Welcome to the best month on the calendar as we give a spirited UAW strike update, peruse the list of new vehicles over the next 18 months, and review the very first show at the site of the NADA Show opening party at the Las Vegas Sphere.Weekend tensions were rising between the UAW and the Detroit 3 as 7000 additional workers went on strike. Ford CEO Jim Farley alleges the union is holding automakers "hostage" with unreasonable demands, stating, "A bad deal would threaten midsize or expensive larger vehicles." and that if the goal was a historic contract, that was already on the table. UAW President Shawn Fain countered by accusing Farley of "lying about the state of negotiations." Fain emphasized, "Bargaining's always a two-way street," and criticized the companies for frequently shifting their stance. The dispute has now engaged approximately 25,000 workers. Nyle Maxwell, owner of four Stellantis stores and chairman of the Stellantis National Dealer Council, voiced concerns about the ongoing strike's impact on inventory and the supply chain. He's been stockpiling fast moving parts and highlighted the potential crunch on Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator inventory. Maxwell emphasized, "any additional strike targets are just going to cripple the entire supply chain." He urges "more strategic thinking and less bluster."Flashback to 2017: Automotive News released its first annual Future Product Pipeline listing all plug-in vehicles headed to market. The Chevrolet Bolt was a fresh face and Elon Musk was touted as a champion of a progressive audience as he announced his ambitious promise of a $35,000 Tesla Model 3 made headlines. Today the Model 3 is the number one selling EV on the market even though it never met that price point, and the Gen 1 Bolt is about to be history. Since then, the automotive landscape has evolved dramatically, and the list of EVs coming to market is longer than the list of ICE vehiclesAcura ZDX, Audi A6 E-tron, Audi Q6 E-tron, BMW i5, BMW i7, BrightDrop Zevo 400, Buick electric crossover, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Cadillac Celestiq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Bolt EUV/EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Cruise Origin, Dodge Challenger EV, Dodge Charger EV, Fiat 500e, Porsche Taycan, Ram 1500 REV, Ram ProMaster, Rivian R1S, Rivian R1T, Rolls-Royce Spectre, Tesla Cybertruck, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Roadster, VinFast VF 6, VinFast VF 7, VinFast VF 9, Volkswagen ID Buzz, Volkswagen ID4, Volkswagen ID7, Volvo EX30, Volvo EX90.Last Friday night, U2 kicked off a new era of live performances at Las Vegas's groundbreaking Sphere venue…which will also be the location of the NADA Show Welcome Reception this year. The $2B Sphere made full use of the 16K, wrap around screen as 18,600 fans lost their minds across social mediaGA, standing room admission was over $200 face value with parking costing $100U2 will play 25 shows at the sphereHosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

While the automaker claims this is the true expression of the Polestar brand, Sami and Benjamin dive into whether or not that's true, drilling into the design language, technology, interior and psychology of the brand. Also, is Polestar luxury or not? Whats the deal here? Then Benjamin rekindles his love affair with all things V8 and powerful by testing out the latest 2022 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack, a large coupe that's in its last year of production. Old-school and still cool, the Scat Pack seems to occupy a sweet spot in the Challenger lineup. Finally, the pair put their heads together and congratulate Cadillac for making a car by hand, something Tesla has done for way too long. The Celestiq will cost an eye watering $300,000 and will be one of the few truly special Caddys out there according to the guys, and you may want to hear why.

Cadillac certainly seems clear about its future product strategy, which shines through in the all-electric Cadillac Celestiq. But how is the American luxury brand working to position itself, from a marketing perspective, in the shifting world of luxury? This episode of To the Point tackles that question, as Cadillac looks to attract more consumers to the brand. Our Guest: Tony Johnson [Director of Marketing, Cadillac]

In this week's episode, it's fricken hot out! Before recording this episode, Adam discovered the tail lights on his Allroad were all jacked up. The car was at the dealership a week ago for a couple recalls, and it looks like they reprogrammed a module back to factory settings - woops. Our movie this week - Lake Placid. Honda unveils the new Civic Type R. A more mild look aesthetically, which can almost guarantee wider acceptance assuming the performance stays the same or better. AJ brings us the Cadillac Celestiq, a $300,000 luxury EV. A new bridge in LA gets broken in by some boneheads, the NHTSA OK's manufacturers to sell replicas of cars older than 25 years old, and BMW issues a statement on their subscription model. In the second half, AJ brings us a melding of two topics - cars and names. What are certain manufacturer's naming conventions? What makes have the most interesting names? We discuss the origin of the word Jeep - is it from the military "GP" or is it from the cartoon Popeye? How car parts got their name. And a brief discussion on how car parts differ in name overseas. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brokecarsnobs/message

Fresno police have launched a citywide operation in response to a recent spike in violent crime. As of Sunday, the Oak Fire had scorched 15,603 acres with no containment, becoming the largest wildfire California has suffered so far this year. Cadillac is going back into a market segment it hasn't occupied in decades: the world of true ultra-luxury cars with huge six-figure price tags. General Motors unveiled the Cadillac Celestiq on Friday, and the company wants it to beat the best in the world. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the nation's first legislation allowing individuals to sue anyone who distributes illegal assault weapons and ghost-guns yesterday at Santa Monica College, the site of a mass shooting that claimed the lives of six people including the gunman in 2013 according to a press statement from the Governor's Office. The would-be attacker who "lunged" at Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., on Thursday told investigators that he "did not know" who the speaker on stage was and said he had been drinking whiskey earlier in the day.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Show #1419 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Tuesday 29th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. REPORT: PORSCHE IS WORKING ON A 911 SPORTS CAR POWERED BY SOLID-STATE BATTERIES - An electric Porsche 911 powered by solid-state batteries is in the works, according to a recent report from German publication Manager Magazin - We do know that Porsche parent Volkswagen has been longtime investor in solid-state battery firm QuantumScape, though. VW previously said it sees solid-state tech arriving later in the decade capable of getting an 80% charge in as little as 12 minutes. Perhaps that's the tech it's testing on the 911. Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1135436_report-porsche-911-sports-car-powered-by-solid-state-batteries GM LOOKS TO INCREASE HUMMER EV PRODUCTION AS RESERVATIONS TOP 65,000 - General Motors has received more than 65,000 reservations for its electric GMC Hummer pickups and SUVs, as the automaker attempts to expedite production of the vehicles to meet demand. - The reservations number is higher than the automaker's initial expectations, according to Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC. The number of people converting their reservations into orders to buy the Hummer pickup, about 95%, is also higher than expected, he said. - “Production's actually slightly ahead of plan and we're putting things in place now to actually expedite that as well, so we can deliver these reservations quicker than we originally thought,” he told CNBC here during a media event. “We're seeing momentum building.” - The Hummer EV pickup is for sale, but new orders would not likely be fulfilled until 2024 due to the number of current reservations - Reservations for the electric Hummers have largely been for the pickup because it was launched first, but newer reservations have been more evenly split between the truck and SUV, according to Megan Hart, assistant marketing manager for Hummer. - March has been the best month for reservations aside from when the vehicles were unveiled, Aldred said. GMC started advertising for the Hummer EV pickup late last month - Due to the price of the vehicle, volumes are lower than other trucks, but it's still profitable, Aldred said. Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/29/gm-looks-to-increase-hummer-ev-production-as-reservations-top-65000.html TESLA MODEL S PLAID SPOTTED BEING BENCHMARKED BY GENERAL MOTORS - A Tesla Model S Plaid has been spotted being benchmarked by General Motors. This suggests that the veteran American automaker is getting pretty serious in its modern electric vehicle program. - Images of the flagship Tesla sedan as it was being benchmarked by GM were shared by motoring outlet GM Authority. Original Source : https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-s-plaid-benchmarking-general-motors/ GM Benchmarking Tesla Model S Plaid - To rival the Tesla Model S Plaid, General Motors will likely develop some competition with a new Cadillac product. This upcoming Caddy will likely be one of the luxury marque's new “low-roof entries,” which is one of several new Cadillac EV models outlined late in 2020. The other Cadillac EVs include an electrified variant of the popular Cadillac Escalade SUV, two new electrified crossovers, and the new Cadillac Celestiq halo sedan. Original Source : https://gmauthority.com/blog/2022/03/gm-benchmarking-tesla-model-s-plaid/ TESLA PRICE INCREASES MEAN NO MORE CALIFORNIA CLEAN VEHICLE REBATES FOR BUYERS  - Tesla hasn't been eligible for the federal EV tax credit for a few years now, and while that initially seemed like it could affect sales for the brands by making its already expensive cars even more so, things more or less rolled on like the change never happened. - Fast-forward to 2022: Tesla's latest round of price increases means that, as CarsDirect reported Thursday, Tesla currently has no models eligible for California's Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which is worth around $2,000 to consumers. - The threshold for cars is $45,000, and the cap for SUVs and crossovers is $60,000. You can't currently put a Model 3 in your driveway for less than $48,440, including destination fees, and a base-spec Model Y will run you $64,440 (and not get delivered until 2023). · Original Source : https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-price-increase-disqualifies-california-clean-vehicle-rebate-project/ STELLANTIS CONFIRMS FIAT NEW 500 EV PRODUCTION WILL REMAIN IN ITALY - The successor to the Fiat New 500 small electric car will continue to be built at the Mirafiori factory complex in Turin, Stellantis confirmed, in announcing new model allocations. - In addition, the factory -- the group's oldest in Italy, dating to 1939 -- will also get two new Maserati models, Stellantis Chairman John Elkann and CEO Carlos Tavares said in a meeting with local officials on Monday. - The New 500, launched in late 2020, was the seventh best-selling full-electric car in Europe in 2021, with 44,371 sales, according to figures from Dataforce - Supplier sources told Automotive News Europe that Stellantis is aiming to build 90,000 New 500s this year, with production increasing to 120,000 in 2023 and requiring a third shift. · Original Source : https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/stellantis-confirms-fiat-new-500-ev-production-will-remain-italy VW COMMERCIAL VEHICLES ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR FURTHER BEV MODELS - VW Commercial Vehicles is aiming for a sales share of battery-electric vehicles of more than 55 per cent in Europe by 2030. Not only the currently announced model series such as the ID. Buzz and the e-Crafter, but also new models with electric drive. - Final preparations are underway at the Hanover plant for series production of the new ID. Buzz. This includes the qualification of more than 5,000 employees for the construction of electric vehicles. - At the same time, the first conversion measures for future fully electric premium vehicles of the Audi and Bentley brands have already begun. A new production hall is being built in the heart of the factory for this purpose. - “We will start series production of the ID. Buzz Cargo”, as announced by Lars Krause, board member for sales at VW Commercial Vehicles. The five-seater version will follow at the end of May. Production of 12,000 to 15,000 units is planned for 2022, followed by 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles in 2023. - Beyond the ID.Buzz and the electric version of the Crafter delivery van, the Amarok pick-up, which is being continued together with Ford, could be a candidate – the model is to be presented in the summer of 2022. More details on a possible electric version of the pickup have not yet been determined, however. The electric camper-mobile ID. California will come after 2025. Electric vehicle owner Max Wilkinson - who is also a Cheltenham Councillor - recently bought a four-year-old hybrid Mini Countryman. He went home - but returned two hours later by which time the hybrid Mini was about half-charged. A week later Max received a penalty notice saying he'd been fined £90. Mr Wilkinson has paid the fine and doesn't dispute it. But he does think it doesn't quite make sense to restrict car charging to 90 minutes as well. - He said: “It seems illogical that quite a lot of EV and hybrid owners won't be allowed to spend enough time in the car park to get a full charge.” Email me any feedback to: hello@evnewsdaily.com It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.
