For the first time since the third-ever episode of TCBCast, we're immersing ourselves fully in the music of the US Army's own Tulsa MacLean! Bec and Justin explore the three recording sessions in April & May 1960 that led to the iconic, bestselling #1 album. As it turns out, unusual for Elvis sessions, numerous songs had vastly different arrangements attempted as Elvis and the band struggled to find their footing with the material, as well as contend with external pressures that frustrated Elvis. With classic pop-tinged songs like "Wooden Heart," "Pocketful of Rainbows" and "Doin' the Best I Can" supplemented by material that alluded back to Elvis's earlier 1950s stylings like "Blue Suede Shoes," "Frankfort Special" and "Shoppin' Around," this was a ton of fun to explore. For Song of the Week, Justin decided to pick "Let's Be Friends," which was cut from the film "Change of Habit" and instead became the title track of a low-budget compilation the following year, and tries to puzzle out where it might have fit in the movie's story. Then Bec lays all her cards on the table, selecting "From A Jack to A King," the country classic that Elvis almost semi-jokingly laid down at Chips Moman's American Sound Studio. If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. Your support allows us to continue to provide thoughtful, provocative, challenging and well-researched perspectives on Elvis's career, his peers and influences, and his cultural impact and legacy.

What is WTF divorce? Divorce is confusing. It's deeply isolating. It's...a mindf*ck. Rob Roseman is a divorced dad to 3 kids (ages 10, 8, 5), curated WTFdivorce.com. WTF divorce to help other people (who aren't scrolling Instagram, TikTok and Clubhouse for help like I was) have a chance to learn about how to live after divorce. ? But the biggest thing I learned is that you're not the only one going through it. Hopefully, WTFdivorce.com helps you find your way. Sheds light on issues you're struggling with. Gives you a boost of confidence. Or even, makes you laugh. Because, while painful at times, divorce is the ultimate opportunity to restart your life, on your terms, Rob appreciates everyone for stopping by his site and looks forward to walking this path with you. A few interesting things about Rob: ? • He is a former Las Vegas Poker Pro • Notorious Who Wants to Be a Millionaire contestant • Co-founder of KickstartReading.com • He has interviewed over 110 dads (like Jesse Itzler & Pat Flynn) on the Dad the Best I Can podcast • Author of a 5-star rated book on Amazon

We had the pleasure of interviewing Sofi Vonn over Zoom video!London based New York born electronic pop singer-songwriter Sofi Vonn released her latest single “Songs” today, following an exclusive premiere yesterday with Pop Culturalist. This single followed the success of Sofi's recently released singles “what you started”"Ghost" and "Best I Can" as well as the success of her debut EP That Was A Close Call that was released at the end of 2021 following an exclusive premiere and interview with LADYGUNN. “Songs” is the first single release from Sofi in the build up to her sophomore EP set for release later this year. Sofi's deep lyrics and light melodies create a set of contradictions that somehow fit together perfectly to tell a relatable narrative of youth. With her exceptional voice, she deftly expresses emotions and opinions on society, love, sexuality, and all the other things that everyone goes through. Vonn's music draws from her personal experiences which have taken her across the world and back several times. In the build up to the release of her debut EP Sofi premiered a handful of singles off the EP with outlets like Hollywood Life, and QueertyBorn and raised in New York City to German parents, she grew up in the artistic driven West Village neighborhood drawing musical influence from a variety of different backgrounds which has given her the freedom to come up with an artistic style that is uniquely her own. Following High School in Zürich, Switzerland Sofi felt confused as she considered what to do post-graduation. Sofi took a break from music and attended Tulane University in New Orleans where she earned a degree in psychology (with a German minor), but as fate would have it, she was brought back to music when she studied abroad in Berlin, Germany for a year.Besides DJing at a festival, she also studied sound engineering for a bit before finally landing a full-time job with the BMG record label, which brought Vonn back to her hometown of New York City. Her work at the label taught her marketing skills that she then used to help her advance her DJ career at night. She became an in-demand house and techno DJ, booking numerous shows around the city for the next two years.Unlike many pop singers, Vonn writes all of her own material. A vibrant storyteller, her depth of feeling and love for her craft is evident in every track. Her warm and powerful voice is the perfect means for conveying her lyrics, which are at once introspective yet universal. Concurrent with her formal music education. With everything in place Sofi Vonn is now ready to start the buildup to the release of her sophomore EP, so stay tuned to Sofi's socials below for updates from Sofi including new music as well as upcoming concerts. We want to hear from you! Welcome Back to Blue Moon Vibes! The podcast that makes you laugh a lil' bit, cry a lil' bit, and think a lil' bit! My goal is to be the one that gives you more than you asked! I hope you can find value in these topics, and they become something that you talk amongst your friends and family about! Don't shy away from challenging issues because that is where growth happens! The change you want to see is the change you must create! We are worthy, we are tenacious, we are strong, and we are purposeful! The only way to erase the divide is to unite as a nation and treat each other as people, with respect and courtesy! Not Goodbye, but See you Later It's The End Hello, my friends. Well, we have been together for a while now, but there comes a time when you just need a break, and that time has come for me. I am mentally exhausted, my friends. I have so many things going on, and I have chosen to take a step back from everything for a moment just to regroup. Now, this does not mean that I am letting go. This does not mean that I am quitting; what it means is that I have reached a point where I don't feel I am giving it my all, and I don't want to just put anything out there for you guys. I want it to be enjoyable and something you can talk with your family about. I have been going on 1000 for almost nine months with no break and hardly any rest, and I am about to break, so I'm going to step away before I reach that point. I didn't just want to vanish and not give you guys some reason because I feel like we are friends, and you all should know. So as the title says, it's not Goodbye; just see you later for now. Right now, I plan to return in July, provided all goes well and I am back to myself. If not July, I will post the updated anticipated return date on my socials, so make sure you all are following so you don't miss that update. Life is unpredictable sometimes, and some things we just can't control. We have to be in-tune enough to know what those are and strong enough to bow down and accept our rest. So just know, I'm taking rest for me to be better for you and THE BEST I CAN for everything! See you all soon :-) Social Handles Insta: All. that. Justin & Gurdip start off this week's episode answering a listener question about reaction videos on YouTube about Elvis. Then the main topic goes to a strange corner of the Elvis fandom, looking at the history behind the two USPS stamps featuring Elvis' image, including the massive "young vs old Elvis" cultural debate of the early 90s. Then, for Song of the Week, Gurdip does the best he can picking "Doin' The Best I Can" from the 1960 film "G.I. Blues." Justin, in the meanwhile, goes full Christmas in July with the biggest holiday hit associated with Elvis. Featured Songs of the Week: Gurdip: Doin' The Best I Can Justin: Blue Christmas

An Alabama native, White moved to Nashville in 1992 and notched his first breakthrough hit in 2000, when White co-wrote “I'm Movin' On” with D. Vincent Williams, which appeared on Rascal Flatt's debut album. The song became a No. 1 hit and was named Song of the Year by both the Academy of Country Music Song of the Year and the Nashville Songwriters Association International. In 2003, White co-wrote the Reba McEntire hit “I'm A Survivor” which also became the theme song for Reba's self-titled hit TV show. White's impressive list of co-writes include such hits as Neil McCoy's “Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On”; Blake Shelton's “Nobody But Me”; Scotty McCreery's “The Trouble With Girls”; Darius Rucker's “Lost In You” (co-written with Rucker and Mark Nesler); and, as featured on the Act of Valor soundtrack, “The Best I Can” co-written and performed by Jake Owen and “Whatever Brings You Back” co-written by Ronnie Bowman and performed by Wynonna Judd.https://www.facebook.com/phillip.white.923https://www.instagram.com/phillipwhitemusic/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/back-story-song/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We discuss New Jersey governor Chris Christie taking advantage of a closed beach during a government shutdown, trying to figure out how different types of Asian food are different, and whether Baby Driver is actually the holy grail of cinema that so many people seem to think it is. We also promote the release of Nate's first single "Best I Can" out July 7!

Jon Williams is one of those rare musicians who play and record for the sheer joy of it, free from expectations of fame -- and uses that freedom to produce fabulous music. Jon is a blues and rock and roll guitarist who has played in bands like Midlife Crisis, Midnight Lightning and now the Little Brother’s Blues Band just because he was having fun.Thye recently released their second album, Spirits, Sinners, Shrews & Blues, a two cd set of classic Chicago blues covers, We play tunes from the set and talk with Jon this Friday. Contemporary R&B newcomer Jasmine Jordan recently released her debut EP Time Travel and kicked off a tour throughout the west coast to support the EP and her new single "Best I Can,". The Washington State native now transplanted to LA manages to bring back the style of 90’s R&B pop, but with a fresh take and modern feel to her songs about love and frustration. Our interview with her Friday should be all of the first and noe of teh second.
I'm hard-pressed to find another booking/promotions outfit that has done as much for the local music as those boys from Shine. People like Ben Cannon are those rare individuals who think about local music and what they can do to make it better practically 24/7. Their continuing efforts show an on-gong dedication to quality and putting the artist and the music first and foremost. These are the people who slap their name on event and then not even show up, figuring that the mere fact that they acknowledged you elevates your standing and their indie credibility. Shine is first and foremost a team, and you can rest assured, they will do everything they can to make sure you succeed. Surviving in the fickle realm of the local music scene is pretty tricky. Expanding yourself year after year with more frequent offerings and entirely new services is very impressive. The fact that they can do this for multiple years now without anybody having a bad thing to say about their experience working with them is an unprecedented and monumental feat. Ryan Gibbons, familiar to many of you as the producer/writer/musician behind such bands as Thursday Book Club, Black Market Binary, and Half-Life ... as well as his own solo work. By adding Ryan's undisputed talents to the Shine arsenal, Ben Cannon has upped the ante on what Shine can do for an artist by adding a high-quality, physical product to supplement the magic of the live performance. For today's show, Ryan brings us six (technically, seven) tracks that he has had a hand in and that showcase the breadth of incredible artistry from our local scene that Shine has partnered with. Links Referenced in the Show: Ryan Gibbons / Shine Studios can be found here . Brandon/Benjamin Cannon of , I suppose is technically a guest and co-host for this episode. You and Who is now available to pre-order(with a provisional publishing date of December 12th 2011)from the Hirst Books website:The legend Babelcolour gives a reading on his YouTube channel:It looks like there'll be an 'official launch' at the Hirst Books Christmas Event in Newbury, on Saturday 10th December, where I'll be signing copies of You and Who, hopefully alongside other, more respectable Hirst authors, such as Michael Troughton and John Leeson, potentially - but not Colin Baker, alas, who'll be appearing in panto in Mansfield that day! More news as and when.“It's a wonderful idea, and I'll be sure to buy the book.”Robert Shearman(author The Chimes of Midnight, Dalek, Tiny Deaths, Love Songs For the Shy and Cynical)You and Who is the definitive volume on what it means to be a Doctor Who fan.The book has been written almost entirely by previously unpublished authors, from the ages of six to sixty, and comprises more than sixty-six essays on the subject of how and why it is that we have come to love Doctor Who.Whether it be a tale of meeting the sixth Doctor, building up a huge library of VHS tapes, or discovering the programme through satellite channel repeats, there's a story in here that almost any fan will recognise as their own.Beautifully written, filled with warmth and generosity, witty and delightful, You and Who is a book that no Doctor Who fan should be without.Available 1 12 2011 from Hirst Publishing. The proceeds will be donated to Children in Need.- J.R. Southall So, here is the contents page! I've arranged the order of the submissions into that which I think best serves the material (and the authors), and I've tried to ensure that no essays too similar sit right next to one another in the book - unless I've specifiaclly wanted them to do so (there were a couple of instances of this). High Class Problems Vol. 1 Featuring the new single ‘Private Garden’ (Produced by 9th Wonder) Release date 8 February 2010 On Hevlar Recordings “The man is a legend with hero status in Bizarre Towers…” Gordon Smart, The Sun “Smooth and laid back, it's the perfect chill-out song…” Rickie Haywood-Williams, MTV Presenter “It’s certainly easy to picture the cool, laid-back tracks being played in clubs and wine bars across the UK…” Keysha Davies, Pride Magazine “Honey dripping cool soul for the grown and sexy…” Chris Phillips, Choice FM February will see Driis release his new hip hop soul EP ‘High Class Problems Vol 1’, featuring his brand new single ‘Private Garden’ produced by 9th Wonder (Jay-Z, Nas, Mary J Blige and Wale). Driis, the musical alter ego of Hackney-born entertainer Idris Elba has been carving out a name in music for years, producing, performing and DJing whilst honing his craft. The uplifting 5-track EP includes the popular Pete Rock-produced single ‘Please Be True’, leak track ‘Best I Can’ as well as new material, preparing music fans for the hotly anticipated album due out late 2010 on Hevlar Recordings. The new single ‘Private Garden’ yet again reveals Driis’ softer side as he attempts to break down the barriers of a broken heart. Delivered in Driis’ trademark style, romantic but raw, masculine yet poetic, the track provides a great teaser for the upcoming release. Finding time during his hectic Hollywood schedule to get back into the studio, perfecting and tweaking his distinct sultry vibe, ‘High Class Problems’ showcases Driis’ maturity as an artist as well as his wide musical palette. “’High Class Problems’ shows off my DJ mentality,” Driis insists, “having that ability to hear what sounds work well together, even if they’re from totally different genres, allows me to push the creative envelope and experiment.” Ever so smooth and confident, it is a skill he has shaped since the early Nineties, having DJ’ed inLondon’s and New York’s hottest clubs. You’ll even find Driis production credits on soundtracks and albums dating back to 2005, including work with Angie Stone and Jay-Z on the seminal ‘American Gangster’ album. Driis is determined that the quality of his music will speak for itself and free him from the actor/musician curse. “It’s a well-trodden road, the whole actors wanting to do music thing,” Driis admits, “but hopefully the passion and heart I’ve put into the release will be clear for all to see, and the music will be judged solely on its merit.” 2010 is set to be another huge year for Idris, who made his name starring as the infamous Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire. Not only will he be starring in major blockbusters including Takers, The Losers and his executively produced feature Legacy, but Driis will also be performing at a series of lives dates across the UK, Europe and the US, as well as several DJ guest spots.
