Ruining Your Childhood - The Pitfalls of Nostalgia

This week welcome in a man that if you've come across, you would probably remember. My first impression of Mo was him running the merch booth for a west coast tour for billy woods circa 2015. On this episode of Caught On The Mike, Mike sits down with The Codefendants — the genre-smashing group of Sam King (Get Dead) and Julio “Ceschi” Ramos to talk about their explosive new chapter. We also talk about Fat Mike (of NoFx) recently taking the band to trio status. We dive deep into their latest single “Rivals” featuring hip-hop legend The D.O.C., and how their second collaboration pushes the conversation about punk and hip-hop's shared countercultural roots. The band opens up about blending scenes, battling gatekeepers, and why Crime Wave isn't a genre — it's a confession. We also get into the upcoming single “Lonely Life”, starring Jakob Nowell of Sublime in the video, and what fans can expect from their sophomore album LIFERS dropping April 3. From touring on NOFX's farewell run to sharing stages with hip-hop heavyweights, this conversation covers chaos, collaboration, and carving your own lane. Punk. Hip-hop. No rules.

We're finally back to a NOFX song title, so things are looking up. A lot of the time, when we decide someone did something dumb, we say things like "dude, how'd you fuck that up, it should just be common sense." It's a good way to distance ourselves, blame someone, and be fucking lazy all at the same time. But what is "common sense" anyway?Sometimes it seems like what we're trying to do is take credit for good luck and call it common sense. Taking credit for something you didn't create sounds like some big record label behavior, doesn't it? And maybe that's it. Maybe common sense is just a label used to feel powerful. The boys kick around a few ideas, trying to decide whether common sense is something innate, taught, or based on experience - or all three. That sort of opens the door to wondering about where expertise comes from. If common sense is just a catalog of knowledge, you'd never cover it all, so maybe the intention is about knowing how to think or reason through uncertainty. Like when the Ceschi from the Codefendants' amp quit working at Punk in Drublic. They still put on one of their best shows by figuring it out as they went along. That kind of response seems to be what we mean a lot of times. After the normal rambling discussion, the conversation takes a surprising turn toward relevance, with some ideas about acceleration of expertise and some of the generational gaps that seem to make discussions about common sense a little more rowdy. You should probably just listen to the episode and see if you can figure out the answer. Why? It's common sense, dumbass. DISCLAIMER: You probably shouldn't take anything in this podcast too seriously. Punk Rock Safety is for entertainment only. It's definitely not a replacement for professional or legal advice, and the fair amount of piss-taking, shithousery, and general ridiculousness ought to clue you into the fact that no one - and no organization - is endorsing (or un-endorsing, if that's a thing) any products, ideas, or other things. Except NOFX. We definitely endorse them.Oh, and give your money to Punk Rock Saves Lives. They're a rad organization that works in mental health, addiction, and human rights. In this special episode of Podsongs, musician Ceschi Ramos sits down with award-winning writer Ocean Vuong (On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous, Night Sky with Exit Wounds) for a raw, deeply personal conversation about art, identity, music, and grief. This is the kind of conversation that only results when two artists at the same level, but in different disciplines, can really judge and appreciate one another's work. And Ocean said Ceschi's insights were "the most accurate and kindest thing anyone has ever said about my work."They explore their shared Connecticut roots, the influence of punk rock and hip-hop on their creative journeys, and the impact of family history, war, and loss on their work. From Buddhism and coping with trauma to navigating the commercial pressures of the creative industry, this dialogue offers profound insights into the intersections of music, literature, and personal history. If you're drawn to multicultural identity stories, poetry that cuts to the bone, and the uncompromising pursuit of authenticity in art, you'll want to hear every minute. The song that is inspired by the conversation is called "CHANGE OR DIE": https://ffm.to/changeordie00:00 Introduction and Guest Welcome

21: How to Work With a Bulk Wine Broker - With Florian Ceschi of Ciatti - Business of Drinks

More than 70% of all wine produced in the world is what's known as bulk wine, which means it's shipped to its destination in Flexitanks. In this revealing episode, we speak to Florian Ceschi, the European Director of Ciatti, the world's biggest bulk wine broker. He's the man who knows what wine is being produced in the world, where it's being shipped, who's buying it — and what they're doing with it. This episode will take you right into the engine room of the global wine business, exploring how the bulk wine market works, from vineyard to brand creation. His insights include: 1. Bulk wine is about one company selling to another. But why would one company sell their wine — and another buy it? Florian outlines all the reasons why wineries and other companies might want to buy a shipment or two of wine. 2. The role of the broker. The middleman plays a critical role in the world's wine market, making sure that wine gets to market on time and in perfect condition. Sometimes it means the brokers need to make adjustments to the wine. 3. How the world of wine is driven by fashion. Aromatized wines, wine cocktails, and Moscato have all been recent wine fashions. Florian discusses how the market finds the supply they need at top speed — and what happens when varieties and styles fall out of fashion. 4. How private labels work. There are brands… and then there are private labels, which are brands created by retailers like supermarkets, who can switch products in and out as they need it. Florian discusses why businesses would go to all the trouble of finishing and bottling their own wines, instead of just buying them. 5. From appellations to anonymity. Wine is supposed to be about specific terroirs, but the allure of bulk wine is that it's anonymous. How is this inherent tension resolved?  Join us for what turned out to be a fascinating journey into a critical part of the wine world that very few people know about. Shoutout to our sponsor! The Claw's Corner With Rich Cyr

Oct 20, 2020 On this episode of “The Claw's Corner” Rich Cyr interviews musician Ceschi. Ceschi Ramos is a rapper and singer from Connecticut who has been hopping genres and spilling guts for the better part of two decades. He has been seen outside venues at 3am in Germany playing an acoustic guitar and singing to people that didn't want the show to end. He has written poems to fans from behind bars whilst locked up on bogus marijuana charges. He has suffered a spiral fracture of the humerus while arm wrestling a marine in Hawaii. He has recorded with and toured alongside some of independent rap music's most influential figures, including Sage Francis, Busdriver and Astronautalis. He has been in bands described as hardcore, crunk rap, lo-fi synth pop, Latin progressive and psych-jazz-rap. He has crafted abstracted and personal narratives mining the depths of depression and heights of hope. He has slept on countless floors when hotels weren't in the touring budget and lost girlfriends and jobs all for the love of creating and performing. Ceschi was born with four fingers on his right hand, which served as partial inspiration for the name of his DIY record label, Fake Four, Inc. Those who have worked with him describe Ceschi as one of the most artist-friendly labelheads out there, a rare breed who values art over profit almost to a fault. Since 2008, he has curated a roster of wildly original and critically praised talent and put out albums from the likes of Open Mike Eagle, Buck 65, Sister Crayon and Dark Time Sunshine in addition to his solo records The One Man Band Broke Up and Broken Bone Ballads. An engaging, theatrical live performer, Ceschi Ramos has treated entire venues like a stage, viewing the middle of the audience or an empty barstool as good a place as any to perform a soul-baring folk song or tongue-twisting rap track. Ceschi once described himself in song as “a martyr at most… a failure at least” and said that, “In the eyes of history I'll be no more than a leaf on a tree.” He knows what it is to suffer for his art and is aware that music exploring the ugliness and sorrow of the human condition will always exist on the fringes of a game dominated by disposable escapism and expensive publicists. Yet he still pours everything he has into his craft, and on any given night you can find him tracking vocals at his cousin's New Haven studio, warmly greeting fans and friends at a dive bar merch booth or rapping double-time in Japan or Europe for audiences that often don't speak his language, but are able to see the giant heart at the core of it all. On this episode of DOD45 Tai chats with hip-hop producer Factor Chandelier and draws him a picture of Factor's dog "Pirate". In this episode Factor and Tai discuss Factor's upcoming albums East Lake and First Storm, releasing them as a double due to the time loss via the pandemic. They also discuss the complications of border crossing U.S. & Canada, the reasoning behind going from Factor to Factor Chandelier, how Factor's particular sound has become what it is today, a recent flooding of his studio, resulting in his album Eastlake, preparing for another album with Ceschi & getting pulled over in Utah back in the day causing a tremendous amount of stress. They also discuss things like Eddie Murphy, Roddy Rowdy Piper, the Regina & Saskatoon feud, his song Wisdom Teeth being used in an Oakley commercial with Action Bronson voice-overs, how he ended up with Fake Four, his distaste for onions, interventions, being a good homie & so much more. In this episode Tai draws a grotesque #GarbagePailKids drawing while in discussion with hip-hop musician, lyricist & founder of Fake Four, Inc, Ceschi Ramos AKA Ceschi. This episode includes the new visual format where the screen never goes away from the drawing, so you can watch it the whole way through. Join Ceschi & Tai for what is supposed to be a 45 minute discussion (the conversation was going so well, the drawing hadn't yet been done by the buzzer-time & they both agreed to add 15 more minutes to the timer) and watch Tai draw "Francesco Four Fingers" a Garbage Pail Kid type character in honor of one of Ceschi best friends & illustrator of Ceschi's album Fake Flowers, Jonny Nagel, who unfortunately passed away in 2019. Their discussion spans over a wide spectrum of topics including how Ceschi has been weathering the pandemic; how Ceschi suffered a spiral fracture of the humerus, arm wrestling while on tour in Hawaii; some of his strange collections; his feelings on growing up multi-cultural; differences in rapping in Spanish or in English; getting peed on at a Stone Temple Pilots concert & how The Black Keys are potentially responsible for the break up of a band that Fake Four had signed. Sophie's Choice questions from this episode include: Handy Randy or Adam Bomb? Bjork or Thom Yorke? The Black Crowes or The Black Keys? Syd Barrett or Sid Vicious? Fishbone or Bone Thugs-N-Harmony?
