Today in collaboration with Wella Professionals, I'm honoured to welcome to the podcast Charlie Taylor, three-time Scottish Hairdresser of the Year and British Hairdressing Hall of Fame icon. From her formative years with Trevor Sorbie to co-running renowned salons in Perth and Dundee with her husband Alastair, Charlie has consistently set the bar for hairdressing excellence, making her mark both nationally and internationally. Today, Charlie introduces us to Careologist by Wella Professionals, a program dear to Charlie's heart, aimed at elevating hairdressers' grasp on hair and scalp care. This ties beautifully into our focus on Menopause, Hair, and Scalp Health, as part of recognising World Menopause Awareness Month. Charlie passionately shares her insights on addressing menopausal hair issues and the significance of understanding hair health during menopause. Charlie also shares how System Professional's range of products helps assist stylists and clients alike during this transformative phase. Before we get to all of this, I was keen to open up our conversation by learning about Charlie's voyage through the dynamics of hairdressing. She does this beautifully by emphasising with me the importance of solid foundational training and the early influences that shaped her. Charlie's competitive spirit and ambition, combined with her strategies for marrying creativity with business acumen in the salons she has built, shines through. But most of all, this episode today is about to broaden your horizon on client hair and scalp care—especially how menopause affects the hair with Charlie sharing a very clear message: "We should care deeply about the hair and scalp health of those we serve.". So get ready for a conversation with Charlie Taylor, who will share her key tips and wonderful advice.

Hair care has been a passion for Annie Young-Scrivner, CEO of Wella Company, since she was 13 years old when she started a side business cutting and perming hair. So when the executive was recruited from Godiva where she served as CEO for three years to join the 140-year-old hair-care and nail company, she jumped at the opportunity. Private equity firm KKR named Young-Scrivner as the CEO of Wella Company in Oct. 2020 following the announcement of its acquisition of 60% of the company from Coty. Wella distributes hair-care brands such as Wella Professionals, Clairol, Nioxin, GHD and nail polish brand OPI. In Dec. 2021, the company celebrated its first anniversary as an independent company. KKR and Wella Company have noted the ambitions to IPO in approximately four years. “We have a tremendous opportunity to be an incredible company. The first thing we're focused on is making sure we have the right [products] to meet the needs of the consumer,” said Young-Scrivner on the Glossy Beauty podcast. “The second thing is making sure we're growing in the right way. There's going to be lots of [exit] options for us.” When it comes to building a product and brand portfolio that stands the test of time, Wella is focusing on storytelling across all of its brands. This includes Wella Professional. Its Shinefinity long-lasting color glaze speaks to the health of hair, with the tagline “Shine you can feel." Wella has over 1,000 patented products and technologies it can use to position itself as a superior beauty company offering innovative products, Young-Scrivner said. OPI has also looked to unique opportunities to capture new customers and communities by partnering with Xbox in January. So far these efforts are paying off, as Wella's professional sales channel has experienced a double-digit sales growth compared to the fiscal year 2019, and both its e-commerce and retail channels are growing substantially, said Young-Scrivner.
Gordon is joined by Wella Professionals' iconic Global Creative Artist @sonyadove and influencer/Ambassador @brianacisneros to talk about everything from their individual career origin stories and learnings along the way to their shared passion for hair color, social media, education and, of course, Wella. Note: Recorded pre-pandemic.

In this episode, we explore how you can make the most of every client who sits in your chair. Did you know that only 41% of clients say they feel like they get a consultation from their hairdresser? I personally find this staggering! Surely giving a consultation to each of our clients should be a giver when it comes to the professional service we each provide. And it's worth noting that by giving great consultations they will spend up to 35% more on products and services! So today, in collaboration with Wella Professionals, that's what we will be discussing! I'm to be joined by award-winning hairdresser and Wella Professionals UK&I Top Artist, Christel Barron Hough of Stil London. Christel will be sharing with us how she gives her clients an amazing experience in the salon and how this has helped her grow a her brand. She talks through how to assess someone's suitability and identity and then link this their perfect color formula & technique. Be sure to stick around for this conversation. We will be exploring with Christel how using the 3 step Consultation can help grow your business, increase the frequency of your client's salon visits and improve the loyalty of your customers. All leading to increasing your salon revenue. It's pure gold! A podcast produced by Hairy Media Productions. As we fast approach our 200th episode it's made me stop and reflect on how I've I got to where I am are today with How To Cut It. Today I'll be sharing this with you. From recording our very first episode back in March 2017 followed by my interview with Tom Connell, I seriously could have never anticipated the journey I was about to embark on back then.
