Arcady Shteynberg and Eddie Benett are with the Omada Group.  Omada was formed to take the best, most forward thinking ideas and technology to the public space. A partnership of several  companies, Omada brings UAV, technology, rescue, training, consulting, and other innovations into one centralized business hub. The company's goal is to find the right-fit solution to address a company's biggest challenges. Arcady is owner and partner of OMADA Group, where he leads efforts in developing innovative solutions for first responders, particularly in water-based search and rescue operations. His work includes collaborating with agencies to create standards for UAV operators deploying emergency flotation devices. Under his leadership, OMADA Group has also formed strategic partnerships with distributors in the fire, water safety and drone industry, as well as some strategic partnerships with manufacturers like BRINC Drones, to offer comprehensive drone rescue solutions. Eddie is a 30+ year veteran of manned aviation and a former aircrew for Queensland Police in Australia. He is also a leading expert and innovator in the autonomous vehicle industry, who has also served on NASA Working Groups for Air Mobility as a Public Safety Expert. Furthermore, he is the founder and driving force behind Complete AUV. Eddie specializes in creating cutting-edge solutions for manned aviation programs, search and rescue, and commercial applications.  In 2018, Two teenage boys swimming off the coast of Australia, struggling to make their way back to shore, were saved by a drone that had dropped a self-inflating rescue pod into the water.  This was the first-of-its-kind rescue mission of swimmers by an unmanned aircraft.  Advancing the use of emergency flotation devices in drone rescue missions is one of Omada's core objectives. In this episode of the Drone Radio Show Podcast, Arcady and Eddie talk about Omada Group,  emergency flotation devices and how this technology can help save lives.

Arcady is a veteran, serial fintech entrepreneur! Over twenty-four years ago, he was part of the founding and management of a challenger digital bank that grew to over $37bn in assets. The same group then launched the 1st generation of BaaS solutions, and with that, they grew to over $60bn in assets under custody. Now, he is the founder and CEO of Agora, a third-generation banking platform at the intersection of BaaS and embedded Fintech. Agora has built its own modern composable cloud-core banking solution and is working with sponsor bank(s) for the compliance and bank charter aspects. Arcady demystifies the differences between the US and European Banking Markets and some of the challenges of addressing the US market, which is spread across over 9000 banks. He also provides some great insights on bank partnerships with FinTechs. Inevitably, we also discuss the challenges of legacy technology, not only for banks but also for incumbent core banking providers.

Today I talked to L. R. Lam about Dragonfall (DAW, 2023). Long ago, humans betrayed dragons, stealing their magic and banishing them to a dying world. Centuries later, their descendants worship dragons as gods. But the “gods” remember, and they do not forgive. Thief Arcady scrapes a living on the streets of Vatra. Desperate, Arcady steals a powerful artifact from the bones of the Plaguebringer, the most hated person in Lumet history. Only Arcady knows the artifact's magic holds the key to a new life among the nobles at court and a chance for revenge. The spell connects to Everen, the last male dragon foretold to save his kind, dragging him through the Veil. Disguised as a human, Everen soon learns that to regain his true power and form and fulfill his destiny, he only needs to convince one little thief to trust him enough to bond completely–body, mind, and soul—and then kill them. L. R. Lam discusses influences to their latest novel—from 90s fantasy to the bubonic plague—issues of consent and point of view, and the ways writing near future science fiction has shaped their work in epic fantasy. When Arcady arrives, he has with him his best friend and mentor, Evgeny Bazarov, a medical student--and nihilist.  Bazarov is skeptical about everything with the exception of science. It is a position that played well in cosmopolitan St. Petersburg, but which seems a bit out of place in farm country. Master the 40: The Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald

Some critics have dismissed this story of a man who escapes his worldly woes by fleeing his office to return to his small-town, rundown origins as "pure trash," but we uncover some historical reasons it should be of interest. First, "John Jackson's Arcady" was the last short story Fitzgerald wrote in April 1924 before departing for the Riviera to write The Great Gatsby. As such, it has some intriguing overlap with the novel. Second, although not republished in a collection until 1979, the story enjoyed a curious afterlife as an elocution text for aspiring high-school orators (and Rotarians). But third and most importantly, the story's closing scene in which John Jackson discovers just how much the world appreciates the good deeds he's done may just be---oh heck, we'll go on a limb and say we're ninety percent certain it is---the inspiration for Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life, starring (of course!) Jimmy Stewart. We explore that tantalizing connection, as well  situate the story in the very popular 1920s' genre of the "revolt from the village." We also ask why "Arcady" is the rare sympathetic portrait of an American businessman at a time when nonfiction bestsellers such as Bruce Barton's The Man Nobody Knows (1925) proclaimed Jesus the quintessential entrepreneur. Along the way, after figuring out how to pronounce "Arcady," we quiz each other on famous Jacksons, from Stonewall to Tito to Luscious.

Ode on a Grecian Urn  by John Keats Thou still unravish'd bride of quietness,        Thou foster-child of silence and slow time, Sylvan historian, who canst thus express        A flowery tale more sweetly than our rhyme: What leaf-fring'd legend haunts about thy shape        Of deities or mortals, or of both,                In Tempe or the dales of Arcady?        What men or gods are these? What maidens loth? What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape?                What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy?   Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard        Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on; Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear'd,        Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone: Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave        Thy song, nor ever can those trees be bare;                Bold Lover, never, never canst thou kiss, Though winning near the goal yet, do not grieve;        She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,                For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!   Ah, happy, happy boughs! that cannot shed          Your leaves, nor ever bid the Spring adieu; And, happy melodist, unwearied,          For ever piping songs for ever new; More happy love! more happy, happy love!          For ever warm and still to be enjoy'd,                 For ever panting, and for ever young; All breathing human passion far above,          That leaves a heart high-sorrowful and cloy'd,                 A burning forehead, and a parching tongue.   Who are these coming to the sacrifice?          To what green altar, O mysterious priest, Lead'st thou that heifer lowing at the skies,          And all her silken flanks with garlands drest? What little town by river or sea shore,          Or mountain-built with peaceful citadel,                 Is emptied of this folk, this pious morn? And, little town, thy streets for evermore          Will silent be; and not a soul to tell                 Why thou art desolate, can e'er return.   O Attic shape! Fair attitude! with brede          Of marble men and maidens overwrought, With forest branches and the trodden weed;          Thou, silent form, dost tease us out of thought As doth eternity: Cold Pastoral!          When old age shall this generation waste,                 Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say'st,          "Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all                 Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know."

The Folktale Project

The seizure by England of the country that soon afterward was rechristened Nova Scotia was one of the cruellest events in history. The land was occupied by a good and happy people who had much faith and few laws, plenty to eat and drink, no tax collectors nor magistrates, in brief, a people who were entitled to call themselves Acadians, for they made their land an Arcady. Upon them swooped the British ships, took them unarmed and unoffending, crowded them aboard their transports,—often separating husband and wife, parents and children,—scattered them far and wide, beyond hope of return, and set up the cross of St. George on the ruins of prosperity and peace. On the shore of the Basin of Minas can still be traced the foundations of many homes that were perforce deserted at that time, and among them are the ruins of Grand Pre.   Host Dan ScholzSubscribe to The Folktale Project at http://folktaleproject.com/subscribe
