Holistic support, including lifestyle changes, is essential for weight management and diabetes, as GLP-1 medications are only one part of the solution. In this episode, Dr. Carolyn Jasik, the Chief Medical Officer of Omada Health, discusses their approach to GLP-1s, emphasizing the importance of wraparound support, including mental health and physical therapy, as well as addressing concerns like muscle loss and the sustainability of weight loss. She highlights that the goal for many people is not to be on these medications forever and that an important element to consider is the rebound physiology that could drive people to regain weight after stopping treatment. Dr. Jasik also shares Omada's perspective on AI, explaining how it assists providers with clinical decision support based on their vast member history but doesn't replace the human connection needed for empathetic care.  Tune in and learn how Omada is leveraging AI to create a more personalized and effective healthcare experience that also focuses on long-term sustainability! About Dr. Carolyn Jasik:Carolyn is a board-certified physician with a background in health technology startups, multidisciplinary care, education, and research. As Chief Medical Officer at Omada, she uses her diverse expertise to improve user experience and introduce integrated healthcare solutions. Before joining Omada, Carolyn spent 14 years at the University of California as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Instructor at San Francisco General Hospital. She also served as Vice President of Medical Outcomes at Mango Health, a digital health startup. Carolyn earned a Bachelor's in Public Policy from Princeton University, a Medical Degree from the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed her research training at the University of California, San Francisco. She is board-certified in clinical informatics, adolescent medicine, and pediatrics. At Omada, Carolyn supports clinical and research teams, contributing to the development of innovative healthcare solutions.Things You'll Learn:GLP-1 medications require comprehensive wraparound support, including lifestyle changes, mental health, and physical therapy, for effective and sustainable outcomes. The speed of weight loss, rather than the GLP-1 itself, is often the primary driver of muscle mass reduction. Many individuals on GLP-1s aim to eventually discontinue the medication, making long-term lifestyle planning a crucial part of the treatment.Stopping GLP-1s abruptly can trigger rebound weight gain due to the body's natural metabolic response.AI's role in healthcare should be focused on enhancing human care delivery, not replacing the crucial empathetic connection. The future of healthcare will include advanced primary care that addresses the gaps between traditional doctor visits.Resources:Connect with and follow Dr. Carolyn Jasik on LinkedIn.Discover more about Omada Health on LinkedIn and their website.

Let's talk about digital identity with Craig Ramsay, Senior Solutions Architect at Omada. What is Identity Governance and Why is it important? Craig Ramsay, Senior Solutions Architect at Omada joins Oscar to explore all things Identity Governance including – the role of Identity Governance in compliance with regulations and standards, how it affects security and risk management for organisation, alongside some real-world examples of Identity Governance in use. [Transcript below] "We're still trying to shake off the thing that - security is a barrier to efficiency. There's an old adage that ‘efficiency is insecure, but security is inefficient'. But I don't think that's true anymore." Craig Ramsay, Senior Solution Architect at Omada, from Edinburgh, Scotland. I have worked at Omada for 3 years and have previously worked at RSA Security and different financial services organisations in the UK within their Identity functions. Outside of work my main interests are hiking and travelling. Connect with Craig on LinkedIn. We'll be continuing this conversation on LinkedIn using #LTADI – join us @ubisecure! Go to @Ubisecure on YouTube to watch the video transcript for episode 102. Podcast transcript Oscar Santolalla: This week I am joined by Craig Ramsay from Omada, here to discuss the importance of identity governance and how it is helping to solve problems in real-world. Stay tuned to find out more. Let's Talk About Digital Identity, the podcast connecting identity and business. I am your host, Oscar. Oscar: Hello, for today's episode about Identity Governance and Administration, mostly known as IGA, we have invited a super interesting guest who is Craig Ramsay. He is a Senior Solution Architect at Omada. He's from Edinburgh, Scotland. He has worked for Omada for three years and has previously worked at RSA Security and different financial services organisations in the United Kingdom within their identity functions. Outside of work, Craig's main interests are hiking and travelling. Hello, Craig. Craig Ramsay: Hey, Oscar. How are you doing? Oscar: Very good. Nice talking with you. Craig: Thank you, you too. Oscar: So, let's talk about digital identity. As usual, we want to hear more about our guests. Please tell us about yourself and your journey to this world of identity. Craig: Sure. So, I mean, thank you for the introduction. And I guess, in terms of my journey into identity, it was a little bit by fluke rather than by design. I studied Computer Science and when I graduated, I joined an operational IT graduate scheme. They had recently started a new IAM project, because I think back in 2008, identity and access management, identity governance wasn't as mature as it is now. It was still kind of seen as an operational IT project rather than an information security principle. So, the drivers there were more about the efficiency, automated provisioning and stuff. But yeah, they were looking for a graduate on that project. That was me. And apart from a few years where I decided to try what it was like being a policeman, I have worked in identity ever since either for, as you said, financial services organisations doing the work at the coalface or for vendors, either in project delivery or, and you know pre-sales in my solution architect role. Oscar: Excellent. So, let's go first with the basics. We have not talked about IGA yet in this podcast, have not focused on that. So, tell us, what is that? What is Identity Governance and Administration, IGA? What is important? Craig: Sure. So, I mean, identity governance, when you focus on it, at its core, it's a solution that will ensure the right individuals have the right access for the right reasons at the right time in your organisation. So, it's protecting the authorisations or the resource assignments within your organisation. And that's often policy-driven to ensure that all of, and I think the important distinction here when we talk...

Chronic diseases are the result of a combination of genetic, physiological, environmental and behavioral factors. They require long-term management and often behavioral changes. Achieving long-lasting effects can be extremely difficult, and digital health solutions have since the beginning been seen as an important factor in assuring success, by providing patients with continuous monitoring and feedback. Omada Health is a US digital behavioral medicine company that uses digital tools and personalized support to help individuals living with prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, and musculoskeletal issues. It's been present on the market for over a decade, so in this discussion, you will hear the CEO Sean Duffy talk about what exactly does Omada do differently compared to traditional chronic care management providers, we discussed approaches to providing sustainable long-term chronic care management, and touched the topic of the sharp rise in popularity of GLP-1 inhibitors, we've seen in the last year. Many healthcare startups are launched each year and it isn't easy to get traction.  When a company does thrive in this complex industry, you know it has a solid value proposition and Omada Health has just that. Omada Health began almost 12 years ago with a focus exclusively on pre-diabetes. They wanted to get ahead of the problem by helping individuals make lifestyle changes that would help keep them from becoming a diabetic.   Omada health has since expanded into a platform that offers coaching for diabetes – including prevention, hypertension and MSK. Omada Health is a trusted platform for employers and health plans alike.   With me is Sean Duffy, Co-founder and CEO of Omada Health and he will share how Omada Health has transformed into a healthcare platform and how they have had staying power in the business.   Favorite Books:  The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell; The Martian by Andy Weir; Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order by Ray Dalio; The Social Transformation of American Medicine: The Rise of a Sovereign Profession and the Making of a Vast Industry by Paul Starr.

In the ‘point solution versus platform' debate, mark another score for integration as Vida Health jumps into the musculoskeletal (MSK) care space. This is a move we've seen before among the digital health chronic condition management set (remember when Omada acquired Physera, Dario Health acquired Upright, and everyone was waiting to see if Livongo would make a play for Sword or Hinge?) so why is Vida just jumping in now? Dr. Patrick Carroll, Vida Health's Chief Medical Officer, lets us in on the strategy behind the startup's move into the MSK space and what it signals about how employers (and their employees) are starting to view digital health and virtual care within the larger scope of available care options out there. As for Vida's MSK program, it's different than what you might expect. According to Pat, the program is strictly focused on lower back pain and helping members quickly find the physical therapy and, if needed, mental health care that can make a real difference to their overall health in a manner of weeks. If something more complex is discovered, Pat says Vida is working with partners – including those digital-first MSK clinics – to refer out. Is this the long-term play or will Vida eventually build out or buy its way further into MSK? We find out what's ahead for the cardiometabolic care company as it launches yet another new offering to improve access to care. * Jessica DaMassa, the emerging ‘It girl' of health tech interviewing, chats it up with the ‘who's who' of the health tech and healthcare innovation set on 'WTF Health - What's the Future, Health?' Back in 2014, when Sarah Blanchard became committed to landing her first CFO position, she kept a key criterion in mind: Her future company had to be mission-driven. “I ended up in digital health before anyone really knew what digital health was,” explains Blanchard, who received her first CFO appointment from Omada Health, an early-stage health tech firm whose flagship product at the time was a diabetes prevention offering.   “When you talk about a mission that can have a huge impact on the world and a huge impact on humanity and our economy, this was something that I felt lucky to be a part of,” comments Blanchard, who admits to having had limited experience prior to Omada when it came to raising capital and being face-to-face with investors. “I had two choices: I could raise money from life sciences investors or I could raise money from tech investors, and they both tend to be creatures of habit—they like to see patterns,” observes Blanchard, who still seems to savor the dual challenge of opening the minds of two distinct groups of investors. Notes Blanchard: “I would spend lots of my time in trying to help life sciences investors understand how and why we could scale a healthcare company so quickly and at the same time help technology investors understand why ARR was not a metric for us, even though we were selling into enterprises.” Meanwhile, Blanchard's tenure at Omada endowed her with a degree of extra vigilance when it comes to company pricing models.    “Omada had an outcomes-based pricing model—which was really novel at the time—meaning that we didn't really make any revenue if we weren't driving outcomes,” explains Blanchard, who adds that the model was flawed due in part to the firm's assumption that the number of lessons completed by participants was a worthy “milestone” and indicator of positive outcomes. “We were focusing on driving people to complete lessons, but lesson completion, while it's correlated with weight loss, it is not weight loss, and it is not a reduction in the risk of getting diabetes, which is what we were all about,” recalls Blanchard, whose efforts to repair the model ultimately involved tasking the company's data scientists with a mission to better expose the connection between participant weight loss and outcomes. Says Blanchard: “After we switched over to a percent-weight-loss-per-month model, we began getting paid for real outcomes.” –Jack Sweeney

On today's episode of the RecruitingDaily Podcast, William Tincup speaks with Sean Duffy, co-founder and CEO at Omada Health about how companies can help their employees manage chronic health conditions.Omada Health is a virtual care provider that specializes in disease areas where a virtual first approach is the best approach for both the person and to pull costs out of the healthcare system. They specialize in health conditions such as: pre-diabetes, diabetes, hypertension, mental health, and musculoskeletal disease for people suffering from muscle and joint pain. Some conversation highlights:A lot of people have forgone needed care during the pandemic, which is a huge problem. That's where we're so proud of what we do at Omada, that in the context of a world where it's not easy for people to go in and get the care they need, we have to bring it to them. COVID really illustrated that need. The current healthcare system is not set up to do that. It requires lots of day by day, minute by minute support of people. It's very inconvenient for employees to take two hours off of work and go into a session in person. That's an area where digital can make a huge difference and you can prevent diabetes progression. You can prevent progression from early diabetes to later diabetes. You can prevent progression of modest musculoskeletal challenges to severe. And that's really the power of virtual care. It's taking that proactive approach versus just waiting, "Oh, well, I'm going to wait until someone books a visit with me."Tune in for the full conversation. What's next for many of us is changing. Your company's ability to hire great talent is as important as ever – so you'll be ready for whatever's ahead. Whether you need to scale your team quickly or improve your hiring process, Greenhouse gives you the right technology, know-how and support to take on what's next.

The healthcare industry in the U.S. can feel like a slow moving, bureaucratic, dysfunctional mess. But the question is: What is the best way to activate a digital transformation that leads to better care for people? Sean Duffy, the Co-founder and CEO of Omada Health, suggests that fitting innovative digital care into the current model is the best strategy to make the most constructive change.Main TakeawaysProviding Proactive Care: Proactive care is difficult in the current in-person model; in part, because care is associated as occurring mostly during in-person experiences. Digital care through Omada operates differently in that Omada's support team is able to provide monitoring without reliance on in-person office visits for the majority of care. Omada also provides prescriptions for monitoring devices and ships them right to the patient. Working Within the System: Given the longstanding structures of the U.S. healthcare system, it is important that companies looking to innovate appreciate the realities of the system and be willing to work inside it in order to make changes. For Omada Health, this even comes down to making semantic choices regarding care that best fit into the current healthcare lexicon. Creating a Culture of Innovation: With half a million users, Omada has been able to collect a lot of potentially useful data. Omada created the Omada Insights Lab in order to create a culture of innovation where its employees would use this trove of information in order to ask different questions and come up with solutions. Now, Omada has been able to open up this information to its customers so that they can also weigh in with their own ideas.IT Visionaries is brought to you by the Salesforce Platform - the #1 cloud platform for digital transformation of every experience. I also led an investment in Maximus when I was at my previous firm. In my conversation with Cameron we discussed his experience studying Cognitive Neuroscience at Harvard, his career before founding Maximus, his company and more. Here are some questions I asked Cameron during our conversation: What made you choose Cognitive Neuroscience at Harvard? Were you interested in human behavior growing up? You went from being a scientist to start working in technology. When was the moment it clicked and you felt that moving to San Francisco would be interesting to pursue your career? What were some of the most interesting or important experiences, now that you are building Maximus, that you took from that hypergrowth through Omada? After leaving Omada you started a company in the keto nutrition space before founding Maximus. However, you sold it. How was your experience with that? While you were talking I was thinking what's going to happen when we have kids. How are we going to raise them in the correct way? What do you think about this? Was there a moment in your life, when you realized that you needed to make Maximus your mission? If you want to become a customer or learn more about the community what is the Maximus protocol? Dear Friends & Colleagues,On Friday March 27th 2020, I launched a limited podcast series addressing how the COVID-19 pandemic is reframing American healthcare.  You can find the introductory episode here.  In this series, I am interviewing future-facing, courageous healthcare leaders and entrepreneurs - asking two questions: (1) How is the COVID-19 pandemic immediately changing the way you are delivering healthcare?   (2) How will COVID-19 reframe American healthcare for years to come? The situation is changing rapidly. So, in order to share the remarkable insights from these interviews, as quickly as possible, I’m releasing new episodes as frequently as I can.Our guest this week is Sean Duffy - the co-founder and CEO of Omada Health, one of the leading digital healthcare companies.  I had the good fortune of meeting Sean about 8 years ago, in the early phases of Omada Health.  After a couple of hours of listening to Sean, I was completely enamored with him, his vision and mission, and with the approach he was taking.  It was, and is, breath-taking and brilliant.  Omada Health is based on solid evidence-based medicine. It’s also based on the science of behavior change - which you’ll hear more about in this interview.  I won’t go into any depth providing Sean’s background; but instead, I would urge you to listen to the first interview I posted with Sean on Nov 7, 2017 - I believe is was episode #12 of Creating a New Healthcare.   For those of you who have read my book, Reframing Healthcare, you’ll know that I quote Sean extensively in the book.  Sean and Omada Health have come a long way in the past few years.  Omada Health has come a long way in the past couple of years.  And, as you’ll hear in this interview, Omada has come a long way in the past couple of months during the COVID-19 pandemic.  There are numerous critical lessons for the future of US healthcare that emerge from this interview.  The major take home lesson for me is that chronic condition management is more - much more - than a virtual visit or a remote monitoring device.  As Sean points out, it takes a lot of finely tuned and expertly managed instruments, playing all together in sync, from the same symphonic sheet to make meaningful, beautiful and emotionally moving music.  Omada Health has taken a holistic or “whole person” approach, which includes: remote monitoring; 24/7 asynchronous “signal” collection and responsiveness; machine learning and automated responses that enhance customization and personalization of care; expert health coaching and group facilitation; the power of social community to enhance engagement and behavior change; the inclusion of behavioral health monitoring and treatment into its general chronic condition management programs; and advanced motivation and behavior change approaches that include behavioral economic and habit formation techniques.Omada Health has existed in the digital/virtual/remote realm for many years prior to the COVID-19 era.  As a result, they have a vast trove of experience delivering care in this advanced way, and they can innovate at an accelerated pace.  Another major ‘ahah’ for me during this interview was the point Sean made about the data that is being collected.  Omada Health has, for years, been collecting physiologic, emotional and behavioral signals continuously.  As a result, they’re able to, in real time, analyze and understand how the various phases of the pandemic are affecting its clients and the populations they serve.  This has allowed them to rapidly iterate and adjust their care offerings to anticipate and meet their clients’ current and evolving needs during the pandemic.  This capability will contine to serve them and their clients in the post-COVID-19 era.  One example of the “signals” they’ve been able to collect in real time is the marked increase in depression and anxiety, which they’ve  almost immediately responded to by the inclusion of more behavioral health services in their programs.  I came away from this interview with a greater appreciation for the work that Omada Health has been doing.  My hope is that healthcare systems across the country take advantage of these 'representatives from the future'; and collaborate in a way that allows us to collectively leapfrog into a more advanced system of health, that not only delivers better care but also delivers more humanistic care.   Until next time, be safe and be well.Zeev Neuwirth, MD
