In The Verdict and the Aftermath, we present our coverage of the verdict in the trial of Alex Murdaugh, as well as the aftermath of the case. Before we begin this final episode of Season 8 of Jury Duty, we want to let you know, that we are suspending publication of this Jury Duty Podcast, as well as further publication on our flagship website, CrimeStory.com, to focus our energies on other endeavors that are only possible because of the work we've done here at Jury Duty and over at CrimeStory.com. One of those new endeavors is a podcast produced by our sister company, Pleasant Run Productions. “Shadow of Hope” explores the history of the People of Hope, a Catholic Covenant Community. At their peak in the 1980s, the People of Hope took over a parish in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, clashed with local residents, and built the suburban equivalent of a compound.Over eight episodes, host Karen Ann Coburn tries to find out what led regular people – her neighbors, classmates, and friends – to commit their lives to this secretive group. In the process, she reveals the truth about life inside a Covenant Community and ponders the question, “What price are we willing to pay to belong to something bigger than ourselves?”Meanwhile, over nine seasons here at Jury Duty, we've covered the trials of Robert Durst, Kyle Rittenhouse, Travis and Gregory McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan (convicted for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery), former Olympic equestrian Michael Barrisone, Harvey Weinstein, Danny Masterson, OJ Simpson, and Alex Murdaugh. Over the last four and a half years, this podcast series has generated nearly five million downloads. For a more detailed and thorough overview of the work we've accomplished both at Jury Duty and across the Crime Story Media Endeavors, head over to our Farewell Page at CrimeStory.com. Most importantly, we want you to know that we are so grateful to all of you for following us on this journey, and we hope you will stay tuned for what comes next. Hosted on Acast. Subscriber-only episodeThe Dinicola family of Scotch Plains, New Jersey is used to having lots of dogs around. They provide a foster home for dogs awaiting adoption, a specialized commitment that requires patience and a love of animals. One particular dog was a hard sell because of his skittish personality. So, they got special permission to adopt Jordan and he's now a family member. Their story is immortalized in the children's book Jordan and the Fosters, written and published by dad Joe Dinicola and illustrated with the help of AI. Joe, a software tester who works from home, juggled his full-time job, his three kids and four dogs and somehow found time to write the story and create the illustrations with the help of the Midjourney platform. The result is a sweet story with beautiful illustrations. Our conversation digs into the process of fostering pets, writing and using AI as a tool of story telling.Find the book:https://hfg.jordanandthefosters.fun (a portion of the sales price supports Home For Good Dog Rescue, Berkeley Heights, New Jersey)AmazonBarnes and NobleJoe's book websiteWhadya think of this episode>Subscribe to the Type. In this episode of CHATTINN CYBER, Marc Schein interviews Joseph J. Lazzarotti, Principal in the Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He founded and currently co-leads the firm's Privacy, Data and Cybersecurity practice group, edits their Privacy Blog, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) with the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Trained as an employee benefits lawyer focused on compliance, Joseph also is a member of the firm's Employee Benefits practice group. During the conversation, Marc and Joseph explore the latter's insightful cybersecurity journey, Jackson Lewis's growth and service offerings, and the importance of better client-service provider rapport in cyber insurance. Joseph started at Jackson Lewis in the early 2000s as an ERISA and tax attorney doing employee benefits work. At the same time, the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and the first data breach notification law in California were passed, which piqued Joseph's interest. It led him to investigate cyber security issues for clients, and he gradually built a growing team around it. Jackson Lewis stands as a forerunner in insurance panels with a fair advantage of deep experience dealing with carriers. They understand the rate pressures, the need for responsiveness, the process of doing insured work, and encourage meaningful customer relationships. Over the years, clients have started to become more engaged in buying cyber insurance. Though one could attribute it to a contractual obligation, they're mainly concerned about dependent business interruption from a cyber incident. To help with that, Joseph advises firms to examine the coverages, risks, retention, coinsurance, and related aspects to better understand the client business and help them achieve their sayings wisely. Interestingly, people tend to have a good relationship with their brokers on the health plan side. Joseph hints at how the trend is gradually setting in in cyberspace as more cyber firms are working on building better client relationships by assessing and handing policies that genuinely benefit them. Further in the dialogue, Marc and Joseph discuss cyber compliance and its ever-changing landscape. Though the term has existed for a long time, it has continually evolved with new amendments to cyber laws and acts and varies from institution to institution. It's necessary to comply with any regulations, for non-compliance can impact your reputation. Highlights: “Compliance is a great word, and it means different things to different people. Some people, when they hear compliance, they're like, well, if we're 80% of the way there, that's good enough, that's compliant.” “Compliance also means doing all the things that you need to do with respect to the regulatory environment in which you're in. And for different companies, that means different things.” “You may not be able to make information available to your customers, you may impact your reputation, all of that also plays into compliance in the sense that if we comply with a reasonable set of safeguards, we can really save our business.” “What's interesting there is this personal liability, potentially, right with fiduciary obligations under ERISA for companies that don't do that, for individuals who don't meet their fiduciary role, as well as on the other side for advisors and other entities that service plans.” Time-Stamps: [00:43] - Joseph's entrepreneurial journey [03:43] - Where to contact Joseph [05:17] - Advice around insurance coverage for clients [12:33] - Cyber compliance amid the rapidly changing organizational landscape Connect with Joseph: Email: joseph.lazzarotti@jacksonlewis.com

Oral Arguments for the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
Mondelli v. Berkeley Heights Nursing
Growing up in the 1950s in the only Chinese family in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, Billie Tsien always felt like an outsider. She would seclude herself in the shower of her family’s home’s master bathroom, behind closed doors, escaping into books for hours before her parents, who had originally moved to America from Shanghai to study at Cornell, would find her. Through this Tsien developed a deep understanding of the value of a rich interior life—a concept she has gone on to apply to her work at the New York–based architectural practice Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects Partners (TWBTA), which she co-founded with her husband, Tod Williams, in 1986. The ethereal craft inherent in TWBTA’s structures, which include parks, libraries, museums, and other people-focused places, emanates from Billie and Tod’s belief that architecture is an act of service, and an opportunity to create quiet moments where visitors can indulge in the simple yet powerful emotions that can be stirred when encountering beauty. When Tsien, now 72, reflects on her firm’s philosophy—which entails making buildings that transcend solutions, that respect the earth, and that are measured by the lives lived within them—it’s clear that she profoundly, even poetically, shapes each project’s awe-inspiring energy. Tsien’s deliberate, unhurried methodology is apparent in everything she does. She advocates for listening and community engagement—a central part of her firm’s high-profile, often controversial public works, such as Philadelphia’s Barnes Foundation (2012), Dartmouth College’s Hood Museum of Art (2019), and Chicago’s Obama Presidential Center, which is slated to break ground this fall. Tsien and her staff spend time with the craftspeople who create many of their materials—including Dutch textile artist Claudy Jongstra, whose vibrant felt paintings grace the walls of New York’s David Rubenstein Atrium (2009), and Danish brick-makers whose product features on the facade of dormitories at Pennsylvania’s Haverford College (2012)—and select them according to the emotional responses they elicit. She gives the same focused attention to the holistic experience of a building as she does the handrails that will go inside it. When it comes to the planet, Tsien thinks buildings should embrace measurable ways to minimize their environmental footprints as well as immeasurable ones, such as the meandering pathways of the LeFrak Center (2013), in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, that invite people to appreciate the natural wonders around them.On this episode, Tsien details the origins of and rationale behind her approach to the built environment, talking with Spencer about designing structures as containers for life, why history doesn’t unfold in a straight line, and architecture as both an honor and a responsibility.

Four years ago I was introduced to a man who, I didn't know it at the time, was placed in front of me to turn me and put me and my business on the right path. He was and still is my guide and a big part of the reason that Advantage Strength is what it is today. Today on the FLF, I sit down with MY coach Vince Gabriele, founder of Gabriele Fitness in Berkeley Heights, NJ to talk about the importance of mindset when it comes to fitness. At Gabriele Fitness, Vince developed what he calls the Success Pyramid. Mindset is at the base of that pyramid because the way you frame your health and fitness (or anything else for that matter) determines your potential to have success. On this episode, we will talk to Vince about getting your mindset right, and other important topics like... the 4 things necessary for you to have success with your health and fitness the 2 Mindsets (one will springboard you to success, the other will derail you) why you MIGHT not need to exercise as much as you think the importance of "keystone habits" the only 2 recovery tools you need (hint: they are free, and you already have them) what world-famous author and marketer Seth Godin says about what a gym should do Hope you enjoy this very special episode of The FitLife Formula Podcast with special guest Vince Gabriele.
