Hailing from a tiny rural village called Collon, in Co. Louth, Ireland, Clare Cunningham is an independent, award-winning singer-songwriter (including 12 nominations at the upcoming Josie Music Awards, which will be held at the Grand Ole Opry on Oct 22nd 2023), performing, touring, and recording artist. Her raspy, Celtic, soulful voice, with the ability to span across a multitude of genres, is what leads her to be an extremely unique artist. Her 'GRAND OLE OPRY' debut (March 18th, 2023) was a sold-out show and an accomplishment that's extremely rare as a completely independent artist. A surprise add-on to the bill on the night was her childhood idol, GARTH BROOKS, and TRISHA YEARWOOD. Clare also performed with STEVE EARLE, singing his infamous ‘Galway Girl' as a duet. As if the stars had aligned, Clare had only just starred in the new GARTH BROOKS documentary ''GARTH BROOKS: COMING HOME'' - An exploration of the life of the country music star, looking at his biggest songs. These relationships have influenced his career and his love affair with Ireland. Clare shares her journey, her faith, and how her music trascends oceans, culture, and her goal to help those who suffer from mental illness. Last night Ed Sheeran played to a 48 thousand strong crowd at Wellington's Sky Stadium. During the performance, the global pop superstar seemed to have forgotten the lyrics to one of his smash hit songs -- Galway Girl. He asked a member of the audience to come on stage and help him out -- with Pippa heeding the call. Her father Tim Guerin told Nick Mills how she was feeling. She's married to an Irishman, a friend of mine. I had the band in my house for an extra day so I was like, 'what can I write about? This week, Be Grand becomes Bflat Grand as our guest is the composer Sarah Lynch, who has composed for film, television, and gaming. One of the most powerful tools a movie has to tell its story is music. From the excitement of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” to the sadness of “Schindler’s List”, a good score can elevate a scene into greatness. Sarah joins Andy to chat about the process of creating a score for film and computer games, and what it feels like to go from playing the fiddle to get into pubs as a teenager, to hearing the John Williams orchestra play your score. She also chats about being mistaken for Ed Sheeran’s “Galway Girl” and playing music for the TV phenomenon “Normal People”, having lived the “Normal People” life in Trinity College herself. Sarah currently features as part of Women in Harmony whose cover of “Dreams” is raising money for Safe Ireland. This wonderful project also features Be Grand’s good pal Niamh Farrell, plus tonnes of other incredible artists whilst raising money for an incredible worthy cause. You can find more info on Sarah’s Twitter page linked below and you can donate to Safe Ireland by texting SAFE to 50300 to donate 4euro. https://twitter.com/lynchsc

The sixteen-time Grammy nominee and three-time winner joins us to talk about his remarkably varied body of songwriting from country to to rock to political songs to Americana and contemporary folk. EPISODE DETAILS: PART ONE Scott and Paul tell you how you can hear their wild story about getting ready for the Steve Earle interview, and they explain why this episode is particularly special. PART TWO - 7:12 mark Paul and Scott head over to Steve's Los Angeles hotel to get the details on how a Chicago radio station saved his career; why reading is more important than listening to records; the book Townes Van Zandt loaned him that transformed his view of writing; the concert that inspired Steve to write "Guitar Town;" what he really thinks of the "Copperhead Road" line-dancing phenomenon; the first song he wrote after a long period of drug addiction and homelessness; why bluegrass is like bebop; who he says is THE badass country singer/songwriter in Nashville today; why he's working on a new political album that isn't just about preaching to the choir; and which song he would play for Guy Clark today to try to impress him. ABOUT STEVE EARLE Singer, songwriter, musician, author, actor, record producer, and progressive political activist Steve Earle rose to prominence in the 1980s with his album Guitar Town, which topped the Billboard country album chart, earned two Grammy nominations, picked up a Top New Male Artist nomination from the Academy of Country Music, and is included among Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of all Time. Raised in Texas, Earle launched his career in Nashville playing bass in legendary songwriter Guy Clark’s backing band. Following a stint recording with a rockabilly-influenced sound for Epic Records, Earle switched to MCA where he broke through with now-classic songs such as “Guitar Town,” “Someday,” “Goodbye’s All We’ve Got Left,” “My Old Friend the Blues,” “Fearless Heart,” “Nowhere Road,” “I Ain’t Ever Satisfied,” “The Devil’s Right Hand,” “The Other Kind,” and “Copperhead Road,” which reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. Drug addiction, homelessness, and a period of incarceration derailed Earle’s career for several years before he reemerged in the mid-1990s as standard-bearer for contemporary folk and Americana music. His eclectic comeback albums Train a Comin’, I Feel Alright and El Corazon garnered near-universal critical praise. The new millennium found Steve continuing to earn attention for his songs, including “Galway Girl,” “John Walker’s Blues,” “Jerusalem,” “The Revolution Starts Now,” and “City of Immigrants.” Always difficult to categorize, Steve has recorded the highly-acclaimed bluegrass album The Mountain with The Del McCoury Band, a traditional blues album called Terraplane, and a duet album with Shawn Colvin. In total, Earle has released nineteen studio albums and has earned sixteen Grammy nominations, including three wins in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category. Steve’s songs have been covered by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Patty Loveless, Joan Baez, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Wanda Jackson, Bob Seger, Levon Helm, and many others. His son, Justin Townes Earle, is a respected singer-songwriter in his own right.

The ladies of Sex & Studio City have been MIA, but for good reason. After jet-setting to Ireland for 10 days, they recap their whirlwind trip of endless pubs, endless adventures, and a dolphin thrown in for sh*ts and gigs. Kayley and Jenny took off from LA straight to Dublin where they met an Irish boy-bander, a new friend they call Shambles, and of course to see their lucky charm, Johnny. From Dublin they traveled to Wexford to celebrate Jenny’s birthday, they landed in Galway to hear a live Irish band play ‘Galway Girl,’ next to Dingle where they saw an Irish dolphin by day and danced to the Irish version of the Thong Song by night, headed to Doolin to see endless Irish cows, and back to Dublin where they got the shift at Coppers. Take a listen for all of the Irish deets. So class.
