Ambitious and capable women can easily fall into the trap of overperforming and underliving. We get lost in overthinking, overcommitting, overwhelm, and an over-devotion to letting other people call the shots of our lives.  We prioritize other people's needs and priorities and end up living a life someone else has designed and dictated, instead of saying yes to ourselves and the things we want to do, be, and say.  Overperforming can lead to resentment, irritation, exhaustion, feeling unfulfilled and wanting to check out with alcohol at the end of the day.  My guest today is here to share how you can stop overperforming and underliving. She'll help you evaluate what's working in your life, what's not and what's driving your decisions. Tiffany Han is a coach, writer, and podcast host who is on a mission to teach super achievers how to put their striving on a shelf & radically infuse their lives with delight, serendipity, and deep trust in themselves for lives that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside. Do you trust yourself? Confidence is something we all must work to cultivate every day. Confidence is that feeling of self-assurance that tells us “You got this!” or “You can do this!” And yet, it can feel fleeting once you notice that little speck of self-doubt hanging out in the corner whispering and then growing louder, “That’s a silly idea.” Or “I don’t want to sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about. Better not mention anything.” When I polled my Instagram community members on my stories on Friday (thx for participating!) one of the most voted for topics they’d like to hear from me about is “How to Have Confidence at Work.” So this Glow Getters Podcast episode is going to be all about how to cultivate confidence in the workplace (and elsewhere!). I share daily practices and quick ways to pump yourself up AND more long term strategies for building that confidence muscle.

Social media is a powerful tool for amplifying our message, connecting with people, and genuinely impacting their lives. But with that comes the dark side of being an internet content creator.    That’s getting in our heads about whether the content is resonating, and beating ourselves up when a post doesn’t connect with as many people as we expected.    This can really chip away at us and actually start impacting the very messages people need to hear. This burnout is the trap many of us fall into when social media is a huge part of what we do.    Often, the best ideas and content is produced when we’re not attached to the outcome.   How can we make sure we’re using social media as a tool for sharing our message, and not a measure of our humanity? What can we do to keep creating beautiful content without being attached to the outcome?    In this episode, I’m joined by life coach and host of the Raise Your Hand Say Yes podcast, Tiffany Han. She shares how she creates her content and where the true magic of content creation happens for spiritual entrepreneurs.  3 Things We Learned From This Episode   - How to avoid the trap of ambition  Many of the world’s most driven and passionate people often become steamrolled by their own ambition. We tend to bounce back and forth between burnout and overdrive, which will wear us down and wear down our message. The true magic happens when our ambition and our humanity don’t cancel each other out.     - Why it’s hard to delegate our content creation  Most spiritual entrepreneurs create content that’s channeled from a higher Source. We care about being authentic with our messaging, so it’s really hard for us to delegate that piece out to someone else. In order to find someone we can delegate to, they need to be tapped into the same channel, source and frequency that we are. The good news is, those people are out there.  - The seemingly small but super powerful actions that change the world  A big part of the work we do is individually manifesting the world we want to live in and raising that up to the collective manifestation of the world we all want. That starts with the individual.  If each person took the steps to nurture our energy and to feel excited about what each day brings, that will create a ripple effect on a global scale.     Guest Bio    Tiffany Han is a life coach, and host of the Raise Your Hand Say Yes podcast. She teaches smart, driven women how to become the most remarkable versions of themselves and learn to raise their hands and say yes to all the things they want to do, be, and say without compromising their standards - or their sanity. Okay, I'm curious… what's your process when you're making a big life decision? For me, it's all about gaining clarity as quickly as possible. So, I clear my entire desk off, grab a giant piece of white paper, flip on the kettle and get to work mapping it all out visually. Maybe you're a spreadsheets gal? Or you like to jot down the pros and cons? Or your go-to is to speak to a trusted friend or coach for advice? My guest, Tiffany Han simplifies when to say ‘YES' in life… and when to say ‘Heck no' As Tiffany says, “it's time to stop saying yes to everyone else's ISH and start saying yes to yourself. Life is too short for you to wait any longer.” Here are a few simple, practical tips to help you make better decisions in your work and life. In this episode, you will learn: about the revelations Tiffany had during her recent break from social media, and how that helped refine her decision making skills and focus Tiffany's process for making decisions in work and life, plus the framework she follows to get to YES or NO, faster what part ‘truth-telling and discernment' each play in decision making why it's important to focus internally as much as externally, when facing change in life how to begin to take ‘bold, inspired action towards your dreams' I love, love, LOVE Tiffany's core message of helping us to say YES to those things you want to do, be, and say. To say yes to the vision you have for your life. To say yes to yourself. No more hitting pause on your life for the sake of what everyone else wants and needs. This is powerful stuff here, so you might want to just download this one and listen to it again to catch all the tips she shares. This might be exactly what you needed to hear today, my friend… and it could change EVERYTHING. #DoTheThing! As the host of the Raise Your Hand Say Yes podcast (now in its fifth year with over 1.2 million downloads!), Tiffany is most interested in telling the truth about a life of chasing your dreams—tangles and all. She's been featured by Inc.com, salon.com, and Flow Magazine and has delivered keynotes both domestically and abroad. With a penchant for keeping it real, her work focuses on how women can stop over-performing for the sake of the life that somebody else dictates for them and instead start saying yes to themselves. Throughout her life, Tiffany has said yes to smart things, big things, and seemingly-impossible things (hello sobriety, starting a business, and having twins!), and along the way, she's learned that the road to a fulfilled life that feels like freedom is paved with bold moves made from deep within our discomfort zones, a vast understanding of ourselves, and a communion with our core values. Tiffany lives in Northern Colorado with her husband and twin daughters and starts as many dance parties as possible in her spare time (ha!).

Ep130: What You Can Learn from Ants About Actively Practicing Joy Everyday with host Paula Jenkins

Jump Start Your Joy

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 3, 2018 36:06

This week on the show, I’m excited to share a solocast all about why joy matters. I recently had a series of aha moments around the interviews with Fred Leblanc and Julia Samuels, along with the work I’ve been doing in Tiffany Han’s Inner Circle - that led me to a realization that joy isn’t just a choice, but it’s a necessity and it’s something we need to make room for everyday, in some way. This big aha moment has roots in four places: Living a joyful life, and being dedicated to joy means going beyond choosing joy. This first part comes from the Henri Nouwen quote, “Joy is a choice and we must keep choosing it.” It means actively practicing joy and spending time with joy. Joy is energy, and we can choose to engage with this energy. (Fred Leblanc from Episode 125) We can carve out time for joy, making it something we add to our days, purposefully. Life will continue to throw difficult things at us. (Julia Samuel, Episode 127) This ties in with the Law of Attraction, and setting aside time to “play” with joy, you are “Practicing the Vibration of Joy.” In this episode, I talk about: How we decide to focus our energy, and how emotions are tied with energy The impact that my discussion with Fred LeBlanc had on me, around making choices of how we spend our energy How in grief work, those who are grieving are encouraged to spend pockets of time feeling something besides grief (along with other practices) That we need to make room for, and carve out time to interact with joy every day, before we get to the place of feeling detached or distracted That we can develop a practice of joy, and build it into our days How scout ants set out to find things, daily, and the purpose is exploration (just as you should set out to discover joy). They don’t always find food, but they keep going. Once you’ve discovered joy, accessing it and growing on it may feel more in flow. Being careful not to judge yourself about how you practice joy, what it looks like, or if finding joy is a worthy practice. Put negative self talk aside, and keep going. As the founder of 100 Rejection Letters program, Tiffany helps creative entrepreneurs move beyond their comfort zones to build businesses (and lives) that are based on bold, inspired action. Having been called a Professional Yoda and Mary Poppins for Creative Businesses by her clients, Tiffany regularly speaks and teaches about the power of branding, how to build a business that you love (and that loves you back!), and the magic of saying no so that you can find your bigger yes. Tiffany Han, host of Raise Your Hand Say Yes, and my former coach, shares her powerful money story with us today.  We talk in depth about how to focus on changing your behavior, how to move forward and what our real limited resources are.   She is one amazing human! Today we discuss: Her money story.  How she ignored it until she had communion with money. To welcome money & abundance in her life, she set 2015 as the year to fall in love with money. She had a once a month "Money Love Day." Tiffany made it a positive experience going through the books. How to make the budget match your real life. What is on paper needs to find the system that works for you. Finding someone else's system is a great place to start.  Build on that and make it work for you. Tiffany's parable of the planners. The power of baby steps to make progress.  The needs to wants things. The awareness of the lack of habit makes you uncomfortable.  The shame, emotion & guilt can hold you back.   Self-talk influences every facet of life. Creativity brings blessings, but you don't have to believe that voice in your head.  You choose what you listen to and how to move forward. Say to yourself, "I wonder what would happen if..."   Just get curious. How do you know when you are ready to work with a coach:  Recognize what you need will help you find the right person. Be willing to ask for help & be vulnerable. It's okay to be uncomfortable, it means you're making progress. Decide how you want to spend your money and get really deliberate. Money, Time & Energy: these are the available resources. Start today.  Do something NOW.  Anything you can do now will make your life better down the road. "A year ago you'll wish you started today." It's not scary.  It's just numbers. You get to decide who has the power.  It's uncomfortable?  So what.  Move on. Whatever it is, do that.  Those things that make you feel empowered will transcend into other areas of your life. You know about the Think Enriched Crew, but are you in yet?   Here’s a couple of patterns I see play out again and again at this time of year. Pattern #1: To completely ignore all past business missteps and hard knocks, in favour of focusing on the bright shiny future and possibility. Pattern #2: To completely dwell in the past, get locked in a story/personal narrative, and never go beyond it. Naturally, neither are constructive. Pattern #1 misses the critical opportunity and gift of past experience to shape the future direction and decisions we will need to make in business. Pattern #2 keeps us stuck, miserable and never moving forward. It does a number on our self-confidence and worth, and becomes a never-ending destructive cycle of doubt, shame, fear and guilt. I want you to embrace a third pattern. One that holds the perspective that nothing you’ve done is ever wasted, and contains valuable inside to drive your business forward, while not keeping you locked in past mistakes or regrets. The idea of making New Year’s Resolutions has come under fire the past few years because they simply set us up for failure. Why is that, do you think? We talked last week about implementing an intention for the year and how it differs from goals or resolutions. Along with setting an intention, reflection is a necessary tool to replicate more of what works and to learn lessons from what didn’t. As you review the past year, regardless of when you’re starting, do so with a perspective of curiosity rather than judgment. The past is the past, and the future still awaits your design. Learn from the triumphs and the challenges behind you, and use them to create a more powerful path ahead. If you were to sum up your last year in one word, how would you describe it? What worked well for you? How did you create that success? What advice would you give yourself for this coming year? On the podcast today, I will discuss why nothing is ever wasted, it’s all useful. When you’re in reflect mode, everything is on the table and even the crumbs you want to brush off can be used in some way. While I have no desire to let you dwell in the past, I do want you to use it to shape your future, otherwise you’ll find yourself in what Albert Einstein called the definition of insanity — doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It’s a new year, a clean canvass. How will you weave what you’ve learned from last year into an intentional, purpose-filled twelve months? Enjoy today’s episode!   Recommended Resources The key ingredient to have a stand-out year – episode #018 (about setting intention) Taking fear out of the equation with Tiffany Han – episode #016 My PRO Plan - interest list    Thanks for listening! I've been reflecting a lot over the past couple weeks as I close the books down for 2015, I've had a great year, and am ready to welcome in another one. Many thanks to all of you for listening, subscribing and sharing this podcast! biggest 2015 mistakes no boundaries established - not honoring days off or time off, etc. limit your launches - map them out way in advance not hiring soon enough not doing my due diligence with hiring - website, VA not doing enough research prior to launching an event - presell I'm sharing some free exercises to help you understand some of your biggest lessons {failures} - this is the reflection guide I use to create more success in my life. Go to adriennedorison.com/bigmistakes to download this free reflection guide. Started a business on the side of my day job, organically evolved from a personal development & leadership blog I started in late 2014. Offered my services for FREE to get some humans some real results and build my own confidence that I could start charging for this! Worked during mornings lunch breaks, evenings, and weekends to grow my side business alongside my corporate job. Took lots of action - without overthinking things first. Read The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod and completely switched my schedule around to make more time to grow my business in the evenings after my corporate day job. Read 6 Months to 6 Figures by Peter Voogd and learned to really master my skills before moving on - then later he became more of a personal mentor. Focused on Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University program and paid off all my debt in just 6 months - over $45,000. Invested in an empowerment coach and transformed ME before I transformed a business w/ Lisa Carpenter Dove deep into podcasts and learned from the best while I was on the road during my day job commute; Internet Business Mastery with friend, Jason Van Orden, Tiffany Han's Raise Your Hand Say Yes, Chalene Johnson's Build Your Tribe, Amy Porterfield's Online Marketing Made Easy, Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income… Built my own website on SquareSpace and it was pretty darn good for a DIY.  Had my website re-designed by someone and paid tons of money for it — but basically I had an artist build a bridge and it was a website nightmare that had to be redone. Had it redesigned again – by someone far more qualified to build a website that does what a website is supposed to do…and it's pretty too. Created a FB group – grew it organically and it has continued to grow to a group full of supportive, high-achieving humans looking to become more masterful. Had my first professional photoshoot done and even brought my dog, Church E. Bear  Launched a course before I was ready and had 5 people join.  Launched another course before I was ready and had 15 people join.  Raised my prices 3 different times because I had a waitlist. Revamped my packages 3 different times because it takes awhile to figure out what's going to get your clients the best results. Worked with incredible clients – saw them getting incredible results, getting published, quitting their jobs, getting their own clients, creating their first products, doubling their income, increasing their prices, starting waitlists, growing their audience, etc. Quit my corporate job. Took two courses that rocked my world - BTBY with Kimra Luna, and Sales School with Kendrick Shope. Reached out to mentors and influencers to learn from the best. Started my own podcast - The School of Self-Mastery. Hit the New & Noteworthy in iTunes and stayed there for over 11 weeks.  Reached the 10% of all podcasts with tons of downloads thanks to you! Connected with and interviewed tons of successful, influential and interesting humans because of the podcast -  condensed 3 years of podcasting into 6 months! Shared my debt freedom story publicly even was I knew it would annoy people. Traveled to Atlanta to meet and be interviewed my personal finance guru, Clark Howard - and had my first national TV debut because of this bold action. Hired Shana Lynn Yao from yourmarketingmastermind.com to up my business game. Hired my next mentor, Farnoosh Torabi, who has been an invaluable investment for me and my business. Started outsourcing some smaller tasks to free up some time. Got even better at outsourcing and hired Erin Kelly as my OBM - best decision ever and she'll eventually be my first full-time team member (fun fact, Erin was a client, and now I'm her client). Made a few business besties just by building real relationships. Planned and launched a live event with a business bestie - and it was the biggest failure turned lesson ever…stay tuned for 2016 plans  Put systems in place and invested in the tools I needed - 17hats, Acuityscheduling, Leadpages, Libsyn, Basecamp Won a year long coaching program for 2016 with sales expert, Kendrick Shope, and plan to get banging results to thank her for the generosity. Got active on periscope, and then stopped when it started to feel stressful. Pitched myself (and got published) in Huffington Post, GROW, Brazen Careerist, and Get Rich Slowly. Created tons of content & free resources - some that were great and some that “flopped” Gave away over 100 hours of free coaching and over $35,000 of content and coaching.  Condensed over 3 years of podcasting into just 6 months and learned tons about myself and interviewing in general. Was featured as a guest on TONS of podcasts (SoMoney, Stacking Benjamins, Screw The Nine to Five, Lifestyle Business Podcast, The 5am Miracle, All Up In Your Lady Business, Success Secrets of Entrepreneurs, Creative Soul Lab, etc…) and even one of the #1 podcasts in all of iTunes - Art of Charm Was consistent EVERY SINGLE DAY for all 365 this year. Seriously, I didn't miss a day.  Focused on building relationships and generosity, not on selling. Took a stand, often a controversial one, on the things that I believed in, which attracted the right people to my work. Launched a membership site Simplified Success Society and then added a $1 trial period. Joined a mastermind full of powerhouse women. Launched an in-person retreat for June 2016 and have almost filled the spots! Took vacations with my fiance, paid cash, and was able to take time off or even work from wherever I was if I wanted to. Made over $11,500 in business mistakes - and then talked about them. Tracked my numbers and didn't avoid my finances. Focused on profit not just revenue and "banked" income versus "booked" income. Showed up even when I didn't really feel like it because I knew once I started, I'd get motivated {I was always right}. Wasn't afraid to take big risks, but always made sure they were calculated ones. Spent tons of time understanding what my audience wanted {and still do} and then gave it to them over and over again.  Invested a lot of time, energy, action and money into my business and reaped the rewards. Is there a way out of the rabbit hole? The old Chinese Proverb that says, “He who chases two rabbits catches neither,” rings true still today. We are tugged at and bombarded by everything new – new ideas, new products, new courses, new connections – and they can immobilize our ability to get anywhere. What rabbits are you chasing? Have you caught any of them? Have you fallen down one of those rabbit holes? On today’s podcast we discuss the idea that being addicted to possibilities traps us into doing nothing. In the land of possibilities, information overload and new, shiny courses, we are bombarded with endless possibilities. How do we end the madness? Escape the trap? “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities. In the expert’s mind, there are few.” ~ Suzuki Roshi 3 Big Possibility Pitstops we uncover and focus on: 1. I’m worried I’ll make the wrong decision. 2. Fear — as long as I don’t pick a path, I’m not open to criticism, failure or even success. 3. Lack of focus and clarity, leads to major distraction and rabbit hole finding. Experiencing next-level living requires we acknowledge, reflect, make necessary changes and take focused steps to become experts in the land of possibility. I provide actionable steps we can all take to ensure we don’t stay trapped. Welcome back to Season #2 of the Beyond PRO Podcast! Not only is this the first episode back, but it’s also our inaugural interview. Today, I’m talking to the formidable Tiffany Han. I am a big, big fan of Tiffany. When I see a woman who clearly has decided to choose courage over fear, and action over hiding, I know I’m in the presence of someone great. Tiffany and I are in a small online coaches group together, and over the past year, I’ve watched her go from birthing twins to launching a year long program to getting her self out there with speaking gigs, interviews and more. This woman is a force. I’ve watched her raise her hand and say yes to getting 100 Rejection Letters and growing her business like gangbusters in the process (all while raising newborn twins btw!). Tiffany is an inspiring example of what happens when you take bold action in your business, embrace creative risk and go after the things you want – even if they’re outside the boundaries of your comfort zone. In our interview we talk about:  What would business be like if we took fear out of the equation? How do we reconcile being a leader with embracing rejection? Whether we can ever rid ourselves of fear How Tiffany deals with setbacks, rejection and when she slips into fear Tiffany also talks about her program, 100 Rejection Letters, which is currently open for enrolment (I’m a proud affiliate). This year-long program is designed to help you cultivate the courage and ‘scrappy resilience’ (love this term from Tiffany!!) to choose action over fear. 100 Rejection Letters is open until October 26, 2015 and early bird prices are in effect until October 19. If fear has kept you from pursuing those big dreams and you’re finally ready to raise your hand and say yes, I HIGHLY encourage you to check out Tiffany’s program. Welcome to another episode of the Your Kick-Ass Life podcast! I’m so excited for you to meet our guest for today’s show, Tiffany Han. Tiffany is a business coach who helps creative women, like bloggers, graphic designers and cubicle jailbirds, take bold and inspired action. She helps her clients say YES to big things they’ve always wanted to start and to say YES to themselves! YES YES YES! Phew…got a little excited there. On today’s episode we talk about her 100 rejection letters program, the kind of rejection you should expect when you sign up for the program, and how to set guidelines when you’re choosing an accountability partner in your life.

And, welcome to the podcast episode where I quote myself. This week, I did something a little bit different and did a solo show. What started out as a short guide to finding your own way to Raise your hand and say yes quickly became my stance on life (enter: the Crazyfaith) and my musings on the movement I'm trying to create with my work and this show.  I'm feeling a wee bit vulnerable posting and sharing this now, but, in the spirit of leaning in to my own discomfort, here goes.  I'd love to hear what you think! I would like to do more of these solo shows (don't worry! I'm not going to give up the interviews!), so if what I had to say resonated, please let me know!  PS. As I mentioned towards the end of the episode, the Raise your Hand Say Yes book club is coming! We're starting with The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. Get your copy now and give it a read – the episode where we discuss it will air on March 4 and we'll also be doing a twitter chat following the episode. PPS. The other thing that I mentioned was the Q&A episode that I'm going to be hosting with my favorite friend Michelle Ward on March 11. If you have any questions for us about life or business or passion or entrepreneurship or early motherhood or our shiny hair, send them over!  **100 Rejection Letters** - Registration open through 10/31/16   Show Notes: Sliding Doors - the movie (watch it! so good!)
