centred motivation. But Jesus wanted him to have joy. There is no joy in self-redemption.  Or he could have allowed himself to fill up with despair. His Christian life then would be characterised by pessimism and a culture of negativity (disguised as a cross-focussed attitude).  Again, no joy.  Do you believe that Jesus wants you to experience joy in following him? Self-denial and joy do not cancel each other out. When we are serving Jesus because we love him, the experience of being a Christian is wholeheartedly positive, even though at times punctuated by lament and sorrow. Why not take some time today to pray about finding the link between self-denial and joy? Conclusion I hope you find your heart, your life, your congregation and your world inspired by God doing a new thing. Until tomorrow, take care, and God bless.  Please add your comments on this week's topic. We learn best when we learn in community. Do you have a question about teaching the Bible? R.E.M. Takes a Stand on Space

Hello Interactors,Who would've thought that R.E.M.'s hit tune "Stand" held the secrets to Western spatial thinking? This week I break it down for you. From Aristotle's "Stand in the place where you live" to Newton's "Carry a compass to help you along," it's like they were dropping knowledge bombs all along! So next time you get this '80s hit stuck in your head, remember, you're getting a crash course in geographic philosophy. Rock on!As interactors, you're special individuals self-selected to be a part of an evolutionary journey. You're also members of an attentive community so I welcome your participation. Please leave your comments below or email me directly. Now let's go…IT'S FIXEDR.E.M.'s 1988 hit single, Stand, starts with this chorus:Stand in the place where you liveNow face northThink about directionWonder why you haven't beforeNow stand in the place where you wereNow face westThink about the place where you liveWonder why you haven't beforeFollowed by this verse:If you are confused, check with the sunCarry a compass to help you alongYour feet are going to be on the groundYour head is there to move you aroundWithout knowing it, they outlined what one researcher regards as the complete set of Western thought on space and place. In 1996, history and philosophy of geography professor Michael Curry identified just four distinct, but relational, notions of space that emerged two thousand years ago but continue to shape Western thought today.Curry's four main categories of space provide a framework for understanding different conceptualizations of space. These notions have influenced philosophical and scientific perspectives on space throughout history. Here they are:1. Static, Hierarchical, and Concrete Space (Aristotle 384-322 BC):This notion of space was influenced by Aristotle. It suggests objects and events have their natural places within the world. Aristotle associated the elements of earth, air, fire, and water with their respective natural places – a rock falls back to earth, water finds its way back to water, air flows to air, and fire moves upwards. This perspective views space as fixed and objects, and their elements, as being in specific positions within it. Curry reminds us that despite what modern science may say about the atomic structures and behavior of the world, we can see – as Aristotle did – that a bubble rises through water to find air like a frightened toddler running to their mother. And even with the best throw, there's no separating a rock from its mother earth. Aristotle embraced a qualitative notion of science, informed by what he perceived to be true. Even when we may know we're deceived. For example, we have to remind ourselves that the earth is not fixed and the sun does not set, even though it appears to be true.Aristotle's notion of space remained in Europe throughout the Middle Ages and guided all thought and action. But even though this Aristotelian common-sense view of the world can be seen even today, Curry notes that in 1277 the Church did its part to stamp it out. The Catholic church's passing of Condemnation of 1277 aimed at eradicating Aristotelian teachings. The Church also embraced mathematics in the Middle Ages, though later challenged advances in math that conflicted with religious doctrine, recognizing its truth, contribution to education, and sensing the economic and intellectual power it wielded. As the Enlightenment awoke, and with it the rise of Church-backed European geopolitical power, a more exacting view of space emerged. Surveying was ripped from the Roman ages and with it the gridding of land for political, economical, and military organizing and domination. Then, in the mid to late 1600s, Descartes further quantified space by marrying elements of algebra to geometry imbued with Christian religiosity. He, and the Church, preached – like Plato did – that this model of mathematical certainty is the bases of all knowledge. So, while the common sense, observational, and qualitative views of Aristotle are still with us today, they don't have nearly the influence over science Cartesian approaches do. Which leads us to Curry's second big influence on our notion of space.2. Absolute Grid Space (Newton 1642-1727):The second notion of space is most often associated with Isaac Newton. This conceptualization of space is influenced by Descartes and views space as an absolute grid. In this view, space is considered an infinite and independent entity within which objects exist and events occur. It is a framework where positions, distances, and directions can be precisely defined, a fixed reference frame allows for the measurement and calculation of an object's position and movement. Curry reminds us that Newton is largely regarded as a secular contributor to science, but like Descartes his work is riddled with religious overtones. His Christian view of space as infinite and eternal, where objects and motion are the work of an omnipresent God, are found in his 1686 Fundamental Principles of Natural Philosophy. He says God“is eternal and infinite, omnipotent and omniscient…He endures forever and is everywhere present. He is omnipresent not virtually only but also substantially…In him are all things contained and moved, yet neither affects the other; God suffers nothing from the motion of bodies, bodies find no resistance from the omnipresence of God.”But Newton's voice and influence was not alone. Which gets us to number three.IT'S ALL RELATIVE3. Relational Space (Leibniz 1646-1716):The third notion of space was influenced by Newton's contemporary Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. He argued for a relational understanding of space. While adopting the scientific outlook of Newton, Leibniz attacked Newton's absolutist approach tinged with Christian orthodoxy. Whereas Newton rejected the senses, as they may deceive God's power and will, Leibniz emphasized the importance of considering how we sense relationships among objects and events. Because our eyes (with the help of our brain) can sense objects moving relative to one another, Leibniz argued space is fundamentally defined by these relationships. The positions and properties of objects are interdependent. This relational view highlights the dynamic and interconnected nature of spatial relationships that comes from motion of one object relative to another. This notion of spatial relationships, that some objects appear to move in absolute space while others remain stationary has echoes of both Descartes and Newton but without metaphysical religiosity. It also embraces elements of a human-centeredness that culminates in unique and individual spatial perceptions. This opened the door to number four.4. Imposed Form Space (Kant 1724-1804):The last notion of space, associated with the philosopher Immanuel Kant, challenges the previous perspectives by positing that space is something imposed on the world by humans. Kant argued that space is not an inherent quality of the external world but rather a framework through which humans perceive and organize their experiences. In this view, space is a subjective construct that shapes our understanding of the world.Kant very much believed in Descartes and Newton's mathematical truths in how to describe the world and how objects behave, but in his 1781 Critique of Pure Reason he questioned what we can really know about the world given it's all skewed by our perceptions. Curry recalls that Kant himself regard this shift in thinking as a ‘Copernican Revolution'. Just as Copernicus reoriented the universe by centering planets around the sun, Kant believed his critique of reason shifts the center of knowledge from what was thought to be known to the perception of the knower. He observed that even though something can be shown to be mathematically true, like gravity, we can't see gravity. We can calculate wind speed, but we can't see what caused the air to move. Kant's revolution opened the door for radical alternatives to describing the world, including the discovery of non-Euclidean geometry just thirty years after Kant's publication.Curry's four notions of Western spatial thought just may have culminated in a pop hit single in the 1980s. Aristotle would have liked that R.E.M. suggest we “check with the sun” given his version of space is all about the fixed positions of natural elements. Newton would commend them on advising to “carry a compass to help you along” an absolute grid space. Leibniz would remind the confident compass holder that while “your feet are going to be [at a point] on the ground, your head is there to move you around” relative to that point. And Kant would have told everyone to just stop and “think about the place where you live, wonder why you haven't before.” This is a public episode. Bible Reading: Acts 12:5-7, 11-17"Mom, can I have this?" asked Tayden. "I found it in the garage." He held out a flowerpot containing a dry geranium plant. "At school today, we watched a video about a desert that was bare and brown with only a few cactus plants. Then it rained, and when the sand soaked up the rain, new life sprang up. There were green bushes and even some flowers." Tayden grinned. "I want to see if this plant will come back to life if I water it and take care of it.""Go ahead," said Mom, so Tayden put the potted plant into a pan of water. After the dry soil absorbed a lot of water, he set the pot on a sunny windowsill. A few days later, he found small green shoots springing out of the stem. "Remember that dead-looking plant?" Tayden asked his mom. "Come and see it now!" Mom came to look, and together they admired the new growth. Later that day, Mom got a call from someone at church. "Mr. Matthews had a heart attack," she said when she hung up. "He's in serious condition, and they're asking everyone to pray for him.""Does it help to have lots of people pray?" Tayden asked. "Or to pray a lot yourself?" "Well, the Bible tells us to pray--it brings results," said Mom. "Just like you flooded your geranium with water, we need to flood things in our lives with prayer. Do you remember the story in the Bible of how Peter was rescued from prison? His Christian friends spent the night in prayer for him, and we should be faithful in praying for others too." "If we pray for Mr. Matthews, does that mean God will heal him?" Tayden asked."I hope He will, but He may not," said Mom. "But even if God doesn't answer our prayers the way we want Him to, He still uses our prayers to remind people of His love and power and point them to Jesus. The Bible tells us He works through the prayers of His people to do wonderful things. We can trust Him to do that even when things don't go the way we wish they would."Tayden nodded. "Let's pray for Mr. Matthews right now," he said, and they bowed their heads. -Nathan RunyonHow About You?Have you ever joined in a flood of prayer? Perhaps you prayed for someone who was sick or had some other urgent need. Maybe you had an important need and people prayed for you. Remember to talk to Jesus regularly about everything going on in your life, but don't be afraid to ask other believers to join you in a flood of prayer when you need it. God will use your prayers and those of other Christians to do wonderful things.Today's Key Verse:The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Greg Bryan and Jim Reske talk about the fight for the gospel reflecting on church history. So what was all the fuss about?  Bruce Shelley, in his book “Church History in Plain Language,” provides an excellent summary of the controversy (emphasis added): What did Pelagius teach to arouse Augustine's vigorous opposition?  The monk denied that human sin is inherited from Adam. Man, he said, is free to act righteously or sinfully... Almost all the human race have sinned; but it is possible not to sin, and some people have in fact lived without sin.  [God's] forgiveness comes to all who exercise “faith alone”; but, once forgiven, man has power of himself to live pleasing to God... His idea of the Christian life was practically the Stoic conception of ascetic self-control. Amazing.  It's as though Pelagius had the single-line drawing right there in front of him.  Jesus starts you out in the Christian life, but the rest is up to you.  Justification is through Christ, but sanctification is through hard work and effort.  Pelagius said that God would never give you a command that you couldn't fulfill; you just need to make better choices.  Just like me, he may have added.  Pelagius didn't just think he was a 9 on a scale of 1-10; he thought it was completely possible to be a perfect 10, if you just tried hard enough. Augustine was the polar opposite of Pelagius.  Before he became a Christian, he had a very explicit problem with sexual self-control. We know this because Augustine himself wrote all about it in his “Confessions”.  He was very much aware of his own totally depraved sinful nature, and the need for complete and total grace to save him from it.  Pelagius thought that grace was a “nice to have”, but not a necessity because it was completely possible for a person to make all the right choices and avoid sin entirely if they just tried hard enough.  Augustine would have none of it.  Shelley explains (emphasis added): Augustine sensed profoundly the depth of his sin and hence the greatness of God's salvation.  He felt that nothing less than irresistible divine power (grace) could have saved him from his sin and only constantly inflowing divine grace could keep him in the Christian life.  His Christian ideal was no Stoic self-control, but love for righteousness infused by the Spirit of God. In other words, Augustine was very aware of his sin (the lower line).  And though he had been a Christian for some time by the time he met Pelagius, he was growing in that awareness, because as he fought Pelagius, he said that he had no power in himself to do the right thing; all power to do good was completely a gift from God by grace.  Christian growth wasn't a matter of hard work and effort – it was all by grace.  Augustine's focus was squarely on the grace of Jesus (the growing cross), not his own spiritual performance, and as a result, his life changed (the dotted line). But as Dr. John Hannah, the church historian who taught at Dallas Theological Seminary, explains, all good controversies invite a compromiser who will try to synthesize the two positions.   That person was Cassian.  Hannah explains that:·      Pelagius taught that sin does not corrupt a person's mind, will, and emotions, such that we are spiritually alive; and·      Augustine taught that sin completely corrupts a person's mind, will, and emotions, such that we are spiritually dead (total depravity); but·      Cassian taught that sin only hinders a person's mind, will, and emotions, such that we need help (deprivation, but not depravity). In Cassian's view, the grace of God and the will of man work together in salvation.  In other words, God helps those who help themselves.  Which is a lot like the single-line view of the world.

If Saturday/Sabbath is the Seal of God and he gave it to His Christian church those who are heirs of salvation; then what is Sunday, to Christians, an error? Then we have millions who believed in error; of which I was one of them at one time. Remember Eve believed in an error/lie and disobeyed God; now by doing so, her and Adam brought death upon the whole human race. Israel did believe Moses preaching and they wouldn't enter into God's rest his Promised Land. Well is Sunday the seal of Satan/Antichrist the mark of the beast? Stay tuned! Well we know it's a lie given by Constantine the Great the Roman Emperor, who profess Christianity, whom was also laden with some pagan philosophies and one being the sun God "Sol Invictus" of Rome, so to relieve these persecuted Christians he could please both Romans and Christians, he would end the Christian's persecution but charge them with worship on Sundays to appease the well accepted sun god of Rome. Though it had Satan written all over it, it was a way to relieve the suffering of God's people. And it's been pass down through the ages via the church. Satan knows once he cause someone to form a bad habit, it's hard to break! So don't rock the boat... you've got what you wanted. Those who have been Bewitched by Satan to believe the Sunday lie over the Sabbath truth, will one day need to make some changes. That's where my brother Paul was going when he was speaking in (Hebrews 4:1-11) He wanted to make sure people do not miss out on there entrance into the kingdom of God and later the Kingdom of Heaven, the true promised land; new Jerusalem of God's people: Heaven. Just as the promised land of Israel of old to enter into Canaan, a land which later would encompass Old Jerusalem, which was a shadow of things to come, but the true promised Land is the New Jerusalem where God dwells and he want us to show up there, now as in old Jerusalem the same with New Jerusalem the ticket to get there was faith to believe in God's promise and we know Jesus Christ is God's promise and our ticket to Heaven and the new Jerusalem. Church ironically the ticket is the same our faith in Jesus Christ coupled with God's grace = "we're saved in heaven." Amen! “Pressing Towards The Prize~ Philippians 3:12-21.Theme Chpt. 3 “Christ Our Goal” Philippians 3:12-21 12 Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [d]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already [e]attained, let us walk by the same [f]rule, let us be of the same mind.17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. The Christian Life shown in A Metaphor of An Olympic Marathon Race Pursuing the Prize 3:12-13 A Good runner Never Looks Back 3:13 This Race requires Spiritual Stamina & Consistency 3:15-17 Some have dropped out of the Race 3:18-19 Knowing Our citizenship will Cause us to win the Prize 3:20-21 1.)Pursuing The PRIZE…3:12-13 “The measure of a persons desire is the Pursuit” Vs. 12)Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me “Grasping ever more firmly that purpose for which Christ grasps me”- JB .Phillips “PRESS ON”- the Greek connotation means ‘an urgent chasing after towards a FIXED Goal or Point' This is in the continuous present tense I am DOING this NOW, I am chasing after this NOW…I am PRESSING Towards  this NOW “That I May Lay Hold of” The idea here is Paul is not just satisfied with the pursuit…HE will NOT be satisfied until  he has laid hold of, apprehended, GRASPED ( taken a hold of) that PURPOSE Christ has intended for Him 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 2:8-10 1.)Pursuing The PRIZE…3:12-14 “The measure of a persons desire  is in  the Pursuit” Vs. 12)Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me “, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has LAID HOLD of Me”….speaking of His Damascus Road ENCOUNTER of Christ…yet MUCH More!!.....  (TWO Things) I Cor. 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. TWO Things………… a)Phil. 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, b)Eph. 3:1-13 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—2 Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3 that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. 4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. 8 Although I am less than the least of all the Lord's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, 9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. 10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. 13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. MYSTERY (Mysterion- Moo-stay-dion..Grk.)derived from a word meaning to ‘shut the mouth'…a secret counsel, purpose, or understanding…of God…something hidden from men…only coming from divine revelation or illumination from God's Spirit…requires an initiation understand my insight …(synesis—soon-es-is) literally a running or flowing together of Knowledge & understanding…a quickness of apprehension which precedes ACTION! “To Have an APOSTOLIC CALLING, Is To Have An APOSTOLIC ENCOUNTER” 1.)Pursuing The PRIZE…3:12-14 “The measure of a persons desire is in the Pursuit” Vs.13)Brethren, I do not count myself to have [d]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, Count ( logizomai )is to reckon, account, suppose , consider after deliberate  & careful Thought …refers  back to vs. 12…Paul realizes he has NOT attained perfection yet (some were haughty at Philippi & thought they did!)…sinless perfection!? …vs. 2 was the past fact that had happened with Paul…Here is referring to PRESENT Process of his pursuit Phil. 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, LUKE 14:25-33 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish'? 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. Apprehended ….But I keep going on, grasping ever more firmly that purpose for which Christ grasped me.(JB. Phillips)…like verse 12 Job 17:9 Yet the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger. Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the just is like the shining [a]sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Psalm 84:2 My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. I Tim. 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith Lay hold of eternal life II Peter 1:5 giving all diligence 2.) A Good Runner Never Looks Back..Vs. 13,14 Vs.13)Brethren, I do not count myself to have [d]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, but one thing I do What is your ONE Thing!?...sums up His Christian conduct & purpose in the NOW…the greek implies LIMITING & ISOLATING oneself to a fanatical Focus…NOW he has gone from contemplation(‘Count' vs 13) to ALL OUT ACTION Mode! forgetting those things which are behind Forgetting  grk….completely forgetting, to neglect, EMPHATICALLY forget & neglect (obliterate the memory!!)…Here Paul in His metaphor about a runner in a race is referring to that Runner NOT even looking back AT ALL or paying a bit of attention to runners behind him as he races toward the goal….VERY good picture of our Christian RACE…just like a racer impedes his progress with this distraction so likewise we will be hindered in our progress for the prize IF we are looking at our past sin ,shame & failures…. Luke 9:62  But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”….Genesis 19:26 Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. reaching forward… (EPEKTEINO) A stretching forward…a reaching forward in an INTENSE athletic motion (hence comparison to a marathon race) 14 ) I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. I press toward the goal (kjv=Mark) only used here in NT LITERALLY  “ I Pursue down upon the target”……concepts of a watchman (Phil. 2:4)& shooting target shown here For the Prize…A prize (brabeion-grk. Derived from the word for an umpire who gives the prize) bestowed or deposited  in connection with the games…it could be monetary… here used as a metaphor for spiritual  incorruption & eternal life of the upward call  literally “of The upward calling” is A CALL from Heaven TO HEAVEN ( (NOT our earthly life's calling here)…our eternal reward   2.) A Good Runner Never Looks Back..Vs. 13,14 14 ) I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Hebrews 3:1,2 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. “The prize is bound up with the calling ; promised when the call is issued, & given when the call is fulfilled”~M.R. Vincent I Cor. 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. “This goal continually moves forward as we press on ,but never out of sight”~A.T. Robertson Luke 16:16 “The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. II Tim. 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Hebrews 6:1..I Cor. 4:16-18…II Peter 1:3   3.)This Race Requires Spiritual Stamina & Consistency… 3:15-17 15-17Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already [e]attained, let us walk by the same [f]rule, let us be of the same mind.17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern This IS a Marathon Race  …Cross Country MemoriesJ “Mature/Perfect”  Grk. =Telios complete, perfect, mature, of full age finished, ‘wanting nothing'…Col.1:28, Col. 4:12,II Tim. 3:16-17,Hebrews 5:13 Contradiction, Sarcasm !?(vs. 12 Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected) Vs. 12 Paul was speaking of a TOTAL FINISHED PERFECTION ( received in Heaven)…here in vs. 15 he speaks relatively…where though some may have reached maturity (Himself included)there is STILL Growth & Development to be obtained…this speaks of well rounded Christian Character NOT Christian Infancy “Have This Mind” in other words KEEP thinking like the above phrase I Cor. 2:6 6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.   3.)This Race Requires Spiritual Stamina & Consistency… 3:15-17 15-17Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already [e]attained, let us walk by the same [f]rule, let us be of the same mind.17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern IF and if in anything you think otherwise…Epaphroditus had made Paul aware of some in the church who were teaching sinless perfection was needed…he said God would take care of the issue Psalm 139:23-24 Search Me & Try me… Jn. 7:17 17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. “otherwise” a negative use of the word…as some in Philippi thought they had ‘arrived' spiritually, with no further growth needed!? Vs. 16) Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already [e]attained, let us walk by the same [f]rule, let us be of the same mind….meaning ‘Keep on Keepin' on…keep doing the same things consistently that MATURE saints do LITERAL….to walk in a straight row….walk  prosperously,,,to turn out well, to direct ones life..TO LIVE Vs. 17) 17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern Together or jointly as the church Be Imitators of (me) Paul as he follows Christ (Not Christ here)…of how I walk the Christian Life…I Cr.4:16, 11:1…Hebrews13:7 “Note” = Mark = fix your attention on intently.. Ps. 37:7 Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace. JAMES 1:4-5 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be [a]perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 4.) Some have dropped out of the Race Vs. 3:18,19 18-19 )For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. Professed Christian Greeks, possibly had walked with the Philippian church in times past but fell into Epicurean tendencies…Epicureanism taught satisfying physical desires was the highest aim of man (sex, food drink)…GAL. 5:13 13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Romans 16:18 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord [a]Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. They thought Lightly of God's Grace Romans 6:15 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord [a]Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. Jude 1:4 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord [a]God and our Lord Jesus Christ.(see vs. 12,13) I Jn. 2:16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.   5.) Knowing Our Citizenship will cause us to Win the Race(Prize) 3:20,21 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Citizenship is In Heaven …commonwealth…literally ‘The commonwealth of which the Saints are citizens is FIXED in the Heavens' Eagerly wait……An Intense Yearning & eager anticipation…totally FIXED on what one is waiting for , with a total ABOUT face from inferior things(see running for the prize) Hebrews 9:28 so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him. so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him   Vs. 21)Transform/change …to fashion a new,Refashion.. Matthew 17:2 He was transfigured before them…a change in the body from what's on the inside to an outward expression of that…the change that will take place at the Rapture or 2nd Resurrection Col. 1:22 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— WORKING = energeia …energy…power in operation I Jn. 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. Romans 8:23 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. I Cor. 15:42-48  So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[a]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also a   CONCLUSION: This RACE that our Christian Lives is compared to requires Patience & Persistence On Being Persistent: Obstinately refusing to give up or Let Go To Be Insistently Repetitive To Commit to being Indefinitely Continuous 07/25/22

The occupation of Hungary by the Third Reich changed the life of its citizens, especially Jews, forever, to prove that even in the darkest times, there are people who want to do the right thing and are willing to put themselves in grave danger to help others. One of them was Carl Lutz, a Swiss diplomat who saved over 62,000 Jews in the most extensive rescue operations of Jews of the Second World War. His Christian upbringing and the things he saw during the Conflict Arab-Jewish in 1936 set his future path to help as many Jews he could. With the interventions of Carl Lutz, stepdaughter Agnes Hirschi-Grausz we can understand his personality and the frustration he had to handle for not being recognized by his country when he was still alive. The final thoughts about a man who was a hidden and unlikely hero and what we can learn to put into action in the present. How to Facilitate Leadership and Coaching Skills in a Team

In this episode, Gary talks about his journey as a coach and how he learned to facilitate an already talented team with his leadership and coaching skills. If all the members of the team are already talented, how did he create a safe space for the players to thrive in? The keys to good leadership according to him and the experiences and lessons from his own journey start with defining leadership for himself. He asked himself "How are you going to lead?" "How do I help this team to become the best versions of itself?" So he decided that if he has something to offer, that will differentiate him from any other coach, it would be that he would work tirelessly with the players and he is not going to tell anyone what to do. He made 3 points that guided his leadership coaching throughout the three years he was appointed: 1. He wanted to be available to each player individually. 2. He is not going to tell the media what he is doing. He did very few press conferences during his time as a coach to the Indian team. 3. He decided to lead by example. His Christian values were very important as his guidelines, and he communicated that. Also, Gary said his team was quite shocked when he lost his temper - once - no one was expecting that! He did his best to facilitate this journey so that he and the team had the time of their lives while working towards a common goal. #coaching #garykirsten #leadership --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/stories-that-inspire/message

Eung Ju Kim (Sean) has become a staple in the Beginner Photography Podcast community since buying his camera in early 2018. Since then he has been sharing his work and it continues to develop and advance. His landscapes and beach scenes are simple and relaxing. Today we talk about what photography means to him and his plans to progress is photography in the future.   Key Takeaways: Starting his photography career with nature sceneries was associated with hiking, which he did more often following a distressing break up with his girlfriend. Sean describes 'finding the beauty of what's there, either in an ugly chaotic scene or in my stage of sadness was the key to finding the true beauty of my journey. Looking back, Sean explains how with experience, he started being able to identify things he could have done differently in a picture and how to look out for such things. Sean explains the motivation behind intentionally creating images with huge surroundings, landscape and people by noting that when we focus on something bigger, our problems seem to be small. His Christian faith also played a role in this preference. Sean explains that he is bored with taking pictures of people, and is trying to figure out what he can add to it. The inspiration for Sean's photography is his Christian faith. For new photographers: Go to a library, read a bunch of books and even if it doesn't make sense, consume it, even if you don't practice it, over time things will start to click. Once things start to click, you will have more questions and you can go and read it again, then it will make sense, and you will gain mastery.   Resources: Follow Sean On Instagram Flash in a Flash - Flash photography for beginners course Join The Beginner Photography Podcast Facebook Group! The Book of Wisdom or Wisdom of Solomon 7:26 "She's the brightness that shines forth from eternal light. She's a mirror that flawlessly reflects God's activity. She's the perfect image of God's goodness" I love to gaze at the brightness of the moon and stars at night. They are a reminder of God's great creations but they are also a reminder of the power of reflection. The moon and stars have no power unto themselves but rather give off beauty and direction in reflection of the Sun. Jesus said "I am the light of the world" so if He is the Sun we, as His Christian followers, are the moon and stars. Remind yourself of that purpose, that inner light that reflects within you. It is a reflection of Our Heavenly Father and of the love of Jesus. Let your light shine! This world is full of wayward travelers lost in darkness, looking for direction. Drown out that darkness, be the reflection, and show them the way.

Would you be able to forgive the person who nearly killed you? Bret Lynn, a mechanic from the suburbs north of Philadelphia, was faced with this very question after a terrifying altercation that left him fighting for his life. Arriving home from dropping his kids off at gymnastics, Bret noticed a person attempting to break into some of the cars in a lot of his family-owned shop, which is in close proximity to his home. When he told the man to leave, the situation escalated quickly and before he knew it, Bret had been stabbed and was in critical condition. While in the ambulance, Bret recalled being in great pain — but he also found himself thinking a great deal about forgiveness. His Christian faith called him to be forgiving — but would he be able to do it when it mattered most? “If I couldn't forgive when it really mattered, then I think my witness as a Christian would be hurt,” Lynn said of his attacker. Feeling convicted by the Holy Spirit to “resolve the conflict” with his attacker. “My heart went out to him,” Bret said, explaining that his attacker had fallen on hard times. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fascinatinginsights/message

Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1439 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday. Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection. You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life, Meditation includes reading and reflecting on God's Word and in prayer. It is a time to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and making sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body. As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope and prayer that you, too, will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.  We are continuing a new series this week on Meditation Monday, which will focus on Mastering Bible Study through a series of brief insights from Hebrew Scholar, Dr. Michael S. Heiser. Our first few insights will focus on study habits to build a strong foundation. Today let us meditate on: The Goal of Bible Study·      Insight Five: Insist on Being a Slave to the Text – Let it be Your MasterDr. Heiser has been in academia for almost thirty years, both as a graduate student and a professor. He has spent time in both Christian and secular institutions. His Christian experience taught him the fundamentally important lesson of having a high view of Scripture. Treat it as God's Word. Dr. Heiser's secular years taught him a lesson just as valuable, and one that he didn't find consistently in a Christian context: be a slave to the text. In his secular experience, being a slave to the text meant that you shouldn't bring prior commitments to the biblical text you're studying. Theological ideas about how the text came about or how it might be understood to achieve a theological outcome should be left behind. The text is all that matters. Theological commitments are irrelevant and, in fact, impediments to understanding. This is, of course, what one would expect in a secular institution. They aren't seminaries. However, there's a bit of a flaw in this understanding. Objectivity is a myth. No one can jettison all preconceptions about something, no matter what the context. The secular scholar has presupposition of his or her own that crouch in the mind, ready to influence interpretation. We all should be aware of that, so take that part with a grain of salt. But don't lose the lesson here. The text is all that matters, so we must let the text take us wherever it leads. Ironically, despite the pervading belief in inspiration, I don't see this principle consistently practiced in Christian academia. True, any given seminary has, and needs to have, certain theological commitments, but those theological commitments should not be the basis of judging scholarship or handing out grades. Rather, professors should be forthright. They should have well- informed exegetical arguments for their positions (presumably those of the school) but should be honest with the text. They should admit that, given other interpretations about the Hebrew or Greek grammar and word usage here and there, the conclusions drawn from a passage could be different. To hide those possibilities or manipulate the text to your “obvious” conclusions is dishonest. So it should be with personal Bible study. The text is what is inspired, and nothing else. Loyalty to God's Word means...

Many companies are designed with values and virtues in mind. Fibrebond, a leader in the manufacturing of mission critical structures, is no different, considering itself built on a firm basis of Christian faith. It’s embedded into the company’s and the city of Minden, Lousiana's culture, and actually had a significant influence on the founding of the company. To discuss how Fibrebond’s foundation of faith shapes the company, Durwin Adams, manufacturing supervisor and onsite chaplain, breaks down the company's decision to bring a chaplaincy program to their employees. Adams is also the senior pastor at Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Gibsland, Louisiana. “The founder of the company, Claud Walker, was led by the Lord to start the company and bring this business to the community of Minden. His Christian faith was a guiding principle in starting Fibrebond,” Adams said. And Adams knows about those beginnings, as he has been with Fibrebond his entire professional career and calls the company a “family environment” full of “great, loving people.” To connect employees and offer them support, the company began exploring starting a chaplaincy program. “I was a part of the building engagement team, and we saw that creating a chaplaincy program could be a great way to live out our Christian values. We began researching what a program would entail and how to implement. We also met with many employees for their feedback. Then we presented our research to the executive team. The program has been well received and embraced by many,” Adams said. The program is very unique in that most companies don’t offer this level of support. “Many companies have employee assistance programs that offer support with an 800 number. Whereas we have individuals, that are ordained ministers, on-site that are here to help employees when they face life’s challenges. Knowing that they have this opportunity is something really special.” Listen to the full podcast as Durwin shares more stories about the chaplaincy program and what it’s brought to the employees and the community.

Cass Midgley and Bob Pondillo interview Joel de los Santos. Joel currently lives in Canada but was raised in the Dominican Republic. His Christian journey started as Catholic, then Unity Church, following his parents lead, then he took his own path to evangelical charismatic non-denominational. He and his wife have two sons, his eldest is on the Autism spectrum. The audio is not the best for the first 21 minutes, but gets better and Joel's English is fast and a little mixed with Spanish, but these audio challenges can't keep his big heart and sharp mind from coming through. Listener email:  Hi Mr. Midgley,I have been listening to your podcast for about seven or eight months now and have become a huge fan. While I'm not like many of your guests who've de-converted, I struggled for many years trying to "become" a christian, and suffered a lot of anger and confusion about why it just wouldn't "click" for me and make sense like it does for so many others. I wasn't raised particularly religious, but we did attend church pretty regularly until I was a teenager. When I was a young adult I went back to church trying to become "Christian". I didn't throw myself into it, honestly believing I would naturally have some kind of epiphany and suddenly feel all the certainty that many of my Christian friends felt about the bible. My best friend is a Christian who's heavily involved in her church. She had always been the image of what I expected I would be like once my "epiphany" came. I envied her complete trust in god - despite the discordance I felt about the bible and god's influence in the world. Well, it all started unraveling when trying to start a family revealed that I had some medical issues that would prevent conception. So we prayed... a lot. In the end, god didn't answer our prayer, science did. We had a successful IVF cycle and achieved pregnancy. And although we stood up in church and thanked god for our miracle, I became bitter, angry, and confused afterward. I carried around this bitterness toward god for not giving me a pregnancy naturally. I paid thousands of dollars and underwent uncomfortable medical procedures in order to have my babies. I felt like god had cheated me. Finally though, I had my epiphany. I let go of trying to make sense of a senseless god. The transformation has been revitalizing! Finding your show has added to the peace I feel with my newfound non-belief. One of my biggest conflicts about giving up the search for god was, "What am I if I'm not a believer?" The word atheist sounded scary and like something I didn't want to be labeled as. This is something that your show has really helped me with. Hearing the stories of your guests has shown me that atheist is not a dirty word, goodness and kindness are not dependent on belief in god, and I'm not alone in my non-belief. Thank you so much for the work you do. Your podcast is bringing some good to the world. Sincerely, Jennifer  We taped this conversation on December 17th, 2017. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about.
