Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: Stone Mountain Park To Host Annual Sunrise Service Easter Sunday The Easter Sunrise Service tradition at Stone Mountain Park, started in 1944, continues on Sunday, April 20. Worshippers can hear messages from Bryant Wright, Crawford Loritts, and Parker Wyatt, with services beginning at 7 a.m. The park opens at 3 a.m., and the Summit Skyride starts at 4 a.m. The event includes sign language interpreters and family-friendly activities like Dino Fest afterward. Vehicle entry costs $20 for a day or $40 annually, while church vans and buses enter free. Walking the trail is free, and Skyride fees are $20 round-trip. STORY 2: Snellville preparing to break ground on Briscoe Park community center After two decades of planning, Snellville will break ground on a 34,000-square-foot community center at T.W. Briscoe Park on May 1, with construction starting May 5. Opening in summer 2026, the $11.3 million facility will feature basketball courts, an indoor walking track, multi-purpose rooms, an aerobics room, and an outdoor pavilion. Funded by special sales tax dollars, the project will enhance recreation and programming for the community. Construction impacts include the closure of outdoor basketball courts, re-routing of the fitness trail, and road closures within the park. New outdoor courts are planned for future development. STORY 3: Authorities seize an amount of fentanyl that could kill every Georgian twice Federal officials announced a major drug bust in Atlanta, seizing over 100 pounds of fentanyl—enough to kill 23 million people—and arresting 22 individuals linked to two Mexican cartels. However, cartel leaders Johnny and Jose Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga remain at large, with an $8 million reward for their capture. The operation uncovered a Gwinnett County money-wiring scheme, "smurfing," to send drug proceeds to Mexico. The DEA called it Atlanta's largest fentanyl seizure, valued at $1.5 million. Greene emphasized it was a "peaceful" event despite disruptions, including protesters shouting insults. The event, open only to registered constituents, featured pre-submitted questions. Greene defended Trump-era policies, denied Medicare cuts, and celebrated immigration crackdowns. STORY 5: Gwinnett moving closer to commuter bus service handover Gwinnett County is moving closer to transferring its Ride Gwinnett commuter bus routes to The ATL’s XPress service, consolidating routes between Gwinnett and Atlanta job centers. The transition, set for June 16, aims to save costs for riders and the county. Local bus, paratransit, and microtransit services will remain under county control. The move follows a 2023 study identifying inefficiencies in metro Atlanta commuter services. Public feedback led to adjustments in route times, and the county will finalize the agreement with The ATL in May. The change reflects efforts to streamline transit along the I-85 corridor. The suspects allegedly cut the lock to a cigarette cage at a RaceTrac near Coolray Field on Dec. 8 and stole multiple cartons. Similar thefts occurred in Snellville, Athens, and Ellenwood. The suspects fled in a black Dodge Durango. Police urge anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers, where tips can remain anonymous.STORY 2: Georgia Falls to Notre Dame in College Football PlayoffGeorgia's football season ended with a 23-10 loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl. The game, delayed due to a terrorist attack, saw Georgia take an early lead but falter after Notre Dame's strong plays at the end of the first half and start of the second. Georgia's Gunner Stockton, in his first start, threw for 234 yards but was sacked four times. Notre Dame's Jayden Harrison returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, solidifying their lead. Despite a late touchdown, Georgia couldn't rally, ending their season with an 11-3 record.STORY 3: Two XPress Park And Ride Lots In Gwinnett Could Close In June. Here's What We Know.The Atlanta Transit Link Authority (The ATL) plans to implement the "Redefining the Ride – Xpress 2.0" initiative in June, potentially ending XPress bus services for Dacula and Snellville commuters to Atlanta due to decreased ridership post-pandemic. The plan includes closing 10 XPress Park and Ride lots, with Dacula and Snellville commuters redirected to nearby locations. The initiative aims to optimize funding use while maintaining essential services. Public feedback will be solicited from Jan. 13 to Feb. 12. In this episode of the Trucker for Millennials podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking with Jamie Hagen, also known as Hell Bent Hagen, a seasoned trucker and owner-operator who has made significant strides in fuel efficiency and growing his trucking business, Hellbent Xpress. Jamie shared his extensive experience in the trucking industry, starting from when he was just 16 years old, and offered valuable insights into how owner-operators can improve their bottom line through fuel efficiency. Key Takeaways: Fuel Efficiency: Jamie emphasized the importance of fuel efficiency for owner-operators, noting that it directly impacts their take-home pay. He shared that the national average for fuel efficiency is around six and a half miles per gallon, and anything below that could mean a business is struggling. Jamie himself has achieved an impressive average of 9.2 miles per gallon over the year, even reaching up to 12 miles per gallon on certain hauls. Equipment Matters: According to Jamie, 70% of fuel efficiency comes from the equipment used. He advises investing in aerodynamic trucks and trailers and considering additional modifications to reduce mechanical and rolling resistance. Driver Impact: The remaining 30% of fuel efficiency is in the hands of the driver. Jamie suggests that drivers slow down to save fuel, as higher speeds significantly increase fuel consumption. Growing the Business: Jamie shared his journey from operating four trucks to expanding to twelve with the help of his wife, who manages the back office. He highlighted the importance of compliance, having a good accountant, and the benefits of his partnership with Mack Trucks, which allowed him to secure trucks even during shortages. Partnership with Mack Trucks: Jamie's relationship with Mack Trucks has been beneficial for both parties. He has been able to provide real-world feedback on their trucks' performance and fuel efficiency, and in return, he has had access to new trucks when they were scarce in the market. The Race to 11 MPG: Jamie recounted his friendly competition with another trucker, Joel Morrow, to see who could first achieve 11 miles per gallon in their truck. This challenge was turned into a promotional video by Mack Trucks, showcasing their commitment to fuel efficiency. Conclusion: Jamie Hagen's story is one of passion, dedication, and smart business practices. His focus on fuel efficiency not only saves money but also contributes to a more sustainable trucking industry. This '92-'24 retrospective from one of the mightiest names in house features unreleased Gabriels + Usher remix exclusives and a special edit of 'Lazy' exclusive to this mix. No-one does chunky house music better and we're delighted to have these history-makers be part of our long-running series. Strap yourself in for a tonking hour. *How would you describe your sound?* Our sound is for the dancefloor. Pure and simple. Whether that's the back room of a pub in Colnbrook or a huge mega tech rave in Mexico. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*  I guess it's all sorts of music that's influenced us over the years. Going way back to tribal music through Blues, jazz, rnb, reggae, soul, disco, house, techno, classical etc etc. We always go back to early house stuff if we're ever stuck in the studio. Just get back to the raw basics and go again! *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* This '92224' mix is basically a snap shot of some of the stuff that we, with Ashley for a huge chunk of it, have done or been involved with over the years. From our very first production together ('Muzik Xpress') bang up to the minute with our soon-to-be-released Gabriels remix. Getting this mix together has made me appreciate just how much we've done and makes me feel very proud of what 3 lads from west London have achieved musically. Listening back to it there's definitely a thread that runs through this 32 years of music and I think that hopefully, you can hear those answers to the first 2 questions contained within.
