I have joined a new lady gang! The Cancer Cartel! The Cancer Cartel was founded in 2018 by sisters Katy Tinney and Shelly Tinney-Miller, alongside their close friend Kerry Solmonsen. While comparing their individual stories of fighting cancer, these three warriors noticed one commonality: cancer is expensive. Together they have devised a plan to help. During her time leading sales teams for Nordstrom, she caught the community service bug. Kerry’s health journey would require more reading than you want to do today, but her battles with spinal meningitis, near fatal pneumonia, skin, thyroid, cervical, and breast cancer- did nothing but solidify her belief that she is here for a purpose. She also knew the extreme financial pressure that she had felt in her life and knew that she could help others who were walking in those shoes. Cancer Cartel is her passion and cleaning up the cost of cancer is her mission! Katy Tinney is a lifelong entrepreneur. With humble beginnings at her coffee stand, she grew that business from one location to two, however, The coffee business didn’t fill her heart. She sold the coffee stands and opened a salon, with great success! In 2014 Katy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-hodgkins Lymphoma. That is where her story takes a turn. For the next 5 months, she endured intense chemotherapy. She was doing great! The cancer had shrunk, and she was in the home stretch. She had cause to celebrate! But, at her routine checkup in October at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the news wasn’t good. The chemo had failed, and the cancer was growing again. Her only option for life, was near death. Stem cell transplant. It is the last resort. But she was up for the challenge because she had an army of family and friends supporting and encouraging her. Without these remarkable people, she would have lost everything. That is why she is partners in the founding of the Cancer Cartel. She knows the financial burden cancer creates, and knew she wanted to make a difference. Shelly Tinney-Miller was a driven career-woman. Her whole life revolved around her big plans- climbing the corporate ladder and she worked long hours and made many sacrifices to get where she wanted to be, but it was unfulfilling. She had success, and accomplished many of her goals, and was not satisfied. Her world was flipped upside down in 2010 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She knew that in order to beat it, she had to slow life down and that there was something much more important than sitting at a desk all day working for someone else. After her recovery was complete the draw to serve others got stronger and stronger. In 2016, Shelly walked away from 25 years in the corporate world to stay home with her daughter, who was 3 at the time. She knew it was the best decision she had ever made. People thought she was crazy leaving a six-figure job in finance at Boeing, but she knew that home is where she was called to be at that moment. Turns out timing is everything, once her daughter started Kindergarten, Katy and Kerry called her to invite her to begin the creation of Cancer Cartel and the rest is history. Turns out cancer can be a blessing in disguise.

It was performed and shared by The Dan River Ramblers under a Creative Commons license.Here's the recipe that David brought to share: "The following recipe for moong dal is one taken from Julie Sahni's Classic Indian Vegetarian and Grain Cooking. This is one of the first recipes I learned after graduating from college. I was living with my partner at the time, just outside of Detroit, MI. We had to learn how to cook for ourselves, and I figured that the way to do it was to cook Indian food. I'm not sure why, but I thought that cooking meat was too easy. I was looking for something about how to layer flavor, trying to eat a bit more healthy and mindfully, and thought that Indian food was the way to go. So, I found this cookbook and, in the last 20 or so years, I have cooked most things in it. What I like about it is that it's simple and easy - it can be made while doing other work, it can be made while hungover to cure it, and it can be made attentively. It works on a cold night, a warm evening, and anything in between. By itself the dal is a little bland, but the spiced oil (tadka) is what really makes it sing:1 cup moong dal1/4 tsp turmeric3 1/2 cups water1 tsp. salt3-4 Tbsp. ghee or light vegetable oil2 tsp. cumin1 Tbsp. ginger2-4 green chilies1 Tbsp. lemon juice4 Tbsp. cilantro1. Wash & rinse dal and put into a pot with the turmeric, water and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and partially cover, cooking for about 35-40 minutes. The dal should be soft. Whisk until it turns into a thick puree. Keep on low heat while2. Heat ghee/oil in a separate pan over medium high heat. Add cumin and stir until they turn brown (~15 seconds), then add ginger, chilies until the oil is laced with the scent of the ginger, chilies, and cumin. Pour into dal. Add lemon juice and fold in the cilantro. Add a little cayenne pepper or kashmiri pepper if desired."

We were supposed to be recapping Game 3 of the Flyers vs Islanders playoff series today. But, following the murder of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin, and subsequent strikes by athletes in all of the other active pro leagues, the NHL Players decided to follow suit, thus no games were played yesterday nor will any be played today. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats goes over President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in this discussion held July 19th. These are his first public comments after standing by the intelligence community’s findings on Russian interference in the 2016 election. Trump has questioned the intelligence assessment. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has defended the Trump administration’s controversial "zero tolerance" immigration policy that has led to families being separated at America’s southwest border. In this discussion, she addresses illegal immigration, saying it reflects a broken system. Her conversation with Peter Alexander, national correspondent for NBC News, also touches on Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign and terrorism. Alexander asks if homegrown, lone-wolf terrorism is the greatest threat today in the US. FBI Director Christopher Wray is firm in his position that Russia was involved in the 2016 presidential campaign. “The intelligence community’s assessment has not changed,” he says, “and my view has not changed, which is that Russia attempted to interfere with the last election.” Wray spoke July 18 at the Aspen Security Forum in Aspen, Colorado. His interviewer, Lester Holt of NBC News, also asked Wray about the indictment of 12 Russian nationals, the Robert Mueller investigation, China, and North Korea. The Aspen Security Forum is a yearly gathering of top-level government officials, industry experts, and journalists. It’s held by the Institute’s Homeland Security Program. A lot has happened since US Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in May a “zero tolerance” policy for illegal crossings at the southwest border. The family separation policy that contributed to dividing nearly 3,000 children from their guardians was halted and now the US government is working to reunite families. In this episode, Mimi Marziano, president of the Texas Civil Rights Project, talks about why she thinks the situation is a “horrendous human rights crisis” that’s far from over. Her organization is representing 381 of the families who have been affected by the separation policy.
