Today Cierra dives into the art of loneliness and the necessity of Weak Ties. As a concept from the book of The Defining Decade; Twenty-Somethings may not have as much time to waste, especially with their Urban Tribe. In other words, authenticity requires personal belonging and our world is designed for Group Thinking.
We are back, and after the last episode where we spent our time in New Jersey, we are popping over the Atlantic to Manchester circa 1980. For this episode of MSG10 we have author, podcast host, and once drummer with The Fall, PAUL HANLEY. We discuss Urban Tribes, The Fall going to gigs together, Nico looking for a (tape?), Manchester taking itself very seriously, being an occasional Goth, and much more.

URBAN / TRIBE presents Hunt + Gather hosted by Artistic Director Mathew James. Hunt + Gather is an inquiry based audio experience that forages for diverse perspectives to examine pressing questions of our time as a way to foster community and connectivity. This project is birthed out of a need for a space in a time where we have physical constraints that have halted many of our communal practices that serve us as a modality for personal and professional growth. In other words, this is an adventure to foster connectivity and explore new avenues of creativity. Through thoughtful conversations we will share in an experience that can draw us together by listening carefully with compassion, open mindedness and a willingness for understanding. In a time when our world is so polarized, I believe that sharing our experiences and embracing others with radical differences is the way in which we can evolve and reach our fullest potential, together. Be brave. Commit to something. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/huntandgather/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/huntandgather/support
On this episode of Healing is Mutual, I connect with Mathew James — a dancer, maker, and founder of Urban Tribe: platform for movement based practices. He also just so happens to work as an administrator focused on advancement and business development at the Guggenheim museum in New York. We start our talk reminiscing about how we met studying dance at Sacramento State University, giving an homage to our faculty and the invaluable education we received from them. We talked about how impactful it was for us each to study with professionals who embodied years of experience, and how dance has informed our own professional careers in profound ways. All of this supports our thoughts on the times, and the revolution that's occurring. Naturally, as two Gemini dancers, we oscillate between emphasizing the importance of dialogue and finding new language to articulate the revolution, as well as deepening embodiment through experience and honoring the unnamable. Mathew expressed a deep gratitude for his experience as a graduate student, dancing side by side with legends in the dance world, and this stirs a million thoughts in my head about the value of lived experience and embodiment... this is Part I
It’s book club, baby! We discuss Defining Decade, the book about why your twenties “matter” and how to “make the most of them”. Author and therapist and Meg Jay, PhD, urges urgency, dismantles reckless relationships, and tells us to network like Benjamin Franklin. We weigh the merits of her suggestions with indignation. Mostly, Meg Jay tells us we’re doing it wrong.Topics included: How to get out of a metaphoric ocean (cont.), identity cultivation, judgemental therapists, are your twenties long or short?Have you felt changed by something you read, watched, or gulped down recently? Had a psychedelic or existential epiphany or a come to jesus moment? Did you wake up this morning feeling different? Better? Way worse? F*cked up recently and want to get it off your chest? Us too. Write us an email about it at doingitwrong.diw@gmail.com

I forgot to be your lover'.
Dr. Randy Freeman stops by Faith Church to update us on what he's doing with Urban Tribes in South Africa.

Palestinian Christian Daoud Nassar just completed a very successful speaking tour in Arizona. Daoud's compelling testimony explains his family's non-violent actions to save their 100 year old farm that is surrounded by five, illegal, Israeli settlements in the West Bank of Palestine and subject to the injustices of a brutal military occupation. Daoud's project is called Tent of Nations, and is truly unique in peacemaking efforts as it follows what Jesus taught, "Blessed are the peacemakers for the shall be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:7). Please take time to watch this inspiring, 8 minute video by Urban Tribes that gives an excellent overview of what Tent of Nations is all about and explains their principles and objectives that include: 1. We refuse to be victims. 2. We refuse to hate 3. We live with our faith. 4. We believe in justice. The Tent of Nation's motto is "We Refuse To Be Enemies." (Photo: In one of his presentations in Arizona, Daoud Nassar points to the Tent of Nations on a map that shows how it is surrounded by Israeli settlements [in blue]. The Israeli separation wall goes deep into Palestinian territory and will eventually cut off the Tent of Nations and other Palestinian land from the nearby Palestinian city of Bethlehem.) Daoud's tour in Arizona was sponsored by Friends of Tent of Nations, North America: http://fotonna.org/
We would like to think we have served up plenty of special treats in our podcast series so far, but this latest one is certainly one that many people will get very excited about. It is not often that Detroit key-figures step out and offer us a window into their current musical world, but that is what we have here from Sherard Ingram aka DJ Stingray. Famed for many reasons—not least for always DJing in a black balaclava—he is founder of the Urban Tribe super group with KDJ, C2 and Shake, was DJ for the legendary electro outfit Drexcyia and is also a fierce DJ and producer in his own right. He came up playing tough techno and electro in hardcore motorcycle clubs in the D, but is now a regular in the world’s finest underground spaces, where he pushes a dark, intense sound that is socially and politically charged. Shades of Miami bass and ghetto tech also characterise his work on labels like Shipwreck, Bleep43, [NakedLunch] and Unknown to the Unknown, and in 2016 he is as busy and prolific as he has ever been. This summer he plays a rather exclusive back to back set with Helena Hauff at our festival in Amsterdam. The mix he serves up is a great snapshot of what Stingray does - forces you to dance to his high tempo, high impact sounds. He mixes them quickly and slickly and there is a real sense of urban paranoia and future menace in every tune he reaches for. Sit back, then, and bask in the glory of a real master.
