This week, we begin the wind down our summer Swan series by investigating the third act of Truman Capote, including those scandalous chapters of Answered Prayers which targeted and alienated his Swans. In 1966, Truman claimed double success with the publication of In Cold Blood. Ultimately though, these achievements combined with his own hubris do not lead Capote to happiness, as his last decade reveals. Sponsors Upgrade your every day! Ask, Believe, Dream Bigger: The Greater Things Jesus Promised – John 14:12–14 In Episode 149 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane slow down and dive into just three powerful verses—John 14:12–14—where Jesus makes an astonishing promise about faith, prayer, and the “greater works” His followers will do. What did Jesus mean when He said, “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these”? And what do we do with His invitation to “ask me for anything in my name”? Together, Jamie and Jane explore the difference between dreaming with God and simply asking Him to bless our plans. They talk about bold prayers, surrendered dreams, expectations, and what it means to believe that God can accomplish more through our lives than we could ever manufacture on our own. Maybe we've been praying too safely. Maybe we've allowed disappointment to shrink what we're willing to ask God for. John 14 invites us to believe again, ask boldly, dream with God—and remember that ultimately, it is all for the glory of the Father. Reflection Question: Have I allowed fear, disappointment, or past unanswered prayers to make my prayers smaller—and what might God be inviting me to ask Him for again? ____________________________________ Connect with Jamie: Website: www.jamieklusacek.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamieklusacek Connect with Jane: Website: www.janewwilliams.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/janewwilliams

In this episode of our summer of Swans, we spend a little time with Truman's Publishing Swan, Katharine Graham, America's first female CEO of a Fortune 500 company and the honoree of The Black and White Ball. Katharine is a friend to Truman, but plays a far larger role in Dominick Dunne's third act as well. David Begelman, the movie studio head and Hollywood hotshot, participates in a bit of criminal embezzlement providing Dominick Dunne a BIG clue on the way to investigative journalism career. Also included, a now-found missing chapter from Capote's Answered Prayers. These few pages of “Yachts and Things” recall all about that time that Katharine and Truman sailed around the islands, made friends with a dolphin, and did some hashish too. There are times when God withholds something we deeply desire—a relationship, a job, a possession, or an answered prayer—and our confidence in Him feels tested. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef encourages believers to seek the Lord, wait for His will, and remember that our heavenly Father knows what we need even better than we do. But while God withholds for our good, we often withhold from God to our own harm. When we cling tightly to earthly treasures, possessions, gifts, or plans, we create fertile ground for worry and anxiety. Jesus calls us away from storing up treasures on earth and toward storing up treasures in heaven—living with open hands and eternal priorities. Dr. Youssef points to God's solution for anxiety: trust Him fully and use what He has entrusted to you for His glory. Because of Christ, believers are more than conquerors. We live with the assurance of eternal victory—victory over sin, death, fear, worry, and every earthly loss. Don't be anxious about life. Seek first God's Kingdom and His righteousness, and trust Him to meet every need in Christ Jesus. Prayer: God, help me to trust You even when it seems You are withholding something from me. May I not withhold anything from You. Help me to turn away from worry and anxiety today. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:33-34). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. In this episode, Emma Dotter explores how the early church was surprised by God answering their prayers for Peter to be freed from prison, how that applies to our prayer lives today, and how God doesn't rely on our emotional stability to answer prayers. // RELATED JOIN THE JOURNEY EPISODES: S4:268 Acts 12-14 (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s4-268-acts-12-14/id1600151923?i=1000735847137) // WHAT IS JOIN THE JOURNEY? This is message 48 in Gospel Record of John John 15:1-17 True spiritual life and lasting fruitfulness are only possible through a continual, dependent relationship with Christ, who alone is the source of strength, growth, and life. God lovingly shapes and prunes His people through His Word so that they might bear fruit that brings glory to Him and impacts others for eternity. Joy, answered prayer, obedience, and effective service all flow from abiding closely with Him, because apart from Christ, no lasting spiritual work can be accomplished. We've spent three months talking about prayer, and this final episode is where all of it comes to life. A few months ago, Jesse, our social media coordinator at Every Woman a Theologian, reached out to our community and asked them to share how God has been moving in their prayer lives. What came back left me emotional. Story after story of a personal, specific, loving God who hears and answers prayer. Sometimes with a yes, sometimes with a no, and sometimes in ways that are even more beautiful than what was asked for. You'll hear testimonies of answered prayers through miscarriage and grief, infertility and miraculous pregnancies, job searches, family conflict, postpartum anxiety, healing, and so much more. I want to be honest with you—not all of these are happy endings. Some of the most powerful testimonies in this episode come from women holding the tension between grief and gratitude. But all of them point to a God who sees, who cares, and who answers specifically. If your faith has been feeling thin or your prayers feel like they're hitting the ceiling, I hope these stories remind you that our God is not distant. Do you know the secret to answered prayer? Elijah certainly did. He prayed that it would not rain, and it didn't for 3.5 years! Then he prayed it would rain … and it did! Elijah's heart was right, and his life was aligned with God and His word. As a result, he saw answers to his prayers. In this revealing and uplifting message from Pastor Jeff Schreve, you'll learn how to experience answered prayer in your own life.
Answered prayer isn't about getting everything you want—it's about aligning your belief, your heart, and your requests with God's will. When we truly trust Him, come through Jesus, and pray for what He already desires—salvation and transformation—prayer shifts from wishful asking to powerful partnership with God.
The 10 Commandments E5 — In the ancient world, gods (or elohim in Hebrew) were associated with transcendent forces of nature, and humans created statues (mostly of animals) to represent these forces, known as idols. But in Exodus 20:4-6, Yahweh forbids Israel from making idols of himself or any other spiritual being. Why? In this episode, Jon and Tim explore the 2nd Commandment to discover how idols diminish the identity of both God and humans. On today's LEADING THE WAY, Dr. Michael Youssef shares a powerful, life-changing message called, UNLOCKING THE DOOR TO ANSWERED PRAYER! (1 John 5) Support the show: https://au.ltw.org/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As we continue learning from Daniel's prayers, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds us that we are completely reliant on God's love and forgiveness—and that Daniel's approach is a blueprint for praying with spiritual power. First, appeal for mercy. Daniel doesn't present God with reasons he deserves an answer. Instead, he pleads on the basis of God's covenant character: “We do not make requests… because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy” (Daniel 9:16–18). Daniel's driving concern wasn't comfort, success, or ease—it was the glory of God. This devotional calls you to pray the same way: acknowledge you don't deserve God's blessings, yet trust Him because He is merciful and faithful. Second, petition for God to act. Daniel prays with urgency and clarity: “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act!” (Daniel 9:19). His requests aren't selfish—they're aimed at God being honored and His Name being vindicated. Dr. Youssef encourages believers to pray boldly for God to move in ways that most clearly display that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. If you've been hesitant to pray specifically or feel unworthy to ask for God's intervention, this devotional will help you recover the right posture: humility before God, confidence in His mercy, and God-centered petitions that seek His highest glory. Prayer: God, as I humble myself before You, I realize that I don't deserve Your blessings, but I am grateful that You are a merciful God. Apart from You, I am nothing. God, I pray that You would take action, showing Yourself strong, so that You would receive all praise and glory. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name” (Psalm 119:132). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Daniel didn't become courageous in the lions' den overnight. Long before he stood firm before kings, he first bent the knee in secret—day after day, seeking the Lord when no one was watching. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef traces Daniel's life from exile in Babylon to his unwavering refusal to stop praying, reminding us: whenever you see someone standing strong for God, you'll find they first learned to kneel. Dr. Youssef highlights Daniel's remarkable prayer in Daniel 9, offered after nearly seventy years of exile. It's a prayer marked by confession, intercession, and petition—and it flows from a man anchored in God's promises. Daniel trusted the Lord who had already revealed His plan through prophets and who moves history according to His timetable—sending His people home precisely as promised, and later sending the Messiah at the appointed time. This devotional will encourage you to: prioritize prayer over panic, rely on God's promises when the future feels uncertain, and remember that prayer makes us partners in God's unfolding plan. Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the honor of serving Your Kingdom through prayer and obedience. Help me to be faithful. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name” (Daniel 9:19). *This devotional adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. “What should I do next?” is one of the most common questions believers bring to God—and in today's MY Devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef takes you to Genesis 24, where Scripture records the first prayer offered in the same way we pray today. Abraham's trusted servant Eliezer is sent on a mission that will shape the covenant line: find a wife for Isaac. Along the journey, he stops and prays a clear, specific prayer for guidance (Genesis 24:12–14)—and God answers before he finishes praying (Genesis 24:15). Dr. Youssef highlights why this matters for your decision-making: Specific prayers aren't unspiritual—God often honors clear, faith-filled requests. Flexibility matters—God may answer differently than expected, but never outside His wisdom. Prayer doesn't replace action—Eliezer prays and keeps moving, watching, and obeying. The takeaway is simple and challenging: faithful prayer + unconditional obedience = answered prayer. If you're seeking guidance for a major decision, this episode will help you pray with clarity, walk with confidence, and discern God's direction as He leads. Prayer: Lord, thank You that I can bring my specific requests to You and trust that You hear and answer them in Your perfect wisdom and timing. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you” (Psalm 9:10). *This devotional is adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. For years, I asked God for wisdom, responsibility, integrity........ I prayed for years, 10 to be exact. I would go through things, get my ass beat by life, challenged at every turn, building businesses, losing money, and getting ground up in the wood chipper of life. I remember one time I had to stroke a check for $750K due to an investment that went bad. I wanted integrity, and I returned the money lost and took one on top of it. Patience requires you to wait.
