In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom podcast, Stewart Alsop speaks with Anand Dwivedi, a Senior Data Scientist at ICE, returning for his second appearance. The conversation covers a range of topics including the evolution of machine learning models, the integration of AI into operating systems, and how innovations like Neuralink may reshape our understanding of human-machine interaction. Anand also touches on the role of cultural feedback in shaping human learning, the implications of distributed systems in cybersecurity, and his current project—training a language model on the teachings of his spiritual guru. For more information, listeners can connect with Anand on LinkedIn.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction and Guest Welcome00:25 Exploring GPT-4 and Machine Learning Innovations03:34 Apple's Integration of AI and Privacy Concerns06:07 Digital Footprints and the Evolution of Memory09:42 Neuralink and the Future of Human Augmentation14:20 Cybersecurity and Financial Crimes in the Digital Age20:53 The Role of LLMs and Human Feedback in AI Training29:50 Freezing Upper Layers and Formative Feedback30:32 Neuroplasticity in Sports and Growth32:00 Challenges of Learning New Skills as Adults32:44 Cultural Immersion and Cooking School34:21 Exploring Genetic Engineering and Neuroplasticity38:53 Neuralink and the Future of AI39:58 Physical vs. Digital World41:20 Existential Threats and Climate Risk45:15 Attention Mechanisms in LLMs48:22 Optimizing Positive Social Impact54:54 Training LLMs on Spiritual LecturesKey InsightsEvolution of Machine Learning Models: Anand Dwivedi highlights the advancement in machine learning, especially with GPT-4's ability to process multimodal inputs like text, images, and voice simultaneously. This contrasts with earlier models that handled each modality separately, signifying a shift towards more holistic AI systems that mirror human sensory processing.AI Integration in Operating Systems: The conversation delves into how AI, like Apple Intelligence, is being integrated directly into operating systems, enabling more intuitive interactions such as device management and on-device tasks. This advancement brings AI closer to daily use, ensuring privacy by processing data locally rather than relying on cloud-based systems.Neuralink and Transhumanism: Anand and Stewart discuss Neuralink's potential to bridge the gap between human and artificial intelligence. Neuralink's brain-computer interface could allow humans to enhance cognitive abilities and better compete in a future dominated by intelligent machines, raising questions about the ethics and risks of such direct brain-AI integration.Cultural Feedback and Learning: Anand emphasizes the role of cultural feedback in shaping human learning, likening it to how AI models are fine-tuned through feedback loops. He explains that different cultural environments provide varied feedback to individuals, influencing the way they process and adapt to information throughout their lives.Cybersecurity and Distributed Systems: The discussion highlights the dual-edged nature of distributed systems in cybersecurity. While these systems offer increased freedom and decentralization, they can also serve as breeding grounds for financial crimes and other malicious activities, pointing to the need for balanced approaches to internet freedom and security.Generative Biology and AI: A key insight from the episode is the potential of AI models, like those used for language processing, to revolutionize fields such as biology and chemistry. Anand mentions the idea of generative biology, where AI could eventually design new proteins or chemical compounds, leading to breakthroughs in drug discovery and personalized medicine.Positive Social Impact Through Technology: Anand introduces a thought-provoking idea about using AI and data analytics for social good. He suggests that technology can help bridge disparities in education and resources globally, with models being designed to measure and optimize for positive social impacts, rather than just profits or efficiency.
Today I want to talk about improving and expanding your skill set as a VA. Quote: Education is not the filling of a pot, but the lighting of a fire. - W.B. Yeats How awesome is that quote? I just love it. Education is the lighting of a fire - that is precisely how I want you to think about it! So because I really love this quote that's where I want to start today. Education is not the filling of a pot, but the lighting of a fire. When we first start our VA business, there is much to learn. Most VAs I know love to learn, so that's usually a good thing. Until you get stuck in the learning and you don't move forward. But that's another conversation! Here we are talking about fire. When you got your VA business started, you had a fire in you. You felt passionate about what you were doing, why you were doing it, and you were voraciously reading and learning everything you could about it so you could make a go of it. Then you started your business and either did well or struggled. But in either case, you probably settled down into the day to day and stopped learning. I know for me I got so busy with client work that I really didn't do much for myself anymore. Maybe it's the same for you. But when we learn something new, there is a light that goes on - I think it's that fire - and we see new possibilities, and new pathways to where we want to go. You didn't start your VA business to give yourself a job, you started it to help people. To help yourself and your family. So I want to talk today about how to light that fire - that spark - and get you moving again. PRIVATE COACHING: Let's work together privately to get you to your really big goal. Learning something new can be daunting, especially as you get older. But here's the thing, the sooner you master a new skill, whether it be how to invest in the stock market, manage your debt, or take on a new sport — the closer you are to mastering it. My guest today, Gwendolyn Bounds, author of “Not Too Late: The Power of Pushing Limits At Any Age,” wants you to ignore that nagging voice at the back of your head that says that you don't know enough to get started and just take the first step. She did that when she took on Spartan Racing at age 47 and today, we're talking about the parallels between striving for financial and physical goals at any age. Takeaways: Setting big goals, whether they be physical or financial, and breaking them down into smaller steps is the key to achieving personal growth. Overcoming financial and physical challenges requires perseverance and a willingness to push yourself beyond your comfort zones. Financial and physical challenges share similar processes of setting goals, learning new steps, getting out of your comfort zone, and seeing incremental improvements add up. It's never too late to start pushing limits and pursuing new financial challenges. Over the past two years, surfing has deeply transformed my life, bringing me new friendships, invaluable skills, a revived passion, and much-needed time in nature. It's taught me to embrace challenges, face my fears head-on, and keep my focus on my goals rather than the obstacles in my path. I've learned to let go of my ego, stop worrying about what others think, and simply have fun – leading to naturally better performance. Throughout this journey, I've realised the importance of being both considerate and assertive, taking up space in life unapologetically, and remembering that there's always more opportunities – just like there are always more waves in the ocean. Join me as I dive into these lessons and insights, hoping to inspire you to catch your own “waves” in life too. In this episode you will learn: What my commitment to surfing has brought me and taught me Why we all need to embrace sucking at something at first and face our fears head-on How to develop a healthier relationship with failure and an expanded perspective of self How you can truly align your thoughts with your actions when wanting to try something new The importance of recognising and celebrating growth, even when it's not immediately visible What will happen when you let go of your ego and stop worrying about others' opinions What it means to take up space unapologetically - Are you going to allow yourself to not be good at something in order to progress? There are very few Virtual Assistants that I have met that don't like to learn. In fact, it can be one of our biggest downfalls as business owners - we get distracted by all the new shiny stuff that comes along that we want to learn. So I thought in today's episode I'd talk about learning - and how to do it well. while you are running your VA business. We know that the VA industry is growing at a rapid pace, and has been for many years. There are so many tools and apps and programs and platforms out there that helps us work better with our clients. It's awesome, but if you don't keep on top of what's going on in our online world, you could quickly find yourself behind others. I don't probably have to tell you to learn … like I said, so many VAs I know love to learn. But it is important to be able to learn the right things at the time. That's what we'll cover in today's episode. If you need help figuring out how to find training or budget for it, or implement it, get in touch with me. I'm here to help. It's the only reason I'm here at all, as you know. To help you become a ridiculously good VA. I have helped hundreds of VAs who are stuck get moving. I'd love to do the same for you. We can work together privately, through group coaching, or private and self study trainings. es for this episode. Thanks for tuning in this week! I'll see you next time! We had a couple of students who took us up on it, even though it was fall break, and listened to a session and wanted to meet the speaker afterwards. And what ended up happening is they ended up getting on a call. He invited them to join his research project. They did. They spent nearly all summer working on it…Fast forward to this year's Tech Summit, they were invited to do a thirty minute session to share their findings. We have stories like that in all of the career strands that we offer, but it's just one of those things that you're like, only in Bentonville would something like that happen.” - Jessica Imel, (6:47)“One story that I have is Walmart. The Store 100 was opening a section of the store that would be directed to only fulfilling online orders. And it would be different because it would be very automated. Store associates wouldn't have to go inside the store and take up aisle space, taking up a lot of time. It'd be much more efficient. And we got to meet the CEO personally. I got to talk to John Furner, the CEO of Walmart U.S., and that's something that can only happen in Bentonville. Meeting the CEO of a Fortune 1 company in a store, that would only happen in Bentonville.” - Kaushal Dhumal, (15:43)“We were in DC for a hosted trip, and we got to go to the Capitol building and speak to our state senator. Many of the states had trouble getting access and speaking to their state senator, but Senator Boozman was so friendly with us and we were able to talk to him. And apart from that, just meeting government officials so easily. Like over at our Ignite building, we've had people like Lukas Walton come in, the Senator, the State Secretary of Education, the Walton Family Foundation that have toured our building. And I've had the opportunity to give them those tours. So having people of that level come into our school and try to see what Ignite is and what these different things that us students are doing is just something I believe can only happen in Arkansas. It's a small circle, but we're all tight together.” - Sarthak Chaturvedi, (20:57)“I moved from India here last year, to Bentonville. And I think it's the people in Bentonville, the kindness of the people and how grateful they are. I don't think I've ever made friends so fast and people being so nice to me ever like that. And I think in the past year I've made the best friend circle ever, got these internships, the high school program for Ignite, and I think it's just all these things together that make Bentonville as a whole.” - Aditya Sohaney, (28:25)“We're such a small community, right? But there's so much, there's so many companies and we're able to get those experiences more than somewhere in Dallas where there's so much competition. It's limited to what you can do…but with how small [Bentonville] is, we're able to meet so many people and they remember us too because it's not like they meet thousands of people every day. They remember our faces. So these opportunities to connect with people are helpful.” - Praneel Vakkalagadda, (35:35)
