Johnny Lawrence is long past his glory days, estranged from his son and mother of his child. That is, until he encounters a kid who needs help. Fortunately, Johnny is still bad-ass, and beats up a bunch of minors Miyagi-style. Miguel Diaz becomes the first student of the new Cobra Kai dojo, where Johnny teaches him how to deal with the bullies from West Valley High. Miguel has eyes for Sam, daughter of Johnny's long-time rival and successful auto dealer Daniel LaRusso, who is not very happy about the return of his childhood arch-nemesis, and goes to ridiculous lengths to stop him. Vinnk and Sean catch up on the first two of (so far) five seasons of the Netflix hit show, through the latest incarnation of the All Valley Karate Tournament, the return of Johnn'y sensei John Kreese (now twice presumed dead), and the rise of Daniels rival dojo Miyagi-do. Of course, it wasn't always on Netflix; Cobra Kai began life as the flagship show of the new YouTube Red streaming service for original programming. YouTube Red shuttered, but Netflix stepped in to save Cobra Kai, which truly never dies. Starring: * Ralph Macchio - Daniel LaRusso * William "Billy" Zabka - Johhny Lawrence * Courtney Henggeler - Amanda LaRusso * Marin Kove - John Kreese * Xolo Mariduena - Miguel Diaz * Mary Mouser - Samantha "Sam" LaRusso * Jacob Bertrand - Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz * Peyton List - Tory Nichols Available on Netflix. It took over 2 years but Anne and Crissy can finally claim to be "influencers". It's really remarkable and you'll just have to take a listen to find out how this came about. Plus, would you give up your plane seat so a family could sit together? Have you ever gotten an email from a bunch of spinach? And would you ever guess that all a chimpanzee needs is a hug and a raincoat to make him happy? Or that a story about said chimpanzee would lead Anne to make a connection to the non-stop coverage of the Queen's funeral and thus send her into a rage? I believe the term "box of bones" was bandied about. And no week would be complete without a discussion of an outrageously forgotten or forgettable film. I think this week we hit the mark on both counts with the 1985 film, "Just One of the Guys." Loosely based on Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," this high school comedy has Billy Zabka (of course) in his requisite role of bad guy opposite a James Brown loving outsider - guess who gets the girl...and the dance lessons? This week we are discussing "Ghoulies Go To College" in honor of college spring break and wow does this movie deliver on the craziness because this is the 1st installment that has the Ghoulies speaking. We brought back Nick, who is our creature expert, to help us break this one down. We discussed the difference between "a Prank, a Yank, and a Crank", the actor who voices the cat Ghoulie, the Billy Zabka-like villain, the creepy security guard, and more. PANCAKE! This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/ghouliesGTC The next sequel that will be discussed next is "Aliens ", which is on the Mt. Rushmore of movie sequels. I was lucky enough to interview Ricco Ross who played Frost. Ricco and I 1st connected when we were doing the "Death Wish 3" reunion for Charles Bronson's 100th birthday, but he had something come up, but we did it. s an actor, his first year out of college he booked reoccurring roles on "Hill St. Blues" & "The Young & the Restless". Soon afterward, feeling type-cast, he decided to study Shakespeare for a year in England at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). That year turned into 13 years of living abroad. There he got "Dirty Dozen 2" and became friends with Ken Wahl (great story about Ken), "Death Wish 3", "Aliens", and actually got "Full Metal Jacket", but that's a story you gotta hear. Great chat. Crissy's "Cobra Kai" obsession finally comes to light this week! Little did she know back in '84 that bad apple Billy Zabka, sorry William Zabka, would so entrance her in 2020? Unfortunately Anne can still resist his charms but in discussing, "The Karate Kid", it seems another man has caught her eye. Not who you'd expect. Plus, the wacky world of zoom calls gets another entry into the NSFW Hall of Fame with Jeffrey Toobin, Miley Cyrus has a close encounter and "prisoner on the run" takes on a whole new meaning for one Utah woman. AND, the debut of a new segment, "Poppy's Words of Wisdom" - this is one you just have to hear to appreciate. What a week! Enjoy! The show stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from the original 1984 ‘The Karate Kid’ movie. It is set thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the series focuses on Johnny Lawrence reopening the Cobra Kai dojo, which causes his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso to be reignited. Jon, Hayden and Josh sit down with Kristian to talk about how they got the idea for the show, how it came to be and how they convinced the original actors to return for the show. They also go in depth on the process of working with YouTube Red to bring the project to fruition and throw in some fun behind the scenes stories as well. SHOW NOTES EPISODE 76: “Hillary Is Breaking the Curve” This week heavily hungover host Dave Bledsoe takes the media back to school where with the help of beautiful English professor and lovable cast of misfits he learns to respect his son and finally EARN that degree! We're sorry, that is apparently the plot of a Rodney Dangerfield movie. No, in this week's show we ask whether or not the press is taking it easy on the Donald to make the race more interesting and keep the ratings up through November. (Probably, that or they are scared of him). Along the way we delve into why the lines are so long on the Intrepid, the structural integrity of the sanitary sewers in convents and why Billy Zabka is the quintessential 80's teen movie villain. (Sweep the leg Johnny!) We also try to cast a Raise Dead on Walter Cronkite only to have him blow his Resurrection Roll. Honestly, the DM is being a real ball buster about this. Promotional consideration is provided by Gary's Guides to Great World City The Aleppo Edition! We open the show with YouTuber gfreakj's insights on grading on a curve and close with the music of Wilson Phillips. Shut up, you know you love them! CITATIONS NEEDED? We talk about our history with the film, the wonderful cast, the amazing soundtrack, and why this film hasn't found the appreciative audience that it really deserves...
